Marvel Rumored to Have Filled Another Villainous ‘Spider-Man Brand New Day ‘ Role with MCU Veteran Actress

UPDATE: Jeff Sneider has since reported that Carrie Coon will NOT have a role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Despite an already heavy roster of baddies for Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man to tangle with in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a new report indicates he’ll have at least one more. According to industry insider Jeff “The In” Sneider, Carrie Coon has joined the cast of the film as yet another villain.

Coon voiced Black Order general Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War and What If…? but, according to her husband, parted ways with Marvel when the studio refused to increase her salary for Avengers: Endgame. Though Sneider did not reveal the identity of Coon‘s character, it’s possible she may be filling the role that actresses Sarah Snook and Nicole Kidman were once believed to be up for rather than returning as a Child of Thanos.

There’s this villain no one knows anything about,” teased Sneider. “I don’t know if it’s true. I have no idea. I haven’t vetted it at all,” befire adding that to date, nobody has filled that role. “I heard a name. What if, Carrie Coon is the villain?” Following that, Sneider claimed that another source gave the rumor some credence.

When Snook was believed to be in talks, theories for the role ranged from the Hydra terrorist Viper to a genderbent Norman Osborn. If it’s the latter, it might also open up the possibility that Sadie Sink, who recently landed in Glasgow to begin filming, could be playing an Osborn as well, introducing native Earth-616 goblins to the MCU.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was recently described as “the biggest Spidey movie yet,” drawing comparisons to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Production on the fourth installment in the Spider-Man franchise is currently underway in Glasgow, Scotland ahead of an expected July 31, 2026 release.

Insider Compares ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ to One of Marvel Studios’ Best Films

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already generated a ton of hype as production has gotten underway in Glasgow, Scotland. With Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink and Michael Mando among those joining Tom Holland in the film, fans are buzzing about the project while also trying to deduce just what might be going on in it. With a handful of street-level villains, a raging Punisher and a rampaging Hulk, it seems as though Peter Parker will find himself in quite a predicament no matter which way he turns, meaning fans can expect quite a bit of action. And according new report from one of the busiest scoopers in the game, the action in Destin Daniel Cretton‘s flick may be on par with one of Marvel Studios’ best films.

Social media scooper My Time To Shine Hello, who seems to be dialed in on what’s happening on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, has compared the film to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the biggest Spidey movie yet,” claimed MTTSH. “Despite being more ‘street-level,’ it’s even been described to me as Captain America: The Winter Soldier for Spider-Man.

While the social media scooper was not clear on exactly how the fourth installment in the Spidey franchise might resemble the 2014 sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, it still lands as incredibly high praise and may raise expectations even further for the film. The Winter Soldier was a game changer both for the MCU and for Chris Evans as Steve Rogers; if Brand New Day delivers the same, status quo-changing dynamic as the spy thriller, fans will be riding a massive wave of energy into Avengers: Doomsday.

Directed by the Russo brothers, the film is a masterclass in action and suspense. The hand-to-hand combat is brutal and visceral, a stark contrast to the more fantastical battles of other MCU films. The Winter Soldier not only redefined Captain America’s character but also reshaped the entire MCU. Its events had massive ripple effects, fundamentally altering the landscape of the cinematic universe and paving the way for future stories like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil WarAvengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. It’s a crucial piece of the puzzle, a thrilling standalone film, and a testament to Marvel’s willingness to take risks with its characters and its storytelling.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’: Michael Mando Doubles Down on Mac Gargan’s Venomous Role

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’: Michael Mando Doubles Down on Mac Gargan’s Venomous Role

Spider-Man: Brand New Day looks set to have plenty of villains looking to tangle Tom Holland‘s Wall-Crawler. Several months ago, a report claimed that Tombstone, Boomerang, Tarantula and Scorpion were set for the new film, as was Mac Gargan, first played by Michael Mando in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

To date, none of those villains have been seen taking on Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man on set, though rumors persist that the tank chase scene filmed during the project’s first week in production did indeed feature Mando’s Gargan. For his part, Mando–whose last MCU appearance was in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming–used social media to tease a monstrous turn for his character and now, ahead of a scheduled action scene that would feature Spidey squaring up with Gargan, Mando has once again teased his character’s transformation into Scorpion and Venom.

