‘Star Wars’: Donald Glover Eyeing Return As Lando For Future Project

Solo: A Star Wars Story actor Donald Glover wants to return as Lando Calrissian in a galaxy not so far away. Glover confirms that he is in talks to return as Lando in a future project. Details of exactly what that project may remain under wraps. According to Glover, Lando’s charming character is a rarity in recent memory, and he says he welcomes the chance to reprise his character.

“I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it. Time is precious…I’m not interested in doing anything that’s going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck….It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I like to hang out with.”

    Zak Sharf, Variety

If this new project is to be successful, it’s got its work cut out. Debuting in 2018, “Solo” was costly as the film narrowly exceeded its $250 million-plus budget. The $392 million worldwide sales did not net Disney a profit. Something else fans should remember: Director Ron Howard has openly said he’s unaware of a sequel in the works. He adds fans primarily drive news of a “Solo” sequel. Howard warns that while not impossible, he doesn’t get the sense it’s a priority for Lucasfilm. Glover returning to the big screen would be under other storylines for now.

Sony to Release ‘Spider-Verse’ Short, “The Spider Within” This June

Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks plan to release a new original short called The Spider Within. The new animation will debut exclusively at the Animation Film Festival just a little more than a week after the June 2nd release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The short, which is set in Sony’s animated Spider-Verse, shows a day in the lif of Miles Morales as he struggles to balance teenagehood, friends, and student life as Spider-Man.

The Spider Within is part of more significant efforts, including a mentoring program that provides high-potential candidates from underrepresented groups access to leadership opportunities. LENS (Leading and Empowering New Storytellers) supports the journey of candidates as they work together with program creators and producers Michelle Raimo Kouyate (Puss In Boots, Silver Linings Playbook) and David Schulenburg (Spider-Ham: Caught in a Ham) to produce a short animation.

Kouyate and Sculenberg expressed their gratitude for the new pathways created, saying:

We are very grateful to be part of a studio that is doing meaningful work to give voice to varied groups and to the studio leadership…who gave rise to this program and supported us every step along the way.

Joint statement from Michelle Raimo Kouyate and David Schulenburg

Launched last year, LENS is entering its second cycle, allowing this year’s participants to create a short film that aligns with “K-Pop: Demon Hunters,” an animated musical action adventure.

  • ‘House of Dragon’ Will See Shorter Season 2 as the Series Reconfigures for a Four Season Run

‘House of Dragon’ Will See Shorter Season 2 as the Series Reconfigures for a Four Season Run

The fate of HBO’s House of Dragon is beginning to take shape. As production begins shortly for the prequel’s sophomore season, critical choices are being made that will define the show’s overall landscape. Those choices, being made in part by showrunner Ryan Condal and author/executive producer Geroge R.R. Martin, include a reduced episode count for Season 2 as the look to outline and define the future of the series. As of now, The House of Dragon creative team envisions three to four seasons of the series.

Still, as season three awaits final confirmation, it is unclear what the absolute number of seasons will be, but in October, Martin spoke excitedly about the series potentially extending to four seasons:

I am thrilled that we still have 10 hours every season to tell our tale…It is going to take four full seasons of 10 episodes each to do justice to the Dance of the Dragons…

    George R.R. Martin

Whatever the decision, the series has the support of Warner Bros. Discovery, HBO’s parent company. It received a 200 million dollar marketing campaign last year that was a driving force for its huge August 2022 premiere and subsequent season two renewal shortly after.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler utilizes his talents on and off the big screen. This time, he is reviving a well-known show. Reportedly, Coogler is looking into The X-Files, a science fiction series that followed FBI agents as they investigate paranormal cases. The series originally ran for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002 before two additional seasons ran in 2016 and 2018. Two films, The X-Files and The X-Files: I Want to Believe, were also spawned by the series’ sprawling mythology.

The information about the new take on the show came via creator Chris Carter, who explained that Coolger is working on the reboot during an interview celebrating the original show’s 30-year anniversary.

I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount ‘The X-Files’ with a diverse cast. So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.

