  • Sebastian Stan Has “No Clue” What’s Next for Bucky

Sebastian Stan Has “No Clue” What’s Next for Bucky

Marvel Studios streaming series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier allowed Sebastian Stan to showcase his talents and really dive deep into who Bucky Barnes was. By the time the season was over, Bucky had seemingly moved on from the haunting memories of his time as The Winter Soldier and was, for the first time in nearly 100 years, free to move on and purse a life of his own choosing.

Like many of the other characters from the Disney Plus streaming series, it’s clear that there’s another chapter in Bucky’s story waiting to be told, but it isn’t clear when that chapter will be told. While it makes sense the Stan would reprise the character in Captain America 4, there’s hardly been any word on that film, much less its cast. With so many people wondering when we’d see Bucky next and no clear answer, Collider went right to the source, asking Stan when he’d next appear in the MCU during an interview for his next film The 355.

I don’t know. Per usual, I can’t answer that question. I have no clue, but look, I think it’s sort of about seeing what’s next for him, right? To some extent, the show, I felt, really graduated him to another level of experience and taking on his past a lot better and gave him another sense of place and sense of family that he’s found there with Sam. So he’s in a pretty good spot right now. I’d be curious to see what the next interesting thing that we could tell with him would be, and as you well know, that is above my pay grade. There are far wiser men and women who are making those decisions.

Stan did go on to promise that Bucky was not among the multitude of rumored cameos in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Animated projects aside, it doesn’t seem as though Stan has been a part of any of Marvel Studios projects that have wrapped recently or are still filming, meaning it might be until 2023 before the live-action return of Bucky Barnes. But as much as Stan loves playing the character and as much as fans love him, there’s certainly a future in store for him.

  • Leaked 2022 Marvel Legends Wave to Feature Quake

Leaked 2022 Marvel Legends Wave to Feature Quake

Near the end of 2021, a pretty good-sized leak revealed many of this year’s upcoming Marvel Legends waves. Among the figures mentioned in the leak were Sleepwalker and D’Spayre, who turned out to be part of the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wave that was recently revealed. Now, the same leaker, YouTuber Rektangular, has some updated information on another wave.

Rektangular’s original information indicated that a comic-based Avengers wave would be hitting shelves in September of this year. It now appears that wave has been moved up to April, meaning it’ll be available for pre-order soon, and with the move comes more information about which figures collectors can expect. According to Rektangular, the wave will contain the following seven figures:

    Thor
    Iron Man
    Quake
    Blue Marvel
    Speedball
    Madame Hydra
    U.S. Agent

The inclusion of Quake is sure to get fans of Agents of S.H,I,E.L.D. speculating about Chloe Bennet’s return to the role; however, the wave is comic-based and not related to any of Marvel Studios upcoming projects, so this figure should not be taken as an indication of her joining the MCU. Collectors should still be excited though, as this is the first time the character has been made available in the Legends line. Blue Marvel and Speedball will also make their first appearances as Legends, with Speedball joining fellow New Warriors Night Thrasher and Firestar as characters who have recently been produced.

  • ‘Peacemaker’ Pop Up Offers a Closer Look at More Helmets

‘Peacemaker’ Pop Up Offers a Closer Look at More Helmets

Peacemaker is almost upon us just a few months after his first live-action appearance in The Suicide Squad. He is quite the oddball, on a quest for peace that includes killing anyone and anything that gets in his way, sporting a colorful outfit and a chrome dome that helps him stick out like a sore thumb even more than he did before. His helmet is his most iconic feature, and it seems the Peacemaker series is going to run wild with infinite possibilities as to what these helmets could be.

The past few trailers for Peacemaker have given us a look at a few new helmets in the series. We get a glimpse at Christopher Smith’s base of operations that includes a display case full of unique helmets, which in the comics have different functions. A new pop-up event for the HBO Max series features a display case with a few new helmets that we have yet to see before and gives us names for said helmets.

One of the first helmets is an “Underwater World” that most likely gives him the ability to breathe and see underwater. The next is reminiscent of his early helmets, featuring an obscenely and comically large fin that’s dubbed the “Screwdriver.” His final helmet is called the “Itchy Dan” and is a basic Peacemaker but instead features a forehead of spikes that could prove quite useful in a headbutting match. It’ll be interesting to see if he wears these helmets or if they are simply a closer look at what else his display case includes.

