  • Fresh ‘Spider-Man 4’ Rumor Explains Tom Holland’s Absence from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Fresh ‘Spider-Man 4’ Rumor Explains Tom Holland’s Absence from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel Studios’ impressive Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal had fans immediately wondering where the majority of the MCU’s biggest stars were. Sure, long-timers Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Sebastian Stan but plenty of questions arose about why Chris Evans, Lizzie Olsen, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland didn’t get their own fancy chairs. It wasn’t long before Marvel Studios calmed some of those concerns by teasing further casting announcements down the road. Even then, concerns arose over how big of a role any of those stars might play in the film with the already loaded cast. As it turns out, despite being consistently rumored to be a big factor in Avengers: Doomsday, one star may not have any role at all.

According to a report from Jeff “The In” Sneider, the omission of Holland from the casting reveal for Avengers: Doomsday was not because the studio planned to announce it at a later date but rather because the Spider-Man star won’t be in the film at all.

Every Marvel Studios’ project finds itself subjected to a near endless onslaught of reports, rumors and straight up bullshit but since Marvel struck a deal with Sony to incorporate Spider-Man into the MCU, the character seems to have a special place in the rumor mill. Since confirming Spider-Man 4 was set to head into production this summer, the status of Holland’s role in Doomsday has seemingly been in chaos. One day, Spidey is a main character; the next, he’s not. And now, he’s not in it at all because, as Sneider shared, Spider-Man 4 will be set synchronously with the events of Avengers: Doomsday. It would seem that Holland’s work on Christopher Nolan‘s Odyssey, in which he plays Telemachus, son of Odysseus, may have ultimately made it too tough to write his character into the script.

Should this indeed be the case, it would seem a near certainty that Holland will be ready to play a key role in Avengers: Secret Wars, closing out the Multiverse Saga and, perhaps, his time as the Web-Slinger. With Kevin Feige recently teasing the addition of Miles Morales to the MCU, it would seem as though the time is near for Holland to unburden himself of the great responsibility that comes with bringing one of Marvel’s most beloved characters to life.

  • Sadie Sink Finally Addresses Her ‘Spider-Man 4’ Role

Sadie Sink Finally Addresses Her ‘Spider-Man 4’ Role

For over a decade now, Marvel Studios actors have participated in one of the most well-recognized and obnoxious traditions in Hollywood: lying about their roles in MCU projects. Established as an art form by Ant-Man franchise star Paul Rudd, the ability to dissemble about something that will ultimately be proven true was mastered by Spider-Man: No Way Home co-star Andrew Garfield who ultimately admitted it had ruined his reputation. It appears, however, that Garfield’s cautionary tale may not have been passed on to Sadie Sink, who was recently revealed to have been cast in the fourth installment of the Spider-Man franchise.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Sink–whose MCU role remains a mystery–refused to acknowledge having met with Marvel…at least over one role in particular.

This is news to me,” said Sink when asked about potentially portraying Jean Grey in the MCU. When the Stranger Things star was pushed a little further about whether she’d ever had a conversation with anyone at Marvel about the character, Sink No, I can’t…no. I have nothing to say about this.” And so while Sink never denied meeting with Marvel about A role, she certainly wasn’t about to entertain any further conversation along those lines.

The rumors are really cool, though,” said Sink, hoping to turn the conversation back toward Grey and, possibly, away from a follow-up question by Horowitz about what role she did have conversations about. “It’s an awesome rumor.

Horowitz made one last effort to try to lure the truth out of Sink, asking if she knew the character of Grey before asking if the actress would be up for the type of long-term commitment landing such a role would entail. “Yeah, I know the character…it’s a great character,” said Sink of Grey, who has been a central figure in both Fox’s original X-Men films and the studio’s more recent efforts. “I think that’s super exciting,” said Sink of the possibility of landing a role that would potentially consume a decade or more of her career…and that was all she had to say about that.

