  • Sony Delays Release of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ Sets Date For Sequel

Sony Delays Release of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ Sets Date For Sequel

It would seem fans are going to have to wait a while longer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. It’s being reported by Jeff Sneider that Sony has delayed the release of the highly anticipated sequel by around eight months. Originally set to debut on October 7th of this year, Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will now hit theaters on June 2nd, 2023. On the bright side, the third installment in the popular animated franchise, which will presumably be titled Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two), now has an official release date. That adventure will swing through the big screen almost a year later on Mar. 29th, 2024.

The news is somewhat shocking, considering that the production of the next Spider-Verse film seemed to be chugging along at full speed. No reason was given for the delay, but it could be anything from strategic marketing timing to the animators simply needing a little more time. Either way, the push back is probably a good thing, giving animators more time to work on the movie as needed. Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will see Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jake Johnson return to their roles as multiversal Spider-People, only this time they’ll be joined by Oscar Isaac as Spider-Man 2099 and Issa Rae as Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman.

Not much is known about the plot, but the project’s first teaser revealed audiences would see Moore‘s Miles Morales dueling with Isaac‘s Miguel O’Hara. Unfortunately, the true reason for this won’t be known until the summer of 2023.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Will “Push the Animation Medium Even Further”

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Will “Push the Animation Medium Even Further”

Animation has been proving time and time again how relevant it is to the current cinematic landscape. There are some strong contenders for this year’s Animation Oscard, and among them is the latest Sony animated venture by directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller titled The Mitchells vs. the Machines. Of course, as it is considered a frontrunner, the directing duo was also interviewed on their future ventures. Of course, the discussion also included their next entry in the Spider-Verse series, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part One.

While still shying away from any details, Phil Lord did highlight that they are certainly going to push the bound arise of animation with the upcoming project. We technically already got a preview of how Miles’ adventure through the Spider-Verse may reinvent each new universe with a different animation style. He stated that:

It’s been really fun to have the confidence to go even harder and push the [animation] medium even further and take Miles to places that you couldn’t have imagined whilst making the first film.

    Phil Lord

It’s certainly ambitious and it’ll be interesting to see just how far they can push the medium. We have no idea how many dimensions Miles may visit in his travel, or even how relevant some may be to the story. In the first entry, we saw that those that came from different dimensions took their animation style with them. It’s a much bigger undertaking changing the animation style with every new world our hero visits.

  • ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ Trailer Teases Indian Spider-Man Pavitr Prabhakar

‘Across the Spider-Verse’ Trailer Teases Indian Spider-Man Pavitr Prabhakar

The first trailer for the highly-anticipated animated sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) dropped yesterday. While not openly confirming any new additions, it may have revealed at least one new inclusion. Most of the sneak peek consisted of Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales interacting with a familiar face, Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy. Later on, he is seen fighting a mysteriously aggressive Spider-Man 2099, who will be voiced by Oscar Isaac in a larger role than his quick cameo in the first film.

The duel between Spider-People sends them flying across the multiverse, and one blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment indicates the film will take us to a world plenty of fans may have forgotten about. As user @karazorlls points out in the following tweet, the background of a quick frame indicates Miles may find himself in the universe of Pavitr Prabhakar, who some might remember from his run titled Spider-Man: India.

Pavitr Prabhakar made his comic book debut in a limited series written by Sharad Devarajan, Jeevan Kang, and Suresh Seetharaman from 2004 to 2005. The character exists in an alternate reality where Spider-Man originated from Mumbai instead of New York. Prabhakar inherits his spider-powers from a mystical yogi as opposed to a radioactive spider, but much of the rest of his story remains fairly in line with the classic Peter Parker tale.

The Indian Spider-Man made an appearance in the famed Spider-Verse event of the comics. So, his eventual inclusion in the movie version may have been inevitable. Time will tell if the character actually shows up in the film, or who could be playing him. Until then, let the speculation commence and you can check the trailer here:

  • Miles Morales Will Meet “a Lot of New” Friends “Across the Spider-Verse”

Miles Morales Will Meet “a Lot of New” Friends “Across the Spider-Verse”

Right after the first trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – Part 1 to everyone’s surprise – has dropped, Christopher Miller and Phil Lord offered some glimpses into their work on the latest entry and teased what the sequel has to offer. The biggest question surrounds how the spider-verse element will build upon the previous film, and they confirmed that we can expect some familiar and a lot of new friends joining up Miles Morales’ adventure. The only confirmed returning characters are Hailee Steinfeld‘s Gwen Stacy and Oscar Isaac‘s Miguel O’Hara.

There have been many theories about what we might expect in the next entry of this franchise. As he’s going to explore the multiverse, it almost seems like it might be endless. We could get the return of some classic animated Spider-Men that haven’t had the chance to voice their characters in quite some time. We might meet some brand new takes on the character that only existed in comics. The potential seems limitless with this kind of concept stand we can’t wait to be part of the ride.

  • Every Dimension To Have a Unique Art Style in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’

Every Dimension To Have a Unique Art Style in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’

After a long wait, the first trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has finally dropped. The biggest surprise was not only that the upcoming release of Across the Spider-Verse is just the first part but also our glimpse into other dimensions. As Miles Morales fights the Spider-Man from 2099, we see that the dimensions don’t follow the same art style. Spider-Gwen’s animation style was also distinct when we got a glimpse of her world and it seems they will continue that by including a new animation for each dimension as confirmed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

This is a fantastic idea, as every dimension will stick out through its unique style of animation. It makes you wonder if we might get to see some familiar ones like the original 90s series or even Spectacular Spider-Man. It could let them revisit these storylines and voice actors to bring their interpretation of Pete Parker to life one more time. Here’s hoping we get some teases in the coming months ahead of the film’s release that offer a glimpse into what parts of the multiverse we’ll see.