  • Currently No Plans for ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ Sequels or Spinoffs

Currently No Plans for ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ Sequels or Spinoffs

Here’s some sad news, as even in a world filled to the brim with spinoffs and sequels, it seems that Warner Bros. has no plans for any expansion of the recently resurrected The Matrix franchise. The Matrix Resurrections – fitting title – wasN’t a cheap film to produce with $190M and there were expectations it would make bank at the box office. Yet, it currently stands at $106M globally and is struggling to even make its production budget back. It sadly even had the biggest drop in its second week.

There has been no word how the film performed on HBO Max as part of its simulcast release, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, it may have joined the top five. Box office analyst Jeff Bock had the following statement regarding its sub-par performance:

The fact that Resurrections is heavily meta doesn’t help attract new audiences either. Truth is, the multiplex masses weren’t on board

So, while HBO Max’s performance is optimistic there’s another issue that is adding some uncertainty about a future for the franchise. Lana Wachowski has not signed on for more films after directing the latest legacy sequel, and Keanu Reeves‘ contract does not include sequel options. As such, even if they move forward with sequels it doesn’t mean that the actor will also make a definite return. Even with a strong performance on the streamer, mostly related to its older audience, there has not been an official word by Warner Bros. For now, it seems like we might be in for another long wait.

  • Bill Murray Reveals He’s Playing a “Bad Guy” in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’

Bill Murray Reveals He’s Playing a “Bad Guy” in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’

One of the great mysteries surrounding Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has been the identity of Bill Murray’s secret character. The legendary funny man accidentally revealed his own involvement with the film some time ago, despite zero confirmation from the powers that be at Marvel Studios. Now, he’s finally given fans an idea of the role he’ll play in the film.

While making an appearance on the latest episode of The Eli Manning Show, the Ghostbusters star had this to say about his character:

    …I’m a bad guy.

    Bill Murray

It’s quite straightforward without giving away any details. Murray as a villain is quite a surprising direction and we can’t wait to see him take on this role. We’ll see what he’ll add to stand out from Marvel Studios’ roster of villains, who have varied from truly memorable antagonists, like the Mad Titan Thanos or the recent addition of Wenwu, to those forgotten to time. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters on July 28, 2023.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swinging Toward $700 Million Domestically

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Swinging Toward $700 Million Domestically

Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to dominate the box office.

The superhero flick is on its way to passing $700 million domestically, after pulling in $8.3 million on Friday. Current estimates have it on track for a $30 million weekend in its fourth weekend. That’s only a 45% drop from the New Year’s box office. This will push the film to $650 million domestically, with the film expected to hit $666 million by Sunday. With the film continuing to hold, it seems likely the film will cross $700 million at the domestic box office in the next week or two — an incredibly impressive feat, even pre-pandemic.

$666 million is enough to push No Way Home past Titanic ($659.3 million), while also pushing it to the sixth-highest grossing movie. The only big new release this weekend, The 355, failed to serve as any competition for No Way Home. The Simon Kinberg film – which he co-wrote, directed and produced – only took in $4.3 million. That is well below the projected $20 million the studio was hoping for going into the weekend.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is in theaters now.

  • ‘Peacemaker’s’ Danielle Brooks Talks James Gunn’s Support of Her Casting: “You Already Fit”

‘Peacemaker’s’ Danielle Brooks Talks James Gunn’s Support of Her Casting: “You Already Fit”

James Gunn‘s much-anticipated Peacemaker series makes its HBO Max debut in less than a week. The series is full of characters that look like they have jumped straight out of a comic book, including John Cena‘s Peacemaker and Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante. The series co-lead, Danielle Brooks, however, recently opened up to Variety some of the anxiety she experienced as someone who didn’t herself fitting into the superhero or comic book world the series takes place in.

The Orange Is The New Black star revealed that Gunn wrote the part of Leota Adebayo with Brooks in mind. When it came to the casting process, Brooks stated:

It’s [] this kind of nerve-racking experience, because you really want to fit in their world. When you audition and you get the part, you know that you were the right choice, but when you didn’t audition, you’re like, “I hope they don’t feel like they made a terrible mistake.”

