Danny Huston Joins ‘The Crow’ Reboot

The long-in-the-works The Crow reboot is finally in production. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Danny Huston is the latest to join the cast of the reboot. He’ll join the previously announced Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs. The reboot is described as a modern reimagining of James O’Barr’s popular graphic novel, with Skarsgard playing the titular character. Details surrounding Huston’s role are currently unknown.

Director Rupert Sanders is directing the film, which is reportedly weeks into production in the Czech Republic. This marks a return to blockbuster filmmaking for Sanders who found himself in the midst of controversy after Snow White and the Huntsman. He’s directing The Crow from a script by Zach Bayli.

Huston has built up a rather impressive resume throughout his long-standing career. He’s appeared in films such as The Aviator, 30 Days of Night, and Marie Antoinette. On the small screen, he’s starred in shows like Magic City, American Horror Story, Yellowstone and Succession. Comic book fans, however, might know him best for his appearance as Stryker in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

As of now, The Crow reboot does not have a release date.

  • FKA Twigs Joins Bill Skarsgard-Led ‘The Crow’

FKA Twigs Joins Bill Skarsgard-Led ‘The Crow’

Just a few days ago, we learned that Bill Skarsgard will spearhead a new attempt at reviving the cult classic The Crow for a modern audience. Rupert Sanders will take on directing duties on the project with the former Pennywise taking on the iconic role. Well, the project is moving at a fast speed, as The Hollywood Reporter has now revealed that musician FKA Twigs has joined the reboot and will co-star alongside Skarsgard as the main love interest.

What is interesting is that THR’s Borys Kit also added some additional information on Twitter highlighting that it’s unclear if they’ll go down the resurrection storyline, or it becomes a personification of the crow. We might not know until we get the first trailer, as the production is eyeing a June production start in Prague and in Munich.

While many mainly remember the film starring the late Brendan Lee, the story is actually based on James O’Barr indie comic by the same name. After being assaulted by a gang, a man is resurrected by a mystical crow and enacts his revenge plan on those that took his life and that of his love, who will be played by FKA Twigs. It’s unclear if they might make more changes to adapt it to the modern age or stick to a more Victorian-inspired design like the first film did. For now, it’s kind of a miracle that the production is picking up speed, to begin with given how cursed any previous adaptation has been.

  • Bill Skarsgard to Lead ‘The Crow’ Reimagining by Director Rupert Sanders

Bill Skarsgard to Lead ‘The Crow’ Reimagining by Director Rupert Sanders

Not, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke, but it looks like The Crow reimagining has once again entered some form of development. This time around, It‘s former Pennywise, Bill Skarsgård, will take on the role with Rupert Sanders set to direct the project. It’ll once again explore the revenge mission of Eric Draven with King Richard‘s Zach Baylin writing the script of the modern take of the classic. The 1994 version is infamous for the accidental on-set death of Brandon Lee. The Nun‘s Corin Hardy has been trying to get a new version off back in 2018 with Jason Momoa originally attached.

Some have said that any attempt to revive the franchise has been cursed for quite some time. The Momoa revival has been in development hell long before he was attached to the project in some kind of form. Of course, there’s some hesitancy to tackle a project like this given Brandon Lee‘s death after the gun prop used wasn’t cleared ahead of time. It’s been a tragedy that set new security regulations for the entire industry.

It’s uncertain if the story wills tick to the story of the original adaptation, or give it a unique twist. They might certainly try to modernize the storyline, or they could stick to the original’s more Victorian-inspired design. There a re a few angles they could take while still paying tribute to the original film and its legacy. As it’s still in early development, we’ll see where they take the story once production picks up.
