‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Star Confirms Rumors about the Film’s Curious Creative Process

The production of Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be as chaotic and unpredictable as the multiverse itself. In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Fantastic Four star Ebon Moss-Bachrach dropped some fascinating details about the secretive writing process behind the Russo Brothers’ return and hinted at what to expect from Ben Grimm’s time on screen in the upcoming film.

According to Moss-Bachrach, the sheer scope of the fifth installment in the Avengers franchise made the process of filming his portion feel disjointed, especially in comparison to the smaller scale Fantastic Four film.

Doomsday was different in that it’s a bigger movie with more moving parts, and I think it was more compartmentalized, whereas Fantastic Four: First Steps, we were there like every every day, every day, having a sense of the thing,” said Moss-Bachrach.

These movies are so interstellar and so galactic and conceptual. So, it’s very hard sometimes to understand what’s going on in the story. And Doomsday was a little bit harder for me to hold all the parts,” he continued. “And, I mean, I knew where I was, I knew which planets, which universe I was in. But how it was connecting to other universes, I would have to go back to, like, ‘Joe [Russo] can you just, I know you’ve talked me through, can you just tell me one more time?‘”

When asked by Horowitz if he’d worked from a completed script, Moss-Bachrach ultimately revealed that at least his portion of the process wrapped without him being aware of the film’s ending.

Yeah, I did read a full script, but those scripts change quite a bit,” he said before changing course. “You know what? Probably not, it probably didn’t have a full, like, third act. I don’t think it had an ending. I don’t think anyone gets to see that stuff.”

While one of the four teasers released for Doomsday teased Thing’s interactions with Earth-616’s Wakandans and Talokanil, Moss-Bachrach also seemingly revealed that the Thing will be sharing some scenes not only with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom but also some powerful mutant heroes, marking the first time members of the Fantastic Four and X-Men have shared the screen.

What a wonderful man. Like, what a great set leader he was. He’s been doing this for a long time and he was so generous and really, like, checking in, making sure everyone was good. Really good coach energy there… I would look around the room and it’d be like, ‘There’s Ian McKellan, and there’s Channing Tatum,’ it’s a lot.”

  • Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler Returns in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’…Along with Some Secret Characters

Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler Returns in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’…Along with Some Secret Characters

Alan Cumming is back in Avengers: Doomsday as Nightcrawler and he’s been quite forthcoming about his past and present experiences as the mutant teleporter. While fans are ecstatic to see the blue teleporter return, Cumming’s comments have pulled back the curtain on the “trauma” of the early 2000s X-Men era and the massive, secretive scale of the new Avengers epic.

In his latest chat with Deadline, Cumming revealed that the Doomsday script is a maze of misdirection. To prevent leaks, several returning characters were given “secret names” in the script. “It was so confusing,” Cumming admitted. “Sometimes there were secret names because they didn’t want to reveal a certain character was returning.

Cumming described the film’s ensemble as “superhero soup,” noting that there are so many characters he “just can’t keep up” with the roster.

In a classic “oops” moment, Cumming recently spoiled that his stunt training involved a fight sequence where he’s “hitting Pedro Pascal against the head.” This confirms a direct confrontation between the OG Fox X-Men and the Fantastic Four.

Despite the massive cast, Cumming revealed he filmed much of his part in “isolation” against green screens, acting in a “featureless void” to accommodate his schedule for The Traitors. However, Leaks and teaser art suggest Nightcrawler will finally sport his classic red-and-black circus-style suit from the comics, a major departure from the tactical leather of the 2003 film.

  • SDCC ’26: Marvel Studios to Assemble the Avengers in Hall H This July

SDCC ’26: Marvel Studios to Assemble the Avengers in Hall H This July

According to a report from The Wrap, Marvel Studios has officially locked in its return to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.

After a calculated absence from the major presentation circuit during the height of the 2025 production shifts, Kevin Feige is heading back to the convention floor with one primary mission: the global unveiling of Avengers: Doomsday.

While a teaser trailer for the December 18th release is rumored to be coming “soon”, it seems highly likely that the cast of the film will be on the big stage in Hall H to roll out a trailer and launch the tidal wave of hype for the first Avengers film since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

In addition to a big Doomsday blowout, it’s possible the studio will confirm some of the cast for Avengers: Secret Wars, though they’ll have to pick and choose–as they did with the Doomsday cast reveal–to avoid spoilers. However, with filming on Secret Wars expected to kick off in June, it’s possible fans may already be privy to the identity of many of the cast members, even if the studio isn’t ready to announce them.

