  • Sam Wilson Rumored to Assemble a New Team of Heroes to Take on a Surprising Foe in ‘Captain America: New World Order’

Sam Wilson Rumored to Assemble a New Team of Heroes to Take on a Surprising Foe in ‘Captain America: New World Order’

Marvel Studios’ Phase 5 slate kicks off in less than two months with Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania and concludes in the Fall of 2024 with Deadpool 3. Phase 5 will explore cryptic MCU divisions such as the Quantum Realm, the supernatural and, of course, the Multiverse. It will also tackle some geopolitical stories and the real world-building will be done by two movies that will come back-to-back in 2024: Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts.

A fourth Captain America project was confirmed to be in the works at SDCC ’22 after Sam Wilson picked up the shield in The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. Set to be directed by Julius Onah and scribed by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, the film will see the return of Tim Blake Nelson‘s Samuel Sterns as the villain after nearly 16 years of absence from the MCU.

While Thunderbolts was also announced at SDCC ’22, the first concept art from the movie was displayed at D23 and caused some buzz. Featuring Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Ava Starr, Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, and U.S. Agent, the team is rumored to be taking on Sentry as they search the island nation of Genosha, which was formerly the corpse of the Celestial Tiamut.

A new rumor from insider Daniel RPK continues to tie the two films together. The rumor states that the plot of Captain America: New World Order will focus on an international conflict over Adamantium, discovered on Tiamut. Harrison Ford‘s Thunderbolt Ross (the POTUS) will join in on the Adamantium Rush and be the main antagonist of the film. Sam Wilson will oppose his plan and assemble a new team of superheroes to put an end to his scheme. This rumor didn’t spring up long after another rumor, very similar to this one, surfaced on the internet. The only difference between the two was that the other rumor described the situation from the Thunderbolts’ perspective, suggesting that both movies might be part of the same duology of a major power struggle over Genosha.

Captain America: New World Order releases in theaters on May 3, 2024. Thunderbolts arrives in theaters on July 26, 2024.

  • A Behind the Scenes Look at the Entirely Practical Costumes of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

A Behind the Scenes Look at the Entirely Practical Costumes of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is arguably the best movie in the MCU Phase 4 slate. It is critically acclaimed as Marvel Studios’ Magnum Opus, and currently stands at an 84% critics consensus on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score is even better with an approval rating of 94%, and a CinemaScore of ‘A’. So far, it has made nearly $800M at the global box office as it nears the end of its exclusive theatrical window.

The film hinted at where Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine will be headed in Phase 5, with this being her 3rd appearance in just under 2 years. The character is heavily rumored to play a prominent role in Captain America: New World Order and Thunderbolts. The movie also marked the first appearance of Ironheart in the MCU; Riri Williams will continue her journey in the 2023 series Ironheart, which wrapped filming in late October.

Like the original film, Wakanda Forever brought the rich history of a hidden civilization to the MCU with the reveal of Talokan, an underwater kingdom. An enormous amount of work went into creating a culture for the hidden city in incredible detail.

On their official Facebook page, Wētā Workshop showcased their work for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, in collaboration with Academy Award-winning Costume Designer, Ruth Carter. The post featured richly detailed costumes for Namor, M’Baku, Attuma, Namora, and the warriors of Talokan.

The character designs for the Talokans, which received wide praise, were derived and inspired by Mesoamerican artwork. The costumes were entirely physical, which was quite a hassle for the actors.

“The headpiece is very heavy and under the water you can feel beauty in the costume, in the movements, and in all these things,” Namora actress Mabel Cadena said on the Cup of Soul Show. “But the first time, to me, was like ‘This costume is going to kill me under the water.’”

  • Charlie Cox Confirms Intense ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Filming Schedule

Charlie Cox Confirms Intense ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Filming Schedule

Daredevil: Born Again will be Marvel Studios’ first project featuring Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock as a lead character, and we are all for it. Following the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen’s appearance as his lawyer persona in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the costumed Daredevil made got his first taste of MCU action in the 2022 series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. In the show, Matt headed to the West Coast to defend superhero tailor Luke Jacobson.

At the German Comic Con, Cox expressed much anticipation about appearing in further MCU projects, such as Daredevil: Born Again, and teased a possible appearance in the third installment in the Deadpool trilogy, saying “I think there’s a place for Daredevil to show up in Deadpool.”

In October, DiscussingFilm founder Jacob Fisher went on Twitter to share news regarding Daredevil: Born Again‘s production. He reported that “the series is planning to begin filming in February and last for pretty much the entire year”, which was unsurprising, considering that the series will span 18 episodes.

