  • Andrew Garfield Addresses Peter 3’s MCU Future

Andrew Garfield Addresses Peter 3’s MCU Future

Few people have been celebrated more for lying than Andrew Garfield. Despite an abundance of credible reports that he was reprising his role as The Amazing Spider-Man in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield showed his true talents as an actor by convincing the world that he was not. In doing so, Garfield joined a long and prestigious list of actors who boldly lied about their roles in Marvel Studios projects. By his own admission, he also “ruined his reputation” for telling the truth.

I mean, like the internet is a big place. I think there’s a lot of people who will just say anything to get clicks. So you might have been duped, I’m afraid.

-Andrew Garfield on his rumored return in Spider-Man 4

As a result, when the star denied rumors of a return to the role in 2026’s Spider-Man 4, it was met with some serious skepticism.

In Garfield‘s defense, he truly may have no idea whether or not he will return as Peter 3 because, if rumors are to be believed, Sony and Marvel seem to be unsure exactly what type of movie they plan to make. And so, in a recent interview with GQ UK, the actor didn’t hesitate to once again shoot down the idea that he’ll suit up once more in Spider-Man 4…or to understand that nobody will believe him anyway.

I’m gonna disappoint you,” said Garfield when asked about a potential role in the next installment in the MCU-set franchise. “Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.

We all came with our own history and with our own relationship to the character in our own films. I think what really was wonderful, and how it unfolded very early on, was Tobey and I felt very aligned and very clear about what our intentions were for being there. Ultimately, it was to serve Tom as an actor and, as characters, serving Tom’s Peter Parker. I think from that place, everything flowed. It enabled Tobey and me to have a bit more fun maybe than we would’ve had if we were the ones fully carrying the story.

-Andrew Garfield on his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home

While the most recent rumors about the plot of Spider-Man 4 suggest an appearance by the Marvel devil, Mephisto, which might hint strongly at an adaptation of a controversial Marvel Comics story, there have also been rumors of street-level civil war and multiversal mayhem as a result of an unprecedented crossover between the MCU and Sony’s now deceased Spider-Man Universe.

It’s impossible to say what role, if any, Garfield may have in any of those rumored plots or in any other direction the studios ultimately decide to move. Whatever the decision by the studios, there can be no doubt that a return by Garfield would be welcomed both by fans and those who worked with him on Spider-Man: No Way Home, so whether or not The Werewolf is dissembling once more or truly doesn’t know, here’s to hoping Sony and Marvel find a place for him in Destin Daniel Cretton‘s upcoming Spidey film.

‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Promo Art Reveals Tim Blake Nelson’s Leader

After a quiet year theatrically in 2024, Marvel Studios has three films scheduled for release in 2025, including its first February release since Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. Finally taking center stage in a film, Anthony Mackie‘s Sam Wilson will take on Harrison Ford‘s ragey Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World, but despite being a serious threat, the President is only a puppet whose strings are being pulled by far more sinister baddie.

Sixteen years after the next chapter in his story was set up in The Incredible Hulk, Tim Blake Nelson‘s Samuel Sterns returns in Captain America: Brave New World as the nefarious, super-intelligent supervillain, The Leader. And while he’s been hidden in the shadows in all of the film’s marketing materials, a fantastic look at the character has been revealed via new promo art.

Notably, Nelson’s Leader is certainly sporting a subdued and noticably less macrocephalic look than his comic book counterpart, though the case could be made that his cranium could still double as a drive-in movie screen. He is, however, indeed green, so he’s got that going for him, which is nice.

Captain America: Brave New World and The Leader arrive in theaters on February 14th!

  • Star Wars Voice Actress  Confirmed to Voice Agent of Atlas Hero in ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’

Star Wars Voice Actress  Confirmed to Voice Agent of Atlas Hero in ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’

As the final season of its first animated adventure, What If…?, comes to a close, Marvel Studios has quickly turned its attention to promoting its next animated project. Beginning on January 29th, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will begin streaming on D+ after years in development.

Originally titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year and intended to be set in the Sacred Timeline, showrunner Jeff Trammell pivoted from that idea once it became clear that the project would be severely limited in terms of characters available to help flesh out Peter’s story. Free from its canonical shackles, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is now set to introduce dozens of characters who have yet to make their MCU debuts, including some who have not traditionally been part of Spidey ‘s cast of supporting characters.

