  • Jensen Ackles Campaigned for a Role in ‘The Last of Us’

Jensen Ackles Campaigned for a Role in ‘The Last of Us’

The Last of Us is almost upon us and luckily, it means we’ll finally get to see Pedro Pascal‘s take on the iconic character of Joel. Though, as often is the case, you never know who else might’ve almost had the role to define their take on a popular character. As it turns out, The Boys and Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles was campaigning quite a bit to take on the role of Joel Miller but seemingly never truly got into the running.

I was really pushing hard, but I don’t think I was really in the mix or even had a shot at Pedro Pascal’s role in the Last Of Us. but that was high up on my radar.

    Jensen Ackles

Ackles is a big name but he got a second boost when he finished his work with The Boys‘ latest season. Plus, who knows if he was what they were looking for at the time, as Joel is more an older character that represents the hardship of when time passes by them and they somewhere gave up. Ackles has a lot of energy and likely might’ve not fallen into what they were looking for.

The first trailers were quite promising with the adaptation of the classic Naughty Dog gaming franchise. It would be hard to imagine Ackles in the role, but it’s a shame he didn’t get a chance to tackle a different role in the series. Perhaps they are mapping out multiple seasons and are interested in adding him after all.

  • ‘The Last Of Us’ Voice of Tommy, Jeffrey Pierce, Joins HBO Series as a New Character

‘The Last Of Us’ Voice of Tommy, Jeffrey Pierce, Joins HBO Series as a New Character

HBO’s The Last Of Us recently started production with Pedro Pascal and Gabriel Luna sharing a photo from the set. It seems they weren’t quite done casting yet, as Deadline has revealed Jeffrey Pierce, who voiced Tommy in the original game, joins as a new original character named Perry. He’ll be a rebel in a quarantine zone. As of now, he’s the second actor from the game series to join the adaptation. Unlike Merle Dandridge, he is not reprising the character he voiced, as she is returning as the leader of the Fireflies. The role of Tommy will now be played by Gabriel Luna.

He’s not the only new addition, as Murray Bartlett and Con O’Neill will play survivalists from an unnamed isolated town. Chernobyl‘s Craig Mazin and Naughty Dogs’ Neil Druckmann are spearheading the project that will revisit the story of Joel, as he smuggles a young 14-year-old girl named Ellie through a devastated post-apocalypse. The pilot episode is getting directed by Kantemir Balagov.

It’ll be curious to see if more voice actors return to reprise their roles from the game. We haven’t heard anything on the casting of Bill or Tess. They might even plant seeds from the sequel’s storyline, such as introducing Abby to some capacity. It’s uncertain how much the first season will explore from the original game’s story. Yet, the inclusion of the Fireflies leader would confirm the story ends where the original did. We’ll see if they also change elements from the original to push the HBO series into a unique direction from the series.

  • Nico Parker Joins HBO’s ‘THE LAST OF US’ As Joel’s Daughter Sarah

Nico Parker Joins HBO’s ‘THE LAST OF US’ As Joel’s Daughter Sarah

Get ready to feel emotions, as HBO’s The Last of Us has found it’s Sarah Miller. Nico Parker, who is best known for her starring role in 2019’s live-action Dumbo remake and for being the child of acclaimed actress Thandiwe Newton, has joined the cast of the upcoming video game adaptation as the daughter of Pedro Pascal‘s Joel Miller. Fans of the franchise know that Sarah plays a key role in the events of the post-apocalyptic saga, and the talented Parker seems prepared to bring that role to life. She will star alongside the aforementioned Pascal, as well as Game of Thrones breakout Bella Ramsey and former Ghost Rider, Gabriel Luna. Also part of the cast is Merle Dandridge, who will reprise her role as the leader of a rebel organization called the Fireflies from the original game.

The Last of Us tells the story of Joel and Ellie, who must traverse the country together after a dangerous fungal infection turns half the world into mindless, bloodthirsty creatures. They encounter numerous threats, but the most deadly may be the humans they meet along the way. The series will be adapted to the screen by franchise creator Neil Druckmann and former Chernobyl showrunner Craig Mazin. The pilot will be directed by the capable Kantemir Balagov, with Jasmila Žbanić and Ali Abbas also set to helm episodes. While the show is expected to stay true to the heart of the original story, Druckmann has stated in the past that certain events will play out differently in live-action. While we still don’t know what he means by this, the revelation should make fans at least a little nervous about the fate of their favorite characters.
