‘Superman’: DCU Metahuman Mural Explained, Part 1

James Gunn has always loved hiding Easter Eggs in his superhero films. While some are a little easier to discover, the director famously led fans on a years-long hunt of coded information in the coordinates of locations in Guardians of the Galaxy and hasn’t updated the process in some time. His latest (and perhaps greatest) superhero film, Superman, contained dozens, including a large and lovely mural painted on a wall in the backdrop of a scene set in the Hall of Justice that depicts the history of metahumans in the DCU. Now, after giving fans some time to identify the characters, Gunn has posted high-res images of the mural online, making that task much easier. We’ve chosen to break the characters down in parts, left to right, beginning with those who likely were among the earliest heroes in the DCU.

Sister Symmetry: An Agent of Order in the DC Universe

Sister Symmetry is a powerful and enigmatic figure within the DC Comics pantheon, primarily known as an avatar of the Lords of Order. While not a standalone hero in the traditional sense, her presence signifies the machinations and cosmic influence of these ancient beings who strive to maintain balance and impose structure upon the multiverse.

Her most prominent manifestation in modern DC continuity has been through Madame Xanadu. The mystical Madame Xanadu, a long-lived sorceress and advisor to many of the DC Universe’s magical elite, has at times been forced to serve as a host for Sister Symmetry, typically through the mystical artifact known as the Cloak of Cyra. When adorned with this cloak, Xanadu’s powers and personality are subsumed by the will of Sister Symmetry, turning her into a direct agent of the Lords of Order.

As a representative of the Lords of Order, Sister Symmetry possesses immense magical abilities, often focused on manipulating and controlling existing magical energies rather than creating them. Her powers reflect the essence of order, including:

    • Precognition and Divination: The ability to foresee events and understand complex magical forces.
    • Transmutation: The power to alter matter and energy, often to impose a more “ordered” state.
    • Eldritch Blasts and Elemental Control: Manifestations of raw magical energy and command over natural elements.
    • Teleportation and Astral Projection: The capacity to traverse vast distances and operate on other planes of existence.
    • Immortality: As a being tied to the Lords of Order, she transcends mortal limitations.

Sister Symmetry’s appearances are often tied to major magical crises in the DC Universe, particularly those that threaten to unravel the fabric of reality through chaotic forces. Her actions, while sometimes seemingly harsh or unfeeling, are driven by the ultimate goal of preserving order and preventing cosmic collapse.

The Silent Knight: Medieval Might and the Code of Chivalry in the DC Universe

Brian Kent, The Silent Knight,is a unique figure in the annals of DC Comics, standing apart from the costumed heroes and villains of the modern age. Hailing from 6th-century England, he is a chivalrous knight whose adventures are steeped in the lore of King Arthur and the age of legendary quests. His most distinctive trait, as his name suggests, is his vow of silence, a self-imposed penance for a past mistake or a dedication to his knightly duties.

Created by Robert Kanigher and Irv Novick, the Silent Knight first appeared in Brave and the Bold #1 (1955). While he operates in a historical setting, the Silent Knight’s connection to the broader DC Universe sometimes subtly emerges. He exists in a world where magic is real and powerful, and sometimes faces threats that hint at connections to larger mystical forces. Though not directly interacting with modern heroes, his existence enriches the DC tapestry by demonstrating that heroism transcends time periods and different forms of “costumed” identity.

The Silent Knight possesses no inherent superpowers, but he is a master of medieval combat and strategy. His formidable skills include:

    • Exceptional Swordsmanship: He is an unparalleled swordsman, capable of defeating multiple opponents with his broadsword.
    • Master Horseman and Jouster: Highly skilled in mounted combat, he is a formidable opponent in jousts and charges.
    • Skilled Archer: Though primarily a melee fighter, he is also proficient with a longbow.
    • Tactician and Strategist: He often outmaneuvers his foes through clever planning and understanding of battlefield dynamics.
    • Unwavering Moral Compass: His strict adherence to his knightly vows and code of chivalry often serves as his greatest strength, guiding his actions with honor and integrity.

The Silent Knight serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of classic heroism and the foundational ideals of courage, justice, and self-sacrifice, proving that a true hero can emerge in any era, with or without a word. As part of a modern retcon Kent is now believed to have been. one of the many past lives of Carter Hall, aka Hawkman.