Marvel’s long-standing tradition of holding on to every thread of every secret, no matter how minor, has proven to be frustrating over the years. Recently, it seemed as though they may begin moving toward becoming a little more proactive and lest secretive and that may still be the case; however, for now, at least, Sink can count herself as one of the many actors who have looked the fans in the eye and were less than truthful.

  • Sadie Sink’s MCU Role May Have Been Revealed…And It’s the Worst Possible Option

Sadie Sink’s MCU Role May Have Been Revealed…And It’s the Worst Possible Option

After being rumored for multiple MCU roles for the past couple of years, Stranger Things and The Whale star Sadie Sink finally joined the club, signing on to co-star alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4. The fourth installment in  Marvel and Sony’s collaborative Spidey franchise has been subject to some pretty interesting plot rumors since Kevin Feige first announced it was in development in 2021 but it’s clear that at the moment, nobody seems quite sure what the film will be about. To that end, Sink‘s role in the project was also a pretty tightly kept secret, right up until it wasn’t.

Hollywood insider Jeff “The In” Sneider, who originally reported that Marvel was interested in Sink for the role of Jean Grey in their upcoming X-Men reboot, has now shared that a source informed him that “it sounds likeSink will be playing Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man 4.

Let’s face it, Tiger, Marvel didn’t hit the jackpot here. Sink is a talented young actress and will certainly perform wonderfully in the role; however, given some of the other options on the table, even without knowing the plot of Spider-Man 4, it seems as though Marvel has chosen…poorly.

One of the most consistent rumors about Spider-Man 4 is that given it’s position as a direct follow-up to Avengers: Doomsday, it won’t be set on Earth-616 but rather in Battleworld. First seen in 1984’s Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #1, Battleworld is a heterogenous hodgepodge planet made up of bits of various realities from around the Multiverse. More or less, on Battleworld, just about anything is possible and just about anyone could show up.

Marvel and Sony took considerable heat over the years for casting Zendaya as their franchise’s MJ, Michelle Jones-Watson. Casting Sink as Mary Jane Watson, even as a character from another reality, could be read as the studio giving into the noise from online trolls. It remains to be seen in the residents of Battleworld–should it truly be the setting of Spider-Man 4–are aware of their own pasts; however, if the studio’s next move after wiping everyone’s memory of Peter Parker is to wipe Parker’s memory as well, it will likely only further fire up the fandom, many of whom were looking forward to seeing a street-level, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Spider-Man 4 will begin production later this year and is currently slated to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.

  • 3 Under the Radar Possibilities for Sadie Sink’s Mysterious Role in ‘Spider-Man 4’

3 Under the Radar Possibilities for Sadie Sink’s Mysterious Role in ‘Spider-Man 4’

Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will co-star with MCU vet Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4 in what’s only been described to this point as a large role. Previously rumored to be a front-runner for the role of Omega mutant and original X-Men Jean Grey, the identity of Sink‘s character has generated a lot of conversation online though it remains unknown. With that in mind, we’re jumping into the conversation, adding a few dark horse candidates for the young ginger star’s MCU alter ego.

Given that the new Spider-Man film will follow Avengers: Doomsday, there’s no telling just yet what the project’s setting might be, so ruling out any one particular character on the grounds of a “why would they be there?” argument is nonsensical at this point. In a collapsing Multiverse, all bets are off.

    Firestar

Insider Jeff “The In” Sneider’s late 2024 report that Sink was leading a pack of actresses for the part of Marvel Studios’ Jean Grey seems to still be carrying a lot of weight in the current conversation about Sink’s Spidey 4 role. On one hand, we’ve heard on more than one occasion that the studio wants to introduce its own variants of the mutant heroes into the MCU before the X-Men film hits in (probably) 2027, so Grey makes a lot of sense for Sink; on the other hand, another red headed mutant has a much richer history with the Web-Slinger.

When rights issues blocked the use of Johnny Storm in 1981’s for NBC’s animated Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Firestar was created to be the fire to Bobby Drake’s ice. In 1985, the character was written into the mainstream Marvel Comics continuity where she has been an X-Man, New Warrior and Avenger. As much as folksight want to write the character off as a random Z-lister, remember a whole generation of kids–the generation that includes director Destin Daniel Cretton–grew up believing Firestar was pretty amazing. And, in some ways, it might be easier for a non-major member of the X-Men to be introduced as native to Earth-616 than for Jean Grey to suddenly appear.