In an interview with NME, Charlie Cox talked about returning as the Man Without Fear. He confirmed the filming schedule for Born Again, stating this:

“They said to me, ‘We’re going to be shooting in 2023’, I said, ‘Great, when?’ They said, ‘All 2023’. I start shooting in February and finish in December.”

Daredevil: Born Again will be one of Marvel Studios’ lone projects to film in New York, rather than Atlanta. This makes set media more probable, which will definitely reveal more about where Matt heads in this series. Daredevil: Born Again is currently expected to stream on Disney Plus in 2024.

  • Sony Releases the First Poster For ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’

Sony Releases the First Poster For ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse will feature more than 240 characters and will be set in 6 universes! The second trailer for the new installment in Sony’s Spider-Verse saga featured more than 20 webslingers, and this was just the beginning. The first plot details for the sequel have already confirmed Miles going rogue against the other variants, which we can’t wait to see.

As explained by director Kemp Powers in an interview with Empire, Miguel O’Hara, voiced by Oscar Isaac, will be the leader of a “band of fighters that are trying to clean up the consequences of the collider explosion at the end of the first movie.” As seen in the trailer, the fighters are obviously variants of Spider-Man who will be part of an organization working against The Spot.

However, the variants won’t be the main villains of the movie. As confirmed by the film’s producers and director, The Spot will be the villain of both the sequels to Into The Spider-Verse. Powers teased a secret connection between Miles and The Spot, which will be explored in the movie.

The Spot is an interesting villain because he seems like a joke, but when you really look at his powers, there’s incredible potential. His ability to open portals across dimensions sets him up perfectly for the Spider-Verse. He’s the villain of the next two films… and let’s just say that the Spot and Miles are connected in surprising ways.

  • ‘Across The Spider-Verse’ Producers Tease Spider-Man 2099 & The Spot

‘Across The Spider-Verse’ Producers Tease Spider-Man 2099 & The Spot

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is one of the most anticipated movies of 2023, and the views on the new trailer surely prove it. The first trailer for 2018’s Into The Spider-Verse gained just around 16M views in 5 years, while the trailer for its sequel amassed nearly 30M views in less than a week.

While Sony is planning on expanding its slate of live-action films with yet another villain-focused ‘Spider-Man’ movie, its animated section continues to grow the Spider-Verse franchise. The synopsis and first look at the movie look promising, and with all the delays so that the crew would have “more time to make it great”, we know the cape flick won’t disappoint.

As a part of their 2023 summer preview, Entertainment Weekly released a new still from Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. Included with the still were more details on the film’s plot, along with an interview with the film’s producers, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

    Spider-Man
Miles Morales as Spider-Man (Shameik Moore) in Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation’s SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE.

According to Miller, a key part of the film’s set-up is having the franchise lead Miles Morales go through all the usual struggles of a teen while also dealing with his additional responsibilities as a hero.

As he’s growing up, he’s trying to figure out how he can go out and see the world and spread his wings and leave the nest. But he also feels rooted to his home and his family. It’s that push-pull of your life as a teenager, where you’re like, How do I get to be my own person, but also not lose where I came from?

    Christopher Miller

One of those teenage things on Miles’s plate will be a developing relationship with Gwen Stacey, who he met in the first film. Gwen is also the key to an increased load of those new hero things as well, introducing Miles to a whole slew of characters, including Spider-Woman. EW further revealed that Spider-Woman will be Gwen’s mentor in the film, and will be voiced by Insecure’s Issa Rae. Lord affirms that “a lot of work has gone into making that character look great,” and adds “If you’ve ever been around Issa, she’s such a dynamo of talent and grace, so you just want to make the character look as cool as she is.”

Spider-Woman isn’t the only spider-person Miles is set to meet in the new film. Chris Miller has confirmed yet again that Oscar Isaac‘s Miguel O’Hara, who appeared in a post-credit scene in the original film and seems to butt heads with Miles in the trailer, will not be the villain of the movie, but just “sort of an antagonist to Miles because they both think that what they’re doing is the right thing”. Rather, as already confirmed by the film’s synopsis, The Spot will be the movie’s main villain. Here’s what Phil Lord had to say about him:

I like the villains best when they reflect the journeys of the hero — sort of a dark mirror of the protagonist, and I think Spot’s no different. He wants to be seen as legitimate. He’s a character that has a silly costume and is not always seen as the top tier of Spider-Man foes, but like all of us, he wants to be taken seriously.

    Phil Lord

With The Spot on board as the villain for both this film and the sequel, he’ll certainly have his chance to make an impact on Spider-Man.
