  • Netflix’s ‘Spy Kids’ Reboot Adds ‘No Time to Die’ Actor

Netflix’s ‘Spy Kids’ Reboot Adds ‘No Time to Die’ Actor

Billy Magnussen is the latest actor to join the cast of Netflix’s Spy Kids reboot. He joins the previously announced Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Everly Carganilla, and Connor Esterson. Details surrounding Magnussen’s role are being kept under wraps.

The latest Spy Kids film, which hails from franchise creator Robert Rodriguez, is set after the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful game develop and unleash a computer virus allowing him to control all technology. This will lead the children to become spies themselves as they seek to save both their parents and the rest of the world. Rodriguez is on board to direct and produce the film. He will also co-write it alongside Racer Max.

Magnussen has had quite a busy year. The actor most recently starred in the James Bond film, No Time to Die, as well as the Sopranos prequel, The Many Saints of Newark. He’s next set to appear in Netflix’s Lift with the likes of Kevin Hart, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Vincent D’Onofrio. He’ll also executive produce and star in the film Reunion, which also features Chace Crawford (The Boys) and Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries). He was also set to appear in a Disney+ spinoff featuring his character from Aladdin, however, that project looks to still be in development.

Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce the film and oversee development and production. While Elizabeth Avellan and Max will join as producers. Netflix’s Nick Nesbit will serve as a creative lead on the reboot.

As of now, the Spy Kids reboot does not yet have a release date on Netflix.

  • Netflix’s ‘Spy Kids’ Finds Its Family

Netflix’s ‘Spy Kids’ Finds Its Family

Deadline reports that Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi will headline the newest Spy Kids film, while Everly Carganilla and newcomer Connor Esterson will play their kids. The new film will be directed and produced by Spy Kids creator Robert Rodriguez. He’ll also co-write the latest film with Racer Max. This marks a return to Netflix for Rodriguez who saw success with his 2020 family film, We Can be Heroes, on the streaming platform.

The latest chapter of the Spy Kids franchise will see the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that will give him control of all technology. This will lead the kids to become spies themselves to save their parents and, of course, the world.

Rodriguez, who is perhaps best known for her leading role in the CW’s Jane the Virgin, has seen her star rise considerably over the years. Along with having appeared in Someone Great and Amazon’s I Want You Back, she’s also set to star in the ABC series Not Dead Yet. While Levi is perhaps best known for his work on the TV series Chuck, as well as his leading role in Shazam! For DC and Warner Bros.

Also producing the film will be David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger for Skydance, as well as Elizabeth Avellan and Racer Max. While Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre will executive produce and Nick Nesbit will serve as Netflix’s creative lead on the film.

  • Robert Rodriguez to Reboot ‘Spy Kids’ for Netflix

Robert Rodriguez to Reboot ‘Spy Kids’ for Netflix

Robert Rodriguez has been happily returning to some of his older franchises, as after reviving The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl with the sequel film We Can Be Heroes, he now sets his eyes on the Spy Kids franchise. Not only is he once again reuniting with Netflix to continue one of his classics, but he will focus on a new generation of Spy Kids, but while the script remains under wraps it’ll be a whole new family of spies.

It’s unclear if we might expect cameos by Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Daryl Sabara, or Alexa Vega in the project. He’s no stranger to seeing the return of veteran actors and we might get some callbacks to the family that kickstarted the original film back in 2001. Skydance Media alongside the rights owner Spyglass Media are on board. The last entry was back in 2011 with Spy Kids: All The Time in the World.

Robert Rodriguez will join the project as a director and also write the project. He just recently finished up work on The Book of Boba Fett and it seems that he’s already preparing for his next project. It’s unclear if he still has plans to return to the Star Wars universe at some point as well, but it seems he’ll have his hands full with rebooting his own franchises.
