‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ May Retroactively Revive ‘WandaVision’ Fan Theories

WandaVision may have been one of the most theorized projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only was it Marvel Studios’ first venture into Disney+ and long-form storytelling, but its bizarre premise left many wondering what exactly are they building up to. While we now know that we’re definitely in the Multiverse Saga, the introduction of Evan Peters as a fake Quicksilver in the MCU left some fans a bit frustrated; ignoring the reactions to the meta Bohner joke for long-time sitcom fans. Yet, the recent development on the first spinoff series, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, could be the spark to revive some old theories once again.

Keep in mind, we still know very little about what exactly the Kathryn Hahn-led Disney+ show has planned, but some of its castings are quite promising. The original title of the series was House of Harkness and hinted at further exploring her family tree. Yet, the project was suddenly renamed to Coven of Chaos, which opens up the possibility of jumping deeper into the supernatural world that Agatha Harkness resides. We assumed that the show might move away from Westview, the setting of WandaVision, but more and more castings hint that the place may remain important.

The recent announcement that Debra Jo Rupp, who is currently set to appear in the Netflix revival series That 90’s Show, will join the cast of the spinoff. In WandaVision, she played Ms. Hart, someone who was trapped as part of Wanda’s hex over Westview. Yet, her return opens up a lot of questions on why exactly she’d have a role again. She could appear in the story as a minor background character but why spend more time in Westview? Or, could she have a role in a different part of the story after all?

One of the most popular theories early on was that Emma Caulfield‘s Dottie was a witch just like Agatha. We knew that she was going to turn out to be the antagonist of the show, which led to us theorizing there must be more going on. Yet, Dottie never was connected with any story and simply ended up as a victim. The actress was one of the first returning actresses cast for the project. With Debra Jo Rupp‘s return as well, it almost feels like Agatha may have had a contingency plan after all.

When we last saw her, Wanda hexed her into a role that she was playing throughout the Disney+ series. Yet, she won’t likely be able to break free from her reality-altering powers so easily. Theoretically, she might be freed the moment Wanda is taken out during the event of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, or she has some help. It would be fun to find out in retrospect that Caufield and Rupp’s characters were part of the ruse this entire time. It not only adds depth to the events but also retroactively confirms many theories.

We still have no news if Evan Peters might also return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ralph Bohner, but there’s a lot of potentials to explore his character more. He was rumored to be the person that Randall Park‘s Agent Woo references in the film being part of a witness protection program. Perhaps he was her Plan B and the reason that she stayed at his house, or he may even be further connected to the multiverse than we at first assumed. With new Mephisto rumors also circulating online, who knows just how many theories from WandaVision may make a return, or could even finally be confirmed once Agatha: Coven of Chaos releases on Disney+.

  • ‘WandaVision’ Actress Kathryn Hahn Plays Coy on ‘Agatha Harkness’ Spinoff

‘WandaVision’ Actress Kathryn Hahn Plays Coy on ‘Agatha Harkness’ Spinoff

Earlier this month, it was revealed that actress Kathryn Hahn would reprise her role as Agatha Harkness from WandaVision. However, Marvel Studios not only put an Agatha series into development from WandaVision head scribe Jac Schaeffer, but it also confirmed the actress would return for other Marvel Studios films and series.

Hahn, of course, stole the show as Agatha in WandaVision, with many fans questioning if and when the actress would return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If fans are to believe Hahn regarding Agatha’s return, though, nothing looks to be set in stone. Marvel Studios, on the other hand, clearly has plans for her.

While the spinoff is in development, Hahn is opting to play coy regarding her involvement. While walking the carpet for The Shrink Next Door, Hahn was quick to sidestep any questions regarding the project. “I don’t even know if there is such a thing as a WandaVision spinoff, Honey,” she says to the interviewer. “I have to be honest… All I can say is I love Agatha, and as we know, anything can happen with Marvel. So, who knows?”

All episodes of WandaVision are currently streaming on Disney+.

As it stands, the planned Agatha Harkness series is still in development with no release date planned.

  • Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness Likely to Appear in More Films and Series

Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness Likely to Appear in More Films and Series

Earlier today news broke that an Agatha Harkness spinoff series starring WandaVision’s Kathryn Hahn is in development as Marvel Studios. Hahn’s performance as Harkness in the Emmy-winning series received massive fan praise and critical acclaim. Her turn as Harkness even earned her an Emmy nomination in the process.

While spin-offs of any kind are quite common to see after extremely successful and popular original works, they often end there. However, it was reported that Hahn’s series deal is, in fact, part of a larger deal with Marvel Studios. The deal not only encompasses Hahn’s Harkness appearing in more Disney+ projects, it also sets the character up to appear in future films.

