  • Adam Wingard to Direct ‘Godzilla vs Kong’ Sequel, Production Underway

Adam Wingard to Direct ‘Godzilla vs Kong’ Sequel, Production Underway

We’ve long wondered what exactly the sequel for Godzilla vs. Kong would look like. Adam Wingard is back to direct and we finally have an update on what to expect from the latest entry in the Monsterverse. While it was rumored to be an adaptation of Son of Kong, it looks like it’ll reunite Godzilla and Kong to unite against a new foe.

While there are many options to choose from the Monsterverse’s potential new threats, it only teases that it’ll challenge the two Titans in new ways while further exploring their history on Earth. So, it seems like we’ll once again expand the Monsterverse’s mythology.

That is not all, as they’ve also confirmed that the sequel’s cast will consist of Rebecca Hall, Bryan Tyree Henry and Kylee Hottle, who will reprise their roles. They will be joined by Dan Stevens, Fala Chan, Alex Ferns and Rachel House. Unfortunately, it seems Millie Bobby Brown won’t reprise her role in the sequel.

The sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong is slated to hit theaters on March 15th, 2024.

  • Jeffrey Dean Morgan Joins ‘The Boys’ Season 4

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Joins ‘The Boys’ Season 4

WithThe Walking Dead coming to an end, Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan has found his latest project.

It’s no secret that The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has wanted Jeffrey Dean Morgan to join the show. While schedule conflicts seemingly kept him from joining last season, they finally were able to finalize a deal as The Hollywood Reporter confirms he’ll be part of The Boys‘ upcoming fourth season.

Exact details are not known about his role but he does seem like another Supe in the making from Vought Enterprises. He’s no stranger to the superhero world as he famously played The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen and even took on the role of Thomas Wayne in Snyder’s Batman v Superman.

The interesting aspect about his casting is how big his role might be. The Walking Dead star has a new spinoff on the horizon. Perhaps this will tie him over until he starts work on that project. Whatever his schedule looks like, he’s definitely an exciting addition.

The first three seasons of The Boys are now streaming on Prime Video.

  • Steve Blackman Boards Netflix’s Adaptation of ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’

Steve Blackman Boards Netflix’s Adaptation of ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’

Following the news that Netflix has renewed The Umbrella Academy for a fourth and final season, Deadline has revealed Steve Blackman has boarded the streamer’s adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn. The news comes as the showrunner has re-upped his big, eight-figure overall deal with the streaming service.

Under the deal, Blackman will write and produce various series for Netflix through his newly launched Irish Cowboy production banner. Two projects that will be developed through this deal will be the ISS drama Orbital, and Horizon Zero Dawn, the adaptation of the popular PlayStation game of the same name. News that Netflix was looking to adapt Zero Dawn was first announced in May, at the time it was believed the project was still very much in early development. With Blackman now involved, that looks like it’ll change within the coming months.

Expressing excitement over both projects, Blackman noted both series are “hallmarks” of what Irish Cowboy Productions looks for in projects. “Horizon Zero Dawn and Orbital are elevated, event-level projects grounded in characters that fans will love and relate to, which are hallmarks of Irish Cowboy productions. We’re thrilled to be working with Netflix and all of our partners on developing these ground-breaking stories.”

Horizon Zero Dawn is based on the popular video game of the same name. It is set a thousand years in the future and follows an outcast named Aloy. The world around her is “strange and beautiful” featuring a mix of primitive lifestyles and high-tech machines. When the high-tech machines, which include Tallnecks, Snapmaws, and Sawtooths, begin to turn into dangerous hunters, Aloy will seek to discover a way to save her world while figuring out the truth of what happened in the past. The series proved to be a best-seller for PlayStation, having sold over 20 million global copies as of last year. The sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, was released earlier this year.

Executive Producers for Horizon Zero Dawn will be Blackman, Michelle Lovretta and Abbey Morris, as well as Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions. They’ll be joined by Jan-Bart van Beek and Ben McCaw of Guerrilla and Roy Lee and Matthew Ball of Vertigo.

While the official renewal wasn’t announced until today, Deadline reports that the season has already “largely been written.”

  • ‘She-Hulk’: Ruffalo Got to Ad Lib a Certain Scene in Episode Two

‘She-Hulk’: Ruffalo Got to Ad Lib a Certain Scene in Episode Two

Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney at Law introduces Tatiana Maslany‘s Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Mark Ruffalo‘s Bruce Banner. Ruffalo, of course, took over the role of Banner with 2012’s The Avengers, taking over the role of Hulk from Edward Norton who’d portrayed the character in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. While Norton did a good job playing the Jade Giant, the actor ended up departing the role citing that he’d experienced what he had wanted to experience with the character. Since then, Ruffalo has tackled the role, appearing in every Avengers film since and even co-starring in Thor: Ragnarok in 2017.

In recent years, Marvel Studios has begun to reintroduce some of the other characters from The Incredible Hulk back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the biggest one being William Hurt‘s Thaddeus Ross who returned for Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow before his unfortunate passing earlier this year. Now, Marvel is looking to (finally) bring Tim Roth‘s Emil Blonsky back as the Abomination after a brief cameo in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The actor is featured prominently in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, so it’s no surprise that his fight with the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk is recounted in the series. However, the show finds a way to poke fun at the re-casting of the Hulk in a pretty smart way.