    Hope Summers

If one host of the Phoenix is possible, why not another? Raised in the future by Cable, Hope Summers, the Mutant Messiah, is as powerful of an Omega-Level mutant as has ever existed and one of the most important X-Men characters created this century.

Hope was never even close to fully utilized by Fox, only having briefly appeared in Deadpool 2 and Marvel could tap into her role as the mutant savior by throwing her into the mix as the Multiverse (likely) collapses and is then remade. Spidey has long been a mutant ally, so it wouldn’t be out of place for him to work with Hope to solve whatever is going on after the events of Avengers: Doomsday.

    Rachel Summers

Of all the possibilities here, I actually like this one the best. Rachel Summers stands out among potential choices because of her identity as a Multiversal anomaly: across all timelines, there is only one Rachel Summers. Though not Omega-Level like her mother, Jean Grey, Rachel is a powerful telepath who has also demonstrated the ability to control time and travel to other realities.

While it may be a bit of a stretch, it’s important to remember that actions have consequences so when Monica Rambeau found herself stuck in whatever reality she ended up in during the third act of The Marvels, a response is due. With the Multiverse in jeopardy, it’s possible an older Rachel Summers, complete with her Hound skills intact, could be sent to explore things in Monica’s home universe where she meets up with Peter Parker.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Star Sadie Sink Joins ‘Spider-Man 4’

‘Stranger Things’ Star Sadie Sink Joins ‘Spider-Man 4’

For over two years, Sadie Sink has been the subject of multiple rumors suggesting that the Stranger Things star was considered for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In January 2023, Sink was rumored to be eyed for the role of Melissa Gold/Songbird in Marvel Studios Thunderbolts* which hits theaters in just under two months. More recently…and perhaps much more interestingly…Sink had emerged as the frontrunner for original X-Men member Jean Grey as Marvel looks to get their own spin on the team of mutant heroes to the big screen following Avengers: Secret Wars. As it turns out, Marvel has been looking for the right role for Sink and now, according to a trade report, they have found it.

According to Deadline’s Justin Kroll, Sink has joined the cast of Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man 4 and will co-star alongside Tom Holland.

While Kroll’s report doesn’t nail down the identity of Sink’s character, it leans heavily into the Jean Grey talk while not-so-subtly hinting that she might be playing Mary Jane Watson. While it is the Multiverse Saga and anything is possible, having two MJs seems a bit much for Peter. For the older crowd, another option that readily comes to mind is one of Spider-Man’s original amazing friends, Angelica Jones, aka Firestar. Like Grey, Firestar is a redhead, a mutant and an X-Man. However, Firestar was created for early 1980s NBC animated series, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, before making her way into the pages of Marvel Comics.

Spider-Man 4 is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton who is taking the helm of the franchise after original trilogy director Jon Watts departed. Expected to film later this year, the fourth installment in the MCU-set Spidey franchise will hit theaters on July 31, 2026.

  • Latest ‘Spider-Man 4’ Rumor Has Spidey Teaming Up with a Surprising Partner to Take On the Hulk

Latest ‘Spider-Man 4’ Rumor Has Spidey Teaming Up with a Surprising Partner to Take On the Hulk

With Spider-Man 4 scheduled to be in theaters in just over 18 months, the clock is ticking on the project’s production timeline. Though the film’s star, Tom Holland, confirmed plans for cameras to roll this summer, reports continue to come in that Sony and Marvel Studios have yet to finalize a script for the next installment in the Wallcrawler’s MCU-set franchise despite Holland sharing excitement for an early draft.

We have a creative and a pitch and a draft which is excellent. It needs work but the writers are doing a great job and I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were like bouncing around the living room. Like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect, but there [are] a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going. But it’s exciting and I’m really, really excited about it.

