Hereâs an interesting rumor, but insider Daniel Richtman has once again dropped an interesting detail about the upcoming Wonder Man series. The Disney+ series will explore the day and life of Hollywood star and part-time superhero Simon Williams, whoâll be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. While heâs the only confirmed cast so far, it seems they may have already cast his brother Eric Williams, better known as the supervillain Grim Reaper.
While itâs unclear how theyâll connect these two or if theyâll just stick to their comic origins, Richtman shares that they are currently in talks with Fear the Walking Dead and Lovecraft Country star Demetrius Grosse to take on the iconic villainous mantle. His addition makes sense given that heâs also Wonder Manâs main arch-nemesis and it adds a nice personal element to the
We donât know exactly where they are heading with this story, and thereâs also the chance that the Grim Reaper doesnât technically exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe just yet. Though it would be interesting for Simon to find out his own brother was a hitman that had a cybernetic scythe attached to his arm. In the comics, he was mostly a tech-based villain but they could make the change towards something more magic or energy-based depending on the story. Either way, itâs exciting to see where this series is heading once we find out more on it in the future.
While Marvel Studios continues to set the pace at the box office, they arenât the only Marvel entry set to make a big splash this year. We also have the long-awaited sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse that will continue the story of Miles Morales. This time around he is forced to travel Across the Spider-Verse and no longer have unwelcomed Spider-People on his home turf. As such, weâll see a variety of new characters during his travel across the multiverse and the latest Funkos offer a glimpse at who heâll meet along the way.
We get a few familiar characters that have already been confirmed for some time and even showcased in the recent trailer release for Across the Spider-Verse. Spider-Punkâs Funko even seems to keep the unique art style that will bring him to life in the animated film. We also see Spider-Womanâs design and Spider-Man 2099, who has been hinted as an antagonist in the upcoming film.
Thatâs not all, as we also get a good look at Spider-Man India, whose world was hinted at in the first-ever teaser for the film. They are joined by some new characters like Spider-Byte, which seems to be a new take on a digitized version of the iconic hero. Thereâs also Scarlet Spider, whose design seems to hint at a strong cel-shaded look for when they show up.
That is not all, as we also got our first villain tease in the Funkos with a character that seems to be a medieval version of Vulture. So far, we only know that Spot is going to be the primary villain nd one of the reasons Miles finds himself stranded throughout the multiverse, but we donât know yet how many iconic villains that might find their way into this story.
Overall, these Funkos look great and are certainly must-buys for any collector. They are a great tease on what we can expect and with a film that features the most Spider-Man characters, we may see a lot more Funkos in the near future building up to the filmâs release.
Weâre only a few weeks away from finally returning to the world of Din Djarin and Grogu. After a long pause and a pit stop in The Book of Boba Fett, the two reunite in the third season of The Mandalorian to continue where we left off. Din is on his journey to regain his right as a Mandalorian once more by going to the long-forgotten home planet of Mandalore.
The various trailers already teased a conflict is brewing and heâll reunite with his brethren and sisters to take on a yet-to-be-determined threat. But, it seems like it wonât be the end for our beloved duo as showrunner Jon Favreau has revealed that he already finished writing the fourth season which has yet to be officially confirmed.
Season 4? Yeah, Iâve written it already. We have to know where we are going to tell a fully formed story. So, we had mapped it out, Dave [Filoni] and I. And then slowly you just write each episode. So I was writing it during post-production, because all of it has to feel like a continuation and one full story.
Jon Favreau
It is interesting to note that Favreau and co-creator Dave Filoni have had this habit of already working on the next season just as they were wrapping work on the previous one. So, itâs not necessarily a surprise that they already mapped out the next season but more that theyâve already finished writing it while working on the post-production. Itâll be interesting to see if the wait between this season and the next might be quite a bit shorter.
Netflix hasnât been the kindest to its subscriber base, as many of its shows have sadly been canceled as of late. Weâve seen quite a few series not even make it past the first season but there are also some gems that returned for a second but didnât manage to live on. It seems more and more like a rarity that a series manages to live for multiple seasons like Umbrella Academy or Stranger Things.
Among the most hoped-for returns would be the canceled Mindhunter series from the mind of Joe Penhall and David Fincher. The series followed the FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench, as they worked for the Behavioral Science Unit, where they interview serial killers to better understand their minds. Sadly, it seems that Fincher has shot down any chances of a third season in an interview with the French publisher Le Journal du Dimanche.
