    Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll Left Out of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

    As the exciting news that Jon Bernthal is set to join Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the jump from the Netflix Defenders-verse to the MCU, comes the devastating news that Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll, who starred as Foggy Nelson and Karen Page in the Defenders-verse shows, will not be part of the MCU. As production gets underway on Daredevil: Born Again, THR reports that Henson and Woll were not brought on board for the new series.

    As the THR report points out, it is unclear if the characters of Foggy and Karen will be recast with different talent or if the characters are simply not part of the plan for the 18-episode Disney Plus streaming series.

    Jon Bernthal Back as Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again

    Jon Bernthal‘s performance as a tortured Frank Castle was one of the highlights of Netflix’s Defenders-verse. Over 1 season of Daredevil and 2 seasons of The Punisher, Berthanl brought the controversial character to life and now fans will get more as he’s set to return as the character in Daredevil: Born Again.

    Bernthal joins stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onoforio as talent that has made the jump from the popular Netflix series to the MCU. Marvel Studios has given no indication that Daredevil: Born Again will pick up where the Netflix series left off and Cox has continuously referred to the new series as “a whole new deal.” Whatever the case, it would seem that Bernthal’s interpretation of the character may have to change a bit to fit the more family-friendly tone of Marvel Studios Disney Plus series.

    Daredevil: Born Again, an 18-eisode series, is in production now and slated for release sometime in 2024.

    Kevin Feige Says ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Will Have More Standalone Episodes

    It’s no secret that one of Netflix’s biggest selling points is the binge format it popularized wherein audiences get to watch full seasons of their favorite show in one weekend instead of waiting for it spread over several weeks. The format has allowed filmmakers behind the shows to get creative with their pacing and storytelling.

    For the Marvel-Netflix shows, this meant packaging their content in a prestige serialized format where seasons functioned as lengthy movies where cliffhangers bookended episodes. It didn’t always work out for them as criticism over pacing and episode count was constantly lobbied whenever a season would premiere. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige addressed Marvel Studios’ desire to do the opposite of what Marvel-Netflix did saying:

    Yes. I mean, cliffhangers are great, and I like watching a show where you should go to bed, but you see the cliffhanger and you just have to watch the next episode. You certainly want to keep people engaged. But I’m a big Star Trek fan, and I still find it soothing to watch an episode of Next Gen with a beginning and an end. So, I think we’re going to keep experimenting with that going forward.

    When the conversation inevitably shifts toward Daredevil: Born Again, Feige shares his excitement in experimenting with the aforementioned episodic standalone format of storytelling.

    It’s Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, and they’re amazing actors and storytellers in their own right. That’s sort of what I was talking about with the fun of episodic television: That’s really where we’re experimenting with that, with Daredevil in particular.

    Given the whopping 18-episode length of Born Again, it makes complete sense for Marvel Studios to pace out the season in a reasonable manner. If Andor was any indication of how future Disney+ shows can handle longer seasons (by clustering storylines into 2-3 episodes), Born Again should be in a good spot.

    REPORT: ‘Daredevil’s Disney+ Series Adds ‘Arrowverse’ Writers and Former Lawyers

    It looks like Marvel Studios is pushing forward quickly, as they are ramping up on one of their most ambitious Disney+ series yet. Daredevil: Born Again will be the longest Disney+ series with 18 episodes and their first attempt at living in the shadow of a previous adaptation with returning actors. Now, we may have a better idea of what they may have planned for the series with som newly revealed writers.