According to Maslany, the conversation regarding Hulk being a different person was actually an ad lib by Ruffalo. When asked if she was surprised the show got away with a nod to the recasting, the actress revealed Ruffalo was behind the memorable line.

That was a Mark [Ruffalo] ad lib! That’s truly the world of this show. It’s as meta as you can possibly get, and what’s more meta than discussing the fact that the Hulk in [The Incredible Hulk (2008)] was played by a totally different actor? There are so many layers to it.

  • ‘She-Hulk’ Director Reveals Which Episode She is Most Excited for Fans to See

‘She-Hulk’ Director Reveals Which Episode She is Most Excited for Fans to See

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is set to bring the half-hour legal comedy genre to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because of the show’s premise and structure, the storytelling potential is broad. In episodic format, She-Hulk could bring individual cases to the forefront of each episode. Considering the series’ tone, the type of stories that may get told have the ability to be vastly different—and weirder—than previously seen in the MCU.

Trailers for She-Hulk have already given away that some major cameos are yet to come in future episodes, including Benedict Wong’s Wong and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil. Director Kat Coiro, who directed six of the series’ nine episodes recently revealed which episode she is most excited for fans to see. She told The Hollywood Reporter:

I have to say, I am very partial to episode four at the Mystic Castle. Patty Guggenheim, who plays Madisynn, is a comedic genius, and her and Wong playing off each other is one of my favorite elements of the show. I also love Donnie Blaze and that whole setting. [Episode four’s] courtroom scene is just one of my favorites in the whole series, and it was written by a writer named Melissa Hunter.

    Kat Coiro

Fans will have to wait a couple more weeks to judge Episode 4 for themselves, but it certainly appears to be taking the courtroom comedy genre to heart.

  • ‘She-Hulk’ Episode 2 Easter Egg Teases a Major Mutant’s MCU Presence

‘She-Hulk’ Episode 2 Easter Egg Teases a Major Mutant’s MCU Presence

Ever since Marvel Studios regained the rights to the X-Men and all former 20th Century Fox properties, many wondered when we can finally expect them to pop into the MCU. Even during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, there was no real hint at any classic mutant characters making an appearance, even as rumors have spread far throughout Social Media and the Internet. While D23 still has many hoping for some kind of hint, we’ve at least gotten some breadcrumbs through the latest Disney+ series. Ms. Marvel ended its season with the reveal that Kamala Khan is likely a mutant; even adding a nice nostalgic turn to further cement the connection. Yet, now it seems that eagle-eyed fans have noticed a direct reference to Wolverine in the latest She-Hulk episode.

New Rockstars’ Erik Voss has swiftly taken to his Twitter account to share a little detail in the latest episode, as a few articles reference recent events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The “Why there is a giant statue of a man sticking out of the ocean” is clearly a reference to the ending of Eternals; the first actual reference to the Celestial sticking out of the planet. But it’s the one above it that catches everyone’s eyes as it states that a “Man fights with metal claws in a bar brawl.” If there is anyone that you’d expect at a bar brawl it is the one and only Logan, better known as Wolverine. Of course, the metal claws are also a good indicator of his arrival in the MCU.

So, it seems that Wolverine is definitely somewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and perhaps we can expect some hint at his future appearance at some point…or at least that’s what the She-Hulk creative team wants us to think. While it doesn’t seem like we should expect the mutant in 2023, there’s a good chance he could be part of a project that’ll take place in Phase 6 building up to the next two Avengers films. Since Hugh Jackman brought him to life in the 20th Century Fox films, one could consider Wolverine the most famous member of the mutants and easily recognizable to any everyday moviegoer. So, it would make sense to use him as the building block into that world but we’ll have to wait just a bit longer until we know for sure.

  • Lyon Daniels & Noah Cottrell to Star in ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’

Lyon Daniels & Noah Cottrell to Star in ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’

Following the news that Christian Slater joined the cast of The Spiderwick Chronicles for Disney+, Deadline has confirmed the addition of two more cast members. Per the outlet, Lyon Daniels & Noah Cottrell are set to star in the series as twin brothers Jared and Simon. Daniels will play adventurous, clever, and impulsive twin brother, Jared, while Cottrell will play he thoughtful, more rational twin Simon, who is an animal lover.

The Disney+ series is based on the book series of the same name by authors Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. It tells the story of two twin brothers, Jared and Simon. After they move from New York to Michigan, into a run-down ancestral home – The Spiderwick Estate – with their mother and sister, Mallory, Jared and Simon soon find themselves pulled into an alternate and fantastical world. The series consists of eight books in total and was previously adapted into a feature film in 2008 by Paramount Pictures. That adaptation was a misfire and only earned $164 million worldwide despite receiving an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Daniels recently appeared in Netflix’s We Can be Heroes, as well as Amazon’s Patriot. While Cottrell starred in The Gordita Chronicles on HBO Max and played the role of Diego on the Punky Brewster reboot series.

The first two episodes of The Spiderwick Chronicles will be directed by She-Hulk director Kat Coiro. Locke & Key‘s Aron Eli Coleite will serve as the showrunner; he’ll executive produce the series with Coiro, Black and Dierlizzi. Also executive producing the series are Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, and Julie Kane-Ritsch.