Exoristos: The Exiled Amazon of the Demon Knights

Exoristos is a compelling and formidable character introduced to the DC Universe as part of the “New 52” relaunch, primarily featuring in the medieval-set series Demon Knights. Her name itself, “Exoristos,” means “exile” in Greek, directly reflecting her background as an Amazon warrior cast out from her homeland.

First appearing in Demon Knights #1 (2011), Exoristos is a powerful Amazon who, unlike many of her Themysciran sisters, roams the world during the Dark Ages. Her reason for exile is a key mystery of her character, and it profoundly shapes her worldview and interactions with others. She’s often portrayed as a pragmatic, sometimes cynical, and fiercely independent warrior.

Exoristos becomes a central member of the titular Demon Knights, an unlikely assemblage of immortal and super-powered individuals brought together to defend a small town from a powerful magical assault. This team includes other notable DC figures such as Etrigan the Demon (and his human host Jason Blood), Madame Xanadu, Vandal Savage, the Shining Knight (Sir Ystin), and Al Jabr. Her interactions within this diverse group often highlight her unique perspective as an Amazon navigating a less civilized and more brutal world.

As an Amazon, Exoristos possesses a formidable array of enhanced physical attributes and warrior training:

    • Superhuman Strength: She possesses immense strength, easily capable of overpowering multiple human foes, battling mythical creatures, and even stopping a giant rhino with a sledgehammer.
    • Superhuman Durability: Exoristos is highly resistant to injury, able to withstand blows that would kill ordinary humans.
    • Enhanced Stamina: She can exert herself at peak physical levels for extended periods without tiring.
    • Master Combatant: Trained in the Amazonian tradition, she is an expert in various forms of armed and unarmed combat. She is proficient with swords, axes, and other medieval weaponry.
    • Skilled Tactician: Beyond raw power, Exoristos demonstrates strategic thinking and battlefield awareness.

Exoristos embodies the Amazonian warrior spirit, but her exile and experiences in the brutal medieval world have also instilled in her a grounded, sometimes weary wisdom. Her story explores themes of belonging, the consequences of ideals, and the ongoing struggle for justice in a harsh world, making her a standout character from the Demon Knights series.

The Black Pirate: Swashbuckling Justice on the High Seas of History

The Black Pirate, primarily Jon Valor, is a classic DC Comics character who brings the adventurous spirit of the Golden Age of Piracy to the comic book page. Created by Sheldon Moldoff, he first appeared in Action Comics #23 in 1940, establishing himself as a unique hero operating centuries before the advent of modern superheroes.

A 16th-century English privateer, Valor,  under the guise of the Black Pirate, uses his skills and ship to fight for justice and challenge tyranny on the high seas and in the burgeoning nations of Europe. Unlike many of the more villainous pirates of popular culture, Valor operates with a strong moral code. He is essentially a freedom fighter, using his buccaneering skills to aid the oppressed and punish the corrupt.

The Black Pirate’s stories are characterized by their historical setting, emphasizing swordsmanship, sailing prowess, and a sense of derring-do. He is often accompanied by his son, Justin, who serves as his loyal, if sometimes impetuous, sidekick.

While primarily a historical character, Jon Valor has had a notable posthumous influence in modern DC Comics. His ghost played an important role in James Robinson’s acclaimed Starman series, where he helped Jack Knight in his quest. This appearance highlighted the lasting legacy of heroism across time periods within the DC Universe. His grandson, Jack Valor, has also taken up the mantle of the Black Pirate in more contemporary stories.

The Black Pirate possesses no superpowers but is an exceptionally skilled and resourceful human:

    • Master Swordsman: Jon Valor is an expert with a cutlass and other blades, capable of engaging and defeating multiple opponents.
    • Exceptional Sailor and Navigator: He is a brilliant ship captain, possessing an innate understanding of naval strategy, seamanship, and navigation.
    • Highly Skilled Tactician: He can devise clever plans to outwit his enemies and lead his crew effectively in various situations.
    • Acrobatic and Agile: His life at sea and in combat has made him remarkably agile, capable of swinging, climbing, and performing feats of physical prowess.
    • Keen Intellect: He is a shrewd observer and a capable detective, often uncovering hidden motives and solving complex problems.