One such character, Pearl Pangan, is relatively new to Marvel, having only been introduced in 2019’s War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas series. A Filipino hero who goes by the name of Wave, Pangan has appeared in fewer than 30 comic book stories, allowing the creative team behind Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man significant room to breathe with the character. And while it’s unclear exactly what role Wave will have in the series, thanks to an official release by Disney, we know who will voice the character.

Per Disney, Cathy Ang, who recently voiced Morgan Elsbeth in an episode of Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, will be the voice actress behind Pearl Pangan.

  • Marvel Studios Reportedly Sets A Post-Multiverse Saga Date for Anticipated D+ Series

Marvel Studios Reportedly Sets A Post-Multiverse Saga Date for Anticipated D+ Series

Though 2025 will be another big year on Disney Plus for Marvel Studios, the Marvel Parliament remains committed to reducing the number of streaming projects released per year. As revealed by Disney’s Big Cheese, Bob Iger, Marvel Studios is moving in the direction of two streaming projects each year and it’s beginning to look like that plan will be fully realized once the studio completes its Multiverse Saga.

We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three.

    -Bob Iger

With Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart and Wonder Man set for 2025 and a second season of Daredevil: Born Again and the Vision-centric series already looking like sure bets for 2026, it 2027 may be the year that Disney finally dials back on Marvel Studios’ streaming content. Though no official announcements have been made, it’s beginning to sound like the long-awaited Nova series will be ready to go in 2027 and now, a new report points toward another highly-anticipated series potentially being on the schedule with it.

According to a new report from insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is planning to begin production on Champions in 2026 with an eye on a post-Secret Wars release.

Originally developed as Young Avengers, the project was recently reported to have undergone a title change to reflect the age of its core group of heroes. While there’s obviously no confirmed cast for the series, Iman Vellani (22 years old) and Hailee Steinfeld (27 years old) seem likely to lead the project alongside Dominique Thorne (27 years old), Kathryn Newton (27 years old), Elijah Richardson (25 years old), Joe Locke (21 years old) and Xochitl Gomez (18 years old). Additionally, Logan Kim (17 years old), who will portray Amadeus Cho in Captain America: Brave New World, the actor yet to be cast as Tommy Shepherd and, possibly, an actress yet to be cast as Viv Vision could all find their way onto the titular team as well.

With the studio recently locking Ed Bernero down as the showrunner for Nova, it’s widely accepted that the Human Rocket will be the studio’s first Post-Multiverse series. Beyond that, it’s up in the air but with the studio reportedly actively searching for a showrunner for Champions, it could certainly be ready for a late 2027 release.

  • Matt Reeves ‘The Batman’s Sequel Delayed a Second Time

Matt Reeves ‘The Batman’s Sequel Delayed a Second Time

It took Matt Reeves five years to bring The Batman to the screen after signing into the project in 2017. And it looks like he will  also take five years to bring the sequel to theaters.

According to THR’s Aaron Couch and Pamela McClintock, Reeves‘ sequel to 2022’s The Batman has had its release date changed for a second time. Though it was confirmed by Reeves to be starting production in 2025, The Batman sequel is scheduled for an October 1, 2027 theatrical release.

Originally planned for an October 3, 2025 release, the film’s theatrical debut was delayed until October 2, 2026 earlier this year to allow for the script to be completed. According to THR’s report, the Batman sequel, which remains untitled, will be replaced in October 2026 by a new Tom Cruise project with director Alejandro González Iñárritu.

  • DC Studios ‘The Brave and The Bold’ Facing an Indefinite Delay

DC Studios ‘The Brave and The Bold’ Facing an Indefinite Delay

Nearly two years ago, DC Studios’ co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran gave fans the first look at a group of planned projects that would make up part of the studio’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters slate. Creature Commandos has gotten the all-new DCU off to a solid start and the first teaser for Superman has generated some incredible buzz for the 2025 film. As for the rest of the slate, Gunn has made it clear that it is nothing if not pliable, as Clayface, a project left out of the initial reveal, having come together very quickly, jumping in front of others. And now, following months of speculation, one project has been confirmed to be facing a delay.

