    James Gunn Teases Production Start on the Next Installment of His Superman Saga

    With DC Studios hosting the red carpet premiere of Season 2 of Peacemaker and Superman debuting on digital platforms this week, James Gunn has spent quite a bit of  time in front of the press and he has rarely remained silent in such situations. As such, it was no surprise that he broke some DCU news earlier this week, though the subject caught nearly everyone off guard.

    I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the Superman Saga. The treatment’s done–which means a very, very worked out and I’m hopefully going into production on that  treatment–and I’m working on that not too far away from today.

    After a recent mention of Gunn’s involvement in a “Super-Family” movie, the DC Studios co-chair revealed he has finished work on a treatment of what he referred to as the next story in the “Superman Saga.” Furthermore, the news that the film would be headed into production “not too far away from today,” certainly turned heads as it could possibly mean a third Superman Family film would be in theaters over a 2 or 3 year span, following this summer’s Superman and next year’s Supergirl. Now, in a new interview with Collider, Gunn has provided some additional information about the treatment and, once again, teased an imminent start of production.

    “We’re scheduling it now, ” said Gunn of the production of the new film which will star David Corenswet but will NOT be Superman 2.

    “I’m totally done with the treatment. My treatments are incredibly intense. They’re not regular treatments. They’re 60-page treatments with dialogue and everything,” Gunn devulged. “And so, now I’m just turning that into a script. We’re planning out when we’re going to shoot that. It’s going to be much sooner rather than later.“

    Though no details have been revealed, fans have come to believe that the project may see Kal-El, his cousin, Kara Zor-El, and her dog, Krypto, team up to take on classic Superman baddie Brainiac. Should DC Studios schedule production sometime in 2025–which would align with the idea of “not too far from today”–it wound stand to reason that casting would get underway soon and that more details about the film would begin to make their way online.

    Latest Sadie Sink Rumor Could Mean a Wildly Unexpected Turn for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

    After two weeks of filming in Glasgow, Scotland, it looks as though production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day is headed back to Buckinghamshire, England where Pinewood Studios serves as the movie’s “home base.” Fans were treated to plenty of photos and videos from the Glasgow set, including some spoilery shots of Frank Castle’s new Battle Van; however, despite rumors to the contrary, the film’s co-star, Sadie Sink, never made it to Glasgow.

    Since being cast in March, Sink has been at the center of an insider info war with several scoopers sharing a half-dozen or so potential characters that the Stranger Things star could be playing. Ranging from Jean Grey to a Mary Jane Watson Variant to Gwen Stacy to Mayday Parker, the rumored possibilities all fit with the film’s street-level plot. However, a new rumor from a source not previously part of the info war has shared an intriguing rumor that, if true, could send the plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in an entirely unexpected and wild direction.

    Nexus Point News EIC Demet took to X to share word that she’s been told Sink’s character was named–or possibly codenamed–Annabelle Adams. A relatively minor character with only 15 appearances in the pages of Marvel Comics, Adams seems like a boring choice at first; however, the studio could be looking to use her as the host of a far more interesting character.

    After being introduced as the love interest of Peter Parker clone Kaine, Annabelle Adams story took a major turn in Edge of the Spider-Verse Volume 2 when she became entangled with the shape shifting deity Shathra.

    Should the studio be looking to use Adams as some sort of host for Shathra, the film, featuring The Punisher, Scorpion and several other street-level baddies could take a multiversal turn, potentially tying it to Sony’s animated Spider-Verse franchise ahead of the end of The Multiverse Saga.

    Of course, speculation based on a rumor is hardly the best way to go but this latest rumor does share some commonality with some information making its way through some certain circles. If nothing else, it makes for a very different bit of conversation than what’s been taking place.

    James Gunn Explains How ‘Peacemaker’ Forced ‘Superman’ to Digital So Soon

    After an incredibly short 35-day theatrical window, DC Studios Superman is now available to rent or purchase on digital platforms. Though the film hasn’t been pulled from theaters, fans were caught off guard earlier this week when the August 15th digital debut was announced; however, it turns out there’s a pretty logical reason behind the first film in the Superman Saga heading to small screens so soon.