The Black Pirate serves as a timeless emblem of adventure and justice, demonstrating that heroism is not confined to any single era, and that a strong moral compass, combined with skill and courage, can make a significant difference in the face of oppression. His recent appearance in a mural in the Hall of Justice in the new Superman film further solidifies his place as an enduring figure in the DC pantheon.

  • Marvel Makes a Major Move to the Release Date of Its Next Streaming Series

With Ironheart now streaming in its entirety and The Fantastic Four: First Steps now launching its theatrical run, Marvel Television’s Eyes of Wakanda has moved into the on deck circle. Described as the story of “brave warriors” who “throughout Wakandan history have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts,” Eyes of Wakanda “fits right into our sacred MCU timeline continuity,” according to Marvel TV boss Brad Winderbaum, allowing it to reframe the MCU timeline.

This is the history of Wakanda as told through the War Dogs.

-Brad Winderbaum on Eyes of Wakanda

Created under Black Panther franchise writer/director Ryan Coogler‘s Proximity Media banner and directed by Todd Harris, one episode of Eyes of Wakanda, according to reports, is set during the time of the Trojan War. While it seems historians are all over the place when trying to pin down exactly when the Trojan War took place–if at all–an episode set during it would likely take place in the 12th or 11th century B.C., stretching the known timeline of the MCU.

The four-episode series was set to hit D+ on August 27th; however, as revealed by EW, the project will now debut on the streamer on August 1st.

The highs and lows [of anticipation], when it’s coming out, when we completed it, public perception, when we can talk about all those kinds of things…. There’s been so many ups and downs in the waves of those that I’ve just become numb to it,” series creator Todd Harris told EW about the move.

Marvel Animation’s new action-adventure series Eyes of Wakanda follows the adventures of brave Wakandan warriors throughout history. In this globe-trotting adventure, the heroes must carry-out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from the enemies of Wakanda. They are the Hatut Zaraze and this is their story.

-Official Synopsis for Eyes of Wakanda

My goal for the whole show was to do the thing that a movie has trouble doing, which is making the world bigger,” he explained. “It is a nation with multiple zip codes. It was mostly just expanding the backdrop of the world that Ryan was able to establish, with just a little bit more time and a few more opportunities at the watering hole. These things have been around for this long, really spreading out the mythology of Wakanda.”

According to a press release, Eyes of Wakanda will feature the voices of Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams (Black Lightning) as The Lion, Patricia Belcher (Bones), Larry Herron (Hello Neighbor: Welcome to Raven Brooks), Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield (The Chi), Jacques Colimon (The Society), Jona Xiao (Hightown), Isaac Robinson-Smith (X-Men ’97), Gary Anthony Williams (Batman: Caped Crusader), Zeke Alton (Dungeon Masters), Steve Toussaint (House of the Dragon) and Anika Noni Rose (the voice of Jasmine in the Princess and the Frog).

  • DC Studios ‘Booster Gold’ Starting from Scratch with New Writer Penning Pilot

DC Studios ‘Booster Gold’ Starting from Scratch with New Writer Penning Pilot

After losing its original and still unknown screenwriter, the Booster Gold streaming series seemed dead in the water at DC Studios. It turns out that is not the case, however, as the studio has brought on a new writer to take a crack at the pilot.

According to Deadline, David Jenkins (Our Flag Means Death) has taken over duties on cracking the code and, if DC Studios co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran are happy with his take on the pilot, the plan is for him to take on showrunner duties on the series.

Described in 2022 by Safran as a “loser from the future who uses his basic future technology to come back to today to pretend to be a superhero“, Michael Jon Carter isn’t one of DC Studios household names but has been a character Gunn has been locked in on since putting together DC Studios Chapter One: Gods and Monsters slate. Though there had been rumors that Kumail Nanjiani had landed the role of Carter, no official word has ever come on the matter.

The goal from the beginning was to give the honor that the great characters deserved; the Wonder Womans, Batmans, and Supermans. But then also to prop up these lesser-known characters like Peacemaker, Booster Gold, and The Huntress.