  • New ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Footage Said to Add Critical Link to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

New ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Footage Said to Add Critical Link to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

When Avengers: Endgame hits theaters again this fall, it won’t be the same film fans saw in 2019. According to director Joe Russo, fans will be getting an all-new, all-different version of the film which will include footage set within the narrative of Avengers: Doomsday.

It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame,” explained Joe Russo.

It’s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way, and because the movie was so successful, we have an opportunity to re-release it. You don’t always get the chance to re-release because it costs money, so the fact that we can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much, and continue their story: It’s a really unique opportunity.”

As Russo explained further, he described the Avengers: Endgame re-release as a “critical companion story” and a “setup for what you’re gonna watch in December when you see Avengers Doomsday.

With Chris Evans back in a central role, one can imagine that at least some of the new footage would address Steve Rogers journey through time and which, if any, Avengers, might have known about it.

Avengers: Endgame will be back in theaters on September 25th and Avengers: Doomsday will follow on December 18th.

  • New Rumor Claims Internal Hype for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Is Sky High

New Rumor Claims Internal Hype for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Is Sky High

If you were worried that the pivot from Kang to Doom was a sign of a studio in disarray, it’s time to take a deep breath. According to a massive update from MyTimeToShineHello—dropping just as the film enters its critical reshoot phase—Marvel Studios recently held a private internal screening of the “pre-reshoot” cut of Avengers: Doomsday.

According to the leak, Kevin Feige and his inner circle were “very pleased,” with some reportedly calling it the best Marvel movie yet.

Marvel Studios held a private test screening of the pre-reshoots version of Avengers: Doomsday for Kevin Feige and select staff, and they were very pleased with it, some even called it the best Marvel movie yet.

    -MTTSH

Despite concerns that the film was simply going to be nothing more than fan service, it sounds as though Joe and Anthony Russo have successfully translated the high-stakes tension of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame to the Multiverse Saga. If the movie is already being hailed as a masterpiece before the character-focused polish of the reshoots, we might be looking at a generational event. Either way, it’s shire to break the box office if hype is this high this early.

Reports have indicated reshoots in London are specifically targeting “character-driven material.” If the action and the Doctor Doom introduction are already landing this well, adding more emotional depth is just the icing on the cake.

THR reports that the film is already “exploding” on tracking, eight months out. With Disney set to hold it’s CinemaCon panel on Thursday, sounds as though it’s an opportune time for Marvel to demonstrate that they still own the cultural conversation.

  • Robert Downey Jr. May Have Confirmed an Additional Pair of Heroes for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Robert Downey Jr. May Have Confirmed an Additional Pair of Heroes for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Since returning to Marvel Studios to play Doctor Doom, Robert Downey Jr. has often posted Doom-themed holiday images to his personal Instagram account. This Easter weekend, he did so again and fans believe some “hidden Easter eggs” have revealed a pair of characters whose presence in Avengers: Doomsday has, so far, not been confirmed.

The image features Doom holding an Easter basket loaded up with eggs decorated with the symbols of the heroes from across the Multiverse set to face the villain in the upcoming film: Shang-Chi, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Black Panther, Thor, Namor, Ant-Man, Loki and Captain America. However, tucked in the back of the basket behind the other eggs are a pair of eggs with the symbols of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange.

Benedict Cumberbatch was not among the 27 stars revealed as part of the primary cast during last March’s 5-hour Livestream reveal; however, he has often been rumored to be in the film, with Cumberbatch‘s Strange said to have filmed “pivotal, high-security scenes” as Doom’s “wizard sidekick.”

While the Strange logo leaves no room for debate, it might be worth pointing out that the Spider-Man logo more closely resembles the only typically associated with Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man than that seen on the suit worn by Tom Holland‘s Wall-Crawler. And, in fact, it is Maguire‘s Spidey who has often been linked to the project, with claims of a scene filmed with Deadpool and Wolverine having stirred up fans over the past few months.

  • Marvel Reportedly Orders “Character-First” Reshoots for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel Reportedly Orders “Character-First” Reshoots for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

We’ve seen the reports that the Avengers: Doomsday script was being tweaked during production, and it looks like those rewrites have officially triggered a round of additional photography. But don’t panic—this isn’t a The Marvels level overhaul.

Avengers: Doomsday is heading back to London soon for additional photography and according to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the goal is to provide “narrative clarity” and “emotional beats” to the project. Sounds like after having spent some time in post-production, the Russos realize that with an ensemble this massive, the audience needs more time to actually care about the new team dynamics before Doom starts tearing them apart.