Following Mando’s initial tease, we theorized that Gargan could play an incredibly large role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, including bonding with the fragment of the symbiote that Tom Hardy‘s Eddie Brock left behind during his visit to the Sacred Timeline. Mando’s latest IG story not only teases Gargan’s transformation into Venom but does so using a picture that also shows the character in his Scorpion suit, which has yet to be seen in live-action.

Gargan’s role in the film will likely spin out of the end credit scene from Spider-Man: Homecoming, in which he hoped to learn the identity of the Wall-Crawler from Michael Keaton‘s Adrian Toomes while the two were in prison. By the time Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters, it will have been nearly a decade since that scene took place so it’ll be interesting to learn what Gargan has been up to in the meantime.

  • New Rumor May Reveal Chris Evans’ ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Role

New Rumor May Reveal Chris Evans’ ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Role

In June, after filming scenes at Windsor Castle production on Avengers: Doomsday moved to a secluded area in Windsor Great Park where a 1960s-era house was constructed. While the castle scenes were rumored to take place at Magneto’s mutant stronghold, there were never any solid reports on who inhabited the Great Park house. Though on set it was referred to as the “Luke Cage” house, not too many folks believed that Power Man was going to make his MCU debut in the new Avengers film. And so, after a couple of weeks in the spotlight, the “Luke Cage” house was forgotten and nobody was ever too sure what went down there. However, a new rumor may provide that answer and, if true, mean the MCU’s first Avenger will indeed return for Avengers: Doomsday.

    https://twitter.com/UnBoxPHD/status/1939718286570058213?t=tLku4RzfiRkakj6AZu0CBw&s=19
According to social media scooper My Time To Shine Hello, Chris Evans has already filmed scenes for Avengers: Doomsday, doing so under the codename “Luke Cage.” Some simple math offers the possibility that the 1960s-era “Luke Cage” house is the home of Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter.

Assuming the information in MTTSH’s post is accurate, at least some portion of Avengers: Doomsday will likely work as a direct follow-up to the events of Avengers: Endgame which saw Rogers time travel to 1949, creating an alternate timeline in which he lived a full life with Carter before returning to 2023 to give Sam Wilson the shield.

Yeah, maybe. I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience. But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened. And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing. So, no time soon. And ultimately I really hope to just maybe act a little bit less in my life. I have a lot of other interests.

-Cheis Evans on returning to the MCU

Late last year, a new round of rumors indicated that Evanswho in 2023 stated that if he did return as Captain America, it would be “no time soon”–would be joining fellow MCU megastar Robert Downey Jr. in Avengers: Doomsday. In December , Deadline reported that the MCU get had indeed struck a deal to star in the film, though Evans has denied it and Marvel has refused to comment.

While Evans has yet to step back into to MCU as its Rogers since 2019’s, he reprised the role of Johnny Storm for a foul-mouthed appearance in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Beyond that, Evans has been true to his word, having yet to pick up the shield again despite regular rumors to the contrary. Evans was not part of the 5-hour livestream that introduced 27 members of the cast for the 2026 film, though multiple insiders have maintained he would have a role in Avengers: Doomsday.

  • Tom Holland Takes Fans Behind the Scenes of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Tom Holland Takes Fans Behind the Scenes of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Principal photography on Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been underway in Glasgow, Scotland for over a week and fans of the Web-Slinger have had plenty to celebrate. In a nearly unprecedented move for a Marvel production (thanks, Sony), official releases got ahead of set photos, revealing star Tom Holland‘s suit for the fourth installment in the MCU-set Spidey franchise. That was followed by plenty of photos and videos from the set, including an intense chase scene involving a tank, reportedly driven by Frank Castle. Now, as production in the UK continues, Sony has released a video recapping the first several days on set.