    -James Gunn

The series was initially described as an “outright comedy” and Gunn described the story of the time-displaced 25th Century hero as “imposter syndrome as a superhero.” How do you deal with that?”, asked Gunn, who added that the series will focus on how Carter “tries to use this future technology to be loved by the people of today and what is really at the base of that.”

  • Leaked ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Stinger Reveals Marvel’s Greatest Villain

Leaked ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Stinger Reveals Marvel’s Greatest Villain

The Fantastic Four: First Steps has begun its global run and it didn’t take long for the leaks to hit social media. Ahead of the film’s opening domestic weekend, clips and stills of one of the project’s stingers have landed online, providing a first look at the ultimate villain of the Multiverse Saga.

The mid-credit scene, directed by The Russo brothers, shows Franklin Richards looking up and touching the face of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom while the cloaked and hooded villain holds his iconic mask in his hand.

The leaks are fairly easy to find at this point and the scene truly serves as nothing but an incredible tease for the character’s first full appearance in Avengers: Doomsday.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps has opened to incredibly strong critical consensus, currently sitting at an 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, and is projected to open to a $200+M take globally. With Doom and the First Family both set to take center stage in Avengers: Doomsday, the film has already established itself as a must-see as the Multiverse Saga begins to move toward its end.

  • Frank Castle Squares off with [SPOILER] in New BTS Photo from ‘The Punisher’

Frank Castle Squares off with [SPOILER] in New BTS Photo from ‘The Punisher’

Earlier this year, insider Daniel Richtman revealed that Marvel Television was searching for an actress to play a female crime boss to serve as the primary antagonist of the upcoming The Punisher Special Presentation. Fans were quick to theorize that the villain of the piece was likely Isabella “Ma” Gnucci, the head of the Gnucci Crime Family who tried to take Castle out in Volume 5 of The Punisher, written by Garth Ennis. The 12-issue arc, known as “Welcome Back, Frank”, launched Ennis’ 49-issue run with the character and has long been hailed as a classic Punisher tale.

As production on the project got underway earlier this month, those theories seemed to be accurate as photos from the New York City set showed a storefront remade into Gnucci’s Family Restaurant. However, with no casting news and no proof that Ma was indeed in the project, there was still some uncertainty around the character’s role. That’s no longer the case as a new behind the scenes look at The Punisher has popped up, revealing a showdown between Frank and Ma Gnucci.

It’s like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story.

Brad Winderbaum on The Punisher Special Presentation

In terms of MCU Punisher continuity, Ma Gnucci makes quite a bit of sense as an antagonist for the project given that Frank wiped out several members of the Gnucci Crime Family, including her son Tony, in the first episode of Season 1 of Netflix’s The Punisher. It’s possible that’s exactly what Gnucci is reminding Castle of here as she’s pointing at him.

Given that it’s mid-day and they’re at a playground, it’s unlikely this scene turns into anything to intense but is rather likely to be Gnucci informing Frank that she’s coming for him. In the comics, that meant first sending the “Punisher Task Force” after him, followed by a trio of assassins and then, finally, The Russian. While there’s been no word of whether or not that character will appear, he would present a very formidable physical challenge to Frank and allow for some of that over-the-top violence Netflixers lust over.

The Punisher Special Presentation will stream on D+ in 2026.

  • New Report Details Jimmy Olsen-Led ‘Superman’ Spinoff

New Report Details Jimmy Olsen-Led ‘Superman’ Spinoff

As Superman continues to soar at the box office and lay a solid foundation for DC Studios, the powers that be are wasting no time in building on its success. A recent report by the Wall Street Journal revealed plans for a pair of projects that would spin out of Superman, one starring Edi Gathegi‘s Mister Terrific and the other starring Skyler Gisondo‘s Jimmy Olsen. Now, a new report has provided some potential details about the latter.

According to DCU Leaks, DC Studios is developing the Olsen series as an anthology that would feature the character as he investigates supervillains for the Daily Planet.

Should the series move forward, it would provide the opportunity to introduce a number of villains from Superman’s rogues’ gallery. While it’s unlikely that any of Superman’s arch villains would appear, Metropolis-based baddies such as Livewire, Toyman and The Prankster or crime lords such as Bruno Mannheim and Tobias Whale.