Richtman’s report stated that the big set pieces are reportedly locked and that cameras will be capturing “character-driven material” when they roll in the coming weeks. These moments have always been a strength of Anthony and Joe Russo, who have struck gold with unexpected character pairings and groupings in the past such as Thor, Groot and Rocket or Nebula and Tony Stark.

If they’re going back to set to make sure the “heart” of the movie is beating, that’s a win for the fans.

  • James Marsden Takes His Place on Prestigious List of Marvel Studios’ Liars and Deniers

James Marsden Takes His Place on Prestigious List of Marvel Studios’ Liars and Deniers

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, James Marsden spoke openly about reprising his role as Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday. He also admitted to lying about it previously to avoid “Marvel trouble.”

In doing so, Marsden joins elite company such as Charlie Cox, Andrew Garfield and Paul Rudd, all of whom have lied, denied and otherwise dissembled about their association with Marvel Studios projects.

Of course, the big takeaway isn’t just the return—it’s the suit. Marsden confirmed he is finally wearing the Jim Lee-inspired comic-accurate costume, moving away from the black leather era of the early 2000s. Since the suit was first leaked in 2025, fans have been excited to see it on screen and the first glimpse of it in one of the film’s short teasers delivered.

“To put this on felt very cool,” said Marsden, who said he also felt “heroic” and “authentic”, the latter of which fans have been craving and Marvel seems intent on giving them.

  • Marvel’s “Oscars Reunion” Is a Stealth ‘Doomsday’ Marketing Blitz

Marvel’s “Oscars Reunion” Is a Stealth ‘Doomsday’ Marketing Blitz

Don’t let the tuxedos fool you—Sunday night at the Oscars is the first unofficial press stop for Avengers: Doomsday.

The Academy has confirmed a Marvel reunion for the March 15 Oscars. Pedro Pascal, Gwyneth Paltrow (will she know if she was in a movie with any of these folks?), Lewis Pullman, Channing Tatum and, most importantly, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans are all presenting together.

As cool as it might be, this isn’t just a tribute; it’s a soft-launch for the full-scale marketing of Avengers: Doomsday. With Evans and RDJ on stage together for the first time in years, Marvel has an opportunity to lean into the Steve vs. Doom hype that they simply cannot pass up.

Rumors are swirling that we might get a surprise drop during the ceremony—specifically, the first footage of Doom and Cap face-to-face. Even if we don’t get a trailer, the optics of  Doom standing next to Steve Rogers is the most powerful marketing image Marvel could ask for. By putting RDJ and Evans center stage, they’re reminding the world that the heart of the MCU is back.

  • Mask On? John Campea Claims RDJ’s Face Won’t Be Seen in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Mask On? John Campea Claims RDJ’s Face Won’t Be Seen in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

The discourse around Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom just took another turn. Recently, the consensus among the scooper community has been that while Victor Von Doom would keep his mask on when in front of the 616 heroes, the audience would get that meta moment of seeing RDJ’s face—likely to hammer home the tragedy of a man who looks exactly like the hero we lost in Avengers: Endgame.

However, John Campea is now throwing a monkey into that wrench. On a recent episode of his show, Campea stated that he has confirmed Marvel is keeping the mask firmly in place for the duration of Avengers::Doomsday, saving the face reveal  for the grand finale in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars.

One of the rumors about Doomsday that we did confirm for people is that they do not reveal Robert Downey Jr.’s face as Doctor Doom… they don’t reveal Tony Stark’s face or Robert Downey Jr.’s face in Doomsday, and that the repercussions of that and the reasons for that and all that kind of stuff is something they’re saving for Secret Wars.

    -John Campea

To mask or not to mask, that is the question but it’s hardly a new debate. But with Robert Downey Jr. in the role, it seems hard to believe that Marvel invested that kind of money just for a voice-over performance and a stunt double in a green cape.

If Campea is right, Marvel is making a bold, narrative-driven choice. By withholding the face, they’re forcing the audience to treat Victor as a separate entity from Tony Stark. It builds tension so  when that mask finally comes off in Secret Wars, it’s a tactical emotional nuke designed to break the heroes, perhaps mirroring the division in Captain America: Civil War.

This contradicts several other reports that suggested the audience see a scarred version of the 616-Stark-lookalike early on. If Campea’s info holds water, it means the brothers Russos are leaning into the horror of Doom, which does match up with  Film Threat’s Chris Gore’s claim that Doom’s face will be disfigured and, in his opinion, looks to be inspired by the look of creatures from “classic Universal Monster movies.

If they’re saving the face for Avengers: Secret Wars, they’re betting everything on a singular moment of shock to carry the entire Multiverse Saga finale.
