Russo Brothers Share ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Countdown One Year From Film’s Release

It’s been quite a week for Marvel Studios. Ahead of the theatrical release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the Steve Rogers-centric Avengers: Doomsday teaser meant to debut with that film leaked online, stirring up an absurd amount of angst. That leak was followed by audio from the second, Thor-centric trailer hitting the web along with a recording of the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which really had fans buzzing despite the poor quality of the video. However, even as its vaunted security measures seem to be falling apart, nothing official ha come from the studio, until now.

As of today, the theatrical release of Avengers Doomsday is exactly one year away and, to celebrate that, The Russo brothers posted an official countdown clock to their Instagram account.

Reminiscent of the countdown that unfolded on the covers of Jonathan Hickman‘s Avengers and New Avengers titles in the months leading up to 2015’s Secret Wars, the clock briefly changes to read “DOOMSDAY” at one point.

Doctor Doom has officially arrived in the MCU. This villain, a master of cutting-edge science and powerful magic, will unleash a cascading crisis across the entire multiverse.

-First official synopsis for Avengers: Doomsday

With Avengers: Doomsday believed to be largely inspired by Jonathan Hickman‘s work on Avengers and New Avengers titles, it’s possible that the Fox X-Men’s Earth, Earth-10005, could serve as a stand-in for Earth-1610 (the original Ultimate universe) which went to war with Earth-616 during the final incursion before Secret Wars. In September, James Marsden, who will reprise his role as Cyclops, teased that “worlds are ready to collide.” With Monica Rambeau still stranded on what’s believed to be Earth-10005, it’s easy to begin to imagine how things might unfold with Doom pulling the strings.

  • ‘Supergirl’ Trailer Description Teases Intergalactic Action

DC Studios held a “launch event” in New York City to unveil the first teaser trailer for Supergirl ahead of its release sometime this week. The film’s star, Milly Alcock, was joined by director Craig Gillespie and studio co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran.

As expected from such an event, a description of the teaser quickly made its way online and while it sounds as though the new film will have comedic beats, it also seems to be very much a “road trip” film in which Kara Zor-El will come to terms with her past traumas.

The description below comes via social media scooper My Time To Shine Hello. The teaser will be released online this week, though no date has been confirmed by DC Studios at this time.

The trailer opens with Krypto peeing on a newspaper with Superman on the cover.

Kara wakes up hungover, and we then see her boarding a space bus.

She’s shown celebrating her 23rd birthday alone at a bar, really emphasizing her isolation.

The trailer then moves into a montage of her and Ruthye traveling across the galaxy to different locations.

Krem appears briefly in a shot. Lobo is shown walking down a hallway.

The trailer ends with Kara in full costume, fighting enemies aboard a massive space battleship.

  • Rumored Synopsis for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Teases Another Deep Dive into Legends Lore

Rumored Synopsis for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Teases Another Deep Dive into Legends Lore

Star Wars fans were thoroughly underwhelmed by the first teaser for The Mandalorian and Grogu; however, to be fair, Star Wars fans are thoroughly underwhelmed by anything Star Wars-related. The pulpy teaser gave almost nothing away, showing only glimpses of new characters and a few solid looking action sequences but it was also accompanied by a first synopsis which teased the idea of Din Djarin and Grogu tracking down the Shadow Council in the film.

The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.

-Official synopsis for The Mandalorian and Grogu

The Shadow Council made its first canonical appearance in Chuck Wendig‘s 2017 novel Aftermath: Life Debt where, led by Admiral Gallius Rax, they planned to overthrow the New Republic. The machinations of the Shadow Council, which consisted of Rax, Rae Sloane, Brendol Hux, Ferric Obdur, Grand Moff Rand and Hodnar Borrum, were thought to be thwarted with their defeat at the Battle of Jokku, however, as seen in Chapter 23 of The Mandalorian, it has been reformed and included Moff Gideon.

    The Shadow Council

Gideon has since been incinerated and the council has scattered but with Grand Admiral Thrawn making his way back from Peridea, they will still pose a major threat to the galaxy. Interestingly, a rumored new synopsis, discovered on a German Blu-ray site, explains that Din Djarin and Grogu will be hunting down the Imperial remnants, leading them to an powerful ancient artifact.

The Empire has been defeated and the remnants of its force scattered to the far corners of the galaxy. Yet some of the former commanders of this dark era cling to their power and have become dangerous warlords. Din Djarin together with his apprentice Grogu track down and neutralize these cells. Several clues lead them to Khar’Zuun where they not only manage to infiltrate an almost forgotten imperial facility but Grogu also discovers an ancient artifact that functions as an amplifier of his abilities.

