  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Overtakes ‘Infinity War’ for Second Highest Opening, Swings Past $600M Worldwide

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Overtakes ‘Infinity War’ for Second Highest Opening, Swings Past $600M Worldwide

Just yesterday, we discussed that Spider-Man: No Way Home just barely scratched the $600M milestone at the box office. The film became the third-highest opening for the US, but it turns out the final numbers had a little more to say. Normally, you don’t see strong shifts from Sunday into the Monday finalized numbers, but the film#s $252M jumped to $260M. As such, it has passed Avengers: Infinity War‘s $257.7M to take the second spot after all. Internationally, the film now stands at $340.8M – still missing China mind you – but remains at the third spot for its international opening.

Its Sunday numbers now stand at $64.175M domestically, which keeps it at the third spot ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Black Panther. The interesting number is that 83% of colleges are closed today according to Comscore, which means that it might have an incredibly strong Monday showing. Plus, the holidays are around the corner which will add another layer to its box office run. It’s now the biggest December release of all time and has set a new benchmark for what the future has in store in 2022.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Harris Dickinson and Gemma Arterton Describe ‘The King’s Man’ As An ‘Anti-War’ Film

EXCLUSIVE: Harris Dickinson and Gemma Arterton Describe ‘The King’s Man’ As An ‘Anti-War’ Film

The Kingsman movies have never slouched when it comes to their action choreography. Director Matthew Vaughn is known for his energetic sequences, and his new franchise prequel is no exception. The difference this time around is that some of those sequences take place in an actual historical war.

We recently had a chance to sit down with The King’s Man stars Harris Dickinson and Gemma Arterton. During the interview, I was able to ask if this setting impacted the theme of the movie. When I brought up the phrase “anti-war,” breakout lead Dickinson responded surprisingly. For Dickinson, his character is keen to show there are other ways to solve issues rather than going to war.

Yeah, no, I think that’s an astute point. I think that’s what’s so interesting about Ralph’s character…The point he’s trying to prove essentially is that there’s better ways to solve conflicts. Whether that’s directly linked to the point in question of war or whether it’s all conflicts in general. We’ve had a terrible history of wars and the human cost of it has been devastating. So, yeah.

    Harris Dickinson

Arterton gave her own thoughts soon after Dickinson. For her, she feels Vaughn is commenting on the opposition of using violence to prevent violence.

Yeah, I think you’re right. I think it is a message that Matthew wanted to convey, and I think he believes that very strongly. This Kingsman agency, having been created so that, y’know – the inevitability is that there will always be conflict. There will always be people disagreeing, and potentially wars breaking out. So, Kingsman being created to kind of protect and try to prevent that from happening. I guess it’s sort of a peaceful organization that uses, like, guns and violence and knives and stuff to stop these things from happening. So yeah…it’s the message of the film.

    Gemma Arterton

As The King’s Man readies to hit theaters, a third Kingsman film is finally confirmed to be in the works with production kicking off in Sept. 2022. Vaughn, who confirmed the news, returns as the director. As it stands, no further details are currently available.

The King’s Man hits theaters on December 22nd.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Almost Featured Morgan Stark

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Almost Featured Morgan Stark

Spider-Man: No Way Home is filled to the brim with characters from across the multiverse. The story is a love letter to Spider-Man and his cinematic history, as well as pushing Tom Holland‘s character forward in new and interesting ways. Who knows how many scenes ended up on the cutting room floor due to just how much they already had to balance from the get-go. Well, it seems we found out about one, as Avengers: Endgame‘s Lexi Rabe, who famously played Tony’s daughter Morgan Stark, revealed she was cut from the film.

It’s a curious surprise, as it makes you wonder what role she may have had specifically in the story. Of course, it’s still too early to discuss what was in the film, but there are a few moments where we may have had a brief moment of her appearing. The Stark connection does exist, as Tony did end up deciding to change the world to bring Peter back, who he probably saw as a surrogate son. We’ll see whatever storyline that could’ve been set up with her appearance might get revisited, as it is uncertain what future the character has in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is Sony’s Biggest Opening Weekend Ever With $587M Worldwide

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ is Sony’s Biggest Opening Weekend Ever With $587M Worldwide

the news just broke that Spider-Man: No Way Home has taken the spot of third-highest opening weekend in the domestic box office. Well, the international numbers are just in and it has continued that very trend worldwide. The film is just shy of a $600M opening with $587M. It’s now only the sixth film to open past the $500M mark and has instantly taken the sixth spot of biggest openers of the year. Keep in mind, what makes this an impressive accomplishment lies in the fact it is without a Chinese release.

There are still hints it’ll open in the Middle Kingdom at some point, but the fact it’s already the biggest opening of the year and very likely to pass $1 billion internationally. It managed $253M domestically, which is great if you consider that no film since before the pandemic could scatch the $100M surface. It has managed to take in $334M worldwide as we enter the end of MCU Spider-Man’s trilogy that reintroduces some familiar faces of the character’s cinematic past.