While the video doesn’t reveal anything not already seen by the public, it does offer some great new views of Holland in action in the suit and him being a generally great human while interacting with fans. Filming is expected to extend through early Fall and Spider-Man: Brand New Day will swing into theaters on July 31, 2026.

  • ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Writer Shares Ideas for Uncertain Sequel

‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Writer Shares Ideas for Uncertain Sequel

Marvel’s First Family finally joined the MCU in The Fantastic Four: First Steps just in time to help the Avengers and X-Men attempt to save a collapsing Multiverse. While the film hasn’t blown up the box office, Disney head honcho Bob Iger stated that the film, directed by Matt Shakman, “successfully launched this important franchise into the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” ahead of their appearances in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars; however, at this point, despite rumors that Marvel Studios was set to move ahead with a sequel, again directed by Shakman, there has been no official word.

With four unfilled dates on its 2028 theatrical slate, Marvel could be eyeing one of them for a sequel to First Steps but if they are, they haven’t told anyone yet, including the writer of the first film, Eric Pearson. In an interview with Comic Book, Pearson, who has worked on several MCU films, including Thunderbolts*, explained that while he has some great ideas for a sequel, there’s a really good reason he hasn’t begun work on one just yet.

I honestly don’t know. I’m such a literal person that I would need to understand the fallout of how everything looks and who knows who out of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars,” he explained. “I don’t know where we are all sitting. Sometimes, when everything is on the table, you don’t know what to eat.” With Avengers: Doomsday deep into its production and still with an unfinished script, Pearson‘s point is very to the point.

Would it be cool to see them in a murder mystery together? Sure. Would it be cool to see them in a time-travelling romp? Sure, that would be cool. There are all these different things, but you don’t want to completely upset the apple cart,” he explained of trying to make plans for the First Family without knowing what will happen to them in two Avengers films over the next two years. “I feel like anything I’d have to say really doesn’t matter until we see how all our favorite characters survive the upcoming adventures with Victor von Doom.” With Avengers: Secret Wars primed to rest the MCU into what Kevin Feige called a “single timeline,” here’s to hoping The Fantastic Four and Doctor Doom both find their ways onto it for many more adventures.

  • ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Rumored to Retcon a Major Season 1 Appearance

‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Rumored to Retcon a Major Season 1 Appearance

Season 1 of Peacemaker ended with an idea so crazy, James Gunn didn’t think he’d get away with it. John Cena‘s Christopher Smith mocked the Justice League often in the first season of the streaming series, including accusing Jason Momoa‘s Aquaman of fucking fish, so when the heroes showed up following the sesson finale’s big battle, it was a fantastic surprise for fans and it gave hope that DCEU would expand…but we know how that turned out.

With an all-new, all-different DCU already on the way before the Justice League cameo, fans wondered how Gunn would work the now defunct heroes into the “new canon.” The short answer is that he didn’t, even though the rest of the first season of Peacemaker will remain integral to the new continuity. Gunn explained that the integration of Season 1 of Peacemaker into the DC would be “pretty straightforward, with the exception of the appearance by a certain group at the end,” though he never explained how it was that Smith and the audience would forget what they had seen. Now, a new rumor clarifies that dilemma.

According to prolific social media scooper My Time To Shine Hello, the Justice League cameo is retconned before Season 2 of Peacemaker actually begins in earnest.

The first episode of Peacemaker Season 2 opens with ‘Previously in the DCU,’ claimed MTTSH. “It’s mostly all season 1 footage, but there are a couple of changes. Danielle Brooks’ character now talks about calling in the Justice Gang, and they reshot the Justice League cameo from the finale,” potentially revealing Gunn’s plan to follow up on the success of Superman by including the metahuman heroes who worked alongside Kal-El to defeat Lex Luthor…oh, plus one major addition.

