    Matt Reeves ‘BATMAN’ Trilogy To Introduce New Joker

    According to a report from The Direct via insider Daniel RPK, Matt Reeves‘ planned Batman trilogy will introduce its own, unique version of the Joker to square off with Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight! The report indicates that Reeves will tease the character in 2021’s The Batman before bringing the latest Jester or Genocide into play in the second and third films.

    Should the report hold true, we would be seeing the fifth version of the Joker on the big screen and the third version in, presumably, less than a decade. Jack Nicholson’s Joker was the first to hit the stage in 1989’s Batman, followed by Heath Ledger‘s legendary performance in 2008’s The Dark Knight. More recently, Jared Leto‘s Joker was more of a a joke in 2016’s Suicide Squad and Joaquin Phoenix took an entirely different turn as a plodding, down-on-his-luck schmuck who had bad day in 2019’s Joker. Given the look of Reeves’ new series, it seems his Joker is more likely to follow his own path than to take inspiration from either of the latest incarnations

    While a third Joker in 5-7 years may seem like a lot, I’m firmly in the camp that Batman can’t be fully realized without the Joker. While I’m eager to see new interpretations of the Penguin, the Riddler and Catwoman, it’s the Joker that has driven the majority of the great Batman arcs in the comics. Of course I’m also firmly in the camp that you can’t have a fully realized Batman without Dick Grayson, but so far there’s no sign of the Boy Wonder getting another shot to shine in this new adaptation.

    The Batman is set to hit theaters in 2021 and, apparently, spawn a trilogy of films that will span the first half of the decade.

  • Dwayne Johnson’s ‘BLACK ADAM’ Confirmed to Introduce Hawkgirl

    DC Entertainment’s Black Adam will mark the big screen debut of the Justice Society of America, a team that I can confirm will include Hawkgirl. The studio is casting for an actress, 20-30 years old, for the role in the film which will begin production in July of 2020.

    As I first reported in March, Black Adam will feature JSA members Hawkman, Atom Smasher and Stargirl. It was later reported that Doctor Fate and Isis will also be in the film, a report I can also confirm. However, many fans were left to speculate whether or not we’d also see some iteration of Hawkman’s ever present partner, Hawkgirl and now that speculation can be set to rest.

    The studio continues the search for for actors to fill the lead roles of Hawkman and Isis, as well as the supporting roles of Stargirl, Atom Smasher, Doctor Fate and, now, Hawkgirl. With the film expected to generate potential spinoff films for either the individual characters and/or the JSA, the studio is being patient as the potential cast members could very well lead their own franchises one day.

    Black Adam, which is expected in theaters on December 22, 2021, tells the story of a “champion turned villain whose quest for dominance over all magic drives him to destroy anything that stands in his path.”

  • ‘SHAZAM!’ 2 Set for 2022

    Shazam! was one of the most surprising comic book films of the year. It’s successful opening weekend led to the immediate announcement of a sequel, set to be written Henry Gayden, and now we have a date as Warner Bros. announced today that the sequel will hit theaters on April 1, 2022.

    Details about the film are scarce, but it is expected to see most of the cast of the original return, possibly to take on Mister Mind who was seen plotting at the end of the last film.

    Shazam! 2 will join The Flash (July 1st) and Aquaman 2 (December 16th) on Warner Media’s 2022 release slate.

  • ‘THE FLASH’ Solo Film Gets a New 2022 Release Date

    Warner Media revealed that its long gestating Flash solo film is now set to hit theaters on July 1, 2022.

    The film, which will see Ezra Miller returning as the lead character, was originally scheduled to be released in 2018. However, following the entrance and departure of several different combinations of creative teams and a reshuffling atop the company, the film took a back seat. Earlier this year, Grant Morrison was hired to work on a new script along with Miller.

    EXCLUSIVE: New ‘BLACK ADAM’ Script Features Hawkman, Atom Smasher and Stargirl

    In 2014, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment made headlines with the announcement that Dwayne Johnson had signed on to star as the titular character in a solo Black Adam film. Nearly four and a half years later, we’ve still yet to see Johnson suit up as the DC Comics antihero, with the studio passing on what seemed like sure fire appearance in Shazam, but it seems that things might be looking up on that front.

    Late last month, scribe Adam Szytkiel, who was brought on by New Line back in 2017 to pen the Johnson vehicle, turned in an updated draft of the script which is sure to please fans of DC Comics. Szytkiel’s script seems to be taking some cues from Geoff Johns’ early 2000’s work with the character and sets up a battle of heavyweights as it pits Hawkman against the protector of Khandaq!

    The studio will be looking to cast an actor, 30-39, to take on the role of Carter Hall with an emphasis on landing someone the audience can believe could go toe-to-toe with the Brahma Bull!

    The script also features Adam’s fellow JSA members Atom Smasher and Stargirl, the two of whom have often been depicted to be in a relationship in the comics. The studio will be searching for talent, 20-29, to play the duo.

    While plot details are being kept under wraps, the addition of Hawkman to the film could certainly indicate that the studios is at least entertaining the thought of pushing the envelope on the amount of violence we’ll be seeing on screen. In a 2018 interview, producer Hiram Garcia stated that the film was not going to be “softened up” for audiences and the inclusion of Hawkman would seem to indicate that they’re standing by that claim.

    Black Adam is tentatively set for a March 2020 start of production and is currently searching for a director.