-Tom Holland on the Spider-Man 4 script, October 2024

With Destin Daniel Cretton taking the reigns from Jon Watts, who directed the first three Holland-led Spidey films, Spider-Man 4 seemed to be headed in the right direction in the Fall; however, as Holland explained, each MCU film is ultimately–and sometimes unfortunately–part of “a large machine” and has to “benefit the bigger picture”…and that statement could do a long way in explaining the latest rumors about some surprising Spider-Man 4 co-stars.

Obviously, one of the things to like bear in mind with Marvel is that there is, your film is a small cog in a large machine, and that machine has got to keep running, and you need to make sure that you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture.

    -Tom Holland

According to John Roca and his Hot Mic Podcast co-host, Jeff “The In” Sneider, Marvel and Sony have considered–and still may be considering–pitting Holland’s Spidey against Mark Ruffalo‘s Hulk in Spider-Man 4. And if that weren’t enough to have fans fired up about the fourth film, Roca added that he had also heard that Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle would join the fray, teaming with Spider-Man to slow down the Jade Giant! If there’s any truth to the possibility of the Hulk going on a rampage in New York in the next Spidey film, it might well serve as the opening chapter of the studio’s long-rumored World War Hulk event.

Though Sneider didn’t speak to the possible presence of The Punisher in Spider-Man 4, the character did make his first appearance in the pages of Spider-Man comics and has teamed up with Spidey on more than one occasion. It’s also worth noting that Holland and Bernthal have worked together in the past, including on the film Pilgrimage. During production on Pilgrimage, the two actors were both auditioning for their current Marvel roles and, according to Bernthal, the two “were constantly making tapes for Marvel – just acting together.

At this point, with everyone from Mephisto to Knull to Wilson Fisk rumored to be the baddie of Spider-Man 4, there’s simply no reason to take any one of these rumors more seriously than any other. However, with Captain America: Brave New World introducing at least one new Hulk and persistent rumors of Marvel Studios attempting to find a way to bring World War Hulk(s) to the MCU, this one is at least worth keeping an eye on.

  • Details from Scrapped ‘Spider-Man 4’ Script Reveal a Pair of Abandoned Villains

Details from Scrapped ‘Spider-Man 4’ Script Reveal a Pair of Abandoned Villains

Like Spider-Man: No Way Home before it, Spider-Man 4 has become a rumor mill circus. Rumors have truly ranged from the most mundane to the most magnificent and everywhere in between; however, recent rumors suggest that the script is still a work in progress even as the film barrels toward a summer start of production.

Whatever story the film ultimately ends up telling, there will always be interest in what it might have been. And while fans wait to learn whether or not it’s a street-level civil war, features Knull invading the MCU’s Earth-616 or something entirely different, a new report from a trusted insider has revealed that at least one scrapped draft featured two classic Spidey rogues who had already debuted in the MCU…and one of them is a villain fans have been hoping to see more of since 2017.

According to Marvel Studios insider Daniel Richtman, before the most recent round of rewrites, Spider-Man 4 would have seen Tom Holland’s  Wallcrawler take on Shocker and Scorpion, both of whom appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

While Bokeem Woodbine‘s Herman Schultz became “the Shocker” in Homecoming, Michael Mando‘s Mac Gargan seemed prime to become a major thorn in Peter Parker’s side before becoming another bullet point on the list of unfulfilled post-credit promises. Fans have continued to hold out hope that Gargan would return as the Scorpion and will certainly be disappointed to hear he may have been cut from the film.

Spider-Man 4 is currently on track for a July 24, 2026 theatrical release.

  • Andrew Garfield Addresses Peter 3’s MCU Future

Andrew Garfield Addresses Peter 3’s MCU Future

Few people have been celebrated more for lying than Andrew Garfield. Despite an abundance of credible reports that he was reprising his role as The Amazing Spider-Man in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield showed his true talents as an actor by convincing the world that he was not. In doing so, Garfield joined a long and prestigious list of actors who boldly lied about their roles in Marvel Studios projects. By his own admission, he also “ruined his reputation” for telling the truth.

