  • Dave Bautista Says “All Things Must End” in ’Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

Dave Bautista Says “All Things Must End” in ’Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

It’s been known for a long time that Marvel’s upcoming sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be the final chapter of the titular team’s story. Writer and director James Gunn has said as much on multiple occasions, confirming the news once again earlier this week. However, this didn’t stop franchise star Dave Bautista from adding his two cents when asked about the threequel in a recent interview with Comic Book.

The former wrestler, who plays the equally fearsome and hilarious Drax the Destroyer in the MCU, began his statement with a joke about his character’s many lost battles. He then went on to voice his admiration for his fellow cast-mates, his friend Gunn, and the experience he’s had working with Marvel. If these comments sound like they’re hinting at Vol. 3 being Bautista’s final superhero outing, it’s probably because they’re meant to.

Its come full circle and I’m looking forward to wrapping it up. And it’s bittersweet. I mean, I’ve been doing ’Guardians’ since 2013 and when this thing comes out it’ll be in 2023. So that’s a ten year journey. You know, all things must end.

    Dave Bautista

There has been a lot of speculation about which Guardians will survive the events of their next adventure. It remains to be seen if Drax ends up with a space funeral of his own, or if he finally gets the victory Bautista has always wanted.

  • Live-Action ‘Halo’ Series Will Premiere March 24 on Paramount+

Live-Action ‘Halo’ Series Will Premiere March 24 on Paramount+

A live-action Halo adaptation has been one of those projects in development hell for years; it had Steven Spielberg and Rupert Wyatt attached at one point; it went from Showtime to Paramount+; the showrunners working on it split up. So it came as a surprise several months ago when they finally unveiled the first poster, confirming that the show was, finally, tangible.

Today is a big day for fans as the trailer for the series will be unveiled during the AFC halftime show. And as a precursor to tonight’s festivities, the released date for the series was unveiled: March 24th.

To see the show premiere so soon almost feels surreal. But March 24 is merely a few weeks away, given how February starts in a few nights’ sleep. Within a span of a few days, we’ll be able to see Halo and Moon Knight. To also see the handful of footage in that preview looks so beautiful is exciting. It looks well shot, it’s got a solid cast, and the scope looks impressive.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Passes $1 Billion in International Markets

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Passes $1 Billion in International Markets

Spider-Man: No Way Home has proven to have quite impressive legs throughout its box office run. While all eyes are on the future entries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that hasn’t stopped Sony from continuing to enjoy the rollout of the film, which has now officially passed $1 billion in international markets. Now, the film stands at an impressive $1.74B worldwide and still has no real competition until the March release of The Batman.

After Scream briefly took over the weekend two weeks ago, Spidey passed it once again and now remains at the top spot from last week. Jon Watts‘ latest film is slowly nearing the $2B total box office without a release in China, which was supposedly signed off but has not been confirmed as of now. Its strongest market in the UK, where it becomes the best superhero title with $120.1M and also stands at a strong sixth spot.

That market is followed by Mexico ($74.4M), Korea ($61.5M), and France ($61.2M) as some of the strongest performers internationally. The film has become the highest-grossing film of its genre throughout 19 territories, which may be a testament to just how much staying power Spider-Man has as a franchise.

  • Vincent D’Onofrio Wants to Return in ‘Spider-Man 4’, But Currently Has No Marvel Studios Contract

Vincent D’Onofrio Wants to Return in ‘Spider-Man 4’, But Currently Has No Marvel Studios Contract

Hawkeye reintroduced Vincent D’Onofrio‘s take on Wilson Fisk into the Marvel Cinematic universe. His return was met with a lot of praise and some uncertainty about what the future might have in store for the character, especially given the open ending of his fate at the hands of Echo. Well, it seems that D’Onofrio currently does not have a contract with Marvel Studios currently, as revealed in an interview with The Sarah O’Connell Program. He states that

I’ve been through this before with Daredevil. It’s all been very clear to them that I really want to play this part, keep playing. You know, I just hope that continues. I just started having fun with it.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

Of course, there is the chance he’s not allowed to give away if he has a contract or not given how the Disney+ series ended. It wouldn’t be too surprising that Kevin Feige and his team want to ensure that the fake-out wasn’t given away so easily, but D’Onofrio is certainly hoping to make a return, especially in the already confirmed Spider-Man 4.