    Danielle Brooks

Obviously, Gunn and Peacemaker did not make a terrible mistake. When Brooks expressed her concerns to Gunn, the writer and creator made it clear to her that she fit in Peacemaker‘s world:

So we ended up having a meeting, and we just hit it off. I explained to him [that] I’ve never seen anyone like myself in this world. It was really exciting for James to say, “I like you the way you are. I don’t want you to get all this training and try to lose 100 pounds” or all this stuff. He didn’t try to make me fit into his world. He said, “You already fit.” I really appreciated that.

    Danielle Brooks

It is always great to see that level of support between members on any project, and that will almost certainly be reflected in the series’ final project. Peacemaker’s confidence to bring in characters that challenge the traditional view of what a “superhero” project character can be undoubtedly seems like it will payoff for the series. Still, Brooks also noted the importance of her character to comic books and their stories in other mediums:

I started doing research before getting this part of, like, if I were to ever be asked which [comic book] characters I could play, who do I actually look like? There are a few that look like me, actually, but when they’re reflected on TV or film, they change them completely. Their look does not reflect what you see in the comics. I’ve always tried to manifest doing an action project, because I do feel like a big part of my driving force in this industry is changing the narrative of what leading ladies look like and what plus-size women are capable of doing. Part of that was getting out of my own way. When I had my daughter, I ended up gaining 60 pounds, so I didn’t feel confident. Before, I was doing Spartan races. Like I was out here over 200 pounds, doing Spartan races, and now I’ve gained 60 pounds on top of that, and I just felt like, “Can I do this [show]?” But I knew in the back of my head I could because I had the support of James Gunn, and not someone saying that you need to change any parts of yourself.

    Danielle Brooks

You can see Brooks bring Leota Adebayo to the screen when the first three episodes of Peacemaker drop on HBO Max on Jan. 13.

  • Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Concept Art Reveals Deleted America Chavez Scene

Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Concept Art Reveals Deleted America Chavez Scene

The Spider-Man: No Way Home runtime was already filled to the brim with cool characters and surprise appearances, but it looks like the movie originally had one more trick up its sleeve. A batch of brand new concept art for the wildly successful Spider-Man film has found its way online, and it reveals that Xochitl Gomez’ America Chavez was initially supposed to make a big appearance. The art, from artist Maciej Kuciara, features Chavez surrounded by Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and his friends, in what looks like a potentially pivotal moment in the story.

When Marvel Studios first announced its Phase 4 schedule, No Way Home was set to release after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A series of delays changed things up and it’s then likely that Chavez was removed from the spider-flick in order to make her debut in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel. It’s unknown what role she was to play in Spider-Man’s story, but America’s ability to travel between dimensions might have been a good reason to get her involved.

Writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers recently dropped the news that a different character was originally intended to introduce Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to the MCU. Perhaps America was supposed to appear and help Peter get the other Spider-Men to help him, instead of Ned gaining magical abilities. Also of note, it appears Flash Thompson and Betty Brant were at one point more involved with the action of the story, as they are featured prominently with the other protagonists in the image.

  • EXCLUSIVE: ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 5 Eyeing to Start Production Next Month

EXCLUSIVE: ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 5 Eyeing to Start Production Next Month

There has been quite a lot of anticipation for any news surrounding Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Its creator Bruce Miller has teased a lot more twists for the coming season, but even after its quick renewal, there was some uncertainty about when it could be expected. This is especially noticeable with rumors hinting at it potentially being the culmination of the entire series that started in 2017, as it may be it’s last. We can exclusively share that the upcoming fifth season is already readying up to start production in early February.

The first episode of Season 5 is currently set to film in Toronto, Canada with Elisabeth Moss, the show’s main star who brought the character of June Osborne to life, will take over directing duties. Series creator Bruce Miller wrote the script for the episode. She has previously directed the third episode of the last season titled “The Crossing”. Not just that, she also directed the eighth and ninth episodes “Testimony” and “Progress” before Liz Garbus took over for the finale.

The story is an adaptation of Margaret Atwood‘s famous novel that explored a dystopian future where a second Civil War led to women becoming child-bearing slaves. The fifth season will follow the aftermath of the actions Moss‘ June takes during the finale of the fourth season, and it’s not going to be an easy road ahead.
