RUMOR: ‘Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Series Eyeing Late August Release

We’ve only recently got our first look at the upcoming live-action adaptation of One Piece and while the Internet is trying to figure out its thoughts on the project, we may already have our first hint at a potential release date. Netflix tends to focus on advertising its projects through short bursts, normally around two months ahead of a release like with Cowboy Bebop. But, it seems they are playing the long game this time around.

According to What’s on Netflix, they heard we may see the release of One Piece at some point in August. Surprisingly, they even shared a rather specific release date as the series is eyeing a potential drop on August 31st, 2023. That would mark a Thursday, which isn’t uncommon for a big Netflix series though Wednesday released, fittingly, on November 23rd, a Wednesday. It also is exciting to know that they are promoting a show almost seven months, as we’ve heard more about this series than even the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series which started production ahead of this adaptation.

The series sees original mangaka Eiichiro Oda as an executive producer with co-showrunners Steven Maeda and Matt Owens spearheading the project. If the release date is true, we might have to wait a bit until we find out as they commonly don’t confirm any specific release windows until shortly before. Plus, anything can change between now and then so we shouldn’t take it as a definite. Still, a late August release seems like a fitting way to end the summer season with a pirate adventure like no other.

  • New Rumor Reveals the First Avengers to Fall in ‘The Kang Dynasty’

New Rumor Reveals the First Avengers to Fall in ‘The Kang Dynasty’

While Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is still years away, the film is already starting to take shape through other projects. Obviously, Loki served to set the stage for the fifth Avengers film by introducing the concept of Variants, introducing He Who Remains and opening up the Multiverse. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness added the terrifying concept of Incursions to the mix and introduced a character (America Chavez) whose unique ability to traverse the Multiverse might be useful down the road. Up next is a film that even just a few months ago, relatively few people probably had on their radar as a major player in the Multiverse Saga: Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. The film will introduce a dangerous Variant of He Who Remains, Kang the Conqueror. This version of the character, who has been described as a warrior by both star Jonathan Majors and director Peyton Reed, is expected to be the big bad of 2025’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and will pose a threat not only to the heroes we know and love but also the entire Multiverse.

As the threat of Kang grows leading up to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, one ongoing thread will likely be the idea that, at present, Earth does not have a collection of its Mightiest Heroes actively working together. In fact, Phase 4 made it pretty clear that they’re all off doing their own things. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which the Avengers Compound was destroyed, there are plenty of heroes on Earth, including a lot of new ones, but so far they haven’t come face-to-face with a day unlike any other when they would find themselves united against a common threat. That day is coming, however, and when it does who will take the lead?

Thanks to a new rumor, MCU fans can have a little fun thinking things through while they wait. According to Heavy Spoilers, a trio of heroes will take the lead in what he referred to as the “first wave” of Avengers to take on Kang: Captain America, Shang-Chi and Shuri.

An interesting trio to be sure with two characters who are stepping into legacy roles and one who is both brand new and wielding a powerful set of weapons that some believe are directly tied to the Conqueror. The prevailing theory is that The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars will play much like Infinity War and Endgame and that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will fall and then rally. Given the unique nature of Kang’s power (which you’ll see on display in Quantumania) and the possibility that he’ll have quite an army on his side (he’s been building one in the Quantum Realm), it seems pretty likely that these characters might not fare well against the Master of Men and might well be taken off the board for a bit before returning in Secret Wars.

Who else should be among the first wave of Avengers to take on Kang? Let us know your thoughts.

  • RUMOR: ‘Blade’ May Have Found its New Director

RUMOR: ‘Blade’ May Have Found its New Director

It’s safe to say that Blade has had quite a turbulent pre-production. Shortly before production was set to start it lost its director Bassam Tariq, who is still attached as a producer, and rewrites had started on its script, which was initially written by Staci Osei-Kuffour. Moon Knight and X-Men ’97 head writer Beau DeMayo seemingly took over writing duties to get the script just right as the search for a new director started.

While there’s still no official announcement, a new rumor is making the rounds that they may have already found their new director. If the report is true, Elegance Bratton may have taken on the task to bring the iconic vampire hunter to life. He only recently made his directorial debut with The Inspection, which premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

It’s not new for Marvel Studios to pull from a talented pool of indie directors, even some that just started getting their name out there. Blade isn’t a small project with its main star, Mahershala Ali, having been attached for quite some time and as the driving force for the project. So, they may want to get their hands on some new talent that can lend a unique voice to the project.

Some believed the recent release of Werewolf by Night may have reopened up the possibility of newcomer director, and long-time composer Michael Giacchino taking over, but he took himself out of the race before rumors could spread. We’ll see if we get a director announcement soon, as Marvel Studios hopes not to lose too much time after already having to put the production on pause.

  • RUMOR: Tom Ellis in the Running for Reed Richards

RUMOR: Tom Ellis in the Running for Reed Richards

With a director set in place and a set of writers tackling the script, it shouldn’t be too surprising then that stories regarding the film’s cast have begun to circulate. A new rumor from the folks at Deux Moi suggests that Marvel Studios is already looking at actors for its first family, including actors from Lucifer and Hamilton.

Per Deux Moi, Maddie Hasson and Tom Ellis are reportedly in the running for the roles of Sue Storm and Reed Richards. The site also claims that Daveed Diggs has auditioned, although it’s not specified as to which part that might have been for. It’s also rumored that Michael Provost is the favorite for Johnny Storm, while Jason Biggs is thought to have auditioned for The Thing. It’s of note that this is all merely a rumor. In fact, Deux Moi previously reported that Alexandra Daddario and her brother, Matthew Daddario, were being considered for the movie.

These names, however, are an interesting mix of up-and-coming actors and established actors. Hasson has worked on a lot of television shows, such as ABC Family’s Twisted and Peacock’s Mr. Mercedes adaptation. While Ellis is perhaps best known for his starring role in Lucifer. Diggs, of course, got his big breakout with Hamilton and has since built a rather impressive resume that includes the Snowpiercer television series and the forthcoming Little Mermaid film. As for Provost, like Hasson, he’s perhaps best known for his work on the small screen, including Netflix’s Insatiable and Fear Street: Part Two – 1978. Biggs, of course, is best known for the American Pie films, but he’s also appeared in Orange Is the New Black and recently appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Production on Fantastic Four is expected to kick off next year. The film is slated to hit theaters on Feb. 14th, 2025.
