  • ‘TMNT: Mutant Mayhem’ Spinoff Series and Sequel Already in Development

‘TMNT: Mutant Mayhem’ Spinoff Series and Sequel Already in Development

There’s just something about those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that lets the franchise constantly reinvent itself, but still remain a strong IP for children of any generation. A brand new film is on the horizon titled Mutant Mayhem, which will be the first to feature actual teenagers in the leading role. Now, it seems that before the film even released in theaters, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies are ready to start a brand new franchise.

A new spinoff series has now been confirmed, the first hinted by Cinelinx. The series will be titled Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and will appear on Paramount+. It seems that they already mapped out a two-season release and it’ll bridge the story between the first and its confirmed sequel. Jeff Rowe will return to write and direct the sequel.

Turtle veteran Alan Wan and Chris Yost will serve as the showrunners on the new Paramount+ series. Lukas Williams will be overseeing these projects as well. The main cast is expected to return and it’s unclear if we can also expect the exact same art style given a series’ smaller budget and longer runtime. Though, it seems very likely that they’ll try to keep it consistent between them.

  • AAA ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle’ Game in Development Based on ‘The Last Ronin’

AAA ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle’ Game in Development Based on ‘The Last Ronin’

It looks like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ recent graphic novel titled The Last Ronin will become a video game. According to Polygon, it seems that the 2020 story is set in a futuristic city after the lone surviving member of the turtles takes on one last fight. The story was quite famous for using the iconic IP in an unexpected and darker way. Now, it seems that Paramount is currently busy bringing this to everyone’s consoles.

According to Senior Vice President of Games and Emerging Media (these titles are starting to get quite lengthy) for Paramount Global, Doug Rosen, revealed they are going to take inspiration from God of War in adapting this iconic storyline. We just recently got a callback to classic Arcade games with Shredder’s Revenge, but the Turtles never got a true AAA game that focused on a single-player experience.

It’s unclear if they will stick to the mystery from the original story, as it was built up for dramatic effect. One last Turtle holding the weapons of his beloved brothers made for quite a dark tale and is perfect for the God of War-like treatment. Each weapon owned by a brother open s up possibilities for exploring areas in new ways. They may already let you know who is the survivor and have you gather your brother’s weapons throughout the game, instead of just handing them out once you start the game.

The idea is also fitting given that a big challenge for any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles adaptation is the focus on multiple turtles with unique gameplay styles. Every turtle has a unique weapon and it’s challenging to create a single-player experience that can balance each one. Marvel’s Avengers attempted something similar with each Avenger but they all shared the same base controller settings. Still, it sounds like an exciting direction for a true AAA Turtles game and here’s hoping they are already further along in production.

  • Seth Rogen’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Unveils Stacked Cast

Seth Rogen’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Unveils Stacked Cast

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are finally heading back to the silver screen in style, as Seth Rogen flexes his animated muscle again. Ever since Mutant Mayhem was unveiled, many wondered what the series would look like and who might be taking on the roles of this new incarnation of the Turtles. While they still continue going through different iterations on TV, a high-budget animated project seemed very promising.

After a long silence, we finally got a tease of what’s to come with Mutant Mayhem, as the official Twitter account for this new film has unveiled the stacked cast of familiar and new characters heading our way. Not just that, but we also got the confirmation that the first trailer will finally arrive on Monday, March 6th.

So, let’s go through the amazing cast that has assembled for this Turtle Power showcase:

    • Nicolas Cantu is Leo
    • Shamon Brown Jr. is Mikey
    • Nicah Abbey is Donnie
    • Brady Noon is Raph
    • Jackie Chan is Splinter
    • Ayo Edebiri is April
    • Ice Cube is Superfly
    • Seth Rogen is Bebop
    • John Cena is Rocksteady
    • Paul Rudd is Mondo Gecko
    • Natasia Demetrious is Wing Nut
    • Rose Byrne is Leatheerhead
    • Post Malone is Ray Fillet
    • Hannibal Buress is Genghis Frog
    • Maya Rudolph is Cynthia Utrom
    • Giancarlo Esposito is Baxter Stockman

Now that is quite the stock of characters, especially with just how many different mutants from the many years of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles incarnations that are joining this project. It definitely screams Mutant Mayhem going by how many they are adding, though it’ll be interesting to see if this is an origin story or just continues in one of their usual adventures. The most notable absence though is Casey Jones isn’t on the list. Perhaps someone they hope to keep for a sequel.

It’s also great to see that they cast actual teenagers to play the iconic turtles in this version. They are commonly played by veteran voice actors, so this will add quite a refreshing take and add a little something special t this take on the characters. In a way, we might see the Turtles grow up alongside the actors if this manages to build up its own franchise moving forward.

  • Concept Art Offers First Look at Seth Rogen’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Moivie

Concept Art Offers First Look at Seth Rogen’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Moivie

It’s been a busy day, as Paramount went all out during its Earnings Call to talk about the future of its franchises. Among them was the announcement that Seth Rogen’s upcoming animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film will release in 2023 and will even get a villain-focused spinoff. It looks like that wasn’t all just yet, as @getFandom has also shared a first look at the series’ designs of the four turtles, which will offer us a feeling for what to expect from the project.

I am sold on the designs, mostly because of their simplicity. In the past, there’s been a strong focus on overloading the turtles with elements to make them unique. It looks like they’ll still retain some iconic elements, but it feels way more reserved. Donatello has some simple glasses but nothing too “techy” oversaturating his design. Raphael gets some bandages to highlight his rough attitude but no overabundance of scars or a bigger physique.

Who knows if the designs evolve throughout the film and especially if they plan on expanding it into its own universe or trilogy. If they are already planning a spinoff focused on the film’s antagonists, it might be a sign that they’ve certainly made some plans on how they want to expand the franchise and it’ll be exciting to see what a new cinematic TMNT series offers.

  • Paramount’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Film Adds ‘SNL’s Colin and Casey Jost as Writers

Paramount’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Film Adds ‘SNL’s Colin and Casey Jost as Writers

It looks like the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film has found its writers, as Deadline just shared that Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost and his brother Casey will tackle the project.  This project is separate from Seth Rogen’s new animated TV series, as it’ll be produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Scott Mednick, and Galen Walker. Plot details remain under wraps, but it’ll feature the popular brothers of pizza-eating mutated turtles.

There’s no word if this will be a live-action adaptation of the popular franchise, or if they will tackle an animated adaptation once more. We do know that Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures’ will adapt the turtles with a full-fledged CG reboot. Gravity Falls director Jeff Rowe is attached to the project, with Brendan O’Brien working on the screenplay. The last we heard of the project was around four months ago when Illuminerdi released character descriptions.

What is curious about this movie is not only that nickelodeon and Paramount are fast-tracking the project, it’s also Jost’s first major franchise. He did write Worst Man for Universal and starred in Tom & Jerry, but he is slated to return for the next SNL season. The IP is a high priority, and it seems that their pitch for the film might’ve convinced them to tackle it on the silver screen once more.

TMNT is a fascinating franchise that seems to get rebooted quite frequently by Nickelodeon. We’ve seen many iterations across the years that add a unique spin to the classic four turtles.