According to director Andy Muschetti, DC Studio’s Batman and Robin movie, The Brave and the Bold, won’t be heading into production anytime soon and “won’t be happening for a while.”

Muschetti boarded The Brave and the Bold in June 2023. Described by Gunn as “a very strange sort of father-son story,” The Brave and the Bold will reportedly introduce the DCU’s new Batman alongside his son, Damian, and will also “feature other members of the extended Bat-Family just because we feel like they’ve been left out of the Batman stories in the theater for far too long.”

Despite being one of the first projects revealed to the public, Gunn recently clarified that “there’s no set timeline for anything,” and that The Brave and the Bold, like every DC Studios’ project, will only be given a green light there’s a screenplay that he is “totally happy with.”

  • James Gunn Reveals One Project DC Studios Fans Won’t See Anytime Soon

James Gunn Reveals One Project DC Studios Fans Won’t See Anytime Soon

After nearly a decade in development hell, The Flash finally hit theaters in 2023. Mired in controversy due to star Ezra Miller‘s legal trouble and dead on arrival as Warner Bros. had committed to rebooting with the DCU in late 2022, the film performed poorly at the box office and served as a dour sendoff to the DCEU. Now, as DC Studios continues to forge ahead, it seems as though the specter of The Flash may continue to haunt the world of DC Comics’ greatest heroes.

While responding to a question about the recently announced Clayface film on Threads, DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn clarified that a DCU-set Flash project won’t happen anytime soon.

We’re holding a beat on development,” said Gunn of a potential Flash-led project. No Flash-centric project was announced during the January 2024 reveal of projects expected to be part of DC Studios’ Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and even as the makeup of that batch of projects evolves, no word about the Scarlet Speedster getting another crack at a solo outing has come.

That’s not to say, of course, that Barry Allen, Wally West or both won’t appear in other projects. Though the studio’s Teen Titans film is expected to feature the same core cast as Teen Titans Go!, Wally West, aka Kid Flash, appeared in over a dozen episodes over five seasons and has always been a core team member in the comics. Additionally, a character who many have presumed to be Wally West was among the dead heroes shown to Amanda Waller in a vision of one possible future of the DCU.

  • ‘The Peanut Butter Falcon’ Directing Duo Resurrecting a 1950s Pirate Classic at Disney

‘The Peanut Butter Falcon’ Directing Duo Resurrecting a 1950s Pirate Classic at Disney

Five years after their indie film, The Peanut Butter Falcon, garnered wide-ranging acclaim as a charming, character-driven adventure, director Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz are back on the scene with their follow-up film, Los Frikis. Described by Schwartz as “Spanish-language Cuban movie about HIV and punk rockers,” Los Frikis was a passion project for the pair who turned down major studio offers following their successful debut. However, as they look ahead to what’s next, Nilson and Schwartz may move away from their indie roots.

In an interview with THR, Nilson and Schwartz revealed that one possibility for their next project is a 70s, “Australian surfer” version of the 1950 Disney film, Treasure Island.

After nearly 20 years in development as an animated film, Disney pivoted and produced Treasure Island, adapted Robert Louis Stevenson‘s 1883 novel of the same name, as its first live-action film. A pirate adventure through and through, the film features Long John Silver, played by Robert Newton, whose over-the-top accent and antics have become ingrained in pirate pop culture. Over fifty years later, the studio finally delivered its animated adaptation, the sci-fi space adventure, Treasure Planet.

While Nilson and Schwartz’s new take on Treasure Island is still in development, it sounds as though it will be anything but another beat-for-beat Disney remake. “It has the patina of the 1970s surf world. It’s all there,” explained Nilson of the duo’s vision for the project. “It’s an Australian surfer version of Treasure Island,” said Schwartz, “and if they ever make it, it would be so fun. It has the vibes that we do, and there’s found family, brotherhood, drama and outsider energy.

  • ‘Creature Commandos’: Task Force M Will Return for a Second Season

‘Creature Commandos’: Task Force M Will Return for a Second Season

Only halfway through its first season, the DC Studios’ Max streaming series, Creature Commandos, has been renewed for a second season of monster madness.

We are excited to continue this wild ride with our partners at Max. You want more monsters, you’re getting more monsters!