    “Well, it’s very complicated, but the truth is it is because of Peacemaker,” Gunn explained in an interview with Screen Rant. The DC Studios co-chair previously stated that “Peacemaker season 2 is very connected to Superman,” though now it sounds as though watching the Man of Steel’s DCU debut may be required reading for the new season of John Cena‘s streaming series.

    I originally thought Peacemaker was going to be coming out next month [September]. There was a lot of things that are beyond our control, so that Peacemaker is coming out now, and, at the end of the day, I wanted everyone to be able to see Superman that wanted to, even those people who couldn’t get to a theater before Peacemaker. And that’s really the reason for it.

    Reading between the lines of Gunn’s comments, it sounds as though Warner Bros. Discovery made the decision to release Season 2 of Peacemaker in August, scuttling the original plans for Superman‘s digital release. In all reality, the quick turnaround is unlikely to cause much harm to the box office total of the film and will more than likely spur another round of social media hype as fans who hadn’t seen it in theaters check in.

    Peacemaker Season 2 debuts on HBO Max.

    ‘Superman’ Featurette May Have Revealed the Villain of James Gunn’s ‘Super-Family’ Film

    During a recent earnings call with Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders, WB CEO David Zaslav celebrated the successful release of DC Studios first feature film, Superman, and teased “an ambitious, 10-year plan of interconnected sequels and spinoffs,” for the all-new, all-different DCU.

    “The DC vision is clear, the momentum is real. I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead,” said Zaslav, before teasing one of those “interconnected spinoffs,” that he called the “next movie in the Super-Family,” which he confirmed would be written and directed by DC Studios co-chair James Gunn.

    Gunn has teased the project on social media for some time, revealing it would star David Corenswet while never referring to it as a “true” sequel. Zaslav’s comments sparked a wave of theories about what the film might ultimately be but now a behind-the-scenes featurette, Adventures in the  Making of Superman, may have given away the film’s co-star and villain.

    At the 2:17 mark of the featurette, a storyboard for an unused scene comes into view for a couple of seconds as Gunn describes his love for “the Superman family comics.” The storyboard features Superman, Supergirl and Krypto flying but a closer look at the bottom corner reveals the head of one of the House of El’s greatest enemies: Brainiac.

    That scene clearly never made it into Superman nor did Brainiac; however, it’s entirely possible that the idea from what was likely an earlier draft of the film was removed and has been developed by Gunn for the “Super(man)-Family” film Zaslav mentioned. Gunn had previously revealed that the villain “was considered” for Superman and with Supergirl hitting theaters in 2026, it wouldn’t take much to give some background to Brainiac’s fascination with Kryptonions and reveal that he visited Krypton before it was destroyed and shrunk and stole the capital city of Kandor.

    Of course, there’s some chance it could have been a random inclusion but by letting it linger on screen while discussing the House of El, it certainly seems like an intentional tease.

    Ryan Reynolds Ignites ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Speculation with New Instagram Post

    It has been about two and a half months since Marvel Studios used empty chairs to capture the entire world’s attention for roughly five hours while revealing part of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. While rumors have circulated that 33 more stars will eventually be announced as part of the cast, bringing the count to 60, so far, Marvel Studios has remained quiet on that front. However, one MCU star just ignited speculation that further casting reveals may be imminent.

    Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds shared an image of an Avengers “A” overlayed with an anarchy symbol–seen in Cassandra Nova’s lair in the 2024 film–causing fans to believe an announcement that Reynolds has joined Avengers: Doomsday is pending.