Iâm very proud of the first two seasons, but itâs a particularly expensive series and, in the eyes of Netflix, we havenât attracted a large enough audience to justify such an investment. I donât blame them, they took risks to launch the series.
David Fincher
Itâs a shame as the second season was welcomed to much critical acclaim, but it seems viewers simply didnât check it out back in 2019. Itâs crazy to think how long it has been since the series was released and yet Mindhunter is still on the minds of many, hoping to see it finally return. Yet, as Fincher points out, it seems they just didnât have a big enough audience to really sell a third season to Netflix. Itâs been the biggest issue the streamer has faced, especially with the amount of series they put out.
They seem to go for a quantity strategy and hope a few gems might manage to pop up here or there. It does happen like with the recent success of Wednesday and The Sandman, but itâs becoming seemingly more difficult for new series to establish themselves. Netflix has put a lot of money into upcoming adaptations of Three-Body Problem, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the live-action One Piece series. So, hereâs hoping they can break the curse and go on for many more seasons.
Star Wars fans are anxiously awaiting the release of Ahsoka, the live-actions series which seems to be nothing less than a direct sequel to the animated series Star Wars: Rebels. Footage of the series has been screened at a couple of different fan events and some snippets have found their way into some 2023 teasers for Disney Plus but news on the series has been scarceâŚuntil now.
During an interview with Todayâs Hoda and Jenna, Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson gave fans a bit of hope about the projectâs release window. âAhsoka, thatâs going to probably come out in the Fall,â Dawson said of the streaming project slated for Disney Plus. Fall is still pretty generalized but it does at least give fans something to pencil in.
With Disney Plus recently getting an overhaul in terms of the number of projects being put out and the spacing between said projects by large brands like Star Wars and Marvel Studios, streaming Ahsoka in the Fall gives it plenty of room to breathe following the third season of The Mandalorian, which kicks off on March 1st.
While James Gunn and Peter Safranâs new DC Universe comes together, it may be doing so with a new Aquaman eventually. As reports by a pair of trusted insiders indicated that Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is shaping up as a stinker, a new rumor suggests that film will be the last go around as Arthur Curry for star Jason Momoa.
According to both Viewer Anona and Big Screen Leaks, James Wanâs sequel to the financially lucrative Aquaman is testing incredibly poorly ahead of its December 2023 release. Though the first film wasnât a critical darling, it did rake in over $1B at the box office. As the old DC slate begins to give way to DC Studiosâ plans, Warner Bros. would certainly like to near that mark again but it may be rough especially as a follow-up rumor indicates that Aquaman star Jason Momoa is bailing on the franchise.
The news isnât all bad for DC fans, however, as it seems Momoa has another DC role in mindâŚone that might be right up his alley. The new role shouldnât come as a surprise to those who have been paying attention, but according to the rumor mill from Hot Mic podcast host Jeff Sneider, Momoa will make the jump the DCU to fill the role of interstellar, heavy metal mercenary Lobo, âthe most badass bounty hunter in the galaxy.â
I hear itâs terrible and thatâs why Momoa is gonna be Lobo going forward. But they canât say that yet because then it would be a lame duck⌠and DC is hoping to wring another billion out of the box office. First one was awful too, so not a huge surprise. https://t.co/VlbUoqILDm
Given that Gunn has only revealed the first half of Chapter 1 of the DCU, itâs possible that a Lobo project fits into the second half of the Gods and Monsters entry. Even if Momoa is already on board, it makes sense, as Sneider points out, to wait for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom to complete its theatrical run before revealing Momoaâs bold new role.
Jonathan Majors finally got to play Kang the Conqueror in the recently released Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. While we did get a brief glimpse of one of his Variants during the first season of Loki, the first season even ended with a glimpse at the big bad himself as the new leader of the Time Variance Authority. So, we all assumed heâd likely have a role in the second season, but it was never officially confirmed.
With Quantumaniaâs release and the much-discussed post-credit sequences, the Marvel rumor mill has once again picked up steam as Cosmic Circus has hinted that Kang will have a larger role in the upcoming second season. While he only made a brief appearance in last seasonâs finale, it seems we can expect him to appear in at least three episodes. If they are still sticking to their six-episode format for dramas, heâll have a significant role in the series.
They believe the reasoning is that weâll see a few Kang variants in the season, as itâll focus on Loki and Mobius seeking out the different versions and how they influenced the timeline. The Sacred Timeline is no longer and with the multiverse continuing to stretch out into infinity, who knows what they might find. Itâs definitely sounding like Marvel is making good use of the concept and giving Jonathan Majors many chances to give us a unique take on this character every time we see him.
