No Audition, No Script, Just London — Sadie Sink Breaks Down the Process Behind Landing Her Top Secret ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Role
The web of secrecy surrounding Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains tightly spun with only a few weeks left until its release. In an exclusive profile published by Variety, Stranger Things breakout star Sadie Sink shed light on the intensely guarded, highly unusual production process behind her mystery MCU debut.
As the film tracks toward its July 31, 2026 theatrical release, Sink revealed that landing a highly coveted role in the multi-billion dollar superhero franchise required zero auditioning—but came with an agonizing level of high-concept security.
For most actors, joining an MCU film requires an extensive, grueling gauntlet of chemistry tests and boardroom presentations. For Sink, the internet essentially willed it into existence.

Sink reiterated to Variety that she originally discovered she was destined for a Marvel suit after spotting frantic social media rumors pegging her for a major Spider-Man project. “Before I got cast, there was speculation online saying, ‘Sadie Sink is gonna be in the new Spider-Man.’ I was like, ‘I am?‘” she joked.
Sure enough, Marvel and Sony didn’t even bother with the audition process. Days after the internet rumors caught fire, the studio bypassed traditional casting completely and bypassed directly to a straight-to-talent direct offer. However, Sink disclosed that due to the film’s intensely guarded detective-mystery plot line, the studio refused to transmit digital script files over email.
Sink flew across the Atlantic entirely blind, confirming she did not physically read a single line of the Brand New Day screenplay until her plane officially touched down in London for principal photography. Keeping her character’s name hidden throughout a massive international press tour has proved to be an uphill battle. “It’s torture,” Sink admitted regarding the non-disclosure agreements. “And there’s so much speculation, too. I feel like there’s a new character every week.”

Sink‘s not wrong. Rumors had her playing a Mary Jane Watson Variant, the daughter of Toby Maguire‘s Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst‘s MJ, Mayday Parker, and an “alternate universe Gwen Stacy“…all within months of her casting, kicking off an insider info war.
However, industry insiders first pegged Sink as a major frontrunner to portray Earth-616’s Jean Grey months before her official signing. Set spies previously spotted her dressed in a highly distinct green-and-yellow palette, with narrative rumors suggesting her character functions as a caustic, street-smart tortured youth heavily inspired by Mark Millar‘s Ultimate X-Men comic run. The Ultimate Universe iteration of Jean famously used telepathic manipulation to invade minds and camouflage her identity—a power set that analysts point out would perfectly explain how her character is able to naturally bypass Doctor Strange’s universe-wide memory wipe to remember Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker.
The revelation that Marvel Studios offered Sink a potential franchise role without a single audition proves her standing in Hollywood. Director Destin Daniel Cretton and Marvel Head Cheese Kevin Feige didn’t need to see her read; they wanted her specific, emotionally intense screen presence to anchor their next era.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Runtime Revealed
The structural blueprint for Peter Parker’s next massive cinematic chapter is officially locked down. While theatrical exhibitors spent early June floating various placeholder lengths ranging from 145 to 150 minutes, the definitive final cut of Destin Daniel Cretton‘s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been verified.
According to highly trusted industry runtime specialist Cryptic4KQual, the official, down-to-the-second final runtime for the film sits at 2 hours and 24 minutes (144 minutes total). Brand New Day lands four minutes shy of Spider-Man: No Way Home (148 minutes), making it the second-longest live-action solo Spider-Man movie ever produced.
Peter Parker is dealing with a totally decentralized reality: he is entirely broke, living anonymously in a cramped apartment, collaborating with Liza Colón-Zayas‘ Detective Jean DeWolff, and tracking unusual, erratic crime patterns across the boroughs. When you add the confirmed physical presence of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, and the sudden, overarching threat of The Hand operating in the dark, 2 hours and 24 minutes gives Cretton the required runway required to balance complex character drama with hard-hitting, stylized street action without rushing the script’s core mystery.

