  • Jim Carrey Has “Mixed Emotions” About ‘The Batman’s Riddler

Jim Carrey Has “Mixed Emotions” About ‘The Batman’s Riddler

Matt ReevesThe Batman finally hit theaters last month, and was welcomed with rave reviews. A large portion of the acclaim went to Paul Dano‘s performance as classic Batman baddie The Riddler, who was reimagined for the film as a sadistic serial killer hell bent on exposing the many crimes of Gotham’s elite.

However, not everybody is over-the-moon about the antagonist’s new portrayal, and the list of those with mixed feelings apparently includes a rather famous former Riddler himself. In a recent interview with British outlet Unilad, promoting his upcoming film Sonic the Hedgehog 2, superstar Jim Carrey revealed that the darker tone of Dano‘s villain was not exactly his cup of tea:

I’ve not seen it. It’s a very dark version. I have mixed emotions about it. To each his own and all that. I love [Paul Dano] as an actor, he’s a tremendous actor. I do worry. There’s a spot of worry in me over gaffer-taping people’s faces and encouraging people to do the same. Some sickos out there that might adopt that method…I do have a conscience about the things I choose…I know there’s a place for it, and I don’t want to criticize it, but it’s not my kind of thing…it’s very well done, those movies are very well done.

    Jim Carrey

Carrey became the third person to bring Riddler to life on screen in 1995’s Batman Forever, which starred Val Kilmer in the title role with Tommy Lee Jones as fellow rogue Two-Face. That film was infamously campy, as director Joel Schumacher took over the franchise and reintroduced some of the lighthearted goofiness of the 1960s television series.

Riddler’s plot in Forever was not to violently murder anyone, but instead to steal their intelligence with an improbable, convoluted doohickey. Though he doesn’t agree with the disturbing nature of the latest Batman film, it is nice to hear the Canadian comedian still give praise to Dano‘s acting ability and give lenience towards other’s enjoyment of the movie.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 releases in theaters on April 8th.

  • Adil El Arbi Shares New Set Photo as ‘Batgirl’ Wraps Production

Adil El Arbi Shares New Set Photo as ‘Batgirl’ Wraps Production

Director Adil El Arbi has taken to his personal Instagram account to share that the HBO Max film Batgirl has wrapped up production. He alongside Billal Fallah took on the task to bring the famous super heroine to life, as Leslie Grace takes on the titular role. There are theories that it might not release until next year due to the delay of The Flash, which was set up to reintroduce Michael Keaton as Batman into the DC Extended Universe. Still, it’s great to see that they were able to wrap up production, and even shared a new look at Grace‘s costume.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbz_D9jMQvn/?utm_medium=copy_link

Batgirl will see the young heroine face off against Firefly, a popular Batman villain that is known for his love of arson. We know very little about the plot or even if other villains may have a role of some kind. It’s even more surprising given how many photos have found their way online from the production, especially during its stay in Glasgow. Of course, there are probably enough interior shots that were done that way to avoid any potential leaks.

Grace will be joined by some veteran actors in their respective roles, most notably Michael Keaton that originally took on the role in Tim Burton‘s 1989 film. It’s uncertain if the film will build up his return through The Flash, but as it’s planned as a follow-up it can just skip to that part directly.

  • RUMOR: Villains for Adam Sztykiel’s ‘Wonder Twins’ Possibly Revealed

RUMOR: Villains for Adam Sztykiel’s ‘Wonder Twins’ Possibly Revealed

The DC Extended Universe is branching out into streaming with Peacemaker being the first of what we can assume will be many heroes to shine on HBO Max. Original films on the service are still something we’ve yet to see with titles like Batgirl and Black Canary on the way. Yet, it seems like another recently announced project is moving along faster than we anticipated.

Just a few weeks ago we learned that HBO Max had begun development on yet another original DC film, this time focusing on Zan and Jayna, who are better known as the Wonder Twins. A new report from That Hashtag Show has revealed some new mystery characters who are listed to be the antagonist of the film.

One of the villains is named Kenzie, as the studio is searching for an Australian female over the age of 18 years of age. The character is described as being a bit crazy, and having a few screws loose. She is super determined to be best friends with Jayna and has a massive crush on Zan. The other two villains are another set of twins named Pils and Vinka who are being compared to the Grady Twins from The Shining. The two of them walk and talk in unison and are on a mission to kill the Wonder Twins.

Surprisingly the film is currently set to begin production on July 5th, 2022 which is quite quick considering how recently the film was announced. Black Adam writer Adam Sztykiel is set to write and direct the film. No casting announcements have been made but we can assume they’re more than likely coming soon.