    Daredevil‘s Disney+ series may have added some former lawyers to its cast with David Feige, who was a public defender in New York City but also went on to work on series like Raising the Bar or The Firm. Former attorney Thomas Wong also joins after working on Bull and Michael Weatherly. Queens prosecutor Zachary Reiter has also joined, who worked with Feige on The Firm as well as on Law & Order: Organized Crime

    She-Hulk, Attorney at Law also relied on former lawyer Charles Soule to offer some insight into how to bring the legal comedy to life. That isn’t all, as the report also points to former Arrowverse writers having joined the production with Jill Blankenship and Grainne Godfree. Blankenship was a showrunner on Naomi but also worked on a variety of Arrow episodes while Godfree was involved with The Flash, Arrow, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

    The addition of Arrow writers is definitely interesting, as this extensive writers’ room may hint at a very grounded and legal-heavy drama. It would match why the show has up to 18 episodes. They join showrunners Matt Corman and Chris Ord, who have the challenging task of bringing back the iconic franchise while adding their own spin to it.

    ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’s Matt Murdock Gets a New Funko

    Spider-Man: No Way Home was a major release back in 2020, as it not only brought back one of Marvel’s most iconic characters to the silver screen but also acted as a gateway into the multiverse storyline of the new Marvel Cinematic Universe saga. Yet, the film managed to be so much more than that with some great performances from the MCU characters and those that made their grand return from past entries of the many iterations this franchise has seen.

    Somehow, in a film with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, it does seem like the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock stole the show. Not only was it the first time the actor made his cinematic appearance but it also finally added some weight to the Netflix series happening. It seems the character is going to make a return ahead of his new Disney+ series, as a new Funko has been unveiled for the character inspired by his look in the film.

    Matt Murdock always had a signature style and it’s great to see the love put into bringing his Funko to life. It’s not the first one from Cox‘s version of the character but it’s still something fans will definitely want to get their hands on. It’s also interesting that a whole line of new figurines is coming out from Spider-Man: No Way Home, especially for those that haven’t gotten one due to Sony trying its best to stay tight-lipped on their appearance in the film. The Funko is a limited edition over at Entertainment Earth so get it while its hot.

    As Marvel Studios moves into Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the most anticipated projects comes in the form of Daredevil: Born Again. The Disney+ series will see the return of Charlie Cox into the titular role following his stint as the character on Netflix. While the title of Born Again can lead to the conclusion that the series will be based on the dark and brooding comic series of the same name, Cox has seemingly confirmed that the new series will be taking different inspiration.

    I don’t think anyone should read into the name as to the kind of stories that we’re going to tell.

    Instead of being an adaptation of the specific comic series, the new show’s title appears to be more of an emblematic use of a new era away from Marvel Television’s Netflix regime. The concept of not basing the new series around the seminal Frank Miller comic run is intriguing in the sense that it could lead to a fresh take on Daredevil that isn’t intrinsically tied to darker themes. His guest appearance on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law proved that Cox has the range to portray Matthew Murdock in the more vibrant atmosphere of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

    Meanwhile, Cox continued to provide elaboration on if the version of Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that of the Netflix series (which has dubious ties to the former’s canon). While the actor himself isn’t 100% on its status, he’s set on playing Matthew Murdock as if it’s the same.

    I don’t think it’s a different character. I just think it’s maybe a different period of his life. I don’t think my interpretation will change — they hired the same actor.

    Expect More Courtroom Scenes in Daredevil’s Disney+ Series

    Marvel Studios is about to tackle their first Netflix sequel in Daredevil: Born Again. The Disney+ series is set to bring back Charlie Cox in the title role of Matt Murdock, who has een slowly making his grand return ever since a small came in laster year’s Spider-Man. No Way Home. We even got a little taste of Murdock back in court during his brief appearce in She-Hulk, Attorney at Law. With Daredevil: Born Again set to have the most numbers of episodes for a Marvel-produced Disney+ series, it seems we’ll be spending a lot more time in court.

    In an interview with GQ Magazine to promote his new Netflix series Treason, the star also got a chance to share his excitement for the future of Daredevil. He’s been very vocal of his love for the character and it would be an understatement to say that his return was welomced with big arms by everyone involved and those that first witnessed his return in theaters. In the interview, he got a chance to share that we’ll see al ot more of Murdock in the courtoom.