-Rumored synopsis for The Mandalorian and Grogu

While there’s been no confirmation of the recently found synopsis being official, the idea that Grogu discovers an “ancient artifact that functions as an amplifier of his abilities” is incredibly interesting and does remain consistent with the type of Legends lore that Jon Favreau has consistently mined in crafting The Mandalorian. From Dark Troopers to lightsaber-proof Beskar, Favreau has incorporated concepts from what was previously known as the expanded universe into the streaming series and, if he’s doing it yet again, there are plenty of options for what the artifact discovered by Grogu might be, including holocrons, the Great Crystal of Aantonaii or something else entirely. Whatever the case, it’s likely Favreau will use The Mandalorian and Grogu to once again dive deep into Legends lore.

  • Talented Trio Tops Reported Shortlist to Tackle Techno-Organic Terror in ‘Man of Tomorrow’

Talented Trio Tops Reported Shortlist to Tackle Techno-Organic Terror in ‘Man of Tomorrow’

After months of speculation and teasing, confirmation finally came down the pipe that the sadistic supervillain Brainiac would indeed make his theatrical debut in the Superman not-really-but-also-kind-of-sequel Man of Tomorrow.

The Coluan Collector of Worlds will serve as the “bigger threat” that catalyzes the team up between David Corenswet‘s Kal-El and Nicholas Hoult‘s Lex Luthor, which director James Gunn has described as a “complicated” scenario.

With principal photography on Man of Tomorrow set to get underway in April, casting for the film has begun, including the search for an actress to play a character believed to be Wonder Woman and an actor willing to disappear behind prosthetics to bring Brainiac to life. In mid-November, Dracula star Claes Bang reportedly read for the role and now, a follow-up report claims that a pair of actors have joined Bang on the shortlist to land the role of Brainiac.

According to Nexus Point News, Doctor Who star Matt Smith and Academy Award-Winning actor Sam Rockwell have joined Bang on the shortlist to play the supervillain.

The report makes it clear that no offers have been made at this point and that ultimately, a cash-conscious approach by parent studio Warner Bros. may constrain Gunn‘s casting reach.

Man of Tomorrow will hit theaters on July 9, 2027.

  • Captain America’s Team of Avengers OFFICIALLY Revealed in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Promo and It Includes One Shocking Surprise

Captain America’s Team of Avengers OFFICIALLY Revealed in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Promo and It Includes One Shocking Surprise

With the first teaser trailer for Avengers: Doomsday set to release this month, Disney has just revealed the composition of one of the film’s core teams. As part of a larger Disney showcase held in Italy, Sam Wilson’s team of Avengers has been revealed…and it includes a very unexpected member.

As seen in the video below–which also features the Fantastic Four, New Avengers and X-Men, Sam’s Avengers will include Thor, Ant-Man, Shang-Chi, Falcon and the God of Stories, Loki.

Interestingly enough, a variant of Loki recently went by the moniker of Avenger Prime in Marvel Comics Avengers Forever and Avengers Assemble events.

The current iteration of Loki in the MCU has MUCH in common with Avenger Prime Loki and indeed fans have theorized that the character, last seen at the Citadel at tht End of Time in the Loki Season 2 finale, might take on such a role in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

With the teaser set to drop soon, we’ll see just how much Marvel Studios is willing to let out of the bag!

  • Mayday, Mayday: Mystery Surrounding Sadie Sink’s Role Takes a New Twist as Star Joins ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

Months after being cast in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sadie Sink‘s role is still the subject of speculation among fans and insiders. Reports and rumors have pegged the Stranger Things star as Jean Grey, Mayday Parker, Gwen Stacey and even the shape-shifting insectoid deity Shathra. Even after appearing on set in the UK, Sink’s role remains a mystery and how it’s taken a new twist.

According to Deadline’s Baz Bamigboye, Sink has joined the cast of “the next Avengers picture.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to open on July 31. There has been much speculation about the role Sink has in the Spidey film, and frankly, I do not know the answer, but I do know that she’ll join the cast of the next Avengers picture that shoots here in London later in 2026.

    -Baz Bamigboye

Though Bamigboye’s wording obfuscates the message to some extent, it would seem as though he’s referring to Avengers: Secret Wars which is, of course, NOT the “next Avengers picture,” but will shoot “later in 2026.” Of course, with the Russos preparing to shoot additional photography on Avengers: Doomsday early next year, it is possible Sink will appear in that film instead–or in both!

The news certainly calls into question the nature of Sink’s role and would seem to launch Jean Grey and Mayday Parker back to the top of the list. The latter becomes especially interesting with the recent report of Tobey Maguire returning to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday. Whatever the case, while surprising, it’s not shocking that the studio has cast an actress of Sink’s caliber and demand in something more than a one-off.

