The Mutant Decade — Jake Schreier Confirms Marvel’s Plan for “Multiple” ‘X-Men’ Films

The mutants are coming. Fresh off the news that the creative dream team behind Beef and The Bear is handling the script, director Jake Schreier has officially confirmed what we’ve all suspected: Marvel Studios is planning an entire X-Men Saga, not just a one-off reboot.

In a wide-ranging interview with Collider, Schreier revealed that the conversations with Kevin Feige aren’t about a single movie, but about building a multi-film architecture for Phase 7 and beyond.

I think that, obviously, first things first: We have to make one great movie. But we always have an eye as we’re talking about it too,” Schreier explained. “What are the different places this can go? What are the places that [have] been in the comics? What hasn’t been explored as much, and how can that be incorporated? And what are some of the different avenues that we could take that feel like the kind of less-trodden path that we could go down? But those ideas are always out there, as we have the discussions.”

Given that Fox flubbed the Dark Phoenix story not once but twice while choosing not to explore other interesting avenues such as the Starjammers, Shi’ar, Brood among others, there are numerous “less-trodden” paths the Mutant Saga could take.

By announcing the plan for multiple movies before the first one has even finished its script, Marvel is signaling a return to the “long-form storytelling” that fans felt was missing in Phase 4 and 5. They aren’t just making an X-Men movie; they are building a world where mutants are the primary lens through which we see the MCU.

  • Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo Reunited to Beef Up MCU’s ‘X-Men’

Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo Reunited to Beef Up MCU’s ‘X-Men’

Marvel Studios isn’t just looking for superheroes to lead Phase 7—they’re looking for the best storytellers in the business. In an exclusive update first reported by Collider, Thunderbolts* and X-Men director Jake Schreier has confirmed that he is bringing his heavy-hitting Beef and The Bear collaborators into the X-Mansion.

Lee Sung Jin (creator of Beef) and Joanna Calo (showrunner of The Bear) are officially working on the latest draft of the X-Men reboot script.

We’re still developing. You know, one of the exciting things that’s tying into Beef is that Sonny [Lee Sung Jin] and Joanna [Calo] both worked on this season,” Schreuer explained . “Obviously, I mean, Beef is Sonny’s show, and Joanna worked on the season as well, and we worked together on Season 1 of Beef and on Thunderbolts*. They have come in and are working on a draft right now, which is really exciting to be able to put that group of people together again.”

Marvel has leaned into prestige TV talent lately, but this move reunites the creative trifecta that turned Beef into an Emmy-sweeping phenomenon. Schreier, confirmed that Lee Sung and Call are currently “in the room,” refining the story originally penned by Michael Lesslie (Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes).

Schreier and Calo already have MCU chemistry, having worked together on the script for Thunderbolts*. Schreier explained that Lee’s “ability to take small interpersonal dynamics and explode them into a much larger canvas” made him a perfect candidate to work on an ensemble film like X-Men. Additonally, Schreier believes that the melodrama that defined a few decades of X-Men comics plays into the strengths of the new pair of writers.

When you go back and read X-Men [comics], there’s ideology but also interpersonal drama, almost of a soap opera quality. Having writers who understand both how to drive ideology from personal stakes, if we get that right, that’s what will feel most honest to what X-Men can be.

For years, the complaint against the Fox X-Men movies was that they focused too much on the spectacle and not enough on the school or the family. By hiring the people responsible for two of the most intense character studies on television, Marvel is signaling that the MCU mutants will be defined by their relationships first, and their powers second.

  • Marvel Television Officially Moving Forward with a Second Season of 2025’s Surprise Animated Hit

Marvel Television Officially Moving Forward with a Second Season of 2025’s Surprise Animated Hit

Though Marvel Animation’s Marvel Zombies wasn’t the studio’s highest-rated streaming series, the four-episode mini-event captured a massive audience. Ahead of its debut, streaming skipper Brad Winderbaum teased that while there were certainly more zombie tales to be told, viewership numbers would determine whether or not the studio would move forward.

It wasn’t long before Winderbaum confirmed that Bryan Andrews had begun development on a new batch of episodes, though he cautioned that the studio had not quite given the green light to head into production. Now, on the heels of the announcement that Marvel Television was moving ahead with a second season Wonder Man, Winderbaum has confirmed that fans will indeed get a second season of Marvel Zombies.