I mean, like the internet is a big place. I think there’s a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks. So you might have been duped, I’m afraid.

-Andrew Garfield on his rumored return in Spider-Man 4

As a result, when the star denied rumors of a return to the role in 2026’s Spider-Man 4, it was met with some serious skepticism.

In Garfield‘s defense, he truly may have no idea whether or not he will return as Peter 3 because, if rumors are to be believed, Sony and Marvel seem to be unsure exactly what type of movie they plan to make. And so, in a recent interview with GQ UK, the actor didn’t hesitate to once again shoot down the idea that he’ll suit up once more in Spider-Man 4…or to understand that nobody will believe him anyway.

I’m gonna disappoint you,” said Garfield when asked about a potential role in the next installment in the MCU-set franchise. “Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.

We all came with our own history and with our own relationship to the character in our own films. I think what really was wonderful, and how it unfolded very early on, was Tobey and I felt very aligned and very clear about what our intentions were for being there. Ultimately, it was to serve Tom as an actor and, as characters, serving Tom’s Peter Parker. I think from that place, everything flowed. It enabled Tobey and me to have a bit more fun maybe than we would’ve had if we were the ones fully carrying the story.

-Andrew Garfield on his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home

While the most recent rumors about the plot of Spider-Man 4 suggest an appearance by the Marvel devil, Mephisto, which might hint strongly at an adaptation of a controversial Marvel Comics story, there have also been rumors of street-level civil war and multiversal mayhem as a result of an unprecedented crossover between the MCU and Sony’s now deceased Spider-Man Universe.

It’s impossible to say what role, if any, Garfield may have in any of those rumored plots or in any other direction the studios ultimately decide to move. Whatever the decision by the studios, there can be no doubt that a return by Garfield would be welcomed both by fans and those who worked with him on Spider-Man: No Way Home, so whether or not The Werewolf is dissembling once more or truly doesn’t know, here’s to hoping Sony and Marvel find a place for him in Destin Daniel Cretton‘s upcoming Spidey film.

  • ‘Spider-Man 4’ Casting Rumor May Indicate Marvel Is Searching for a New Love Interest for Peter Parker

‘Spider-Man 4’ Casting Rumor May Indicate Marvel Is Searching for a New Love Interest for Peter Parker

As was the case with Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel Studios and Sony’s next Spidey collab has been subject to an absurd amount of rumors and speculation ahead of its expected Summer 2025 start of production. With so many wild and wide-ranging reports making the rounds, it has become incredibly difficult to make sense out of what to actually expect from the film when it hits theaters in 2026. However, assuming the studios intended to follow the path upon which they set their hero at the end of No Way Home, some possibilities do make more sense than others.

One of the more realistic routes the film might take would be to follow Peter Parker’s new life in which his old friends no longer remember him and he transitions to a more traditional Spider-Man. It’s reasonable to assume that might include Parker enrolling in college, perhaps at Empire State University, where, in the comics, he met a whole new group of characters who played major roles in his life including Harry Osborn and Gwen Stacy. And now a new report from a trusted insider has people beginning to believe that the latter may be headed to the MCU in Spider-Man 4.

According to Daniel Richtman, Marvel is considering Furiosa: A Mad Max and The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy for an unknown role in Spider-Man 4.

While some corners of social media are flocking toward speculation that the actress may be in the running for the role of Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, another intriguing possibility has also generated some by buzz as fans consider that Taylor-Joy would make for a pretty damn great Gwen Stacy.

Of course, it speaks to both the actresses range of talents and popularity that Taylor-Joy’s name would be associated with two very different characters, both of whom played integral roles in both parts of Pete’s life. While this would mark the third live-action iteration of Gwen (with Bryce Dallas Howard and Emma Stone each having portrayed the characters in Sony’s previous Spider-Man franchises), Hardy has really never been fully realized in a Spider-Man film.