    -Peter Girardi, WB Animation

We’re thrilled to team up to team up with Max for another season of Creature Commandos mayhem,” said DC Studios’ co-chair and series creator James Gunn. Despite the quick green light for another batch of episodes, unless production on the series is already under way at DC Studios, it could be quite some time before they hit Max. Despite all the advantages offered through animation, such projects are notoriously slow to get from the idea stages to a fully-realized series.

Only James Gunn could have conjured this wild band of misfit monsters who tug at your heart and force you to root passionately for them. We couldn’t be more delighted to continue their stories with James, Dean Lorey, Peter Safran and our fantastic partners at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.

-HBO & Max comedy programming head Amy Gravitt

With four more episodes of the first season left and Gunn already having taken one of the Commandos out of commission already, it’s unclear which cast members, if any, will return for a second season of the animated adventure.

The first four episodes of Season 1 of Creature Commandos are now available on Max with the fifth episode debuting this Thursday.

  • ‘Superman’ Set Prop Solves New Teaser’s Major Mystery

‘Superman’ Set Prop Solves New Teaser’s Major Mystery

The first teaser for DC Studios’ Superman garnered over 250 million views in its first day, making it, according to DC Studios’ co-chair and the film’s director James Gunn, the most viewed trailer in the history of DC and its parent company, Warner Bros. Given the latter’s century-long history of producing some of Hollywood’s biggest movies, that’s an incredible accomplishment.

The teaser provided the first look at David Corenswet‘s Man of Steel and the all-new DCU and it looks as though there will be a lot going on both in Metropolis and around the globe. In fact, it’s possible that at least a few of those 250 million views came from fans checking out the trailer multiple times while trying to uncover some clues about a mysterious figure seen on the front page of The Daily Planet.

Visible in several different scenes, the front page story of the paper boasts the headline “Hammer of Boravia Creates Havoc Downtown” next to a photo of said Hammer. Without a clear look at the photo, fans began to theorize about who the character may be with classic DC villain and Legion of Doom member Gorilla Grodd a popular pick. The character does, after all, appear in Creature Commandos and the blurry image does contain a pretty bulky figure. However, a high-res copy of the paper obtained by Twitter user DCU Updates reveals exactly who the chaos causer is and some very intriguing details that add context to the teaser.

It turns out the mysterious “Hammer of Boravia” is actually just the Hammer of Boravia, a character it seems that Gunn created for the movie rather than someone drawn from DC Comics’ lore. And he’s made the front page The Daily Planet because he came to town looking to tangle with Superman after the Man of Steel took it upon himself to end Boravia’s invasion of its neighboring country, Jarhanpur.

Metropolis was targeted by a superpowered mystery man on Sunday, resulting in over 20 million dollars in damage to the city. The self-titled “Hammer of Boravia” attacked Downtown Metropolis claiming it was retribution for the recent political interventions in Boravia by Superman. This vengeful expedition turned into a terrorist assault on American soil, hospitalizing 22 Metropolis citizens. Boravia has been the source of numerous headlines worldwide in recent weeks as it invaded its neighboring country Jarhanpur, only for the brief war to be swiftly ended by the Superman. The President of Boravia, Vasil Glarkos(?), maintains the Hammer of Boravia is not a representative of the national government, but rather an independent vigilante.

As theorized here, Superman seems to have taken inspiration from one of the character’s earliest comic book adventures which saw him single-handedly put a stop to a civil war raging in Boravia. It remains to be seen what stake, if any, LuthorCorps has in the Boravian invasion of Jarhanpur and if that’s how Superman ends up in the sights of Nicholas Hoult ‘s Lex Luthor.

When addressing the political ramifications of his actions, Superman said, “While critics thousands of miles away from this conflict continue to argue if what I did was right or wrong, the bottom line is peoples lives were threatened. I had to act.”

The notion of Superman inserting himself into global geopolitics isn’t novel, having played a major role in the character’s DC Comics history, with the character once having renounced his U.S. citizenship in Action Comics #900. “I’m tired of having my actions construed as instruments of U.S. policy,” the hero said, adding “Truth, justice and the American way – it’s not enough anymore. The world’s too small. Too connected” And that certainly seems to be the vibe Gunn was after by having the character involved in the invasion of Jarhanpur.
