Leslie Grace Speaks Out on the Cancellation of ‘Batgirl’

During her first major interview after it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery had decided to cancel the Batgirl movie after the first “disappointing” test screenings, actress Leslie Grace spoke out on how she found out and gave her take on the film.

The film co-directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah was meant to be released exclusively on HBO Max but then was “promoted” to a theatrical release. Instead of releasing in theaters, the film will never be seen at all as David Zaslav canceled the project and took a $90M tax write-off.

According to Leslie, she was unaware that the movie, initially slated to be available on HBO Max, had been put on hold until it was reported by the New York Post. “I found out like the rest of you… and then my phone just started blowing up“, explained the actress.

Leslie and her co-star Brendan Fraser were caught off guard by the news. Fraser recalls his initial reaction was laughing hysterically because he was being pranked. When he became aware of the reality of the situation, Fraser’s thoughts turned towards the loss of a potential icon to a generation of children. “What I find most lamentable,” said Fraser, “is that now a whole generation of little girls are going to have to wait longer to see a Batgirl and say, ‘Hey, she looks like me.’”

Rumors have swirled that Batgirl was “unreleasable”, though according to Grace, who saw the film in its most complete form it was “incredible.”

“I got to see the film as far as it got to; the film wasn’t complete by the time that it was tested. There were a bunch of scenes that weren’t even in there. They were at the beginning of the editing process, and they were cut off because of everything going on at the company. But the film that I got to see — the scenes that were there — was incredible. There was definitely potential for a good film, in my opinion. Maybe we’ll get to see clips of it later on.”

New Concept Art Reveals Scrapped and Gory Deaths in ‘Doctor Strange 2’

A Brand new concept art from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has caused quite a stir among fans. The artwork reveals an intense, graphic scene that wasn’t in the final cut of the film, as it showcases the death of our beloved Wong with his brain scattered on the ground. That is not all, as it also includes Mordo with a huge scratch mark on his face after fighting Scarlet Witch.

The level of detail in the concept art is sure to leave a lasting impression and has fans speculating about what the movie would have looked like if this stayed as part of the original vision. This new piece provides a glimpse into the intense world of Doctor Strange and certainly leaves us wondering what mature Marvel films will be able to offer to viewers in the future.

    https://twitter.com/scarletwnews/status/1622026859704614913?cxt=HHwWgoCwzbi1zIItAAAA

The head from Mordo is actually part of a deleted sequence that would’ve featured the Scarlet Witch decapitating the 616 version of the character as her way to intimidate Strange. It definitely would’ve made for an interesting way to set up the character but also would limit the use of Mordo in future projects as a result.

It’s definitely interesting to see just how much Multiverse of Madness has changed since its original vision. We don’t know if the decapitation was part of Scott Derrickson’s original take on the character or if this is more in line with Sam Raimi‘s usual gory take on horror. It’s not uncommon for early versions of the scripts and artwork to push the boundary as much as possible, but it makes you wonder what didn’t make it past the brainstorming stage.

‘Constantine 2’: How Keanu Reeves Led the Charge for the Sequel

Fans of 2005’s Constantine have eagerly awaited a sequel and now the resurgence of Keanu Reeves as John Constantine is finally underway, with Francis Lawrence back as director. Reeves expressed his love for the character and eagerness to collaborate with Lawrence again.

I don’t know if it was unfinished business but it was definitely a role that I loved. And I thought that Francis Lawrence, the director, did such amazing work. I loved playing that character, and I really enjoyed the film. I was like, [adopts Oliver Twist voice] ‘Can I please have some more?

    Keanu Reeves

In a recent interview with Total Film magazine, Reeves spoke of his excitement for the upcoming project, though he remains cautious and aware of the unpredictable nature of the industry. Despite initial criticism from hardcore comic fans, Constantine has earned a strong following, attaining a 72% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and was a financial success, generating a global box office total of $250 million on a $100 million budget.

The announcement of Constantine 2 was one of the first by Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022. However, prior plans for a slate of HBO Max original projects featuring “dark” DC characters were canceled following the merger. Regardless, Reeves sees this as a new opportunity to bring the character back to life in a new and exciting manner.

It’s exciting. It’s almost like an open playground that we can hopefully cook something up and play in, and I guess get out of the playground and prepare a meal… But I’m looking forward to it, and hopefully it can happen. You don’t know how these things go. But I’m definitely going to try my darndest to try and realize that dream.

    – Keanu Reeves

Though Reeves himself isn’t sure if the film will be made, fans eagerly await the return of the beloved actor as John Constantine and to see what the future holds for this beloved character.

Ex-DC CEO Creates new Production Company at Paramount

Walter Hamada, who previously served as the head of DC Films, has officially launched his new production company, 18hz Productions. The main focus of this endeavor from Hamada is to provide high-quality horror content to Paramount Pictures.

Hamada will be joined in this big project by Nathan Samdahl, a key figure in producing 2022’s critically acclaimed horror film Smile during his tenure at Paramount. He will fulfill the role of Senior Vice President of 18hz Productions. Additionally, the company has appointed Nick Romano as its Creative Executive to help bring its horror visions to life.

Nick is a true horror fan and his passion for the genre is contagious. Together they will be instrumental in making 18hz the home for horror.

    -Walter Hamada

The studio’s name is a subtle nod to the mysterious frequency of 18.98hz, also known as the “ghost frequency“, which is below the range of human hearing. Still, it has been rumored to induce hallucinations related to paranormal sightings.

Nathan’s work on hit genre movies like Paramount’s Smile, 10 Cloverfield Lane and A Quiet Place as well as his extensive filmmaker relationships make him the perfect addition to the team. I’m lucky the stars aligned and I was able to get him.