Instead of Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and The Flash, the intro will reveal Smith meeting with the Justice Gang AND Milly Alcock’s Supergirl. “Now, it’s Mister Terrific, Superman, [Guy Gardner], Hawkgirl, and Supergirl (all but [Green Lantern] and Hawkgirl are in shadow),” claimed MTTSH, revealing that the Maiden of Might will likely join the team at some point…when she’s not hammered.

With under two weeks until the streaming premiere of Peacemaker Season 2 on. August 21st, it’s very possible that MTTSH has delivered solid intel as screening packages for the series have likely been sent out to select members of the media.

  • ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set Report Indicates Another Classic Spidey Foe Is Set to Appear

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set Report Indicates Another Classic Spidey Foe Is Set to Appear

Based on rumors and reports, Peter Parker looks to have his hands full in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In addition to villains Scorpion, Tombstone, Tarantula, Boomerang and Ramrod, he’ll also cross paths with Frank Castle and a rampaging Hulk! That’s certainly enough to keep any friendly neighborhood Spider-Man busy but it sounds as though another classic Spidey foe may join the fray.

According to a set report from Glasgow World editor Paul Trainer, hidden in the “massive set piece” featured in multiple set photos and videos shared online last week was “a mock-up of the top half of the tank” Spider-Man was seen chasing. Though it was not seen in set leaks nor photographed by Trainer, the writer claims the mock-up tank has a prop attached to the front of it that “was the shape of a rhino’s head.”

Though this is the first mention of the villain, who has battled with Spidey in the pages of Marvel Comics since 1966, an appearance by the chuckleheaded Russian thug does actually make at least some sense. Michael Mando recently teased that his Mac Gargan may be suiting up in a comic-accurate Scorpion suit in the film which could support the idea that someone is working behind the scenes to power up otherwise some of Spidey’s street-level foes.

A recent report by insider Daniel Richtman stated that the main villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has yet to be revealed. While it certainly will not be Rhino, perhaps it will be a hidden benefactor with a grudge against the Spider…

  • Sadie Sink’s ‘Spider-Man:  Brand New Day’ Role Has Launched an Insider Info War

Sadie Sink’s ‘Spider-Man:  Brand New Day’ Role Has Launched an Insider Info War

In December 2024, longtime industry insider Jeff “The In” Sneider passed on word from a source that Stranger Things and The Whale star Sadie Sink had emerged as the front runner to portray Jean Grey in the MCU. Given that Marvel Studios X-Men film still hadn’t landed a director (Thunderbolts* helmer Jake Schreier has since locked down the job), Sneider’s sources believe that the studio was keen on casting the role of Jean Grey at the time to allow the character to appear in either or both of its next two Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

In March, Sink was indeed cast in a major MCU role, joining Spider-Man: Brand New Day as Tom Holland‘s co-star, the the identity of her character was not revealed. Since then, Sneider and his podcast co-host John Rocha have heard that Sink could be playing a Mary Jane Watson Variant, the daughter of Toby Maguire‘s Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst‘s MJ, Mayday Parker, and an “alternate universe Gwen Stacy.” Now, just as fellow insider Kristian Harloff corroborated Sneider ‘s Stacy scoop by reporting that he had been given a “pretty good guarantee” that Sink is set to play Gwen Stacy in the 2026 flick, Sneider has changed course again!

During his latest podcast, Sneider shared that he’s “still hearing Jean Grey” when asking his sources about Sink’s role.

The amount of conflicting insider information around Sink’s role is incredible, especially considering the fluctuating nature of the tea coming from Sneider ‘s sources. However, given what’s known about the film, Grey may actually make sense within the plot, though how the young mutant’s origin would be handled or if the studio would want to include another major Marvel character when The Punisher and Hulk are already set for pivotal parts in the film are both questions worth considering.

