D23 is going to be a busy weekend for everyone in the entertainment business, as there’ll be quite a lot to write about. With a lot of focus on what Marvel may have to offer, there are a lot of Disney+ originals heading our way that’ll offer some distraction from the usual MCU fanfare. While we not only got a first look at Indiana Jones 5 through concept art and costumes from the sequel, it seems the same treatment was given to the upcoming Disney+ continuation of Willow, as shared by Andrew Rainer on Twitter.

SWCA: Disney+’s ‘Willow’ Takes Place 20 Years After Original, to Release in November
While Star Wars Celebration event is all about the galaxy far far away, that doesn’t stop Lucasfilm from also promoting some of its other projects. As shared by our own Hunter Radesi, they revealed some details on the Disney+ sequel to the original 1988 Willow. It turns out the series will take 20 years after the original, even if the time difference between the films is much larger.
Warwick Davis is naturally reprising his role, but his daughter will also play his daughter in the series. Joanne Whalley will reprise her role as Sorsha, as the series will release on Disney+ on November 30th.

Disney+’s ‘Willow’ Series Adds ‘Game of Thrones’ Rosabell Laurenti Sellers
We haven’t heard much on Disney+’s upcoming series Willow. Lucasfilm is reviving the 1980 fantasy classic and has assembled quite the cast. The story will feature a princess that assembles a group of heroes to help her rescue her twin brother. Warwick Davis returns in the iconic role and will be joined by Tony Revolori, Amer Chadha-Patel, Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, and Erin Kellyman. Now, it seems that they are joining another fantasy alum in the form of Game of Thrones‘ Rosabell Laurenti Sellers.
Not much is stated about her character besides the statement that she’ll play someone who is a “resourceful character with shape, acerbic wit.” The actress made her big splash playing Tyene Sand on the HBO series. She also appeared on Mia and Me, Spides, and joined John Travolta in the drama Trading Point. She’s also set to appear in What About Love, where she’ll star opposite Sharon Stone and Andy Garcia.
It’s great to see Disney+ revive some cult classics by also giving them a new life. It’ll be interesting to see if they’ll include any callbacks to the original Willow outside of it being a direct continuation. We got a tease during Disney+ Day that was mostly just from the staff while Warwick roasted the younger cast members. It was a great tease as they just started production at the time.

DISNEY+ DAY: ‘Willow’ Adds ‘The Birch’s Dempsey Bryk
It looks like Disney+ Day is not going to pump on the breaks anytime soon, as Deadline has just reported that The Birch‘s Dempsey Bryk has joined the cast of Willow, which will act as a continuation of the original 1988 film. Warwick Davis will reprise his role in the series from the original and it’s currently eyeing a 2022 premiere. The cult classic will make its grand return and continue the fantastical story that we’ve come to love back in 1988.