At this rate, even if it faces a 70% drop, there’s a good chance that the film will pass $1 billion around its third week. There’s no defined release date in China, but if it does manage to release in the coming weeks, there’s a good chance the film might near around $1.5 billion potentially, but anything near $2 billion seems a bit unlikely. There is a chance that the stories surrounding the Omnicom variant may also shift its development, but its performance is certainly impressive.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings its Way to Third-Highest Opening Weekend of All Time

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings its Way to Third-Highest Opening Weekend of All Time

It’s been a turbulent weekend, as people flocked to theaters to witness the film that is Spider-Man: No Way Home. Everyone wanted to see if the rumors were all true and it led to the best opening since the pandemic, as the film has now premiered to $253M across 4,336 theaters in the US. As such, it now has broken many of its earliest expectations at the domestic box office. It beats out Sony’s other Spider-Man spinoff, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, that took the top opening just shy of $100M by a mile and offers some motivation about the box office’s full recovery. Tom Rothman had the following to say on the film’s success:

This weekend’s historic Spider-Man: No Way Home results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve. All of us at Sony Pictures, are deeply grateful to the fabulous talent, both in front of and behind the camera, that produced such a landmark film. Thanks to their brilliant work, this Christmas everyone can enjoy the big screen gift of 2021’s mightiest Super Hero —your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

    Tom Rothman

The numbers are impressive as they even compete with pre-pandemic releases, as the film is now the eighth to pass the $200M mark in the local box office and has nabbed the third-highest opening weekend of all time. It even doubled Homecoming‘s $117M opening weekend, which saw a slight dip with Far From Home‘s $92M. As it stands, the film has beat out Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s $220M, Jurassic World‘s $208M, as well as fellow Marvel Studios projects Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther. It’s an impressive accomplishment and it’ll be interesting to see how word-of-mouth might push the film moving forward.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Rhys Ifans Discusses “Larger Than Life” Portrayal of Rasputin

EXCLUSIVE: Rhys Ifans Discusses “Larger Than Life” Portrayal of Rasputin

Every movie has that stand-out character you keep thinking about after the film is over. If the marketing for The King’s Man is any indication, it may be Rhys Ifans‘ Rasputin that takes the cake there.

During a recent interview with the Welsh actor to promote The King’s Man, I was able to ask about his unrecognizable portrayal of the famed Russian mystic. After I mentioned the actor typically played more subdued characters, he seemingly agreed. For Ifans, everything he’s done before is “subdued” when coming those roles to the likes of Rasputin. As he puts it, there’s a certain “Matthew Vaughn-ness” to the character.

I think everything is subdued compared to what I do in this. What was required of me in this movie – I think Rasputin has to be, in this manifestation, in this movie…a weather system. When he arrives, he can’t be ‘Rasputin’ he has to be ‘RASPUTIN’. It has to have that Matthew Vaughn-ness.

    Rhys Ifans

Ifans continued, discussing the actual Rasputin’s influence on his performance:

Although, the real Rasputin was very much larger than life. He was referred to as the ‘Mad Monk’. He was impossible to kill. He had a huge physical presence. It was great fun to play. Characters like that lend themselves well to franchises like this where you can bend the rules and magnify moments in time. I had so much fun working on it…It’s as extreme as it gets.

    Rhys Ifans

Grigori Rasputin is a renowned historical figure, best known for being a wildly influential holy man in his native country. In the film, he’s one of the many villains going up against Ralph Fiennes and his fellow heroes.

The King’s Man opens nationwide in theaters on Dec. 22nd.

  • Robert Pattinson’s ‘Good Time’ Performance Landed Him ‘The Batman’

Robert Pattinson’s ‘Good Time’ Performance Landed Him ‘The Batman’

The Batman will feature the debut of Robert Pattinson as the iconic Dark Knight. Fans are dying to see his performance as the character, as his take looks to be drastically different than anything we’ve seen before. The actor has grown tremendously as an actor since his Twilight days with films like The Lighthouse, Tenet, High Life, The King, and Good Time.

Director Matt Reeves recently sat down with Empire Magazine for the 2022 film preview where he dove into what inspired him for this take on Bruce Wayne. the director also shared how Pattinson‘s performance in Benny and Josh Safdie’s Good Time landed him the role of Batman.

In that movie you could really feel his vulnerability and desperation, but you could also feel his power.I thought that was a great mix. He’s also got that Kurt Cobain thing, where he looks like a rock star, but you also feel like he could be a recluse.

    Matt Reeves

Reeves casting in the film is something that’s garnered a lot of attention. And his source of inspiration is certainly something that might offer people some insight into what he will bring to the table. Pattinson‘s performance in Good Time is definitely one fan anticipating the upcoming release of The Batman should check, amongst his other projects and roles.