For now, it seems all fans can do is speculate and debate as Sink has yet be caught on camera on the Glasgow, Scotland sets. Should she indeed be Grey, she may not have a large part in the action until after Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner turns “savage.” The two have faced off in the pages of Marvel Comics with Grey using her incredible telepathic and telekinetic abilities to get the upper hand over the Hulk.

  • Turning Point! New ‘Brand New Day’ Rumor Could Set up a Haunting Turn for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man

Turning Point! New ‘Brand New Day’ Rumor Could Set up a Haunting Turn for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man

The MCU’s Peter Parker has not had it easy. After being orphaned as a young boy, Parker has lost his the aunt and uncle who raised him and Tony Stark, who mentored him into the world of superheroes. Most recently, in an effort to save the Multiverse, Parker convinced Stephen Strange to cast the runes of Kof-Kol, twisting the spell to ensure he was forgotten by everyone he had ever known, stripping him of his relationships with Ned and MJ. Alone, Parker began rebuilding his life with a renewed commitment to fighting crime as a friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man.

The next installment in the Spidey franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, looks set to honor the path Parker set out upon at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, keeping the hero close to the streets of New York rather than traveling to space or fighting for the fate of the Multiverse. Reports have him set to face off with street-level villains Tombstone, Tarantula, Boomerang and Scorpion whole also dealing with a vengeful Frank Castle and a rampaging Bruce Banner. Nobody said street-level meant it would be easy and Parker Luck dictates it could never be any other way. Now, a new rumor claims that another new character is set to join the complex concoction of Parker’s life and it’s one that could have a devastating impact on his journey.

YouTube host Kristian Harloff has reported that he has been given a “pretty good guarantee” that Sadie Sinkwho joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in March–is set to play Gwen Stacy in the 2026 flick, helmed by Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton.

I know we all think that we’re immortal…but what makes life valuable is that it doesn’t last forever.  What makes it precious is that it ends… Make [your life] count for something; fight for what matters to you, no matter what. … It’s easy to feel hopeful on a beautiful day like today.  But there will be dark days ahead of us, too.  There will be days where you feel all alone.  And that’s when hope is needed most.  No matter how buried it gets, or how lost you feel, you must promise me that you will hold on to hope.  Keep it alive.  We have to be greater than what we suffer.  My wish for you is to become hope.  People need that.  And even if we fail, what better way is there to live?

-Gwen Stacy’s graduation speech from The Amazing Spider-Man 2

There have been plenty of rumors about who Sink might be playing in the film; however, should she indeed be playing Gwen, it could set up another haunting turn for Holland‘s Parker. Having met Andrew Garfield‘s Peter 3 and hearing his story in Spider-Man: No Way Home, meeting Gwen Stacy in his reality should certainly set off Peter 1’s Peter Tingle.

Though the character only made 80 appearances in the comics before her death in Gerry Conway‘s two-part “The Night Gwen Stacy” died, Peter’s role in her death (the impulse from his webs snapped her spine as it stopped her fall so abruptly) tormented the hero for years. As seen in No Way Home, Garfield’s Peter 3 was similarly impacted by his Gwen’s death, growing into an angry and not-so-friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

I lost… I lost Gwen. My, uh… She was my MJ. I couldn’t save her. I’m never gonna be able to forgive myself for that. But I carried on. Tried to, uh… tried to keep going, tried to keep being the… that friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, because I know that’s what she would have wanted. But… at some point, I just… I stopped pulling my punches. I got rageful. I got bitter. I just don’t want you, to end up like… like me.

    -Peter 3

Assuming Sink is playing Stacy, the audience would feel a strong sense of dramatic irony and suspense over the course of Spider-Man: Brand New Day which then opens the doors to Cretton throwing a twist in the mix. Given that Sony co-produces the MCU-set Spider-Man films, they may have their own plans for Gwen Stacy and the character could be revealed to be a multiversal Ghost Spider Variant, allowing her to star in her own franchise. And then again, she may not be Gwen or any of the other characters she’s been rumored to be and all these words were wasted…