    Chris Carter

Coogler and 20th Century Television reps have yet to confirm. The project, which is in early development, falls under Coogler’s five-year deal with Disney. While it’s currently unclear which network might land the series, Variety indicates that Hulu is a strong contender.

  • ‘Scream VI’ Looks To Break $35 Million Opening Weekend Record

‘Scream VI’ Looks To Break $35 Million Opening Weekend Record

Scream VI is hitting screens Friday, March 10, and early reports suggest that the film could see at least $35 million from its opening weekend. The latest Scream film will have big shoes to fill as the industry expects it to improve over 2022’s Scream, which debuted at $30 million. Scream VI will likely see steep competition as the box officer leader, Creed III, has firm control of ticket sales and is expected to have a decent holdover going into its second weekend.

Of course, something working in the film’s favor is that the long-running Scream horror series is very popular and found success last year with $81 million domestically. Following the success of 2022’s Scream, Paramount quickly crafted another installment, promoting this year’s film with the infamous knife-wielding masked murderer fans have openly embraced.

Scream VI tells the story of survivors looking for a fresh start in New York. However, things quickly turn as they stumble upon a new Ghostface killer and a bloody rampage. The latest installment stars Melissa Barrera, Jenny Ortega, and Courteney Cox, and sees the return of Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed. It

  • NBA’s Adam Silver On Shortlist to Replace Bob Iger as Disney’s Next CEO

NBA’s Adam Silver On Shortlist to Replace Bob Iger as Disney’s Next CEO

When Bob Iger returned as CEO of Disney, it was known that it wasn’t going to last. Ever since he took over from Bob Chapek, he was on the path to retiring within two years once again. Fox Business announced Disney is cultivating a shortlist of viable candidates to succeed Iger but hasn’t yet nailed the one to take over just yet.

Potential options include Dana Walden, Disney’s entertainment co-chair; Kevin Mayer, CEO of TikTok and founder and CEO of Candle Media; Adam Silver, Commissioner of the National Basketball Association. The list allegedly has other possible internal contenders, including Alan Bergman, Walden‘s entertainment co-chair, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Parks and Resorts, and Jimmy Pitaro, President of ESPN.

Silver is an intriguing candidate who doesn’t quite share the same background as the other candidates but does have direct ties to ESPN, Disney’s flagship network, through his role as commissioner. He also has eight years of experience as president and COO of NBA Entertainment.

One executive of a major sports franchise spoke anonymously but provided some insight:

It’s an unusual choice since Disney is usually run by people who know the entertainment industry. But he certainly knows Disney and Iger, so it’s possible.

Charlie Gasparino , Eleanor Terrett – Fox Business

If selected, Silver has an uphill battle. The NBA generates $10 billion dollars in annual revenue compared to Disney’s $80 billion in 2022. However, running a professional sports league offers hands-on experience (such as management, dealing with various high-level stakeholders, and entertainment) that would lend itself well.

  • Amazon’s ‘Medusa’ Adds ‘Watchmen’ Director and Marvel Studios Writer

Amazon’s ‘Medusa’ Adds ‘Watchmen’ Director and Marvel Studios Writer

Amazon Studios is working on its latest project that’ll offer a unique spin on Greek mythology. The story of Medusa is about the iconic Greek mythological character, who sets out on a quest to save the world after running into some trouble with the gods. Nikole Kassell of HBO’s Watchmen fame is set to direct, with Marvel Studios veteran Nicole Perlman reimagining the script.

Details of the plot are not readily available, but reports say that Perlman will executive produce. Additionally, viewers will see Vinson Films’ Tripp Vinson and Tara Farney produce alongside Kassell. Kassell brings her experience from popular shows like The Leftovers, The Americans, and Westworld. She also has multiple accolades, including an Emmy nomination for outstanding direction for a limited series.

Medusa is an interesting character to adopt, as she’s commonly portrayed as a villain throughout most Greek mythology and even reinterpretations. The first outline of this project does sound like a superhero take on a classic mythological creature. Given that heroes are the modern take on mythology, it’ll be fun to see how they bring this iconic statue-making character into the modern era.
