    Jon Cryer Pitched a ‘Legion of Doom’ Arrowverse Spinoff Series

    Jon Cryer may be famous for his time on Two and a Half Men, but he also gave us a memorable run as Lex Luthor in the Arrowverse series. He was first introduced in Supergirl before becoming a mainstay and a big part of its Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover series. In a surprise reveal, it seems like Cryer also wanted to lead his own series as he reveals in a tweet that he pitched a Legion of Doom spinoff series.

    While villain-focused projects are seldom, it’s kind of surprising that this never picked up any pace or even that CW wasn’t interested. Cryer was a household name and it would’ve stood out from the other projects in development. Though, it’s unclear if this may have happened around the time CW was already pulling back on its various projects especially with Superman and Lois moving away from the Arrowverse to tell its own story.

    Lex Luthor has become a popular addition to various projects, as we recently got Titus Welliver in the role of Titans and the recent casting of The Walking Dead star Michael Cudlitz in the role of Superman and Lois. We’ll also get a new version in the upcoming live-action Superman film in development from James Gunn, which will likely become the de facto version of the new DC Universe moving forward.

    Walter Hamada’s Original DCEU Plan for Henry Cavill’s Superman Revealed

    Marvel Studios has been busy developing their own Multiverse Saga with Kang the Conqueror at its core, but it seems that DC had their own multiversal plans beyond just The Flash‘s upcoming release. While Walter Hamada is no longer involved with DC or Warner Bros, it seems his original plan was to develop a Crisis on Infinite Earths film but have Henry Cavill‘s Superman slowly build up that storyline through breadcrumbs in various movies.

    It seems likely that The Flash was going to unleash the multiveerse unto the DC Extended Universe with Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton‘s versions of Batman’s existing simultaneously. Ironically, it seems that Dwayne Johnson‘s own plans to make Black Adam a Superman rival and forcefully bringing Cavill back in the role may have also derailed those plans somewhat. Though, it’s uncertain just how far they mapped out the concept and if they were trying to test the waters.

    The idea to not give Superman a sequel but rather use him for cameos is curious–pretty much the Nick Fury for the DCEU. It may have also been a decision based around Cavill‘s booked schedule with The Witcher (ironic given recent developments) and the Enola Holmes movies. Once a Warhammer 40K or World of Warcraft project picks up any steam, he’ll likely throw his hat into the ring for those as well. So, even if he won’t truly return as Superman, there are many franchises that’ll definitely catch his attention.

    Walter Hamada Was Planning ‘Crisis On Infinite Earths’ Film Event

    The hierarchy of power at Warner Bros. Discovery is changing, and the future of DC Films will never be the same. As has been widely reported over the last week, new WBD CEO David Zaslav has been busy making a series of drastic alterations to the company’s film slate. Batgirl, along with several other potential projects, received an unexpected axing, and nothing that’s been previously announced is still set in stone. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this includes projects that were never publicly revealed but planned as major announcements by DC Films President Walter Hamada. Perhaps the biggest idea that will likely not see the light of day? An adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths, which was reportedly being staged by Hamada before Zaslav changed the game.

    One of the most popular comic book tales to ever exist, Crisis follows the heroes of the DC multiverse as they come together to prevent its destruction at the hands of the all-powerful Anti-Monitor. The series concluded with the defeat of the Anti-Monitor, and resulted in the entire DC multiverse condensing into a single Earth. It seems likely this event could have been Hamada’s plan to converge the many tones and timelines presented throughout DC’s most recent films. With Zack Snyder’s original vision for the DC Extended Universe not panning out, the success of Joker and The Batman proving stand-alone worlds could still be profitable, and The Flash set to introduce the multiverse concept to the franchise, a Crisis-type situation did feel like a natural solution to all the chaos. After all, the comic is notable for its willingness to kill off characters and reset storylines for the sake of audience understanding.

    It’s worth noting that Marvel Studios just announced an adaptation of Secret Wars in its plans for the Multiverse Saga, the 2015 version of which is pretty similar in concept to Crisis. While this is entirely conjecture, it does make one wonder if Zaslav wanted to avoid comparison and opted for the hard, sudden reboot instead. For those who would still like to see a Crisis adaptation, The CW produced one a few years back with a major crossover of all its Arrowverse television series. That was well-received by fans and should be able to quench the Crisis thirst until a film is inevitably made in the apparently not-so-soon future.