First appearing as an unnamed office boy in Action Comics #6 (1938), Jimmy was given his name and a more significant role in the Adventures of Superman radio serial in 1940. He made his comic book debut as “Jimmy” in Superman #13 (1941). In 1954, he even got his own comic series, Superman’s Pal, Jimmy Olsen, which ran for 222 issues until 1982. The character has appeared in multiple Superman-related projects in different mediums over the years. Actors such as Marc McClureAaron AshmoreMehcad Brooks and Michael Cassidy have all added their own touches to the character with some straying pretty far from the nature of Olsen in the comics.

  • ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Hit With More High Praise Following World Premiere

‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Hit With More High Praise Following World Premiere

The world premiere of Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps took place at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on July 21st, just a few days away from the film’s global release. While the review embargo lifts at noon on July 22nd, those in attendance shared their thoughts on social media and much like the sentiment that came from an earlier preview of the film, there’s a lot of high praise for director Matt Shakman‘s retrofuturistic take on Marvel’s First Family.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – JULY 21: (L-R) Kevin Feige, President, Marvel Studios, Louis D’Esposito, Co-President, Marvel Studios, Matt Shakman, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Julia Garner and Ralph Ineson speak onstage during The Fantastic Four: First Steps World Premiere at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, California on July 21, 2025. It’s rare for those in attendance at world premieres to speak ill of projects on social media and full reviews by critics will certainly set the narrative for the film; however, with many of the reactions highlighting the performance of the film’s cast, the score by Michael Giachinno and the fact that it truly stands alone and requires no prior knowledge of the MCU, it’s sounding as though The Fantastic Four: First Steps may well be a huge hit for Marvel Studios.

  • Kevin Feige Confirms ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Co-Star

Kevin Feige Confirms ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Co-Star

Jon Bernthal may currently be busy filming scenes in New York City for The Punisher Special Presentation but according to Marvel Studios’ One Above All, Kevin Feige, it won’t be the only project the actor films this summer. Earlier this year, rumors and a trade report indicated Bernthal was set to star alongside his buddy Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Now, in an interview with Collider, Feige has confirmed that is indeed the plan.

I think there’s a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland SpiderMan stories him being a proper Spider-Man,” said Feige of how the previous Spider-Man film has set up the story for the upcoming fourth installment in the franchise, set to be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. “Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with — for lack of better terms — street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events,” he added.

And with the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man fighting crime on the streets of New York City, it’s only a matter of time before he runs into Frank Castle. So when you do that, you say, ‘okay, who are the other street-level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with?’ And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. That great cover… I don’t want to say too much, but Destin — I will say too much — Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. And he’s got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.”

Additional rumors indicate that Bernthal won’t be the only established Marvel Studios star joining Holland in the film. While it’s yet to be confirmed, Mark Ruffalo has been linked to the project as well, with more than one rumor suggesting that his Hulk will go savage and take on Spider-Man and Punisher for at least some portion of the film. Throw in Sadie Sink’s yet-to-be-revealed role and it sounds as though Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be quite the entry in the MCU-based Spidey franchise.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently set to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026.

  • Kevin Feige Teases Marvel’s Post-‘Secret Wars’ Slate Which Runs Through 2032

Kevin Feige Teases Marvel’s Post-‘Secret Wars’ Slate Which Runs Through 2032

Marvel Studios won’t be making a splash by revealing its upcoming slate in Hall H during SDCC this weekend but that doesn’t mean the powers that be at the studio aren’t working hard on putting it together. As of now, the studio has only scheduled films through 2028, but as always, Marvel Studios’ One Above All, Kevin Feige is kicking the can quite a bit further down the road. “It’s traditionally a five-year plan,” he said. “I think it goes to 2032 right now.

With the studio looking to release between 1 to 3 films a year and having only officially commented on a few projects in the works (Black Panther 3, X-Men and the long-delayed Blade film), that leaves quite a few holes to fill on that new slate. Given the looming success of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, a sequel to that film seems all but a sure thing and there are plenty of other projects that have either been rumored or known to be in development but, as of now, Feige would only offer up a tease of how the studio hopes to return to one of its greatest strengths.