During an appearance on the Escape Pod Podcast, Winderbaum revealed that he had seen the first animatic for the first episode of the new season, teasing that Season 2 will deliver on “an MCU thing that has really never happened before.”

The first season was a lot of fun and included “a truly all-time great zombie apocalypse moment that sits right there with 28 Days Later and World War Z.” Given the rate at which animated series are developed and produced, it’s unclear if Season 2 of Marvel Zombies will be available on D+ in 2027, 2028 or beyond.

Robert Downey Jr. May Have Confirmed an Additional Pair of Heroes for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Since returning to Marvel Studios to play Doctor Doom, Robert Downey Jr. has often posted Doom-themed holiday images to his personal Instagram account. This Easter weekend, he did so again and fans believe some “hidden Easter eggs” have revealed a pair of characters whose presence in Avengers: Doomsday has, so far, not been confirmed.

The image features Doom holding an Easter basket loaded up with eggs decorated with the symbols of the heroes from across the Multiverse set to face the villain in the upcoming film: Shang-Chi, the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Black Panther, Thor, Namor, Ant-Man, Loki and Captain America. However, tucked in the back of the basket behind the other eggs are a pair of eggs with the symbols of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange.

Benedict Cumberbatch was not among the 27 stars revealed as part of the primary cast during last March’s 5-hour Livestream reveal; however, he has often been rumored to be in the film, with Cumberbatch‘s Strange said to have filmed “pivotal, high-security scenes” as Doom’s “wizard sidekick.”

While the Strange logo leaves no room for debate, it might be worth pointing out that the Spider-Man logo more closely resembles the only typically associated with Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man than that seen on the suit worn by Tom Holland‘s Wall-Crawler. And, in fact, it is Maguire‘s Spidey who has often been linked to the project, with claims of a scene filmed with Deadpool and Wolverine having stirred up fans over the past few months.

  • The Road to Star Wars Day: ‘Maul-Shadow Lord’ Episode Title and Release Schedule

The Road to Star Wars Day: ‘Maul-Shadow Lord’ Episode Title and Release Schedule

We are less than 12 hours away from the return of Sam Witwer as the voice of Maul, and we now have the full map for former Sithord’s journey. Disney+ has confirmed the release schedule for Maul-Shadow Lord, and it’s a sprint to May the 4th.

    The Lineup:

    • April 6: Chapters 1 & 2 (“The Dark Revenge” / “Sinister Schemes”)
    • April 13: Chapters 3 & 4 (“Whispers in the Unknown” / “Pride and Vengeance”)
    • April 20: Chapters 5 & 6 (“Inquisition” / “Night of the Hunted”)
    • April 27: Chapters 7 & 8 (“Call to the Oblivion” / “The Creeping Fear”)
    • May 4: Chapters 9 & 10 (“Strange Allies” / “Finale”)

New episodes will be available at 12 AM PT/3 AM ET.

The decision to release these in pairs weekly is a smart move to keep the event feel alive during the lead-up to finale. By ending on Star Wars Day–amd withholding the final two episodes from the screening package–it’s obvious that Lucasfilm has a major surprise or two in store.

  • Karen Page Spotted with the New Mayor of NYC in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 Set Photos

Karen Page Spotted with the New Mayor of NYC in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 3 Set Photos

Despite the fact that Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again hasn’t yet reached the midway point, Marvel Studios has made it clear that the Mayor Fisk storyline will not carry into Season 3. Fans believed the first teaser for Spider-Man: Brand New Day revealed the Kingpin’s successor in Gracie Hall and recent photos from New York City set of the third season have confirmed that belief.

It seems as though Shelia Rivera will be filling the Wilson Fisk-sized void in the Mayor’s office in Season 3 and that she’ll be sharing some scenes with Karen Page, who no longer needs to be lurking in the shadows.

With the return of Luke Cage also confirmed, it’ll be interesting to see if Rivera remains Mayor or if Cage looks to throw his name in the ring, should a new election be taking place. Cage followed Fisk’s reign of terror in the comics but the MCU iteration of Harlem’s Hero is quite different from his MCU counterpart.

