  • First Set Photos Seemingly Surface for Apple TV+’s ‘Godzilla’ Spinoff Series

First Set Photos Seemingly Surface for Apple TV+’s ‘Godzilla’ Spinoff Series

Here’s a surprise, as while we know that WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman has joined the production team to direct the untitled Godzilla spinoff series for Apple TV+, we know very little about the rest. Only recently did we get the actual casting announcements for five additions while rumors are still circling the web on father-son duo Kurt and Wyatt Russell joining the production. Now, it seems that they are already setting up camp (literally) in Vancouver to film the Monsterverse entry.

Twitter user @JaniceRafael has shared that a production company EP Hydronaut Canada is building what seems like a refuge camp. The site Vancouver is Awesome highlights it is part of the Godzilla series and will feature 180 background actors, teasing the scale of the production.

We don’t see a lot but it does give us a window into the production timing. It might be safe to say that they’ll start working on the Apple TV+ series rather soon if they are already preparing sets. The series announcement came after the success of Godzilla vs. Kong, which in some ways kicked off the current revival of the theatrical box office. With a sequel also already confirmed for 2024, it doesn’t look like the Monsterverse is slowing down anytime soon.

We still don’t know who will be the focus of the next film given how the previous one ended, but it does seem like the Toho monster is going to leave his presence known in the TV series while rumors are pointing to a Song of Kong-inspired sequel heading to theaters. Perhaps we’ll find out more as the series gets an official title.

It is also directly connected to Legendary’s Monterverse.

Sawai is playing Cate, a teacher and G-Day survivor who travels to Japan to settle family affairs. During her trip, however, she ends up uncovering a secret. • ‘Ted Lasso’ Writer Teases Apple TV+ Show May End With Season 3

‘Ted Lasso’ Writer Teases Apple TV+ Show May End With Season 3

Ted Lasso is seen as a cultural phenomenon, as it brings a lot of positivity with each new episode. It seemed like a franchise that would keep going forever, but according to one of its writers and stars, Brett Goldstein, the series is currently being written as its last in an interview with Sunday Times.

We are writing it like that. It was planned as three. Spoiler alert — everyone dies.

    Brett Goldstein

Yet, as Variety points out, the co-created Jason Sudeikis has confirmed it was originally mapped out with three seasons but was open to continuing. All it would depend on if they have a few ideas to keep it going. He developed the series together with Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly which was actually inspired by a character he played on NBC Sports. Sudekis” quote was as follows:

The story that I know is the one that I wanted to tell, and so that’s the one we’re telling with the help of numerous people in front of and behind the camera, so it’s by no means me typing every key stroke and saying every word,” he said. “It’s nowhere near like that. But the story that’s being told – that three-season arc – is one that I see, know, and understood. I’m glad that they are willing to pay for those three seasons. As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don’t know.

    Jason Sudekis

Apple TV+ has quite the success on its hands and they even got the Premier League licensing for the upcoming season. So, it would be strange to go through that deal to only end the series right afterward. It lets them use archival footage and its many logos in the series, which may have had multiple years planned but we’ll find out once they start promoting the third season.

  • Live-Action ‘Speed Racer’ Series Heading to Apple, J.J. Abrams on as Executive Producer

Live-Action ‘Speed Racer’ Series Heading to Apple, J.J. Abrams on as Executive Producer

In the age of Netflix’s strong focus on bringing iconic anime and manga franchises to live-action, it seems that Apple is the next to throw its hat into the ring. It looks like Apple is working on a live-action adaptation of Speed Racer with J.J. Abrams set as its executive producer. It already got a series order with Ron Fitzgerald and Hiram Martinez writing, as well as executive producing the series. They will also act as showrunners.

It’ll be part of Bad Robot’s deal with Warner Bros. Television. It’s the second live-action adaptation of the franchise with The Wachowskis still being a cult favorite from back in 2008. While not a financial success, the film found a new life online with its unique visuals. It’s unclear if that’ll be a more grounded take on the franchise, or if it’ll keep its more out-there concepts.

It’ll be interesting to see how they embrace the anime’s roots as we meet a man whose actual name is Speed Racer, who takes on anime’s original Wacky Races with a Mach 5. He works with his girlfriend Trixie, his father, little brother, and their pet chimpanzee, Chim-Chim, to take on the world. It would be great to see if they pay tribute to some of the cast from the original film, who might be open to returning.

  • ‘WandaVision’s Matt Shakman to Direct Apple TV+’s ‘Godzilla’ Spinoff Series

‘WandaVision’s Matt Shakman to Direct Apple TV+’s ‘Godzilla’ Spinoff Series

After first hearing about the project, many were surprised that Apple TV+ got the rights to develop a Monsterverse series that’ll act as a spinoff of the franchise set up with Godzilla set up back in 2014. While it went silent after the initial announcement, Legendary Pictures has revealed that the WandaVision director will direct the first two episodes.

Looks like his time with Marvel Studios has made him a must-get for studios in Hollywood. Not only is he working on this new Apple TV+ series, but he’s also on board to direct the next Star Trek film featuring the return of Chris Pine’s era as Captain Kirk through the Kelvin Timeline. As he hasn’t started production yet, he may be busy with these two episodes before he starts work on the feature film.

The director brought a charming tribute to classic TV sitcoms with WandaVision and is now heading to space, as well as a Titan-infested world coping with the devastation in their wake. So, he’s definitely upping his game in the industry and exploring new avenues.

It’ll be interesting to see what he brings to the table with the series, especial as it’s unclear if it’ll also feature any of the Titans from the Monsterverse series. There were hints that it’ll act as a direct spinoff from 2014’s Godzilla, as a family explores their mysterious connection to the secret organization Monarch. So, here’s hoping we get some monster action throughout.

  • REPORT: Apple TV+’s ‘Godzilla’ Spinoff Series Eyeing to Cast Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell

REPORT: Apple TV+’s ‘Godzilla’ Spinoff Series Eyeing to Cast Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell

The Monsterverse is expanding with a new TV series. While we all expected the Warner Bros. distributed series to remain with the company, Apple TV+ was the lucky one to get their hands on the rights to produce a new Godzilla spinoff series, which is still untitled. There’s still a lot we don’t know about the series, but we were able to share some details earlier in January, as it’s currently titled Hourglass and was originally eyeing a production start sometime this month.

It’ll follow up after San Francisco was leveled by Godzilla, as a family’s connection to the secret organization Monarch is unraveled. It looks like part of the cast might be a character named Lee Shaw, who is “a military leading man type.” According to Illuminerdi’s latest piece, it seems they are currently eyeing Kurt Russell, which was first reported by Giant Freaking robot, and his son Wyatt Russell to play an older and younger version of that very character.

While they can’t offer more details, these are two big names to add to the series. It’s uncertain if the project may generally feature more Godzilla, or even lead into one of their upcoming projects. The Monsterverse reached a new high with Godzilla vs. Kong, but we generally haven’t heard much on what the future has in store for viewers as they start their expansion into its first TV venture.