Tom Holland Reveals Main Villain of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Has Not Leaked Yet
Just when you thought the web was fully unraveled, Tom Holland has dropped a bomb on our narrative expectations. Speaking at a high-profile press event in Berlin, the Spidey star confirmed that the true main antagonist of Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains completely hidden from the public eye.
“The main villain has not been leaked yet,” Holland shared with a grin, completely fracturing the current scooper consensus. “It’s still very much a secret.” If heavy hitters like Scorpion and Tombstone are merely secondary obstacles or physical muscle, it means the ultimate architect behind Peter’s street-level nightmare is operating completely in the shadows.
Holland confirming that the real antagonist is still completely hidden suggests Destin Daniel Cretton is running a massive misdirection campaign—fueling heavy industry whispers that the plot is masking a psychological shape-shifter or a deeply embedded mastermind like The Chameleon or Dr. Miles Warren.

Of course, it’s possible that Holland is simply attempting to divert attention away from Sadie Sink‘s character, who the trailer presents as an incredibly powerful telepath and who has repeatedly been reported to be Jean Grey.
Holland is a master of the promotional cycle, and dropping this baseline confirmation right as ticket pre-sales cross historic thresholds is brilliant demographic management. It shifts Brand New Day away from a standard, predictable Sinister Six rehash and transforms it into a high-stakes psychological mystery. If the main villain is safe from the leak trackers just five weeks out from release, Kevin Feige has successfully locked down a theater experience that will leave audiences completely blindsided on July 31.

Tom Holland Teases a “Bright” Spider-Verse Future and Fresh Faces in the MCU
The promotional tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is officially hitting hyperdrive, and Tom Holland is starting to talk look ahead to what happens after the smoke clears from Peter Parker’s upcoming detective arc. Despite being on the fence about returning initially, Holland has declared Brand New Day as “the best Spider-Man movie we’ve ever made,” teasing a deeply personal, isolation-driven study of Peter Parker
Speaking on the Spanish television program El Hormiguero, Holland dropped a tantalizing quote about the long-term trajectory of the franchise, heavily hinting that Marvel and Sony are actively prepping the runway to expand the live-action Spider-Verse.
“All I can say is that the future of Spider-Man is really bright, and we have plans to introduce really exciting new characters,” Holland teased. “How will they do that? We don’t know yet, but that’s how it will be, and it will be awesome.”
Setting Up the Next Generation

While Holland’s quote is characteristically tight-lipped, his concurrent press junket comments for Esquire UK and Empire paint a much clearer picture of what this “bright future” actually looks like: a heavy focus on legacy and mentorship.
Holland has completely walked back his old stance on leaving the character behind by 30. Instead, he’s explicitly framing his future around replicating the exact dynamic he had with Robert Downey Jr. “In the way that Robert Downey was such a mentor for me in my first three movies, I would love to be that person for whoever is next,” Holland shared.
The actor openly name-dropped Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Woman as the logical next chapters he wants to help develop. Recently, in his Esquire cover story, Holland personally backed 16-year-old Adolescence breakout Owen Cooper as his dream choice to play a younger web-slinger down the line.
Holland has been playing Peter Parker for a decade, having been cast at just 18 years old. Hearing him confidently state that the future involves introducing “really exciting new characters” while actively comparing his future role to RDJ’s Tony Stark proves that Marvel Studios is building a multi-generational Spidey pipeline. Brand New Day isn’t the end of a road; it is the foundation for an expanded, interconnected live-action universe where Peter Parker finally steps up as a veteran leader.
By utilizing the July 31 film to isolate Peter via a four-year time jump, Destin Daniel Cretton is carving out the perfect narrative space for Peter to eventually find, train, or stumble upon younger heroes like Miles Morales. The friendly neighborhood is getting bigger…

