It was only a few weeks ago that we learned former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was going to take on the role of “Weird Al” Yankovic for his upcoming Roku Biopic. It seemed like a surprising casting move, but the musician/comedian was thrilled about the choice. This was only revealed last month and it seems that they’ve already entered production, as the first batch of set photos has found their way online featuring the actor in costume as Yankovic. The photos have been provided by E Online and it’s interesting to see him recreate the comedian’s look from the 80s.
For reference, here’s a look at Yankovich from the 80s that the above images are replicating surprisingly faithfully:
It’s safe to say, he really nailed the look. It’ll still be weird seeing Radcliffe as the character, and we don’t know if the comedian might play himself once the story catches up with the modern-day. He’s no stranger to acting and it is still strange that he’d have someone else take on the role that he played, especially given his unique vocal tone. It’ll be interesting to see how the actor tries to imitate him and if we might even have him sing the parody songs that put Weird Al on the map. If they’ve already started production, we might be able to expect the project to find its way to Roku sooner rather than later.