  • Chris Pine on a Potential Return in ‘Wonder Woman 3’

Chris Pine on a Potential Return in ‘Wonder Woman 3’

In 2017, Patty Jenkins gave the world our first real full-fledged move all about Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot took on the titular role and her character would make her way to the world of man alongside Steve Trevor. Chris Pine took on the role of the World War 1 pilot that would fall for the Amazonian half-goddess. Sadly, their love ended in tragedy when he sacrificed himself. Yet, a misguided wish saw his return in the body of another even as she once again had to bid farewell. With a third film on the horizon, Pine was asked about a potential return in the upcoming third entry where he got a rather straight-forward.

I think poor Steve is dead, but I wish them all the best on the third one.

    Chris Pine

It makes sense, especially with Diana Prince making the step to finally letting go during Wonder Woman 1984. It would be step back for her character development to find a way for him to return, or even just him randomly popping up out of nowhere. Though, perhaps she gets one final goodbye in some kind of major crossover event that restarts the DCEU, or we explore a different dimension where he survived. But, Wonder Woman 3 will likely focus on closing out the story that started in 2017.

  • RUMOR: Early ‘The Flash’ Test Screenings May Hint at Henry Cavill’s Future as Superman

RUMOR: Early ‘The Flash’ Test Screenings May Hint at Henry Cavill’s Future as Superman

There have been many discussions on what the future has in store for the DC Extended Universe, most notably Henry Cavill‘s time as Superman. As he seemingly is building up one new franchise after another, it sadly didn’t help matter son if we might see him return. The upcoming multiverse film The Flash seemingly hinted at a connection between him and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl with her new design, but it seemed safe to say they’d reboot the franchise with the event.

Sadly, the upcoming project might be the final nail in the coffin for Cavill‘s tenure as the Man of Steel. Even though his run as the character back in 2013 set up the current version of the DCEU, a recent test screening of The Flash may have given us more details. Geeks Worldwide’s KC Walsh shared that the recent screening has hhighlighted that he is done with the franchise. Yet, as he points out, there’s always the possibility it might change but given how little involved he’s been with any of the projects, it seems likely.

The latest Superman film that is in development was going to move away from Clark Kent to focus on Val Zod. We’ve also gotten rumors making the rounds that Supergirl and Batgirl would become part of the DCEU’s new trinity as the franchise continues to expand. Ben Affleck has openly left his role as Batman behind with Michael Keaton returning in The Flash and Robert Pattinson playing him in a separate universe for The Batman. So, it sadly isn’t really that much of a surprise that Cavill is also done as he focuses on his various Netflix projects.

  • Sharon Stone Joins ’Blue Beetle’ in Villainous Role

Sharon Stone Joins ’Blue Beetle’ in Villainous Role

Sharon Stone is joining the cast of DC’s Blue Beetle.

The news comes courtesy of The Wrap, with the outlet revealing Stone will play the villainous role of Victoria Kord. Per The Wrap, Victoria Kord is a character that has been created for the film. While the character may be an original, the surname of Kord should ring a bell to fans of DC Comics as Ted Kord, a genius billionaire, was the second character to take the name Blue Beetle. The film, which is due in theaters August 18, 2023, will follow Jaimie Reyes, the third Blue Beetle, played by Xolo Mariduena.

Also joining the cast is Raoul Max Trujillo (Mayan M.C.), who plays Carapax the Indestructible Man. Carapax is an archeologist who has ties to Daniel Garrett, the first Blue Beetle, which means we have now mentioned all three Blue Beetles in this article.

Originally intended to debut on HBO Max, Blue Beetle, directed by Angel Miguel Soto, was surprisingly pulled from the service in favor of a theatrical debut.

  • New ‘Black Adam’ Merch Offers First Look at a New Costume

New ‘Black Adam’ Merch Offers First Look at a New Costume

Just a few weeks ago, the state of the DC Extended Universe saw quite another shake-up with multiple films on the slate being delayed and moved up. Black Adam was one of those films, with its July debut getting hit with a three-month delay so that VFX could be properly completed. We’ve seen very little from the film so far, but it looks like some merchandise for the film has begun to trickle out.

Every year Hallmark releases a catalog of all upcoming holiday ornaments with tentative release dates, usually featuring decorative items from the year’s biggest movies and shows. Some pages from this year seem to have made their way online, featuring a brand new look at Black Adam in what seems to be an updated suit from what we have previously seen. The suit, while similar to the one featured a few weeks back, is updated with golden boots, bracers, and a belt, a much more vibrant and even closer to accurate look for the character. The ornament will hit shelves in November, just a few weeks after the film’s release.

