  • James Gunn is in Talks for At Least One More DC Movie

James Gunn is in Talks for At Least One More DC Movie

Following the success of The Suicide Squad and its television spinoff, Peacemaker, director James Gunn looks ready to get back to work on another DC project. The Hollywood Reporter had exclusively revealed that Gunn is currently in talks, alongside producer Peter Safran, on a mystery DC movie that Gunn would tackle. The outlet notes, however, that Gunn might actually be developing two different projects with Warner Bros. Discovery and DC.

Gunn will, of course, prioritize the second season of Peacemaker first and foremost. However, with the studio seeming to be keen on developing a Superman project, that could always be a possibility for Gunn. Per THR, Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie was initially on the studio’s wishlist for a Superman film, but with McQuarrie being incredibly busy with the next two installments of that franchise, it leaves the character and the project wide open.

Whatever project — or projects — Gunn is working on remains to be seen, but the director seems eager to stay within the DC universe.

  • ‘Black Adam’ Writers on Bringing Lesser-Known DC Characters to the Big Screen

‘Black Adam’ Writers on Bringing Lesser-Known DC Characters to the Big Screen

After being attached to the role for over a decade, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is finally set to debut as Black Adam in the character’s solo film later this month. The film will serve as an introduction to lesser-known characters like Doctor Fate, Cyclone, Atom Smasher and Hawkman. For the film’s writers, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, it didn’t matter whether or not these characters were well known – they simply wanted to introduce “great” characters on screen.

While walking the film’s red carpet on Wednesday, Haines explained that introducing these characters was a collaborative effort. As he explains, it isn’t only about their screenplay, but it also comes down to the studio and the director sharing their vision for these characters.

We think about these characters as, “Hey, here’s some great characters that hopefully an audience will enjoy. And of course we’re working with the studio and with Jaume, the director, and, of course, DJ, who is also super entrenched in this material, so really it’s a collaborative effort.

    Rory Haines

While Haines noted the collaborative effort it took to really create these characters on screen, Noshirvani noted that the duo wasn’t really concerned with using well-known characters. Instead, it was all about taking characters they felt were generally great characters as they felt the audience would connect with them more.

At the end of it, we’re not worried about how well-known they are, we just want to make sure they’re great characters first. Cause if they’re great characters, the fans will connect with them.

Black Adam is set to hit theaters on Oct. 21st. It is currently on track to earn between $70 million and $75 million.

  • Susan Sarandon Joins ‘Blue Beetle’ As Main Villain

Susan Sarandon Joins ‘Blue Beetle’ As Main Villain

One of the most exciting upcoming film’s set within the DC Extended Universe is Blue Beetle. The film will see the debut of Xolo Mariduena as Jaime Reyes in Blue Beetle. The film will follow Mariduena as a teen superhero who comes into possession of a alien scarab that attaches itself to his back and enables him the abhility to summon an exoskeleton suit and array of weapons. Plot details on the film are scarce, but it seems the project has found a new face for its foe.

A new report from The Wrap states that Susan Sarandon is set to join the cast of Blue Beetle in the role of Victoria Kord, an original character created for the film. She will be the main antagonist alongside Raoul Max Trujillo who is set to play the villain Carapax The Indestructible Man.

Just a few weeks back it was announced that Sharon Stone had joined the film in the very same role Sarandon now has. Stone was initially in talks for the role, but it seems things did not work out.

The film will be directed by Angel Manuel Soto with a script from Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. Mariduena will star alongside George Lopez, Harvey Guillén, Bruna Marquezine, Elpidia Carillo, Adrianna Barraza and Damián Alcázar.

Production on Blue Beetle is set to kick-off sometime this month with a release date currently set for Aug. 18th, 2023.

  • Sharon Stone Joins ’Blue Beetle’ in Villainous Role

Sharon Stone Joins ’Blue Beetle’ in Villainous Role

Sharon Stone is joining the cast of DC’s Blue Beetle.

The news comes courtesy of The Wrap, with the outlet revealing Stone will play the villainous role of Victoria Kord. Per The Wrap, Victoria Kord is a character that has been created for the film. While the character may be an original, the surname of Kord should ring a bell to fans of DC Comics as Ted Kord, a genius billionaire, was the second character to take the name Blue Beetle. The film, which is due in theaters August 18, 2023, will follow Jaimie Reyes, the third Blue Beetle, played by Xolo Mariduena.

Also joining the cast is Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayan M.C.), who plays Carapax the Indestructible Man. Carapax is an archeologist who has ties to Daniel Garrett, the first Blue Beetle, which means we have now mentioned all three Blue Beetles in this article.

Originally intended to debut on HBO Max, Blue Beetle, directed by Angel Miguel Soto, was surprisingly pulled from the service in favor of a theatrical debut.

  • ‘The Batman’ Crosses $300 Million Domestically

‘The Batman’ Crosses $300 Million Domestically

The Batman is continuing to dominate the box office.

The Caped Crusader managed to take the top spot for the third weekend in a row, bringing in an additional $36 million this weekend. This helped to push the film past $300 million stateside. More impressively, though, the film only saw a 45% percent dip over the weekend, which, of course, was helped by there being no other major releases to serve as competition.

Along with hitting $300 million domestically, the film is nearing the $600 million mark at the global box office. The Batman took in $49.1 million from international marks, which includes $12.1 million from China. The Batman should successfully cross $600 million worldwide by Monday.

  • Haley Lu Richardson on Losing Out on ‘Batgirl’

Haley Lu Richardson on Losing Out on ‘Batgirl’

Prior to Leslie Grace securing the role as Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, multiple young actresses were up for the role. One of them was Haley Lu Richardson, who has starred in titles such as Five Feet Apart and Split. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the young actress was the runner-up behind Grace for the role of Batgirl, but Richardson seems content with how things ultimately went down.

