  • Brian Tyler to Compose Illumination’s ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Movie

Brian Tyler to Compose Illumination’s ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Movie

We finally got our first tease of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie and it seems that they have dropped a small nugget of information about what we can expect from the film before dropping the trailer at us. As it turns out, it seems that composer Brian Tyler has been hired to bring the movie’s musical landscape to life.

It also seems like Tyler is going to work closely with composer Koji Kondo to include many iconic songs from the original games. So, if you’ve been worried they’d move away from the soundtrack that made the games stand out, they’re definitely not just creating a new soundtrack ignoring the original songs that made the game’s as classic as they are.

It’s going to be interesting to see what Tyler brings to the table and how they’ll appraoch the concept. Mario’s soundtrack has evolved quite a bit over teh years with the Odyssey one standing out quite a bit. Of course, he coudl try to reeplicate elements from across the years but still try to give it a unique spin. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what direction they take it once we see more fro mthe film.

It’s unclear who from the original cast will return, which included Lili Taylor, Lewis Pullman, Tamara Podemski, Tom Pelphrey, Shaun Sipos, Noah Reid, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercombie, Will Patton, and Imogen Poots.

Watkins is still involved with the production, as he’ll remain as executive producer on these series. • Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out’ Sequel ‘Glass Onion’ Gets Thanksgiving Limited Release

Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out’ Sequel ‘Glass Onion’ Gets Thanksgiving Limited Release

Many have lamented on the shame that the upcoming Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion, was a Netflix exclusive. while it’s a great win for the streaming service, it does seem like a shame that we won’t get the iconic franchise’s return in theaters. Luckily, it seems that we’re still going to get our hands on the film in theaters, as the film is going to head to theaters for a theatrical sneak preview event for a week.

What does make this stand out is that the film will be released in AMC Theaters, Regal Movies, Cinemark, and many more, which makes it the most chains one of their films have been released in. As of now, the film is set to be available in 600 theaters over Thanksgiving week. So, this might mark the biggest move from the streaming service to embrace theatrical releases.

  • ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Adds ‘The Strain’ Star

‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Adds ‘The Strain’ Star

It looks like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is kicking into high gear, as they are adding quite a few to the cast just after announcing the project. Wes Ball is set to direct the continuation of the original Planet of the Apes trilogy for the 20th Century and it has now added The Strain star Kevin Durand to its cast.

Durand is now the latest to join the cast which now includes Peter Macon, Owen Teague, and Freya Allen. Jessica Jones star Eka Darville was also announced to have joined the cast earlier today. there’s no word if Andy Serkis might be involved in some manner, as he spearheaded the original trilogies as the ape Caeser, but this film with a 2024 planned release technically takes place many years after the original.

It’s definitely going to be interesting to see just how they explore the titular “kingdom” and how humanity co-exists alongside the apes. There’s a lot of potential with this franchise as it moves away from the original that mainly acted as a more modern retelling of the origin from the original films, which wasn’t explored until the fourth entry, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes in 1972. So, perhaps this film acts as the set-up for where we originally got introduced to the science fiction franchise.

The darker take on the Scooby-Doo franchise explores the story of Velma Dinkley before she joins Mystery Inc. or even is a thought. While details have been sparse, it looks like we finally got the full cast revealed for the series.

Mindy Kaling takes on the role of Velma while Sam Richardson joins to take on the iconic role of Norville, better known as Shaggy. Glenn Howerton will play the series’ take on Fred with Constance Wu taking on the role of Daphne. They are joined by Frank Welker, Jane Lynch, Russell Peters, Wanda Sykes, Melissa Fumero, Gary Cole, Ken Leung, Stephen Root, Cherry Jones, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Sarayu Blue, Yvonne Orji, Fortune Feimster, Ming-Na Wen, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Kulap Vilaysak.

  • NYCC: Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy Tease their HBO Max ‘Scooby-Doo’ Prequel ‘Velma’

NYCC: Mindy Kaling and Charlie Grandy Tease their HBO Max ‘Scooby-Doo’ Prequel ‘Velma’

One of New York Comic-Con’s most exciting panels is for Velma, a new animated series from executive producer Mindy Kaling and showrunner Charlie Grandy. The former The Office breakout, a multifaceted talent in her own right, will voice Velma Dinkley in a reimagining of the character that sees her come from South Asian descent. Velma, who is billed as “the mystery before the Inc.”, will explore the origins of the title character and the rest of the iconic Scooby-Doo gang from an adult-oriented viewpoint. Kaling and Grandy were on hand at NYCC to discuss the series in-depth for the press, and Murphy’s Multiverse was in attendance to make note of it all.

Kaling began the panel by explaining that Velma was chosen as the protagonist because she offered the most unique perspective for storytelling. She also mentioned that she was happy to play the character because Dinkley was always the one she related to the most. Projects like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Riverdale were mentioned as inspirations for telling diverse stories about teenagers in the modern world, with a change to adult-oriented comedy giving fans of the franchise a new way of looking at the Scooby-Doo universe. Kaling clarified the series will not be for children and will cover topics like “teenage urges“. Grandy mentioned he wanted to take a look at why a group of kids would commit their lives to hunting criminals and solving murders, which Kaling ensured the press would be actually sort of terrifying.

Finally, the creative team confirmed Velma would take cues from the original 1960s series but would mostly have its own voice. Fans can expect to see origins for Velma’s famous “JINKIES!” catchphrase, and Shaggy’s well-known nickname. He’ll be called by his birth name otherwise. Velma’s relationship with her father will also be a major part of the series, something Kaling was especially excited about. More will be revealed when the cast and crew take the Main Stage later today, but for now, fans can feast their minds on more Velma information than ever before.

  • Ezra Miller Films Pickup Shots for ‘The Flash’

Ezra Miller Films Pickup Shots for ‘The Flash’

It has been confirmed that Ezra Miller has returned last week to the Warner Bros. Studio lot to film some pickup shots for 2023’s The Flash. This news comes after a long saga of various troubling reports involving the actor and their actions that ranged from perplexing to potentially severely dangerous to others. Miller had a meeting in August with Warner Bros. representatives, which is said to have been productive in terms of the future of the film’s ability to release.

They have issued apologies for their actions and have begun treatment for “complex mental health issues” after rumors began to circulate that this might lead to the outright cancellation of The Flash. The Andy Muschietti-directed film is set to adapt the Flashpoint comic storyline with Barry Allen’s multiversal traverses leaving rippling consequences across the DC Universe. One key element of this involves the return of Michael Keaton as Batman from his film franchise of the late 1980s and early 1990s alongside Ben Affleck’s reprisal of Bruce Wayne from the current universe.

It has been one of Hollywood’s worst-kept secrets that this film is set to serve as a partial reset point for DC’s cinematic landscape. This is something that many have argued is certainly necessary with the remnants of the Snyderverse preventing a new identity to be formed in a meaningful way. According to various sources, it has been said that The Flash may be exactly what DC needs based on how well the film has been performing with test audiences.

As of now, The Flash still intends to release despite the swirling controversies around it. The film is currently scheduled to release theatrically on June 23, 2023.