‘Severance: Star Tramell Tillman Casts Doubt on the Nature of His Role in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
In August, trade reports indicated that Severance and Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning star Tramell Tillman joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Initially, the word that Tillman was set to join the fourth installment of the Spidey franchise as a villain; however, months into filming, Tillman’s role remains a mystery and now the star has called into question the veracity of those early reports.
In a brief interview with Variety, Tillman played coy about his role while responding to a question about his potentially villainous character by asking, “Who says I’m playing a villain?”.
Interestingly, despite never having been caught on location yet, Tillman revealed he’s already begun work on the film, scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
I’m told that Marvel has a plan to say goodbye to Kang. They’re going to wrap him up. I think they want to give him the boot just to put to bed any…I think they’re going to deal with Kang somehow. A small little thing… probably in one of the Avengers movies. I’ve heard Doctor Doom could be the one who kills him.
-Jeff “The In” SneiderWhile reports from early 2025 claimed that Tillman was set to take over the role of Kang from Jonathan Majors, more recent insider buzz has made an effort to discredit the idea. Truly, yet another villain in Spider-Man: Brand New Day seems like overkill with Tombstone, Scorpion and, allegedly, Sadie Sink‘s shape-shifting character set to antagonize Spidey while he’ll also have to deal with both a rampaging Hulk and The Punisher.
Given the expansive roster of interesting characters in Spidey’s orbit, there’s no doubt that Tillman would be a far greater asset to the MCU as a character–ally or enemy–who can carry on beyond a one-off appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Latest Sadie Sink Rumor Could Mean a Wildly Unexpected Turn for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
After two weeks of filming in Glasgow, Scotland, it looks as though production on Spider-Man: Brand New Day is headed back to Buckinghamshire, England where Pinewood Studios serves as the movie’s “home base.” Fans were treated to plenty of photos and videos from the Glasgow set, including some spoilery shots of Frank Castle’s new Battle Van; however, despite rumors to the contrary, the film’s co-star, Sadie Sink, never made it to Glasgow.
Since being cast in March, Sink has been at the center of an insider info war with several scoopers sharing a half-dozen or so potential characters that the Stranger Things star could be playing. Ranging from Jean Grey to a Mary Jane Watson Variant to Gwen Stacy to Mayday Parker, the rumored possibilities all fit with the film’s street-level plot. However, a new rumor from a source not previously part of the info war has shared an intriguing rumor that, if true, could send the plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in an entirely unexpected and wild direction.
Nexus Point News EIC Demet took to X to share word that she’s been told Sink’s character was named–or possibly codenamed–Annabelle Adams. A relatively minor character with only 15 appearances in the pages of Marvel Comics, Adams seems like a boring choice at first; however, the studio could be looking to use her as the host of a far more interesting character.
After being introduced as the love interest of Peter Parker clone Kaine, Annabelle Adams story took a major turn in Edge of the Spider-Verse Volume 2 when she became entangled with the shape shifting deity Shathra.

Should the studio be looking to use Adams as some sort of host for Shathra, the film, featuring The Punisher, Scorpion and several other street-level baddies could take a multiversal turn, potentially tying it to Sony’s animated Spider-Verse franchise ahead of the end of The Multiverse Saga.
Of course, speculation based on a rumor is hardly the best way to go but this latest rumor does share some commonality with some information making its way through some certain circles. If nothing else, it makes for a very different bit of conversation than what’s been taking place.

The Hulk’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Role Reportedly Revealed
The news that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature Mark Ruffalo in a “substantial role” has generated some serious hype for the 2026 film. After years of rumors about the film’s potential plot and cast, fans seem to believe that Bruce Banner to finally meeting up with Spider-Man after nearly a decade of them failing to cross one another’s paths is a recipe for success. Now, a new rumor sprinkles even more spice into the mix.
According to a pair of rumors making their way around, Ruffalo‘s Hulk will serve as the main villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Though it’s unclear why, the rumors suggest the Savage Hulk will return and that the showdown between him and Spider-Man will be central to marketing the film.
With one part of the rumor reportedly stemming from a conversation with Chris Higashi, an entertainment journalist who claimed that Boomerang, Scorpion and Tombstone were revealed as part of Spider-Man: Brand New Day at the recent Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products presentation, also comes word that Tarantula will have a role in the film as well.