The Batman is currently set to release in theaters on March 4th, 2022 with Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrel, Andy Serkis, Barry Keoghan, Jayme Lawson, Peter Sarsgaard, and John Turturro starring alongside Pattinson.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings in with Historic $240M-$250M Opening

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swings in with Historic $240M-$250M Opening

Spider-Man: No Way Home is swinging into a historic opening weekend.

The numbers are beginning to come in, and as it stands, No Way Home is eyeing an opening weekend between $240-$250 million domestically. This would make it the first film to surpass $100 million in its opening weekend since pre-pandemic. It’s a huge win for both Sony and Marvel Studios, as the film scored an insane $121.5 million on Friday alone. Should current estimates hold, Spider-Man: No Way Home will secure a record within the top four biggest openings of all time at the domestic box office.

Currently, the biggest domestic openings of all time belong to: Avengers: Endgame ($357 million) and followed by Avengers: Infinity War ($257.6 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million), Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($220 million) and Jurassic World ($208.8 million). With the current estimates, No Way Home could land in third or fourth place when the final numbers are revealed on Monday.

Before No Way Home, the biggest opening for a film stateside was $90 million — for an opening weekend — courtesy of Sony’s Venom: Let There be Carnage. While the pandemic is far from over, these numbers are huge for a box office that has been struggling since the pandemic first started. Accounting for some of its massive box office haul is the $50 million No Way Home earned from Thursday previews. That’s enough to give it the third biggest preview night behind Avengers: Endgame ($60 million) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($57 million).

  • RUMOR: Henry Winkler Will Play Al Pratt in ‘Black Adam’

RUMOR: Henry Winkler Will Play Al Pratt in ‘Black Adam’

Legacy is an important aspect in the DC universe, with many of today’s most prominent characters like The Flash and Green Lantern picking up mantles from previous iterations. The Justice Society of America is where it all started, with many characters being new iterations of previous characters like Hourman, Dr.Mid-Nite, Doctor Fate, Starman, and Atom Smasher. A while back it was reported that the film would indeed feature the original Atom, and a founding member of the JSA, Al Pratt. It seems that was indeed true and we’ve now got a face to put to the name.

It’s being reported that the Fonz himself has joined the cast of The Rock’s highly-anticipated DCEU debut in Black Adam. Henry Winkler will reportedly play Al Pratt, the first Atom and a veteran hero in the DCEU. Pratt was reported to play an uncle-type role to Albert Rothstein, the newest Atom Smasher. In the comics, Albert was the godson of Pratts wife, Mary James. Albert will reportedly don Al’s original Atom suit in the film, as he suits up for the first time as a recruit under Hawkman and Doctor Fate for the newest incarnation of the Justice Society of America.

Noah Centineo will play Albert Rothstein, aka Atom Smasher alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Black Adam, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindel as Cyclone, and Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz in Black Adam. The film is currently set to release in theaters on July 29th, 2022.

  • EXCLUSIVE: Rhys Ifans Reveals Director Matthew Vaughn Invented Rasputin’s Unique Fighting Style

EXCLUSIVE: Rhys Ifans Reveals Director Matthew Vaughn Invented Rasputin’s Unique Fighting Style

Perhaps the most mesmerizing character in The King’s Man is Grigori Rasputin. The real-life historical figure has a fictional counterpart played by Rhys Ifans in Matthew Vaughn‘s prequel to the Kingsman franchise. Like any good installment in the series, The King’s Man features many riotous moments of action. One of these sequences has Rasputin in a prominent role, in which he uses a rather bizarre form of combative dancing to fend off his enemies.

In a recent interview, I was able to ask Ifans about this unique method and how it came about. He revealed the idea originated with the film’s director. It came about as they were looking for a “physical language” to use for the character. Vaughn ended up coming up with the combative dancing one day, and the rest is history.

Matthew [Vaughn] came up with the idea in the middle of the process. We were trying to find a language for Rasputin, a physical language. Y’know, we had one which was kind of a martial art-y thing but there wasn’t anything specific. Of course, it had to be humorous as well. It had to entertain, thoroughly. This is what Matthew does well. He stormed into the stunt room one day and said, ‘I’ve got it! Russian dancing and martial arts.’ And then he stormed out and the stunt team are going, ‘What!?”

    Rhys Ifans

Ifans continued to explain just how difficult it was for production to get the choreography right:

Even these highly trained stunt men couldn’t pull [the moves] off, so we had to get a couple of Georgian dancers in from Georgia. And these guys trained from the age of two to do these moves. It takes an incredible kind of core to cross a room with your [butt] two inches off the floor.

    Rhys Ifans

See the moves for yourself when The King’s Man hits theaters on December 22nd.
