    Keeley Hawes Tapped to Co-Lead in ‘Orphan Black: Echoes’

    Orphan Black: Echoes is continuing to paint a picture of the series it will develop into with the announcement that Keeley Hawes is set to co-star alongside Krysten Ritter in the series. This comes after the recent announcement that Amanda Fix and Avan Jogia will also be joining the cast in lead roles for the series. Echoes’ showrunner is Anna Fishko and she is working closely with director and executive producer John Fawcett, who is the co-creator of the original series. This show will serve as an offshoot of the AMC’s main Orphan Black and is currently set to premiere AMC+ in 2023.

    Orphan Black: Echoes is set in the near future of the Orphan Black universe with the themes of human manipulation through science being ever-prevalent. It will follow a group of women struggling with the mysteries of their identities that brings them to unexpected turns and surprises involving love and betrayal. It has been confirmed that this mysterious group of characters will include Krysten Ritter’s and Keeley Hawes’. For Hawes specifically, her character has been described as a scientist with a strong moral code that she must come face to face with due to an unforeseeable choice. 

    Keeley Hawes is best known for her BAFTA-nominated performances in Mrs. Wilson, Line of Duty, and Bodyguard, respectively. Most recently she has starred in the British sci-fi series The Midwich Cuckoos. While the actress has an extensive career in the world of television, it can be argued that this role has the potential to serve as her “big break” through being in a marquee franchise of Orphan Black.

    Amanda Fix & Avan Jogia Board AMC’s ‘Orphan Black: Echoes’

    Amanda Fix and Avan Jogia have been cast in lead roles opposite Krysten Ritter for AMC’s Orphan Black sequel series, Orphan Black: Echoes. The news comes courtesy of Deadline with the outlet reporting that Fix will play Jules, a salty teen trying to find herself. She’s a newly adopted daughter of a wealthy couple and is described as being both reckless and brutally smart. While Jogia will portray Lucy’s (Ritter) boyfriend Jack; the character has devoted his life to his daughter, and soon finds the woman he loves is withholding a life-changing secret.

    Like in the original Orphan Black, the series will tackle cloning as it focuses on a near future where science has allowed for the manipulation of human existence. Echoes will see a group of women – two of which are played by Ritter and Fix – as they “weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unraveling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal.” The 10-episode series is being produced and distributed globally by Boat Rocker and is slated for a 2023 release on AMC Networks’ digital platform AMC+.

    Orphan Black: Echoes hails from creator, writer, showrunner, and executive producer Anna Fishko. She’ll co-showun the series with Orphan Black‘s co-creator, John Fawcett, who will also serve as a director and executive producer on Echoes. David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, who executive produced Orphan Black, will also produce Echoes for Boat Rocker.

    Fix is a relative newcomer to Hollywood, having appeared in the CW’s Kung Fu and Prime Video’s Daisy Jones & The Six. While Jogia is best known for Twisted and Victorious. He also starred in the film reboot of Resident Evil, titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

    ‘Jessica Jones’ Star Joins ‘Orphan Black’ Spinoff

    Krysten Ritter has booked her next TV gig. The Jessica Jones actress will star in AMC’s Orphan Black follow-up, Orphan Black: Echoes, which is slated to hit the small screen sometime next year.

    Along with starring in the follow-up for AMC, Ritter will also executive produce the 10-episodes series. Echoes is set in the world of the original series, and will revolve around a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives, embarking on a thrilling journey that will unravel the mystery of their identity – all while uncovering a story of love and betrayal. Ritter will portray Lucy, a character that is described as trying to find her place in the world. Like with the original show’s star, Tatiana Maslany, who is now leading She-Hulk, Ritter will more than likely play multiple clones in the series.

    Orphan Black: Echoes was first announced as being picked up to series back in April. This marks the first casting announcement for the series. Anna Fishko (The Society) serves as Echoes‘s creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer. The original series was created by screenwriter Graeme Manson and director John Fawcett, who will serve as co-showrunner on Echoes. Returning from the original series are Boat Rocker’s David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, who will executive produce alongside the company’s Katie O’Connell Marsh, Nick Nantell, and Kerry Appleyard.

    While a release date has not yet been announced, Orphan Black: Echoes is set for a 2023 release.

    AMC Officially Greenlights ‘Orphan Black’ Sequel Series

    Get ready Orphan Black fans, the ride isn’t over just yet. AMC has officially given the greenlight to a sequel series, titled Orphan Black: Echoes, set to premiere on the network in 2023. The first season, which will consist of ten episodes, is set to take place in the “near future,” and follow a group of women as they weave their way into each other’s lives and embark on a journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a story of love and betrayal.

    Echoes aims to take a deep dive into exploring the scientific manipulation of human existence, continuing the themes established in the fan favorite flagship series. John Fawcett, co-creator of the franchise, will return to executive produce and direct Echoes, with Fear the Walking Dead‘s Anna Fishko boarding the project as both showrunner and head writer. David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg, executive producers on Orphan Black through Boat Rocker studios, are also returning in the same role.

    The original series followed Tatiana Maslany‘s Sarah Manning, one of several genetically identical clones, as she investigated her own origins, went on the run from a mysterious and malicious force, and uncovered a plot far greater than her just herself. It lasted for five seasons, winning Maslany an Emmy and developing a cult following that persists to this day. It’s unknown if the previous star actress will make an appearance in the follow-up project, but her upcoming role as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s She-Hulk on Disney+ does make it seem unlikely. Either way, members of the Clone Club have plenty of reason to be excited about more raucous adventures from the world of Orphan Black.

    Anna Fishko to Write ‘Orphan Black’s Sequel Series for AMC

    AMC is working on a new sequel series based on Orphan Black, which was first hinted at all the way back in 2019. Variety just shared the news that Anna Fishko will write and act as an executive producer for the series continuation. So far, plot details still remain under wraps outside of the fact that it won’t act as a reboot of the original, but a new story set within the same world. Temple Street Productions is also returning to produce the series.

    Fishko has built up quite a reputation with AMC due to her work as a supervising producer of Fear the Walking Dead‘s fourth season. She also worked on Netflix’s The Society series, which sadly ended up getting canceled due to COVID indefinitely postponing production. She’s also worked on Colony, The Last Tycoon, and Tyrant in the past.

    The writer will take over the series which was created by John Fawcett and Graeme Manson, and ran for five seasons back in 2013. There’s no word if Tatiana Maslany might also appear in some capacity after leading the original series. It’s also uncertain if they might bring back the clone concept, or explore a different science-fiction concept. We might still have to wait sometime before we truly find out what the project has to offer..