New Evidence Confirms Production Location, Offers Potential First Clues about One of Marvel’s First Phase 7 Films

Just a couple of weeks ago, Marvel Studios released its most recent Phase 7 slate. Kevin Feige and the Parliament paired the number of films in 2028 from four to three, in addition to revealing what is certainly nothing more than the first draft of its slim 2029 slate. All told, the current configuration of Phase 7 consists of five films, spanning from May 2028 through July 2029.

Now, as the studio prepares to begin production on the Multiverse Saga finale, Avengers: Secret Wars, a pairing of publicly accessible records has provided production information and potential plot clues for one of the studio’s first Phase 7 films.

As of March 24th, Marvel Studios had registered Fragment Productions LLC. for motion picture production activities in the UK. While that information still hasn’t hit the web, it led to some serious speculative tweets by yours truly. However, a recent update to the SAG-AFTRA website, located by one of MM’s Discord mods, has clarified the nature of the project.

According to the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists Production Listing database, Marvel Studios will be producing Black Panther 3 under Fragment Productions LLC.

Despite some concerns that writer/director Ryan Coogler might not move forward with the threequl, the project has been in development for some time. And while rumors have the studio recasting Damson Idris in the role of T’Challa, neither Google nor the studio has confirmed any details about the project, though Denzel Washington has revealed he believes he will be attached to the film.

While Washington‘s role has not been revealed, rumors have claimed that he would be playing the devious and disruptive villain Achebe. While it’s unclear what the status of the universe, much less Wakanda, will be following Avengers: Secret Wars, Achebe would make a fine antagonist for the nation of Wakanda.

The name of the production company represents a shift for the studio, which had previously produced Black Panther franchise films under Kimoyo Productions and Kimoyo II Productions, respectively. And as for what direction, if any, the newly formed company’s title might indicate a story for the film…well, that’s a different process entirely. Fragment could refer to a fragment of Vibranium; it could refer to Wakanda somehow remaining as a fragment of the previous iteration of the universe post-Secret Wars; it could refer to an attempt to adapt Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda run, in which Wakanda expanded into space before eventually facing internal civil wars and political fragmentation.

At the time of publication, Disney had not responded to inquiries about the nature of the LLC or how it may relate to Black Panther 3.

  • Ever Watchful— ‘The Batman-Part II’ Working Title Points to the Court of Owls!

Ever Watchful— ‘The Batman-Part II’ Working Title Points to the Court of Owls!

Matt Reeves is back in the director’s chair, and the production secrets for the most anticipated sequel in DC history are finally starting to leak. The working title for The Batman – Part II has been revealed and it may well point to the sequel being exactly what we all thought it might be.

While a working title is often a decoy, in the world of Reeves’ Epic Crime Saga, it’s usually a roadmap. And if you know your Gotham lore, “Semper Vigilans” points directly to the one villain fans have been begging to see: The Court of Owls.

In the comics, the Court of Owls is a centuries-old secret society of Gotham’s wealthiest families who pull the strings of the city from the shadows. Fans have heavily theorized their inclusion in the franchise since 2022.With the city still recovering from the Riddler’s flood, the power vacuum is the perfect time for an ancient elite to re-emerge.

  • ‘Daredevil:Born Again’: BTS Photos Confirms the Return of a Pair of Major Characters for Season 3

‘Daredevil:Born Again’: BTS Photos Confirms the Return of a Pair of Major Characters for Season 3

With Marvel Television intent on producing new season of Daredevil: Born Again on an annual cadence, fans will continue to run the risk of learning information about each “next” season before the “current” season completes its run. While it’s easy enough to avoid major spoilers (and as Season 2 will prove, easy enough for the studio to keep major reveals away from the public eye), it’s impossible to keep everything under wraps when much of the series is filmed on the streets of New York City. And with filming on Season 3 underway, a pair of major characters have been confirmed to return to your small screens in 2027.

Behind the scenes photos from the NYC set have revealed that both Krysten Ritter‘s Jessica Jones and Deborah Ann Woll‘s Karen Page will not only be back for Season 3 but will be sharing scenes…with no sign that Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock will be joining them.

    Karen Page and

Shared by Daredevil Shots, the new photos reveal trailers for “Jessica Jones” and “Karen” and “JJ” (reported to be the stunt double for Ritter).

It’s been made clear by Marvel’s streaming skipper Brad Winderbaum that fans should expect more Jessica Jones stories in the future and the photos confirm that at least some portion of those will be told in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3.
