Leaked ‘Furiosa’ Set Photos Offer First Look at Chris Hemsworth

While the Mad Max franchise will finally continue, its titular hero will have to take a backseat for Furiosa. After her introduction in Mad Max: Fury Road, the popularity of the character skyrocketed, a prequel was fasttracked. While many are disappointed that Charlize Theron is not returning in the role, now set to be played by Anya Taylor-Jo, the cast has been quite promising with Tom Burke, Angus Sampson, and even Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth.

Now, a few set photos have found their way online offering our first look at Hemsworth‘s design in the upcoming film. While it’s unclear who exactly he is playing, there seems to be some Max inspiration in his design, such as having a leg brace.

His design is quite curious. While he still remains super in shape, his physique is quite a bit different from what we saw in Thor: Love and Thunder. Though it seems he couldn’t quite give away who he might be playing or what role he has, the project will span a long period of time which makes it difficult to say if he has a major role throughout or maybe just a brief part in its highlights.

Furiosa is the first prequel in this franchise that was on the stand until director George Miller revived it with Fury Road. It became an instant classic for many and it was surprising that there hasn’t been an actual sequel for a while. Perhaps Furiosa might once again add some fuel to the franchise’s fire that we’ll further explore the apocalypse.

  • Chris Hemsworth Shares First Set Photo from ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Prequel ‘Furiosa’ as Production Starts

Chris Hemsworth Shares First Set Photo from ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Prequel ‘Furiosa’ as Production Starts

It looks like the long-awaited prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road is finally in production. George Miller once again takes a seat as its director, as he further explores the early days of Charlize Theron‘s Furiosa. Not much is yet known about how they’ll tackle her story, but we do know that Anya Taylor-Joy will take over the iconic role and is joined by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Chris Hemsworth. The latter has now taken to his Instagram account to share that production has started on the film with a first look from the set.

Sadly the photo doesn’t reveal much from the actuals et, but it does confirm two things. The logo is all about Furiosa and offers a great design to make it stand out from the Mad Max one. Yet, production logos generally go through many changes and it wouldn’t be too surprising that it looks drastically different the moment it gets advertised. That’s not all, as we also get the confirmation that they are shooting it on 35 mm film, which highlights Miller‘s love for the medium.

While Theron has considered the recasting as “heartbreaking” as they replaced her with a younger actress, there’s a lot we don’t know about what the approach is for this series. Here’s hoping that perhaps we get an appearance of Theron as the character she made famous to tie the past with the future. With George Miller at the helm, it would be more than just a simple legacy piece.

  • New ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ BTS Book Offers Insight Into Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy’s Ongoing Feud

New ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ BTS Book Offers Insight Into Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy’s Ongoing Feud

Vanity Fair has shared a look into Kyle Buchanan‘s new book Blood, Sweat & Chrome, which explores the troubled production behind Mad Max: Fury Road. There’s a lot we don’t find out about until many years later when people start discussing the ins and outs of working with different talent and the troubles they face. The new book on Fury Road revealed that there was an ongoing war between Charlize Theron, who played Furiosa, and Tom Hardy, who took on the role of the titular Max. We’ve long wondered what may have happened to a potential sequel, but it looks like working on the film wasn’t a lot of fun for everyone involved.

In the interviews, it seems that there was quite a bit of tension between the two. Hardy gets described as “very provocative” that didn’t mix well with Theron‘s general approach. The animosity already was there during pre-production which carried over into the actual shooting of the film, where it even hit a boiling point even if they believe it may have added to the overall experience that fit the film’s core narrative. As director George Miller pointed out:

The story is all about self-preservation: If it’s an advantage to you to kill another character, then you should do it and you don’t think twice about it. I think that crept into the actors.

    George Miller

The excerpt of the book includes one specific storyline when Theron arrived on set in time and was ready to shoot, but Hardy was nowhere to be seen. She arrived on set and got into the War Rig waiting for him. She was so annoyed by his behavior, she actually spent around three hours, sitting in the vehicle with make-up and in full costume before he took his time to show up on set. That day, it seems it led to a full confrontation as she cussed him out for his behavior. She even highlighted that she didn’t “feel safe” on set.

It’s very fascinating to learn just how different these two actors were and how this project ended up forcing both into a situation where their worlds seemingly collided. While the film has become a cult classic, it might not be easy to look at it the same way as before knowing just how much animosity was hiding behind the scenes. Yet, as Miller pointed it, it may have ironically added a bizarre heightened reality to the experience.

  • ‘Mad Max: Furiosa’ Eyeing Chris Hemsworth as Male Lead

‘Mad Max: Furiosa’ Eyeing Chris Hemsworth as Male Lead

Mad Max: Fury Road came out five years ago. George Miller returned to the franchise he started back in 1979. After spending a few decades with children-friendly films like Babe or Happy Feet. His return gave us an amazing R-rated look at the sandy apocalypse and introduced us to an iconic badass, Furiosa. Miller then started becoming vocal about wanting to explore her backstory. That was a surprise, as we thought they would continue the story after Max left Charlize Theron‘s Furiosa at the end of Fury Road. Still, a sequel sounds interesting as it also gives us a chance to find out more about her first meeting with Immortan Joe.

Casting is already underway for the film, as Illuminerdi got their hands on the following character description:

    [DEMENTUS]
    Lead Male (30 – 40)
He is breathtakingly handsome. An angel’s face, scarred by a
deep forehead wound stitched together with shiny chrome
    staples.

Warner Bros. is currently interested in hiring Chris Hemsworth in the lead role. The description is quite interesting. The mentioning of a deep scar across the forehead is rather interesting. There probably is some kind of backstory they will explore where he got that wound. It will be interesting to see if this character even survives, as there isn’t anyone that would fit his description in Fury Road. No matter what direction they go, I cannot wait to see what they’ll do with this story. Hopefully, they will bring back the amazing visuals that made the last film stand out. I cannot wait to return to the wasteland once again.