    I think because of the number of episodes they’ve committed to, there’ll be a heavy influence of courtroom stuff—Matt Murdock, the lawyer in the new show. So I’m heavily focused on researching that area of this character and his life. It was one of the areas we didn’t do a huge amount of exploration around before. Even my accent is probably really rusty.

    In the same interview, the actor shares his overall excitement about returning to the role and even going out of his way to re-read most of the comics. He’s been a big fan and he does say that he might be a bit rusty. So, he has to get “back into shape for a role like that” but going by what he provided so far, he is definitely going to be back in action the moment he walks on set.

    Daredevil Will Not Appear in ‘Deadpool 3’

    It would seem audiences will have to wait a little longer for the Man Without Fear to meet the Merc With a Mouth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Earlier this month, during a guest spot at German Comic-Con in Dortmund, Daredevil star Charlie Cox stated he’d love to see his character appear in the next Deadpool film, which is currently set to feature Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprising their iconic roles in a wild, time-hopping adventure. The actor explained that, with the darker nature of his upcoming solo series Daredevil: Born Again, he felt that a cross-over with the Deadpool franchise would be both fun and possible. Unfortunately, though, a recent interview with TechRadar has thrown some cold water on fans’ hopes that this might actually come to fruition.

    When asked about his previous comments, Cox decided to set the record straight. He had only been pondering possibilities, and as of now, he’s “definitely” not in Deadpool 3:

    Oh god, what did I say again? Oh yeah, I said that in Germany, didn’t I? I can tell you now, I’m definitely not in Deadpool 3.

    Cox made his MCU debut as Matt Murdock last year, making an important cameo as the lawyer of Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He reappeared not long after in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney+, acting as a courtroom rival and part-time lover of Tatiana Maslany‘s Jennifer Walters, and wearing the Daredevil suit into action for the first time since the original Daredevil series ended its run in 2018. Now, fans are rabid to know who they might see him team up with next. Daredevil and Deadpool have a history of interacting in the comics, but it looks like a live-action adaptation of their complicated relationship is not currently in the cards at Marvel Studios.

    Charlie Cox Has Disappointing News for Fans of Netflix’s Broody, Bloody ‘Daredevil’

    Charlie Cox couldn’t be more excited about continuing to portray Matt Murdock and Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After bringing the dual personalities to life in 2015 on the Netflix streaming series Daredevil, which was canceled after 3 seasons, Cox was given new life as the character when Marvel Studios One Above All, Kevin Feige, reached out ahead of production on 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

    “Kevin Feige called and said, ‘We’d like to bring you into the MCU’”, said Cox of the fateful call in an interview with NME. “I was over the moon,” said the star. “I love this character.” That call ended with Cox agreeing to cameos in No Way Home and the 2022 streaming series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Beyond that, Cox’s future as the character was undefined. That’s all changed now as Cox is scheduled for a fairly large role in the Disney Plus streaming series Echo ahead of starring alongside Vincent D’Onofrio in the 18-episode streamer, Daredevil: Born Again.

    Cox’s appearance in She-Hulk, where he played the character as “quick-witted and funny and charismatic and carefree at times“, according to Cox, probably isn’t the template for the character going forward. Cox knows that fans of Netflix’s Daredevil loved the brooding, bloody and brutal tone of the show, but he also knows this new series is headed for Disney Plus. “My opinion is this character works best when he’s geared toward a slightly more mature audience,” said Cox, while cautioning, “my instinct is that on Disney+ it will be dark but it probably won’t be as gory.” So what exactly is Daredevil: Born Again going to shape up to be?

    Cox has gone on record before, calling Daredevil: Born Again a “whole new deal“, a sentiment he reiterated to NME. “This has to be a reincarnation,” said Cox of Born Again. “It has to be different, otherwise why are we doing it?” So what should the fans who fell in love with the iteration of the character whose story was told over 3 seasons on Netflix? “I would say to those people, we’ve done that. Let’s take the things that really worked, but can we broaden? Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?”