    While Reynolds has stated in the past that he doesn’t want his character to join the Avengers and X-Men, he does see a path forward for Deadpool in big team-up films. “The character trait I love most about Deadpool is that he’s a fanboy. His enthusiasm and longing to be part of a team is really endearing to me. It’s his overarching wish-fulfillment story. But I don’t think he should ever be an Avenger or an X-Man,” Reynolds explained. “If he becomes either, we’re at the end.“

    “I think Deadpool works so well appearing with the X-Men and Avengers, but he always needs to stay an outsider. His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted,” said Reynolds. With a clear vision for the character from Reynolds and with MCU boss Kevin Feige “wondering where we can fit [Deadpool and Wolverine] in, and how quickly,” it would be shocking not to see Wade Wilson and Logan make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars.

    Insider Compares ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ to One of Marvel Studios’ Best Films

    Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already generated a ton of hype as production has gotten underway in Glasgow, Scotland. With Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink and Michael Mando among those joining Tom Holland in the film, fans are buzzing about the project while also trying to deduce just what might be going on in it. With a handful of street-level villains, a raging Punisher and a rampaging Hulk, it seems as though Peter Parker will find himself in quite a predicament no matter which way he turns, meaning fans can expect quite a bit of action. And according new report from one of the busiest scoopers in the game, the action in Destin Daniel Cretton‘s flick may be on par with one of Marvel Studios’ best films.

    Social media scooper My Time To Shine Hello, who seems to be dialed in on what’s happening on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, has compared the film to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

    “Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the biggest Spidey movie yet,” claimed MTTSH. “Despite being more ‘street-level,’ it’s even been described to me as Captain America: The Winter Soldier for Spider-Man.“

    While the social media scooper was not clear on exactly how the fourth installment in the Spidey franchise might resemble the 2014 sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, it still lands as incredibly high praise and may raise expectations even further for the film. The Winter Soldier was a game changer both for the MCU and for Chris Evans as Steve Rogers; if Brand New Day delivers the same, status quo-changing dynamic as the spy thriller, fans will be riding a massive wave of energy into Avengers: Doomsday.

    Directed by the Russo brothers, the film is a masterclass in action and suspense. The hand-to-hand combat is brutal and visceral, a stark contrast to the more fantastical battles of other MCU films. The Winter Soldier not only redefined Captain America’s character but also reshaped the entire MCU. Its events had massive ripple effects, fundamentally altering the landscape of the cinematic universe and paving the way for future stories like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It’s a crucial piece of the puzzle, a thrilling standalone film, and a testament to Marvel’s willingness to take risks with its characters and its storytelling.

    ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’: Michael Mando Doubles Down on Mac Gargan’s Venomous Role

    Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks set to have plenty of villains looking to tangle Tom Holland‘s Wall-Crawler. Several months ago, a report claimed that Tombstone, Boomerang, Tarantula and Scorpion were set for the new film, as was Mac Gargan, first played by Michael Mando in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

    To date, none of those villains have been seen taking on Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man on set, though rumors persist that the tank chase scene filmed during the project’s first week in production did indeed feature Mando’s Gargan. For his part, Mando–whose last MCU appearance was in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming–used social media to tease a monstrous turn for his character and now, ahead of a scheduled action scene that would feature Spidey squaring up with Gargan, Mando has once again teased his character’s transformation into Scorpion and Venom.

    Following Mando’s initial tease, we theorized that Gargan could play an incredibly large role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, including bonding with the fragment of the symbiote that Tom Hardy‘s Eddie Brock left behind during his visit to the Sacred Timeline. Mando’s latest IG story not only teases Gargan’s transformation into Venom but does so using a picture that also shows the character in his Scorpion suit, which has yet to be seen in live-action.

    Gargan’s role in the film will likely spin out of the end credit scene from Spider-Man: Homecoming, in which he hoped to learn the identity of the Wall-Crawler from Michael Keaton‘s Adrian Toomes while the two were in prison. By the time Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters, it will have been nearly a decade since that scene took place so it’ll be interesting to learn what Gargan has been up to in the meantime.