The broad deal means Agatha Harkness may be around the Marvel Cinematic Universe for some time. After all, the character has significant history not only Wanda Maximoff, but also the Fantastic Four. The Fantastic Four, of course, are gearing up to make their MCU debut in Phase Four. The versatility of a large Marvel deal might allow her to make appearances in several projects that touch on stories vastly different from WandaVision. In any event, it certainly means Agatha Harkness will probably be around to add the mystical side of the MCU in the near future.

  • BREAKING: Agatha Harkness Series in Development at Marvel Studios

BREAKING: Agatha Harkness Series in Development at Marvel Studios

According to Variety, Marvel Studios is developing a Kathryn Hahn-led Agatha Harkness series for Disney Plus. Hahn starred alongside Elizabeth Olsen and and Paul Bettany in Marvel Studios first streaming series, WandaVision, and did so to rave reviews.

According to the trade report, the series will be written by WandaVision head scribe Jac Schaeffer, who signed a big deal with the studio earlier this year. Hahn’s character, Agnes, was revealed late in WandaVision’s season to be Agatha Harkness, an old witch who has thrived by stealing power from other witches. When we last saw her, she seemed to have her memory wiped by Wanda but there was definitely a promise of more stories to come.

Hahn received and Emmy nomination for her role in the series and the character has a loooooooong history in Marvel Comics, so it’s not at all surprising to see the studios continue working with the actress to further develop the character. Schaeffer, who will also serve as an executive producer on the series, could chose to explore the character’s rich history, expanding the mythology of witchcraft in the MCU and connect her character to the growing mystical/horror element in the MCU. Marvel Studios is known to have over a dozen projects in development at this point in time and now we know we can count this Agatha-centric series among them!

  • Theory Thursday: Welcome to New Salem

Theory Thursday: Welcome to New Salem

It’s been known that comics usually take inspiration for their stories from our world and the times that we live in. And Marvel Comics is no exception. After all, Stan Lee himself once said; “Marvel is the world outside of our window”. During the week, I started to look around for any sort of clues that Marvel Studios could tell us about WandaVision and the town that it’s going to be set in, which is WestView. Now, while looking around, I noticed something really interesting in Google Maps. There are multiple WestViews across the United States, but the one in particular that caught my attention was WestView, Indiana. The reason why it caught my attention was that in Indiana, WestView is “an unincorporated community in SALEM Township…” And then my brain clicked.

For my US History nerds (and for those forced to read The Crucible in High School), we know that Salem (in Massachusets) was infamous for the Witch Trials they held in 1692. Many “witches” were persecuted, tried, and executed as part of those trials. And Marvel Comics acknowledges Salem as well in the comics, but where real-world history ended, Marvel Comics continued to write the story their own way. After their persecution, many witches sought refuge near Colorado and founded their own community known as “New Salem”. Now, in order to keep themselves safe, they isolated themselves from the rest of humanity and made their community only accessible to those who possess magical abilities. Now, why is New Salem so important to Marvel Comics and possibly to WandaVision? Well, it’s the home and residence of one of the most powerful witches in Marvel Comics, Agatha Harkness.

Theory: ‘New Salem’ might be an important location in WandaVision.

Going back to the Google Maps research I did, whenever I looked up Salem across the US, nearly every Salem location was associated with WestView. WestView Drive, WestView Ave., WestView Manor, the community of WestView, etc. While I am hesitant to say that WestView is specifically a “dummy” location and that WestView is actually the community of New Salem, I am certain that we might see the community of New Salem appear at some point during the show. Most of Agatha Harkness’ story in the comics is set around the community of New Salem and the strain she possesses with the members of that community, who have branded her a traitor for leaving them and deciding to interact with the commoners, mainly the Fantastic Four. Wanda and Vision also play very pivotal parts in the comics after Agatha Harkness’ spirit contacted them to come to New Salem during the 2nd series of comics for The Vision and the Scarlet Witch”.

In this particular comic above, Wanda and Vision faced off against Vertigo and the “Salem Seven” after Agatha Harkness contacted them to come to New Salem. At one point, Vertigo absorbed the power of all of the residents of New Salem and lost control, killing the residents of New Salem in the process. But Wanda actually tried to contain and redirect the power after Agatha Harkness had taught her how to channel magic or “hex”. Eventually, Agatha’s astral form in that comic had told Wanda not just to channel that power, but to actually use it and she actually succeeded in using her power to redirect it to the mountain and destroying New Salem. If we were to see this portion of the comic play out in WandaVision, it would actually be a nice callback to Captain America: Civil War (2016) when Wanda couldn’t contain and redirect her power properly causing the explosion in Lagos and the death of dozens of innocents which brought about the events of that film.

WandaVisionIS CURRENTLY SCHEDULED TO PREMIERE AT SOME POINT THIS YEAR On Disney Plus.
