RUMOR: Ezra Bridger Will Receive ‘Ahsoka’ Spin-Off Series

The Star Wars universe continues to grow, and if rumors are true, a fan favorite character will be front and center for the expansion. It was revealed last month that Eman Esfandi would bring Ezra Bridger, the beloved protagonist of Disney XD’s animated Star Wars: Rebels, to life in the upcoming live-action Disney+ series Ahsoka. Now, it would seem Esfandi will be around for more than just the Rosario Dawson-starring project, as a new rumor suggests he will receive his own solo series after Ahsoka’s conclusion. The report comes from industry insider Daniel RPK, who claims the actor is already signed on to headline his own show in the coming years.

RPK dropped the disclaimer that he’s unsure whether the Bridger series would be a direct sequel to Rebels or something entirely different. The last fans saw of the character, he was sacrificing himself to bring down Lars Mikkelsen’s Grand Admiral Thrawn and a large portion of the Galactic Empire. Voiced by Taylor Gray in the animated show, Ezra was thrust into parts unknown, alongside Thrawn, with his future left as a giant question mark for viewers and his loyal companions. Ahsoka promises to give an answer to that mystery, but it’s possible Ezra’s journey remains incomplete by the time the final episode airs. An Ezra solo project could then, hypothetically, act as the final installment in a trilogy of shows about the character and his Ghost crew.

It’s important to remember this is only a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt. However, that doesn’t mean it’s not a fun concept to fantasize about. Fans will be able to learn the truth when Ahsoka begins airing in 2023.

  • ‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ Has Found its Ezra Bridger

‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ Has Found its Ezra Bridger

If there’s been one casting that everyone is talking about with Ahsoka it is whoever may end up playing Ezra Bridger. The popular Jedi padawan was first introduced in the animated series Star Wars Rebels and when first hints with Ahsoka’s arrival in The Mandalorian hinted at a continuation of where that series left off, it seemed obvious he’d make his eventual live-action premiere as well. Now, it seems we finally know.

While we got a tease of Ezra in Ahsoka back during Star Wars Celebration, it was still the one casting that has never been confirmed. As it turns out, we just had to wait until just ahead of D23 for the confirmation Eman Esfandi will take on the role of Ezra Bridger in the live-action spinoff heading to Disney+.

He joins a stacked cast that already consists of Rosario Dawson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ivanna Sakhno, Ray Stevenson, Hayden Christensen, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo. We’ll see what the project will look like and how it will potentially tie in all open points in regards to Star Wars Rebels, as well as set up a future for these characters in this new post-The Mandalorian universe.

  • RUMOR: Mena Massoud is the Front Runner to Play Live-Action Ezra Bidger

RUMOR: Mena Massoud is the Front Runner to Play Live-Action Ezra Bidger

Kessel Run Transmissions report has been released that places Aladdin‘s Mena Massoud as the main choice to play Star Wars Rebels‘ Ezra Bridger in the upcoming Ahsoka Tano live-action series. This series will continue where Ahsoka’s The Mandalorian cameo left off, with Ahsoka searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn as he is the one who may lead her to Ezra after he disappeared in the animated show’s finale. Mena Massoud has worked with Disney before in the aforementioned Aladdin, so it seems Disney should be pretty sure about their choice to play the Lothal native.

Besides Rosario Dawson who will be playing the titular character, this is the first major casting news regarding the show, one of the two The Mandalorian spin-offs, the other being Rangers of the New Republic. The show was announced during the Disney Investor Day on December 10, 2020, and will be developed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. If they are already casting the show’s main characters, it could be a sign that they are already eyeing a production start. Star Wars may try to replicate Marvel Studios’ formula of releasing a new show so that most of the year is filled with content. We could also see them switch between each show to better spread it out throughout the year. Either way, Massoud would be an amazing choice to play the iconic character from the Rebels animated series. It could also be a clue that we might get some casting information on Admiral Thrawn in the coming months.