    Tom Holland Takes Fans Behind the Scenes of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

    Principal photography on Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been underway in Glasgow, Scotland for over a week and fans of the Web-Slinger have had plenty to celebrate. In a nearly unprecedented move for a Marvel production (thanks, Sony), official releases got ahead of set photos, revealing star Tom Holland‘s suit for the fourth installment in the MCU-set Spidey franchise. That was followed by plenty of photos and videos from the set, including an intense chase scene involving a tank, reportedly driven by Frank Castle. Now, as production in the UK continues, Sony has released a video recapping the first several days on set.

    While the video doesn’t reveal anything not already seen by the public, it does offer some great new views of Holland in action in the suit and him being a generally great human while interacting with fans. Filming is expected to extend through early Fall and Spider-Man: Brand New Day will swing into theaters on July 31, 2026.

    ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Writer Shares Ideas for Uncertain Sequel

    Marvel’s First Family finally joined the MCU in The Fantastic Four: First Steps just in time to help the Avengers and X-Men attempt to save a collapsing Multiverse. While the film hasn’t blown up the box office, Disney head honcho Bob Iger stated that the film, directed by Matt Shakman, “successfully launched this important franchise into the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” ahead of their appearances in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars; however, at this point, despite rumors that Marvel Studios was set to move ahead with a sequel, again directed by Shakman, there has been no official word.

    With four unfilled dates on its 2028 theatrical slate, Marvel could be eyeing one of them for a sequel to First Steps but if they are, they haven’t told anyone yet, including the writer of the first film, Eric Pearson. In an interview with Comic Book, Pearson, who has worked on several MCU films, including Thunderbolts*, explained that while he has some great ideas for a sequel, there’s a really good reason he hasn’t begun work on one just yet.

    “I honestly don’t know. I’m such a literal person that I would need to understand the fallout of how everything looks and who knows who out of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars,” he explained. “I don’t know where we are all sitting. Sometimes, when everything is on the table, you don’t know what to eat.” With Avengers: Doomsday deep into its production and still with an unfinished script, Pearson‘s point is very to the point.

    “Would it be cool to see them in a murder mystery together? Sure. Would it be cool to see them in a time-travelling romp? Sure, that would be cool. There are all these different things, but you don’t want to completely upset the apple cart,” he explained of trying to make plans for the First Family without knowing what will happen to them in two Avengers films over the next two years. “I feel like anything I’d have to say really doesn’t matter until we see how all our favorite characters survive the upcoming adventures with Victor von Doom.” With Avengers: Secret Wars primed to rest the MCU into what Kevin Feige called a “single timeline,” here’s to hoping The Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom both find their ways onto it for many more adventures.

    ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set Report Indicates Another Classic Spidey Foe Is Set to Appear

    Based on rumors and reports, Peter Parker looks to have his hands full in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In addition to villains Scorpion, Tombstone, Tarantula, Boomerang and Ramrod, he’ll also cross paths with Frank Castle and a rampaging Hulk! That’s certainly enough to keep any friendly neighborhood Spider-Man busy but it sounds as though another classic Spidey foe may join the fray.

    According to a set report from Glasgow World editor Paul Trainer, hidden in the “massive set piece” featured in multiple set photos and videos shared online last week was “a mock-up of the top half of the tank” Spider-Man was seen chasing. Though it was not seen in set leaks nor photographed by Trainer, the writer claims the mock-up tank has a prop attached to the front of it that “was the shape of a rhino’s head.”

    Though this is the first mention of the villain, who has battled with Spidey in the pages of Marvel Comics since 1966, an appearance by the chuckleheaded Russian thug does actually make at least some sense. Michael Mando recently teased that his Mac Gargan may be suiting up in a comic-accurate Scorpion suit in the film which could support the idea that someone is working behind the scenes to power up otherwise some of Spidey’s street-level foes.

    A recent report by insider Daniel Richtman stated that the main villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has yet to be revealed. While it certainly will not be Rhino, perhaps it will be a hidden benefactor with a grudge against the Spider…
