Disney Reveals Where the Events of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Fall on the MCU Timeline

With the arrival of Spider-Man: Homecoming on Disney Plus comes the revelation of where the events of Tom Holland‘s first solo outing as the Web-Head falls on the MCU timeline. As it turns out, it’s right where most folks have believed it belonged all along.

According to the “Marvel Cinematic Universe in Timeline Order” category located in the Marvel section of Disney Plus, the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming takes place in between the events of Black Panther and Doctor Strange. Both Black Panther and Homecoming spin out of Captain America: Civil War which introduced both T’Challa and Peter Parker into the MCU so the events of their solo films taking place near each other chronologically has always made sense.

The debate of whether to watch Marvel Studios films in release or chronological order has been ongoing for some time which makes every new addition to Disney Plus a point of interest for MCU fans. Though these timelines may not be “official”, an official timeline is coming later in 2023. In September Random House will publish Marvel Studios The Marvel Cinematic Universe An Official Timeline, written by Anthony Breznican, Amy Ratcliffe and Rebecca Theodore-Vachon in collaboration with Marvel Studios. It’s likely that the timeline will delve much deeper into the minutia of the MCU, revealing which projects–or events within them–took place simultaneously. Until then, the Disney Plus timeline is the best one we have!

Peter Parker’s first solo MCU adventure is finally heading to Disney Plus. As part of a series of announcements by Marvel, it was revealed that Spider-Man: Homecoming will be available on the streaming service beginning May 12th.

Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy (Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3), starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, will be available to stream on the service beginning April 21st as well Mark Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man, which starred Andrew Garfield as the Web-Head. Homecoming and Sony Pictures Venom will join the other films on the service on May 12th.

Of course, all three Spider-Men appeared side-by-side-by-side in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and that film’s post-credit scene featured Tom Hardy‘s Eddie Brock and his symbiote hanging out in the MCU. As fans wait to see what’s next for Tom Holland‘s Spidey in the MCU, now hey can at least rewatch his first MCU adventure and some of the multiversal Spidey shenanigans on Disney Plus.

John Leguizamo Explains How He Was Almost in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

John Leguizamo has a long history with the world of comics. The actor starred as Violator in 1997’s Spawn, played Javier in 2013’s Kick-Ass 2, created PhenomX for Image Comics in 2021 and voiced The Riddler in the podcast Batman: The Audio Adventures through 2022. It seems Leguizamo almost had one more big role to add to his resume until another icon swooped in and took it.

In an interview with Comic Book, Leguizamo revealed that he was set to play Adrian Toomes, aka the Vulture, in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. That role ultimately went to Michael Keaton but as Leguizamo explained, it was a last-minute switch.

I was supposed to be the Vulture. We had negotiated and I was about to play him, and they said that Michael Keaton wanted it back and they asked me if I would give it up. I said, ‘Well, okay I guess.’ They said, ‘No, we’ll work with you again, we’re gonna…’ That’s what happened there.

Leguizamo‘s story calls to mind Keaton’s interesting history with the role. After being reported as in talks, Keaton dropped out of negotiations before swooping back in and landing the role a month later. After being expected to reprise the role of Toomes in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Keaton’s character was nowhere to be found.

Leguizamo added that he has since turned down another role with the studio. “They offered me something tiny,” he said, adding,”I went, ‘Nuh uh.’” That means that fans of the talented actor can still hold out hope for him to find the right role in the MCU a some point down the road.
