‘Obsession’ Breakout Star Confirms General Meeting with Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ Director

The explosive box office ripple effect of this summer’s microscopic-budget indie horror masterpiece Obsession may have made its way to Marvel Studios. Following the micro-thriller’s staggering, unprecedented $300 million global theatrical sprint on a sub-$1 million capital investment, Hollywood’s most powerful suites are aggressively looking to lock down its central force.

In an extensive profile published today by NYLON, 25-year-old breakout star Inde Navarrette (Superman & Lois) unmasked her sudden, dizzying transition from streaming and dog-walking to sitting in a high-stake meetings with X-Men director Jake Schreier.

In the two months since Obsession’s release, she’s ‘100%’ seen a change in the types of auditions she’s getting,” NYLON’s Lauren McCarthy writes. Navarrette listed her long-term dream directors, confirming she has recently sat down for formal meetings with Michael Mann, Ryan Coogler, Greta Gerwig, and Schreier. When asked point-blank if she would formally accept a direct invitation into a major Marvel franchise block, Navarrette gave an uncompromising answer: “I would.”

General exploratory meetings are standard procedure for Kevin Feige’s studio ecosystem when a massive breakout occurs. Because the live-action X-Men reboot is operating in its early screenwriting parameters, Schreier’s meeting functions as a foundational step to build an institutional relationship before formal character sheets slide down the wire.

With that in mind, it’s far too early to speculate on who she could be playing, though it’s always a good time to remember that Feige is a big fan of Kitty Pryde.
