    ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s Heading for Record-Breaking $68M Opening

    Some might be wondering what makes an opening of $68M record-breaking may have forgotten that horror films may have legs but they aren’t big openers. Five Nights at Freddy’s is the next major video game adaptation of the year that has seemingly kicked off with Thursday night previews of $10.3M. That helped catapult it to a powerful $34M Friday opening and is setting the film on a path to open at around $68M. Word-of-mouth is going to be critical especially with this being a day-and-date release on Peacock.

    That opening is higher than Halloween Kills ($49.9M) and Halloween Ends ($40M). It has now gained the biggest opening weekend for any horror release. It’s the third biggest opening for a video game adaptation; it may still dethrone Sonic the Hedgehog 2‘s $72M if word-of-mouth is strong, and it’s even the second biggest Blumhouse opening. It’s also the second largest day-and-date release since Black Widow during the peak of COVID, which opened to $80.3M.

    The film has strong Social Media coverage given how large the fandom surrounding Five Nights at Freddy’s has grown. The film is based on a video game franchise from a single person that started as his final gamble of finding a foot in the industry before it ballooned into one of the biggest horror gaming franchises based on an indie property. The film is facing the usual PostTrak exits of its genre so the weekend hold is going to be interesting moving forward.

    First Look at Blumhouse’s ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Hints at Familiar Storyline

    Five Nights at Freddy’s was a project that everyone was keeping a close eye on. It was trapped in production hell for quite some time, as creator Scott Cawthon seemingly couldn’t really find the right script for this project. Yet, that all changed when it finally started filming in February.

    Only a few months later, they confirmed that the film will already arrive later this year on October 27th. Not just that, but it’ll be a simultaneous release; something we thought forgotten in the COVID era of cinematic releases. Five Nights at Freddy’s is going to release in theaters and also streamed on Peacock for those excited to check out their favorite horror franchise in live-action.

    Not just that, we also got a first look at the series, which includes the animatronic of the iconic bear with a young child in his arm staring at the Pizza restaurant that is seemingly falling apart. Curiously though, this imagery hints that the storyline of the first entry might be quite similar to that of the recent game release Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, where a Freddy animatronic helped out a young child with the others trying to eat him.

    They definitely have some big plans for the franchise, as one of its stars, Matthew Lillard, has confirmed he’s signed on for three films. Rumors have it that he’s going to play its main antagonist, who is best known as Purple Man and they might be taking elements from multiple games and scattering them across the trilogy. With an October release, we might expect a trailer in the coming months to give us a better hint at what they have planned for us.

    YouTuber Dawko has been holding a Charity Stream in which he’s been sharing some rather curious reveals for the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, as creator Scott Cawthon has seemingly shared some details with him to build up some momentum for the new film and help the Charity Stream. In it, he not only confirmed the roles that the recently cast Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson, but also went on to share two new castings.

    The newest additions to the film are Mary Stuart Masterson. Not just that, she’s also hinted at playing an unnamed villain, which does open up the door on who exactly she could be playing. With Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach introducing the character of Vanny, they may be taking pieces from across the franchise’s history but she could also just be voicing one of the animatronics. Baby might be an interesting choice, but there’s also the chance they’ll just introduce new characters.

    She’s not the only new addition, as young actress Piper Rubio has also been added to the film’s cast, and she’ll be playing Mike’s younger sister named Abby. Now, Mike was revealed to be Hutcherson‘s role and is inspired by the gaming franchise’s nightguard. So, she’s not Elizabeth Afton and it opens up the question on if they might build up this character throughout.

    Ruh Roh Freddy, it seems that the upcoming Blumhouse adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy’s is finally moving forward. After countless delays over script issues with the creator Scott Cawthon, they are finally moving forward with the project. They have no added two starts with production set to start in New Orleans in February. Long-time Shaggy voice actor Matthew Lillard has joined alongside Josh Hutcherson, who is well known for his performances in The Hunger Games.

    They’re definitely an interesting addition and there’s no details on who exactly they might end up playing. To be fair, the FNAF franchise isn’t well-known for its cast but rather the creepy animatronics that haunt the Pizza restaurants named after Freddy Fazbear. Though, Lillard would make for a great phone guy if that staple character will make an appearance or they simply have Cawthon cameo in the role.

    Five Nights at Freddy’s is a simple concept but the lore that has build around the franchise with each new entry offers a lot. The only question is if Cawthon‘s perchance for cryptic storytelling will translate well into live-action cinema. He may try to sneak in details and build up a franchise that barely gets going if the story doesn’t hit those same emotional beats you’d expect from a film. The recent PlayStation exclusive game Security Breach faced a similar issue in trying to bring the gaming franchise into a quasi open world format.

    Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Working on Live-Action ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Movie

    It looks like the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is finally moving forward, as Blumhouse founder shared a new picture sharing that he’s actively working with Jim Henson’s Creature Shop on an upcoming project. While he doesn’t give away what exactly it is going to be, he does state that their “expertise with animatronics is absolutely killer” and a close look at the desk confirms they are already preparing the animatronics for Five Nights at Freddy’s.

    The bowtie technically gives away that it’s Freddy but we don’t know if they might mix things up with some new animatronics. The three toes and green coloring could hint at Happy Frog. There’s no real core story they can directly adapt from the games, but as it seems to be a cleaner design, we might explore the earlier days of the pizza place. Perhaps we see what it was like before the vanishing of children turned it into the horror house that it is known for in the games.

    The surprising revelation is that the project is moving forward after all. While Jason Blum teased that movement was happening in the film, it did lose its director. Chris Columbus was originally attached. There were seemingly some complications with the creator Scott Cawthon not signing off on the script, which he was involved with writing, and here’s hoping we might get an announcement soon.
