SDCC: ‘What If…?’ Season 2 Release Date Revealed

Marvel Studios first animated series, What If…?, premiered last year and was well-received by critics. Spinning out of the events of Loki, which opened up the multiverse, the first season of What If…? spanned nine episodes and explored alternate realities where things didn’t play out exactly the same as they did in the since-officially-named 616-universe. It was always part of the plan to tell more of these alternate reality stories and now fans know when to expect Season 2.

As part of the first-ever Marvel Studios Animation panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the release date for Season 2 of What If…? was revealed. Season 2 of the streaming series is headed to Disney Plus in early 2023!

SDCC: Doctor Strange Joining ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’

Here’s a surprise no one saw coming but it looks like Doctor Strange will appear in the upcoming animated series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year. While a great surprise, alongside the confirmation of Charlie Cox reprising his role as Daredevil in the show, there’s no word if Benedict Cumberbatch is also going to return to voice. His addition also adds to the question if this project is actually MCU canon, as it was initially hinted at given they don’t meet until Avengers: Infinity War. This is definitely opening up a lot of questions.

  • Nico Minoru, Amadeus Cho, and Harry Osborne Will Be in ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’

Nico Minoru, Amadeus Cho, and Harry Osborne Will Be in ‘Spider-Man: Freshman Year’

It seems like Spider-Man: Freshman Year won’t be just a look at Peter Parker’s early days as the web-slinger but also an introduction to a lot of young staple characters in the Marvel Universe. The Marvel Animation panel currently taking place in SDCC just revealed that characters like Nico Minoru from the Runaways, Amadeus Cho, and Harry Osborne will all appear in Freshman Year.

Nico Minoru previously made her live-action debut in the Runaways series while Amadeus Cho has yet to make a live-action appearance (though Amadeus’ sister Helen Cho appeared years ago in Avengers: Age of Ultron). Depending on the level of canonicity this show has, Harry Osborne’s appearance in the show may raise a lot of eyebrows as he is one of the major Spider-Man characters that have yet to appear in Peter Parker’s orbit.

‘Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai’ Animated Series Adds to Big Name Guest Stars

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai has added a slew of guest stars to its cast. The HBO Max series announced that Bowen Yang, Sandra Oh, George Takei and Randall Park have all signed on to guest star in the animated series. The biggest news, however, is that Zach Galligan is returning as Billy for the series. The news was announced during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con today, with Galligan taking to the stage to surprise fans. Galligan will have a recurring guest role on the series. These cast members will join the previously announced James Hong, BD Wong, Ming-Na Wen and Matthew Rhys.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is set in 1920s Shanghai in East China. It focuses on a 10-year-old boy named Sam Wing, played by Izaac Wang, as he meets a mogwai named Gizmo. Along with Elle, played by Gabrielle Green, Sam will set out on a journey throughout the Chinese countryside to try and reunite Gizmo with his family. Along the way, Sam and Elle will happen upon creatures from folklore all while being pursued by an army of gremlins. Secrets of the Mogwai is meant to serve as a prequel to the classic film, with Sam’s characters sharing a name with the shopkeeper of Gizmo from the first film.

Joe Dante, who directed the two live-action films, served as a consultant on Secrets of Mogwai. The series hails from Tze Chun (Gotham), who produces it alongside Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Sam Register and Brendan Hay, while Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation serve as the studios behind the animated series.

Despite not having yet debuted, HBO Max has already given a second season order to Gremlins: Secrets of Mogwai. For those that don’t have HBO Max, fans will also be able to watch the series on Cartoon Network in the future.

As of now, Secrets of Mogwai does not have a premiere date.