We were talking about a structure of an upcoming post-‘Secret Wars’ movie that I won’t name,” he said during a recent press event. “But I will say, like Shang-Chi, [it’s] getting back to what genre haven’t we done and want to do and how could this movie be that genre? [We would] focus on a singular storyline by embracing a certain genre we haven’t seen in a while. [It’s] remembering what cinema is and what movie going is and what entertaining audiences is,” said the Marvel boss.

While that’s about all he gave away in terms of teasing upcoming projects, Feige did reveal that the seven-year plan will see 2027’s Multiverse Saga finale, Avengers: Secret Wars, “reset” the Marvel Cinematic Universe rather than reboot it.” “Reboot is a scary word,” said Marvel’s Big Cheese. “Reboot can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. Reset, singular timeline — we’re thinking along those lines.”

According to Feige, resetting the MCU means recasting roles, some of which have been filled by beloved actors for more than a decade…or two. “X-Men is where that will happen next,” he revealed while talking about the studio’s upcoming film, which he confirmed will be helmed by Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier. However, the future won’t just feature new actors as Cyclops and Jean Grey; it will also include the studio eventually recasting the roles of Captain America, Iron Man and Black Panther, among others.

They have been a place to tell stories about young people who feel different and who feel Other and who feel like they don’t belong. That’s the universal story of mutants, and that is where we’re going.

-Kevin Feige on Marvel Studios X-Men

Amy Pascal and David Heyman are now searching for a new James Bond,” said Feige of Sony’s efforts to relaunch the 007 franchise. “David [Corenswet], the new Superman — he was awesome. That will always be the case,” Feige said of seeing new names take over roles from previous stars. “I think it’s hard for anybody to do that when an actor has done such a great role,” he said of replacing actors such as Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. in iconic roles before adding. “How are they going to ever replace Sean Connery [as James Bond], right?

It’s interesting that Feige chose to sat down with reporters rather than attempt to thrill fans at SDCC; however, given the major changes to the plans the studio revealed at SDCC ’19 and SDCC ’22, the days of the major slate reveals may be behind Marvel Studios or, at the very least, they’ll be done in much smaller doses. For now, it’s clear that the bulk of the studio’s attention is being directed toward making sure Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars leave fans satiated with the Multiverse Saga before taking yet another step into the unknown in 2028.

  • Kevin Feige Reveals Why Miles Morales Has Yet to Appear in the MCU

Kevin Feige Reveals Why Miles Morales Has Yet to Appear in the MCU

Since first appearing in Marvel Comics Ultimate Fallout #4 in 2011, Miles Morales has become one of Marvel’s most popular and important characters. In addition to becoming a major player for the publisher, Morales is also the centerpiece of both a video game franchise and an animated movie trilogy by Sony, while also appearing in a handful of other animated projects. In less than 15 years, Miles Morales has developed into one of Marvel’s most marketable characters and has popped up everywhere…except in a live-action film.

In 2023, producer Amy Pascal indicated that Sony was developing a live-action Miles Morales feature film and in 2024, Marvel Studios’ Big Cheese, Kevin Feige, shared his hopes that the character would one day appear in a live-action MCU film once the animated Spider-Verse trilogy concluded. Now, in a wide-ranging press event, Feige has revealed why the character has not yet appeared in a Marvel Studios film despite being referenced in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

When asked to update the status of the live-action Morales-centric project, Feige provided a blunt response. “That is nowhere,” he stated, before adding some context.”Sony has their brilliant, genius, incredible Spider-Verse animated franchise going and until that finishes, we’ve been told to stay away,” Feige explained, dampening hopes for the character to make an appearance in next year’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Sony’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the finale of the Spider-Verse trilogy, will release on June 25, 2027, six months before Marvel Studios wraps up the Multiverse Saga in Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. Perhaps coincidentally, both films have seen their release dates changed in the past few months, creating the opportunity for Morales to debut in Avengers: Secret Wars, should Sony and Marvel Studios be able to agree upon a fitting entrance. Given the lengths Marvel has gone to include characters from non-MCU films in the Multiverse Saga and the fact that the Spider-Verse franchise is also rooted in the Multiverse, it’s entirely possible that there’s more than serendipity at work and that a dovetail from the Spider-Verse to Secret Wars may be carved, allowing the popular animated version of the character to enter the live-action fray.