All of them. I mean, it’s obvious that Punisher, Daredevil, and Spider-Man are the ones that my character is tied to in the comic books. But there’s plenty of room for others, I can just only hope that that happens. But I mean, Spider-Man definitely. I think that would be really really fun.

    Vincent D’Onofrio

A return in the fourth entry of Spider-Man would make a lot of sense after No Way Home ended on him returning to his roots. It also would work as a way to still connect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe without other heroes taking over his film. Daredevil may also become a supporting player as they take on Kingpin, whose empire may have truly only started after the events of Hawkeye. Here’s hoping we’ll find out sooner rather than later.

  • New ‘Multiverse of Madness’ Synopsis Teases a Mysterious New Adversary

New ‘Multiverse of Madness’ Synopsis Teases a Mysterious New Adversary

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is right around the corner. With a trailer already released with Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans know some details about the plot of the movie including the introduction to America Chavez, the return of the Scarlet Witch, and a sinister tone accompanying the first trailer.

Ahead of the movie’s launch on May 6, 2022, Marvel has released a new synopsis for the sequel. The synopsis teases “mystical allies, both old and new” and “mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities.” You can read the full synopsis below:

In Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the MCU unlocks the Multiverse and pushes its boundaries further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies both old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to confront a mysterious new adversary.

While the movie is only a few short months away, much of it is still shrouded in secrecy. Several leaks have found their way online in various forms but official information has not shown us very much about the conflict or what settings we should expect outside of our MCU Earth we know and love. Considering we are now hearing that we can expect “mind-bending” realities, it feels like we are definitely in for a visual treat. Sam Raimi’s directing should do wonders for this type of story, but we will have to see in May if it pans out.

  • Grant Gustin Nears Deal for Ninth Season of ‘The Flash’ on the CW

Grant Gustin Nears Deal for Ninth Season of ‘The Flash’ on the CW

The Flash is speeding towards a ninth season.

Leading man Grant Gustin has negotiated a new contract for a ninth season that’ll bring him back for one more season. It appears a multi-year offer was given to Gustin, however, he turned it down in favor of a one-year contract. The new contract sees Gustin’s involvement capped at fifteen episodes, with him earning north of $200,000 an episode. With a new contract in the works, The Flash seems likely to receive a ninth season renewal.

While The CW normally has its renewals and pick-ups set by this time of year, the potential sale of the network is limiting its early renewals to fewer shows this time. The Flash, however, will be one of the few shows to receive a renewal thanks to its strong linear and digital performance. The potential renewal, of course, all hinges on a closed deal with Gustin to return.

The first few episodes of The Flash‘s eighth season pulled in averaged 720,000 total viewers and a 0.2 demo rating from Live+same day numbers. The numbers continued to grow with Live+7 DVR playback, bringing them to a more admirable 1.2 million and a 0.3 in the demo rating.

New episodes of the series resume on March 9th.

  • How ‘The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild’ Came To Be

How ‘The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild’ Came To Be

This week’s The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild is the franchise’s sixth film installment. The film is a testament to the franchise’s lasting success which has now expanded to several mediums such as video games and television. Murphy’s Multiverse got to attend the press junket for the film which included director John C. Donkin and longtime producer Lori Forte.

Lori Forte explained why the team behind the franchise decided to give Buck Wild of all characters the spotlight for this film.

Buck is such a lovable character. We just adored him in the first movie and in Dawn of the Dinosaurs. And we always knew [Simon Pegg] wanted to do something more and so we did. We found another way of bringing him back in Collision Course. But it just felt like he deserved his own movie. He deserves his own spinoff because the character himself, he’s just so iconic. He’s clever, he’s an adventurer, he’s a swashbuckler, he’s a protector and guardian of the lost world. It’s such a great, great character to have. We love to go on adventures with him because he’s just not afraid of anything.

For director John C. Donkin, it made sense to make a new film about the evergreen theme of family.

One of the great themes of this film is the family angle. And we loved the idea of once you’re in a herd, which is our family, it’s a herd. They’re equivalent. Once you’re in a herd and you have that connection, it’s okay if there’s some physical separation between you, because there’s always going to be shared love and support.