Although the timing of these recent rumors can and should be questioned, fans have already begun to theorize what might cause Banner to revert to the Savage Hulk, and that the film will launch the MCU’s long-rumored World War Hulk project. With the film not set to hit theaters until July 31, 2026, expect plenty more rumors like these to emerge, and keep in mind that multiple reputable insiders leaked accurate information about Spider-Man: No Way Home that was initially disregarded until the film’s release.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Villains Reportedly Revealed
With production set to kick off on Spider-Man: Brand New Day in just a few months, it’s relatively incredible how little is known about the Sony and Marvel Studios collaboration. While there have been plenty of rumors about potential plots, characters and locations, little has emerged outside of the casting of Sadie Sink, whose role may be linked to Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man Trilogy. However, in an unexpected turn, it’s possible Disney revealed a great deal of information all at once.
Instagram user Chris Higashi was in attendance at the Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products presentation and took to his account to share what he took in, including the identity of THREE villains set to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
According to Higashi, the fourth installment in Sony’s MCU-set Spider-Man franchise will feature Tom Holland’s Spidey taking on Scorpion, Boomerang and Tombstone.
If accurate, the trio of villains is miles apart from the rumors that have made the rounds over the past few years. Additionally, it would call into question the legitimacy of recent reports of Mister Negative being the film’s protagonist, though it’s still possible he could appear if one of the other villains, such as Boomerang, wasn’t meant to have a major role or, as happened in the comics, he’s also a friend of Peter’s.

Should Scorpion be among those tangling with Spidey in Brand New Day, it would follow up on one of the MCU’s many unresolved post-credit scenes and should mean the return on Michael Mando in the role. Interestingly, Scorpion and Tombstone featured in Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
While no confirmation has come down on these characters appearing in the film, it’s also not yet been debunked. We’ll continue to monitor this interesting development

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Rumored to Feature a Major Connection to Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy
The fourth film in Sony and Marvel’s MCU-set Spider-Man franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, won’t begin production for several more months but that hasn’t stopped the project from routinely making headlines.
After years of rumored plot lines that stretched from a street-level Civil War to a massive Multiversal adventure featuring The King in Black, the casting of Stranger Things star Sadie Sink set off an all-new, all-different wave of rumors centered on the identity of her character. Originally rumored to be a contender for the role of Jean Grey in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot, Sink‘s likely isn’t portraying that character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day but was, at one point, reportedly playing an alternate universe Mary Jane Watson which would be incredibly disappointing. Now, a new rumor suggests Sink will not be playing Mary Jane but rather someone with whom she would be awfully familiar.
According to the Hot Mic Podcast’s John Rocha, Sink is set to portray May “Mayday” Parker, the daughter of Tobey Maguire‘s Peter Parker and, presumably, Kirsten Dunst‘s Mary Jane Watson.

Tied to the controversial 1990s Clone Saga in which Mary Jane and Peter’s baby was stillborn, Mayday was brought back into the fold in What If…? #105 and was a major character in Marvel’s MC2 imprint. The character was so popular that the studio launched a Spider-Girl solo book by creators Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenzy that, at the time, grew to become Marvel’s longest-running female-centric title.
Should Sink indeed be portraying Mayday, it might truly be a stroke of genius by the studio. As the daughter of Peter-Two/The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Mayday would not only introduce another web-slinger (with one of THE best Spider suits ever designed) to work alongside star Tom Holland but also potentially become a major player in Avengers: Secret Wars. And, should Sony and/or Marvel so choose, become either a key player in the next MCU saga or help Sony relaunch its Spidey-related efforts.