The suit previously seen was much dirtier and looked to have wear and tear over the years Adam presumably spent imprisoned. It’ll be interesting to see how the suit changes over the course of the film, from ancient Kahndaq to the modern-day. Fans are gonna have to wait just a little longer to witness the hierarchy of power within the DC Universe change as Black Adam is now set to hit theaters on October 21st, 2022.

  • RUMOR: ‘Blue Beetle’ Will Feature Carapax and an Original Foe

RUMOR: ‘Blue Beetle’ Will Feature Carapax and an Original Foe

The DC Extended Universe is about to get a little bit bigger with the arrival of Jaime Reyes, aka the Blue Beetle. Fans are eager to see the third and most popular iteration of the character make his big-screen debut next year. Sadly, we still don’t know a ton regarding the plot of the project. Details on just who Jaime will face in the film are still scarce, but a new rumor may hint at a rather unknown foe.

The Cosmic Circus is reporting that the DC villain Carapax will be making his live-action debut in the film alongside what seems to be an original character named Victoria Kord. Of course, that name would seem familiar as that is the last name of Ted Kord, mentor to Jaime Reyes, and the second person to don the mantle of Blue Beetle. Victora Kord reportedly also has connections to Bruna Marquezine’s character, who is only known as Jenny.

Conrad Carapax was an archeologist and rival of Daniel Garret, the first Blue Beetle. He traveled to Pago Island where he found the remains of a lab that once belonged to Jarvis Kord, the uncle of Ted Kord. He was killed when trying to activate a robot but ended up fusing his mind with it. Victoria could possibly have some sort of link to Jarvis, or maybe be a gender-bent version of the character. Jarvis spent his time on the island-building robot he intended to use to take over the world. Victoria being in an antagonist role alongside Carapax could hint at this change.

Blue Beetle is set to hit theaters on August 18th, 2023.

  • First Full Look at Barry Keoghan’s Joker Revealed in Newly Released ‘The Batman’ Footage

First Full Look at Barry Keoghan’s Joker Revealed in Newly Released ‘The Batman’ Footage

The Batman hit theaters just a few weeks ago and made waves amongst the community, some heralding it as the definitive Batman film. Towards the end of the film, we saw a bit of setup for the future of the franchise, with a mysterious prisoner in Arkham locked up alongside Riddler, who upon speaking was revealed to be the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker.

Matt Reeves has shared a new look at Keoghan in full prosthetics, locked up in Arkham asylum and seemingly being interrogated by Batman. We only get a look at the character from the back, but it seems to be somewhat burned with minimal hair. The design looks somewhat like Cameron Monaghan Joker that was featured on Gotham.

That’s not all, as one of the long-rumored scenes that didn’t make it into the film has also been shared.

In a closer look at the character, we get to see the Joker’s full face, featuring the permanent smile that Reeves revealed following the film’s release. This Joker has already found himself a home in Arkham, presumably running into the Bat during Bruce’s first active year on the Gotham project. It would be interesting to see if the character shares a similar origin to what was alluded to in The Killing Joke storyline as he does seem to have some sort of burns on his skin, but it’s hard to miss that smile.

We have yet to hear any official word on a sequel to The Batman but as fans and critics praise it with the box office haul passing $600 million, it seems inevitable.

  • ‘Moon Knight’s Mohamed Diab Shares His Thoughts on ‘Wonder Woman 1984’s Portrayal of Egypt

‘Moon Knight’s Mohamed Diab Shares His Thoughts on ‘Wonder Woman 1984’s Portrayal of Egypt

The Egyptian director Mohamed Diab has been quite vocal in his thoughts about how other productions have depicted his home country. While he’s about to make his Hollywood premiere with the Disney+ series Moon Knight, he has been openly discussing his thoughts on other projects during the press tour. He first shared his thoughts on Black Adam‘s and now has gone on to share his thoughts on the sequence in another DC project, Wonder Woman 1984. The director had the following to say on how his country is portrayed in the film:

I remember seeing Wonder Woman 1984 and there was a big sequence in Egypt and it was a disgrace for us. You had a sheik – that doesn’t make any sense to us. Egypt looked like a country from the Middle Ages. It looked like the desert.

    Mohamed Diab

When the film was released, there was already quite a stir regarding the racist depiction of Egypt. Not only did it seem to mostly focus on stereotypical takes on the people from that nation, but even went as far as to portray the 80s version of Egypt in a questionable way. It makes sense for the director to share that sentiment, which has sparked quite the controversy quite some time ago.