With a fourth film in the franchise unlikely to debut before Avengers: Secret Wars, itâs unlikely Scottâs fixation with Kang the Conqueror will still be unresolved, so what would the focus of the new project be? As always, we have some ideas inspired by the comics!
Ant-Man, The Wasp and Stinger: Irredeemable
2015âs Ant-Man set the stage for the plot of a sequel and given itâs yet to be revisited, the fourth film might be the perfect time for a handful of reasons. During the chaos at the Pym Tech HQ near the end of Ant-Man, Martin Donovanâs scumbag Hydra double agent Mitchell Carson stole a vial of Pym Particles and escaped while being chewed up by ants. Carson had been after Hank Pymâs great creation since the late 1980s when the two worked together at S.H.I.E.LD. and he holds quite a grudge against the good Doctor Pym. Bringing back Donovan and allowing him to have his revenge on Pym would make for a great opening act and grant Michael Douglasâ wish to let Hank die!
In the comics, Carson has some strong connections to Eric OâGrady, the third Ant-Man. Irredeemable could see Carson team up with OâGrady, another Pym Particle-Powered character, Erik Josten, and mutant loser Whirlwind to take his revenge on Hank and the Ant-Family. The three villains would nicely provide each of the filmâs heroes with their own baddie. Scott and Josten, aka Atlas, could kaiju fight around San Francisco; OâGradyâs shady, stalker, perv vibes would put him at odds with Cassie; and Whirlwind, one of Janet van Dyneâs most persistent foes in the comics, could take on Hope. What would that leave for Janet? Revenge on Mitchell Carson who could even come complete with his mangled face as a result of the ant attack at the end of Ant-Man.
All parties involved have expressed interest in going âsmallerâ in Ant-Man 4 after taking on Kang and this might be the best bet to make that happen.
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Avengers Academy
It would have been awesome to see the Young Avengers come together in an Ant-Man film but since Ant-Man 4 isnât likely to hit theaters until after Avengers: Secret Wars, those characters will probably assemble on screen before then. That doesnât mean, however, that Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne canât mentor a new generation of heroes!
While the Young Avengers were a group of powered people identified through Project Failsafe to be the next generation of heroes, Avengers Academy assembled a powered group of youngsters in hopes of keeping them from breaking bad. The Academy was led by Hank Pym, Tigra, Hawkeye, Jocasta, Quicksilver, Justice and Speedball with Pym and Tigra really at the forefront. It wouldnât take a lot of imagination to revamp the roster of instructors and let Scott and Hope take the lead. The group could take on some of Ant-Man and The Waspâs more proletariat rogues like Whirlwind or Kangaroo or Crossfire or take on something a little more awesomeâŚlike the Awesome Android and the Mad Thinker.
Ant-Man, The Wasp and The West Coast Avengers
Yes, the people involved in the Ant-Man franchise have expressed their desire for the fourth film to be a smaller filmâŚbut that doesnât mean it canât have a killer cast. The West Coast Avengers certainly seem to be headed to the MCU so why not let the fourth Ant-Man film be the place where the team assembles.
Give Scott Hankâs place on the team and assemble Hawkeye, Mockingbird (now that we know sheâs in the MCU), Moon Knight, Wonder Man and introduce Tigra and let this be the dumb fun movie of the year. Let Hawkeye use Pym Particles and become Goliath. Put them up against the Grim Reaper (maybe heâll be introduced in Wonder Man) or the ZodiacâŚin all their crazy glory. There are so many wild stories waiting to be told in the pages of the West Coast Avengers comics that one must be just right for Ant-Man 4!
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Vengeance
This pitch exists for one reason: to introduce Jack of Hearts to the MCU. The film would take on elements of the comics and combine them with Jack of Hearts origins to create an adventure worthy of the Ant-Family and one that would provide Scott with one of his great comic book not-quite-besties.
Hank Pym knows a lot of smart people, so introducing audiences to another one, Philip Hart, who has sovled the worldâs energy crisis with his Zero Fuel wouldnât be a stretch. When Hartâs invention is perfected and heâs ready to give it away, the criminal organization known as The Corporation steps in killing Philip and exposing his son, Jonathan, to the dangerous fuel and mutating him into the powerfulâand dangerousâJack of Hearts. Hankâs relationship with Philip could be enough to get him killed in the explosion, leaving Scott, Hope, Janet and Cassie on a quest for vengeance parallel with Jackâs. The Corporation is full of all types of terrible goons they could take on and the plot could, as comic book readers know, set the path to the end of Scott Langâs time in the MCU as well.