The notion was enforced further by Forte, who said the coinciding pandemic helped bolster the film’s very timely themes.

I think we started with the story way before COVID obviously happened. So it’s just a universal message for all time. And because COVID happened, it seems strikingly apparent now, that the message about family and staying together, even if you’re not together, and being together, whether you’re not together. I think that all works, but I think it’s a universal theme for any time.

  • Netflix is Making a Live-Action ‘Masters of the Universe’ Film Starring Kyle Allen

Netflix is Making a Live-Action ‘Masters of the Universe’ Film Starring Kyle Allen

Netflix has acquired a brand new live-action Masters of the Universe film. The past few years have seen Netflix develop multiple shows based on the ’80s line of toys and cartoons with She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Masters of The Universe: Revelations, and He-Man and The Masters of The Universe, making this live-action reboot the fourth one under the company.

Kyle Allen, known for his work in West Side Story, has been chosen to play He-Man in the upcoming film. The project will be directed by the Nee Brothers who co-wrote the script alongside David Callaham, whose recent work includes Wonder Woman 1984 and Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings.

The project was previously in development at Sony with Noah Centineo attached to play He-Man. The executive producer of Mattel Films had this to say about the partnership between Mattel and Netflix.

With our partners at Netflix, we look forward to showing audiences that anything can happen in Eternia. • Justina Machado In Being a Newcomer in ‘The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild’

Justina Machado In Being a Newcomer in ‘The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild’

Justina Machado is the latest addition to the Ice Age family, making her debut in this month’s The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild. Machado plays Zee, a zorilla whose past brings her into Buck Wild’s orbit. She’s a feisty fighter with a skill set unique to her character.

In the press junket for the film, Machado had nothing but nice things to say about being inducted into such an iconic franchise.

I remember seeing the original one with John Leguizamo and Ray Romano. I’ve always loved these movies. It was a little scary also to come into this family and be as exciting as the other characters. But after seeing the movie, I’m really proud of what we did and how it came out but it was fun and exciting and an honor to be a part of this franchise. It was a lot of fun.

Producer Lori Forte explained the importance of Machado to the creative process, saying that the character was developed the more they got to work with Machado in the recording booth.

I think in this case with Zee, because she was a new character, when we started working with Justina, we were finding the character and and she was finding the character too. But the more sessions that went on, the more we got to know Justina, we started taking traits from her, like her strength and her personality and her in-your -face kind of thing. And it sort of wove into the character itself. And so Zee was very much part of who Justina is, I think.

Machado herself iterated on the challenges of voicing Zee as a character and how the development process helped her find her footing.

We developed it together. John, Lori and I developed a whole character together. It’s so hard to play somebody in control and badass. Those are my favorite characters to play and they gave me the liberty to do that. So it was just pure fun because the theme is love and family and chosen family and courage and all of those things.

  • Elizabeth Mitchell Returning as Mrs. Claus for ‘The Santa Clause’ on Disney+

Elizabeth Mitchell Returning as Mrs. Claus for ‘The Santa Clause’ on Disney+

Another familiar face is returning for The Santa Clause limited series on Disney Plus.

News of The Santa Clause receiving a revival series was first announced two weeks ago. While we knew Tim Allen would be returning to reprise his role as Scott Calvin, aka Santa Claus, little else was known regarding the series. Now, it looks like Allen will be joined by Elizabeth Mitchell who returns as Carol, aka Mrs. Claus.

Mitchell first joined the beloved franchise with The Santa Clause 2, which saw Allen’s Scott go in search of a Mrs. Claus in order to remain Santa. She returned alongside Allen for The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause in 2006, where Scott had to learn to keep his family happy, while also battling Martin Short‘s Jack Frost.

The revival series looks to be headed in a new direction with Scott realizing he’s unable to be Santa forever, something he’s struggling with as his birthday approaches. The series will set up a new Santa Claus, while allowing Scott and his family to, hopefully, prepare for a new adventure outside of the North Pole.

Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.

The revival series is being showrun by Last Man Standing creator Jack Burditt. He will executive produce the series along with Allen, Kevin Hench, Richard Baker and Rick Messina. A release date for The Santa Clause has yet to be announced.