  • Additional ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Casting Info Intensifies Wonder Woman Buzz

Additional ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Casting Info Intensifies Wonder Woman Buzz

On the heels of a report that DC Studios was searching for a character believed to be Wonder Woman for a key role in Man of Tomorrow, a second report has surfaced containing additional details about the role.

Following the initial report by insider Daniel Richtman, Nexus Point News has come through with some new information that certainly makes the new character sound like Wonder Woman. Take a quick look at a breakdown of the key points:

    • Late 20s
    • Has “an edge to her”
    • Height requirement/taller actresses
    • Strong physique
    • Character is a warrior

As NPN pointed out, though the description does lend itself to Diana, there are indeed other tall, female warriors that could be pulled from the deep DC Comics roster. However, with a Wonder Woman film on the way, having the character appear in Man of Tomorrow does seems relatively sensible.

  • New Casting Information for ‘Man of Tomorrow’ May Point to Another of DC’s Trinity Joining the Battle Against Brainiac

New Casting Information for ‘Man of Tomorrow’ May Point to Another of DC’s Trinity Joining the Battle Against Brainiac

After months of speculation that the sadistic supervillain Brainiac would finally make his big screen debut in DC Studios Man of Tomorrow, a trade report confirmed the Coluan Collector of Worlds would indeed serve as the catalyst bringing Superman and Lex Luthor together. With Hawkgirl confirmed to return and other heroes such as Supergirl and John Stewart also believed to be joining the fray, plenty of Superfriends will be on hand to assist in the battle against Brainiac. However, new casting information has fans believing another hero might be set to appear as well and if speculation is correct, it’s one of DC’s heaviest hitters.

…a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat.

-James Gunn on Man of Tomorrow
Following a report from insider Daniel Richtman that DC Studios is searching for an actress in her 20s for a major role in Man of Tomorrow, speculation is growing that Wonder Woman will make her DCU debut in the film.

It’s important to note that Richtman’s report doesn’t provide anywhere near enough information to determine that the female character will be Wonder Woman. However, with DC Studios co-chair James Gunn recently saying that the character was crucial to the success of the fledgling shared universe and that a script for a new Wonder Woman project by Ana Nogueria was in the works, it’s not the worst guess.

With principal photography on Man of Tomorrow set to kick off in April, casting is certainly underway, so if the character is indeed Wonder Woman, expect trades to get on the case soon and try to figure out what actresses are in the mix for the role.

  • New Report Confirms Sadistic ‘Superman’ Sequel Supervillain; Rumored Front-runner Emerges

New Report Confirms Sadistic ‘Superman’ Sequel Supervillain; Rumored Front-runner Emerges

Following the successful launch of Superman, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav teased “an ambitious, 10-year plan of interconnected sequels and spinoffs,” which included the “next movie in the Super-Family,” set to be directed by James Gunn. Gunn then spent the next few weeks teasing the next installment in his Superman Saga which was ultimately revealed to be a Superman and Lex Luthor team-up film titled Man of Tomorrow.

In between Zaslav’s tease and the announcement of Man of Tomorrow, fans discovered an unused storyboard from Superman in the behind-the-scenes featurette, Adventures in the  Making of Superman, which they believed revealed the villain of the 2027 Superman sequel. The storyboard features Superman, Supergirl and Krypto flying but a closer look at the bottom corner reveals the head of one of the House of El’s greatest enemies: Brainiac. Gunn further teased the classic Superman villain by releasing a photo of the script for Man of Tomorrow with a brain front and center on the cover page, but stopped short of confirming his inclusion. Now, a trade report seems to have taken care of that.

According to The Wrap, Brainiac will indeed be the catalyst that causes Superman and Lex Luthor, complete in his Warsuit, to join forces in Man of Tomorrow.

Gunn previously revealed that the villain “was considered” for Superman and with Supergirl hitting theaters in 2026, it wouldn’t take much to give some background to Brainiac’s fascination with Kryptonions and reveal that he visited Krypton before it was destroyed and shrunk and stole the capital city of Kandor.

In the comics, Brainiac’s primary motivation is generally a cold, unquenchable thirst for absolute knowledge and self-improvement—which involves collecting and destroying civilizations; however, modern writers have created a more sadistic version of the character, will to torture and experiment on his enemies–or even his own clones in the Absolute Universe–and employ psychological tactics that are more calculated cruelty than logic.

Following the news, social media scoopers collaborated to indicate that Claes Bang, who played the title role in Netflix’s Dracula, has already rested for the role. However, tests are ongoing and given Gunn’s previous work with DC Studios, will involve multiple rounds of testing, including reading with leads David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult.