    Walter Hamada

Samdahl discovered and oversaw the production of the horror project Smile while at Players but left due to layoffs. The movie was released and became a hit, grossing over $216 million worldwide. Romano rejoined Hamada from New Line, where he had worked as a CE. He started his career at ICM Partners and graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.A. in screenwriting.

  • ‘Attack on Titan’s Final Season Gets a Release Date

‘Attack on Titan’s Final Season Gets a Release Date

Mark your calendars, as the highly anticipated third part of Attack on Titan‘s final season is set to air on March 3rd in Japan. As it’s a simulcast it’ll be available in the States on March 4th. It’ll be a part of this year’s Spring lineup of new anime releases, but MAPPA has revealed it’ll release in two parts with the second half released later in 2023. The mention of a “special broadcast” may hint that this isn’t multiple episodes but rather a special.

We’re pleased to announce the release date of Attack on Titan: The Final Season. Our initial goal was to broadcast the entire Final Season on March 3rd 2023. However, in the production process, the workload became must larger than expected. After consulting with the production committee, we’ve decided to release the Final Season in two parts

    Studio MAPPA

Although there might be some theories that the studio divided the season into two parts because they want to potentially “milk” the franchise, this is not a first for MAPPA. This situation happened before when they took hold of the series after its third season, because of the magazine’s problems with Wit Studio. Sadly, this is another case of history repeating itself, as MAPPA might have bitten off more than it can chew once again.

Attack On Titan was quite the hit when it was first released worldwide and there’s a lot of excitement to see how they will wrap up the series. Yet, the series has also lost its momentum having to stretch out the last few seasons, especially after a long hiatus before continuing after its initial success. Still, there’s excitement

  • ‘Demon Slayer’ Season 2 Heading to Netflix Later This Month

‘Demon Slayer’ Season 2 Heading to Netflix Later This Month

Fans of the hit series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba will be able to revisit the iconic series’ second season quite soon, as a new listing on Netflix has it set for a release on January 21st. There are no details on what is included in this second season, as the Mugen Train Arc was available as a standalone film, but was also redone in a seven-episode arc for the series. There’s a chance that they’ll simply include that arc with the Entertainment District Arc, the actual second season of the anime.

Kimetsu no Yaiba was a popular manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotoug, which was first published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in February 2016. The series ran until May 2020 and follows the story follows the journey of a Tanjiro, whose life is changed forever when his family is killed by demons. With his sister infected, he sets out to find a cure and save what is left of his family.

The series saw a massive increase in popularity after the release of its anime adaptation. It offered a beautiful showcase of what animation is capable of, and the colorful cast of characters added a lot to get viewers hooked on its surprisingly dark premise. The series is currently set up for the next season, which will adapt the Swordsmith Village Arc from the manga series.

  • Giancarlo Esposito is Ready to Roll into the MCU

Giancarlo Esposito is Ready to Roll into the MCU

It’s not a surprise that Giancarlo Esposito became one of the “top actors” that fans want to see joining the big Marvel family because of his excellent performance in shows such as Breaking BadBetter Call Saul, and The Mandalorian, to the point that the actor himself it’s interested in receiving that Disney money but not in the way that MCU fans think.

Even though everyone is on board to see Esposito on the big screen as Dr. Doom, he recently expressed interest in taking on a very different role; the 64-year-old actor is keen on playing Charles Xavier, leader of the X Men.

“I love what Marvel does. I love that the fans can see me in this universe and are proposing not only one character, possibly Magneto, possibly [DC’s Dr.] Freeze. And the biggest ask is Charles Xavier”

Giancarlo Espocito on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Some people may find this statement confusing since we recently saw Charles interpreted by Patrick Stewart in the latest installment of the Doctor Strange franchise, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. And yes, that’s a valid point. Still, we must remember that we saw him coming back as the Professor because Feige wanted to give the fans what they had been praying to see for years; this doesn’t mean that he might be Professor X from the MCU universe. He might be a variant. Hence, the door for someone different to play this character is still wide open (as we know).

“I want to play a good guy. Charles is smart. He’s good. But I feel as if there may be some mileage with me and Marvel. I know I love what they do. I know I love creativity. So who knows what could happen? Keep putting it out there”

Giancarlo Espocito on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

As Mr. Esposito said, the only thing we can do is make our voices heard, so the people at Marvel give us what we want.

  • ‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Featuring Rick and Michonne, Coming in 2024

‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Featuring Rick and Michonne, Coming in 2024

AMC has announced that the The Walking Dead spin-off featuring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will debut in 2024.

This spin-off will reunite their characters, Rick and Michonne, onscreen and provide closure to two of the most beloved characters in The Walking Dead. The still untitled show, has been described as an “epic love story.” The project was first teased at Comic-Con International in San Diego last summer and was initially thought to be released this year. The series finale of The Walking Dead drew more than 2 million viewers, and while the Rick and Michonne project was originally developed as a series of films, AMC has seemingly changed those plans to potentially recapture the magic of the original series early on. Production on the untitled Rick and Michonne series will begin later this year.

In addition to the Rick and Michonne spin-off, AMC is also developing The Walking Dead: Dead City with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon with Norman Reedus. “This next phase of our beloved Walking Dead franchise promises to engage and enthrall faithful viewers,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios at AMC Networks. “Fans new and old will love seeing zombies walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, beneath the Eiffel Tower, inside the Louvre, and at dozens more exotic and iconic locations from around the country and world.”

The synopsis for the forthcoming series can be read below.

Lincoln and Gurira reunite for a new spinoff series that will finally continue the journey of Rick Grimes and Michonne characters. This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?

Scott Gimple serves as the showrunner and executive producer on the untitled series alongside its stars, Lincoln and Gurira.