While promoting her latest film, After Yang, Richardson revealed that she received a note from J.K. Simmons after it was revealed she hadn’t gotten the role – something she feels made the whole thing worth it.

“It was exciting regardless, and I did get a nice little personal email from J.K. Simmons out of it, which was really nice. Getting the role would’ve been pretty cool, but I told myself that his email meant more to me than getting the role. So I tried, but I’m not Batgirl at the end of the day. I’m trying to think of what freaking superhero I can play now because aren’t they all done already? My dance skills, my flexibility and my athleticism need to be utilized.”

Although she didn’t get the role of Batgirl, Richardson is more than ready for Hollywood to cast her as a superhero. As she explains, she has dance skills, is flexible and is athletic. With her being a final contender, it seems likely she’ll eventually land her superhero role. After all, as we’ve seen in the past, Hollywood tends to revisit talent when it comes to casting new roles.

Batgirl, starring Leslie Grace, is now in production and is set to be an HBO Max exclusive film. No release date has been announced.

  • ‘The Batman’ Scores $128 Million Opening

‘The Batman’ Scores $128 Million Opening

The Caped Crusader has topped the box office.

The Batman has secured the second-best opening weekend behind Sony and Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: No Way Home. The latest film from Matt Reeves is looking to bring in around $128 million in its opening weekend, following a $43.2 million Saturday. Of course, as it is still early in the day, the film’s opening could rise to $130 million depending on how Sunday progresses.

The Batman marks the biggest opening for Warner Bros. during the pandemic era, as well as the best opening for Reeves, coming in above Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which opened to $73 million. More impressively, however, The Batman‘s opening weekend is currently the best domestic opening for the year. The film’s opening numbers are all the more impressive given its nearly three-hour runtime.

Regarding The Batman, Toby Emmerich, president of Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, spoke highly of Reeves and his vision for the film. “You to buy into the idea that Batman is like Hamlet. He’s such a rich character. And that the only reason to do it is if you find a different swim lane and a Batman that’s true to the DNA, but is a different interpretation,” he said in a statement to THR. “From the very beginning, Matt consciously made sure that the character and the story he was telling was different than anyone that had been told before.”

  • ‘The Batman’ Eyes $225 Million Global Launch

‘The Batman’ Eyes $225 Million Global Launch

The Caped Crusader is looking to tackle the box office.

Following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Warner Bros. and DC’s The Batman seems likely to continue the upward trajectory of the box office. Current projections for the film have The Batman looking to bring in $115 million to $125 million domestically, and another $110 million to $120 million internationally. Should these numbers hold, The Batman could see an international haul of $225 million to $245 million worldwide.

The Batman carries a $200 million production budget and marks a return to theaters for both Warner Bros. and DC. Its last superhero flicks, Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad, were released day-and-date on HBO Max. The film is also off to an impressive start in Korea, where The Batman opened to $1.7 million with previews. That’s enough to make for the best launch day during the pandemic, while also marking the second-best debut for a Batman movie since The Dark Knight Rises. Interestingly enough, it’s also an industry best in the country so far this year.

The Batman, which is directed by Matt Reeves, stars Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farrell and Paul Dano. The film was co-written by Reeves & Peter Craig and is in theaters now.

  • ‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Reveal Michael Keaton’s Batman

‘Batgirl’ Set Photos Reveal Michael Keaton’s Batman

New set photos from the production of Warner Bros.’ Batgirl are making their way around the internet, and they feature the first look at a character everyone has been waiting to see. The images appear to show Michael Keaton fully suited up as Batman, something fans haven’t seen in live-action in almost 30 full years. While it’s hard to make out any exact details on the suit’s design, the presence of the iconic yellow logo and the actor’s familiar posture would indicate the armor will at least maintain the spirit of its original appearance. Though, it seems unlikely the costume will be completely unchanged from 1992’s Batman Returns.

Keaton will reprise his role alongside up-and-comer Leslie Grace, who is set to don the cape and cowl as Batgirl in her first solo film. The project is being helmed by Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, with J.K. Simmons returning as Commissioner James Gordon and fan-favorite Doom Patrol star Brendan Fraser coming aboard as the villain Firefly. Taking place within the DC Extended Universe, the film will not be the only comic book movie featuring Keaton as Batman in the near future. Andy Muschietti‘s The Flash, which will use story elements from the well-known Flashpoint comic, is where the one-time Tim Burton muse will make his grand re-entrance as the Dark Knight.

The Flash will hit theaters on November 4, 2022, and while Batgirl does not currently have a release date, it has been announced the movie will drop straight to HBO Max before the end of 2022.

  • Leslie Grace Unveils First Look at Batgirl Costume

Leslie Grace Unveils First Look at Batgirl Costume

As production continues on Batgirl, the leading lady, Leslie Grace, has provided fans with the first look of her in costume as the titular hero.

In the image, which you can see below, the costume seems to homage Barbara’s iconic Batgirl of Burnside uniform. It’s a rather comics-accurate costume, with only minor adjustments made in its translation to live-action.

With the outpouring of set photos that have surfaced in recent days, it’s not surprising that we received our first look as the costume this early on. It’s more than likely the studio wanted an official release to be what fans saw first rather than a leaked set photo, which is often the case with superhero films.

Along with the image, Grace posted a quote from Batgirl: Year One by Scott Beatty, Chuck Dixon, Marcos MartinJavier Rodriguez , Alvaro Lopez, and Willie Schubert. “I use their expectations against them. That will be their weakness. Not mine. Let them all underestimate me… And when their guard is down, and their pride is rising, let me kick their butts.”
