SDCC: Christopher Yost Returns to Marvel with ‘Maximum X-Men’

Marvel utilized its high-stakes Next Big Thing panel in Hall H to formally announce Maximum X-Men, landing in stores December 2026. Fan-favorite architect Christopher Yost, whose legendary resume includes co-creating Laura Kinney (X-23) and co-writing fan-favorite masterpieces like X-Force, New X-Men, and Thor: Ragnarok, is stepping back into the mutant driver’s seat to engineer the flagship book.

Maximum X-Men will pick up the brutal pieces left behind by Chip Zdarsky’s summer-shattering Avengers: Armageddon storyline.

Under Yost’s trademark high-stakes, black-ops narrative style, the X-Men are stepping directly onto the world stage to serve as Earth’s primary, uncompromising superhero defense force. Storm will lead the team which will consist of Bishop, Colossus, Firestar, Iceman, Justice, Psylocke and Wolverine.

After ‘Armageddon,’ the world order is completely re-drawn. People are terrified, traditional institutions are broken, and the Avengers can’t be everywhere at once anymore,” said Yost. “The X-Men have always been fighters, but ‘Maximum X-Men’ is about them taking the wheel on a global scale—whether the world likes it or not.”