Marvel Studiosâ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has topped the box office. The Ant-Man threequel managed to take in an impressive $120 million over Presidents Day weekend, beating out expectations. Perhaps more impressively, though, the filmâs opening makes for the biggest opening for the Ant-Man films to date. The filmâs opening is also the third-best opening for February and Presidents Day weekend, behind Black Pantherâs $242.1 million opening and Deadpoolâs $152.1 million opening.
Rich Gelfond, the CEO of IMAX, noted that $24 million of the filmâs box office came from the premium format screens, calling it the first blockbuster of the year. ââAntâManâ is the first new Hollywood blockbuster out of the gate in 2023.â
Quantumania makes for the first $100 million domestic debut so far this year. Overall, the film took in $225 million at the worldwide box office, having earned $121 million internationally. While the movie didnât quite take off in China as Marvel mightâve hoped, earning just $19.2 million, the film seems to be doing quite well despite its low rating among critics. Quantumania is currently sitting at 47% on Rotten Tomatoes following 308 reviews, but audiences donât appear to feel the same way as critics â the audience score is currently at a solid 84% following 5k verified ratings.
For comparisonâs sake, 2015âs Ant-Man opened to $57 million, while 2018âs Ant-Man and the Wasp opened to $76 million. While those films ended their runs with $519 million and $622 million, Quantumania is expected to end its run ahead of both titles.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is now playing in theaters.
Peyton Reed is in rare company at Marvel Studios. With the release of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Reed joined Jon Watts (Spider-Man) as the only directors to complete a trilogy of films for one franchise. Theyâll be joined by James Gunn when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters in May and while Gunnâs future wonât include more Marvel Studios projects, Reedâs very well may. Itâs already been made clear that ideas for a fourth Ant-Man film have been hatched and discussed with Kevin Feige so it seems just a matter of time before Ant-Man 4 gets the green light. But would Reed want to return for another round?
Thatâs a lot more complicated answer than you might believe as Reed revealed in an interview with Collider. The short answer is definitely yes, but the director has some pretty interesting thoughts about what coming back would mean.
Itâs interesting because, you know, Iâm superstitious about this stuff, right? I mean, when we were doing the first Ant-Man there was certainly no guarantee we were going to get to make a second one. And even after the second one, there was no guarantee. When we finally announced that, âOkay, weâre gonna make Quantumania, weâre gonna get to do this,â it was marshaling all the forces onto that because we knew if weâre gonna get to do a third one, itâs gotta be something altogether different. We gotta show the audience something different.
For me, it was the Quantum Realm, of being able to create that whole world, worlds within worlds, and answer those questions. What the hell was Janet Van Dyne doing down there for 30 years? And also, to kick off Phase 5, to introduce Kang the Conqueror with Jonathan.
Peyton Reed
Reedâs interest in returning seems to be tied to making sure whatever comes next looks and feels different than what came before. Quantumania certainly accomplished that even if it wasnât well-received critically. So what would a fourth film entail? While he doesnât give a direct answer, inspiration might be found in the pages of Fantastic Four comics.
So I was focused on that thing. Now that the trilogy is done, who knows? Again, years ago â you and I have talked about this before â I developed Fantastic Four like 20 years ago. I channeled a lot of my Fantastic Four love into the Ant-Man world, and specifically into Quantumania. You know, itâs no mistake that both are kind of dysfunctional families of superheroes, and in Fantastic Four they may go into the Negative Zone, we went to the Quantum Realm. I really scratched that itch with these movies.
Peyton Reed
With so many great Fantastic Four stories to be told and only so many films in which to tell them, itâs possible that Reed could continue to turn to them for inspiration for the Ant-Man franchise should things head in that direction. However, there are some other Marvel properties in the works that Reed might be interested in working on as well, should the opportunity present itself. âI want to play in a lot of different sandboxes,â said Reed of the idea of working outside of Marvel before adding, âI would never say no to a future doing stuff at Marvel. I mean, Iâve loved my time at Marvel, I love the people in Marvel, and I love what theyâve been able to do.â
What other âstuffâ at Marvel might have caught his eye? âI would do a Nova movie,â said Reed. âI love [The Man Called Nova]. That seems cool.â With a Nova project currently in development at Marvel Studios, Reed may just have his chance.
