The Morning After Huddle: September 2, 2022

Happy Football Friday and welcome to another edition of The Morning After Huddle!

Here’s what you need to know:

    • First, Titans Running Back Derrick Henry is a very happy man this morning. Henry is now the highest-paid running back in the NFL. The Titans reworked his contract to give him a $2 million raise for the 2022 season for a total of $14 million. Henry will be a free agent once this deal expires and this gives the Titans the ability to create a new deal in the off-season.
    • Moving along, new Saints and Former Jets Safety Marcus Maye is in trouble with the law. Maye is facing charges of aggravated assault related to a road rage incident. Police say that Maye is the driver in an incident that involves pointing a firearm at another vehicle that was occupied by juvenile females. Maye’s lawyer denies the claims. Maye is still facing discipline for a 2021 arrest related to driving under the influence and leaving the scene. More to come with this story.
    • Next, Cardinals cornerback Antonio Hamilton is heading to the non-football injury list. Hamilton is revealing news of a kitchen accident over the weekend. He shared photos via his social media showing what appears to be second-degree burns after a ”freak accident”.” The burns are the result of spilling cooking oil. Hamilton is now set to miss at least the first four games of the season as he recovers.
    • Finally, your Key Signings and Trades Roundup:

The Morning After Huddle: May 18, 2022

Welcome to another edition of The Morning After Huddle where we report on the “X’s”, the “O’s” and everything in between. The Cleveland Browns offseason has been filled more twists and turns than your favorite show’s season finale and it’s about to get more intense.

Here is what you need to know:

    • Ed Werder reports the first direct meetings between the NFL’s investigative team and Browns QB DeShaun Watson began yesterday. The league will determine if he violated its Personal Conduct Policy and whether discipline could be handed down. The Browns, aware of this situation, configured Watson’s contract to be backloaded, with Watson only making just north of a $1M salary for 2022. (More details here)
    • According to Beyoncé, girls run the world and in the world of sports betting, women are definitely making some noise. According to Global Wireless Solutions, more than 4.6 million women joined sports betting apps in 2021. Diving deeper, a staggering 1.7M women joined FanDuel and an additional 900,00 women joined DraftKings.
    • Rounding out today’s news is your Key Signings Roundup: Former Bears RB Tarik Cohen has been attempting to make a comeback since 2020. Unfortunately, during his workouts yesterday, he suffered what appears to be a serious injury. (we will not share the video) Hours later, the injury was confirmed to be a torn achilles. We wish Tarik a speedy recovery!

Thanks for jumping into the huddle with us today! Catch us tomorrow as we break down more news.

The Morning After Huddle: May 10, 2022 Edition

This morning after huddle is brought to you by yours truly, as I pinch hit for the real Megatron, Meg Hall. The news is really schedule-focused, as we are barreling towards the complete NFL schedule release on Saturday. Let’s dive right in, unlike Cam Newton on the fumble in the Super Bowl versus Denver.

    • The NFL announced that the Super Bowl champion Rams and Russell Wilson’s Denver Broncos will headline the Christmas Day slate. A matchup this late in the season should have playoff implications for both teams, and you get a marquee QB matchup with star power on both sides.
    • Speaking of the Rams, they lost some RB depth yesterday. Ian Rapaport reported that Sony Michel has joined Mike McDaniel’s Miami Dolphins, where he will presumably back up free agent addition Chase Edmonds. Michel is coming off a season where he rushed for 845 yards and 4 TDs filling in for Cam Akers.
    • Speaking of the schedule, the NFL also announced their week 2 Monday Night Football doubleheader: they will open with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills will take on the great mentor that is Ryan Tannehill and the Tennessee Titans, and it will be followed by Kirk Cousins and the Vikings taking on an Eagles team who had one of the better drafts.
    • Now that the NFL Draft is in the clear, teams have started to finalize cuts that were rumored all offseason. One such cut is CB James Bradberry, who was one of Dave Gettleman’s expensive signings as General Manager of the New York Giants. The Giants released him yesterday, saving $10.1M (leaving a dead money hit of $11.7M, yikes!) and thus being able to sign their rookies. The Giants will enter training camp, barring any additional moves, with Adoree Jackson as their best cornerback in a system that relies heavily on corners being left on an island.
    • Lastly, Aidan Hutchinson has agreed to his rookie deal with the Detroit Lions. Due to the rookie scale, we’ve seen less holdouts than in years past, with a majority of them coming from offset language. It’s a great look for the Lions, still building their identity, to get their top pick signed and ready for camp.

That does it for today’s edition. Check back tomorrow for the latest in NFL news.

  • The Morning After Huddle: May 4, 2022 Edition

The Morning After Huddle: May 4, 2022 Edition

Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of The Morning After Huddle. There are several updates today that you’ll want to dig into.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Ryan Tannehill found himself making headlines, Tuesday, during a team presser. The Titans QB made it clear he didn’t know about the move to draft Malik Willis and was quoted as saying, “I don’t think it’s my job to mentor [Malik Willis], but if he learns from me along the way then that’s a great thing.”
    • The first two pre-season games of the fall will look a bit different this year as the NFL has approved a measure for players to wear a Guardian Cap. The NFL’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Allen Sills, spoke with NFL Network about what this means for players.
    • Finally, NFL offseason program dates have been announced and several teams have rookie mini-camps this weekend. (Full Details)

That’s it for today’s edition. Catch us tomorrow morning for more news!