    That’s not exactly encouraging news for fans of the TV-MA version of the character; however, it’s consistent with what Cox has been saying all along.

    Sandrine Holt Could Be Playing One of Wolverine’s Shadiest Associates in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

    The cast of Daredevil: Born Again is rounding out fairly quickly as business in Hollywood gets close to wrapping up for 2022. Over the past week, four major additions have been made to the cast. One of the latest additions to the cast was 24 and House of Cards alumn Sandrine Holt, who was cast to play a South Asian character in the series. Trade reports of her casting indicated she may be a possible love interest for one of the series leads (Charlie Cox or Vincent D’Onofrio) and while that may be the case, her character will be formidable in the series and Holt’s contract seems to include options for her to appear in other MCU projects. While the internet went wild theorizing who Holt might be, most of the guesses were drawn from a pretty shallow pool of characters who are well associated with Daredevil or Kingpin. However, given the scope of Daredevil: Born Again, it’s possible that Holt might be playing someone from outside Hell’s Kitchen. In fact, she might be playing someone who’s as far from Hell’s Kitchen as it gets.

    Over the course of its 18-episode season, Daredevil: Born Again is rumored to eventually find Wilson Fisk running for Mayor of New York City. That’s a pretty tall order for a guy who was working out of a garage and running the Tracksuit Mafia before being shot in the face in the season finale of Hawkeye. Part of Fisk’s arc to becoming Mayor of NYC may take place in Echo, which is rumored to feature another gang known as the Black Knife Cartel, but fans should expect most of that arc to take place in Born Again. Whatever the case with Fisk, he certainly can’t be running for Mayor while most of income can be traced to organized crime. Even the Kingpin might need to clean some of that money to look legit and in the MCU, there’s one place where that kind of business gets done on the daily: Madripoor.

    First visited in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Madripoor is a criminal safehaven located in Southeast Asia where, for the most part, anything goes. Run by Sharon Carter, aka the Power Broker, Madripoor has plenty of crime, organized and otherwise, and was shown to be big into cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency has become the modern hub for money laundering and in the MCU, it wouldn’t be hard to believe that Madripoor could be the hub for laundering. Should Kingpin be in the market for such a racket, one particular character who is a major player on the island nation in the comics comes to mind quickly.

    Jessán Hoan is exactly the kind of criminal Wilson Fisk might find himself turning to in order to clean a boatload of money quickly. A financial genius who once worked at her family’s major international bank, Hoan wound up in Madripoor where she quickly rose up the ranks, ultimately becoming the island’s overlord: the Queenpin of Madripoor. Better known as Tyger Tiger, Hoan is a known associate of Wolverine, or Patch as he calls himself on the island, and owns the Princess Bar that he so loved to frequent. Ruthless and brilliant, Tyger Tiger is just the type of associate Fisk would seek out.

    Is Holt Playing Tyger Tiger?

    It is certainly one option, but given the lack of information on the character, it’s impossible to tell. Given there’s only one South Asian location that’s currently established within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that Holt is playing a South Asian character, there’s at least one potential link to Tyger Tiger. The character is also described as “confident”, “knowledgable” and willing to say what’s on her mind. Those descriptors all certainly match the comic’s presentation of Tyger Tiger. While there’s no comic book history between Tyger Tiger and Kingpin, the MCU isn’t exactly known for keeping to the pages of the comics these days. Madripoor exists. It’s the kind of place a guy like Fisk would certainly know about and depending on how they wish to film it, Fisk might not even have to visit The Princess Bar: Tyger Tiger could visit him in NYC. A return trip to Madripoor and a look around the Princess Bar would be pretty fantastic, though, and could easily be done while filming in New York City.

    As is always the case when guessing at the identity of an unknown character, it’s more likely Holt is anyone else other than Tyger Tiger; however, Tyger Tiger is one intriguing option for Sandrine Holt, who is likely to return to the MCU down the line.