Certainly should Taylor-Joy portray one or the other of the two characters, it would not necessarily mean the other would be ruled out of an appearance in the film. Previous rumors have circulated that Marvel was interested in Sydney Sweeney and a “Madelyn Cline-type” actress for a role in the film. Either of those stars could arguably fill the role of Felicia Hardy alongside Taylor-Joy as Gwen. At this point, even though trades will likely break casting news in the new year, it may be some time before the true nature of the new film, and the roles within in, becomes clear.

Spider-Man 4 is currently expected to swing into theaters on July 24th, 2026.

  • Hell is Empty…New Rumors Suggest All the Devils Are in ‘Spider-Man 4’

Hell is Empty…New Rumors Suggest All the Devils Are in ‘Spider-Man 4’

Perhaps no Marvel Studios movie took hardcore fans for more of a ride before it was released than Spider-Man: No Way Home…and that madness may have already been surpassed by its sequel.

In 2021, ahead of the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which put a bow on the MCU-set Spider-Man trilogy, Marvel Studios One Above All, Kevin Feige, assured fans that development on a fourth Spidey film had already begun in collaboration with Sony. Star Tom Holland reportedly struck a deal to stay on as the Wall-Crawler in 2022 shortly after Feige revealed that Spider-Man and Daredevil were set to lead the MCU’s crew of street-level heroes through the Multiverse Saga.

In an early 2023 interview with EW, Feige revealed that the studio cracked the story for Spider-Man 4 and that development on the script had begun. “All I will say is that we have the story,” said Feige. “We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now.” Though the work stoppages of 2023 slowed progress on putting that story together, details on the plot of the first installment of the new Spidey trilogy emerged. Spinning, in part, out of the events of the D+ streaming series Daredevil: Born Again, Spider-Man 4 was rumored to feature a “street-level civil war” that would see Spidey and Daredevil gather a team of heroes to take on Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin in an adaptation of Marvel Comics Devil’s Reign that would feature Spidey teaming up with Daredevil to take on Wilson Fisk.

More recent buzz had the film evolving into an unprecedented high-stakes crossover event that would feature Sony’s latest Venom villain, Knull, the King in Black. However, despite Venom: The Last Dance just touching “the beginnings of his story”, rumors of the project being titled Spider-Man: The King in Black quickly pivoted to another comic-based title: Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Following the events of Doomsday, Peter Parker is determined to lead a normal life and focus on college, stepping back from his responsibilities as Spider-Man. However, peace is short-lived when a deadly new threat emerges, endangering his promise. With stakes higher than ever, Peter reluctantly returns to his Spider-Man identity and finds himself teaming up with an unlikely ally to protect those he loves.

-Reported synopsis of Spider-Man: Brand New Day via Prodcution Weekly

Though the latest rumored synopsis for synopsis skirted the issue, the Brand New Day subtitle will certainly ring a bell with comic book readers as the follow up to the controversial One More Day arc that saw Peter Parker strike a deal with the devil. Now, a new report from a longtime Hollywood insider points the pitchfork at a potential appearance by that very devil…and another…in Spider-Man 4.

In a bit of a chaotic scoop, Jeff “The In” Sneider revealed that Sacha Baron Cohen‘s Mephisto, set to make his MCU debut in 2025 in Marvel Television’s Ironheart, may appear in Spider-Man 4…but that he also may not…but that it would be great if he did…but there’s no confirmation that he will. Sneider did, however, feel far more confident that Charlie Cox‘s Daredevil would indeed appear, though whether or not it would be as part of the rumored Devil’s Reign adaptation was not addressed.

While Sneider ‘s sources are mixed on an appearance by Mephisto, there’s no doubt that the state in which Parker’s life was left  at the conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home would absolutely leave the door open for the Whisperer in Darkness to attempt to make one of his foul pacts. And, perhaps coincidentally, that would align with the rumored Spider-Man: Brand New Day synopsis. Pragmatically, it’s likely the rumor mill is only a quarter turn or so through its most frustrating rotation as fans should buckle in for another “are Garfield and Maguire in No Way Home” scenario.

Spider-Man 4 is set to begin filming next summer and is due in theaters on July 24, 2026.
