It looks like we finally have the official confirmation from Marvel Studios that the villain-focused team-up film, Thunderbolts, is heading our way. It seems that the film will be part of the studio’s next phase and is teasing a promising future direction for Marvel Studios’ creative new future. SDCC: The Ultimate Marvel Studios Hall H Panel Recap
With the return of San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios’ legendary Hall H panel was back for SDCC 2022. Back in 2019, Marvel Studios laid out the first part of the outline for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4. Now, in 2022, the mega panel closed out the day in Hall H in style with major revelations and exciting information and footage for fans. If you missed our live coverage of the event, or if you are looking for all the Marvel Studios SDCC news in one place, we’ve got you covered. This article contains a summary of the panel and hits all the newsworthy highlights.
While some wondered if Marvel Studios would truly bring major surprises to SDCC, President Kevin Feige immediately shocked fans by announcing that Phase 4 of the MCU has almost nearly already come to an end. Phase 4 officially ends with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is only months away. Phase 5, which has previously barely been discussed, is now officially set to begin with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in early 2023 and end with Thunderbolts, a newly announced title, in the summer of 2024. Not only that, but Marvel Studios released the first information about Phase 6. Phases 4 through 6 will indeed be titled, the “Multiverse Saga”, and will end in a two-part Avengers event. Phase 4
Marvel Studios made the shocking reveal that only two projects are left in Phase 4 of the MCU. Both She-Hulk and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever revealed new posters and trailers.
She-Hulk — August 17, 2022
As the next project to be released in the MCU, it comes as no surprise that Marvel Studios spent a little time on She-Hulk. Set to debut on Disney+ on August 17, the cast of the series arrived in Hall H:
A poster and final trailer for the series dropped at SDCC, which includes training montages and 4th wall breaks. It also confirms that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil will be in She-Hulk. Check it out below:
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — November 11, 2022
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was certainly one of the most predictable inclusions in Marvel Studios’ SDCC panel considering it is the MCU’s next feature film. Still, the sequel to the Academy Award-winning Black Panther closed out the Hall H presentation. Feige was joined on stage by director Ryan Coogler and cast members Mabel Cadena, Michaela Cole, Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, Tenoch Huerta, Florence Kasumba, Alex Livinalli, Lupita Nyong’o, Dominique Thorne and Letitia Wright.
Also as anticipated, SDCC brought the first trailer for Wakanda Forever:
Phase 5
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania — February 17, 2023
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, though previously announced, will now officially serve as the beginning of the MCU’s Phase 5. Peyton Reed, Kathryn Newton, Evangeline Lily, Jonathan Majors, and Paul Rudd were in attendance at SDCC, and those in Hall H were treated to some exclusive footage. The footage reportedly showed the film’s first look at Majors’ Kang the Conquerer, Bill Murray, and a confirmation that villain M.O.D.O.K. will appear in the Ant-Man threequel.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will hit theaters February 17, 2023.
Secret Invasion — Spring 2023
The upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion got some time to shine at SDCC as well, with the in-person audience getting a first look at some footage. Kevin Feige announced that Secret Invasion will hit Disney+ in the Spring of 2023. Secret Invasion will be the second project of the now-announced Phase 5, which will kick off with Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantummania. It will star Samuel L. Jackson, Emilia Clarke, and the legend known only as Talos, Ben Mendelson, as they fend off an invasion from the villainous Skrulls. It is said that Secret Invasion will feed right into The Marvels, the sequel of the billion-dollar hit Captain Marvel. Actress Cobie Smolders, who plays Maria Hill, was in attendance. The show was described as a dark thriller, and Don Cheadle’s James Rhoades aka War Machine was confirmed to be in the series.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — May 5, 2023
Director James Gunn appeared in person to tease the first footage for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for the Hall H audience. The footage reportedly included Zoe Saldana’s Gamora as a Ravager, a first look at Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock, and confirms Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji as the villain, the High Evolutionary. Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’s breakout star Maria Bakalova will be voicing Cosmo the Spacedog. The cast was reportedly very emotional after seeing the footage–check out the GotG cast below:
The film was described as the end of an era for the Guardians in the MCU. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters May 5, 2023.
Echo — Summer 2023
SDCC revealed that the series Echo will hit Disney+ in Summer 2023.
Loki Season 2 — Summer 2023
The second season of Loki is also slated for Summer 2023, though after Echo.
The Marvels — July 28, 2023
Even though Ms. Marvel just ended to critical acclaim and with a tease to the Captain Marvel sequel, no new information about The Marvels was shared. It is still scheduled for a July 28, 2023 release.
Blade — November 3, 2023
There was no additional information on the upcoming Blade film led by Mahershala Ali. But the film was given a release date of November 3, 2023.
Ironheart — Fall 2023
The Disney+ series following Riri Williams, Ironheart will release in Fall 2023.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos — Winter 2023
Following Marvel Studios’ first streaming project, WandaVision, a spinoff focusing on Kathryn Hahn’s character, Agatha Harkness, was announced. At SDCC ’22, the spinoff was given a new name and a tentative release date. Agatha: Coven of Chaos will start streaming on Disney+ in Winter 2023.
Daredevil: Born Again — Spring 2024
Daredevil’s solo series starring Charlie Cox in the MCU was not a major part of the SDCC panel. Still, not only did we learn that the series would be titled, Daredevil: Born Again, but it will consist of a whopping 18 episodes. It will begin streaming on Disney+ sometime in Spring 2024.
Captain America: New World Order — May 3, 2024
Marvel Studios teased a continuation of Sam Wilson’s journey as Captain America at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier when the title card changed to Captain America and the Winder Soldier. Yet, while plans for a movie were announced shortly thereafter, Marvel Studios never confirmed the project. With the news of a director boarding Captain America 4 earlier this month, it’s not surprising that Marvel Studios has officially announced the project as part of its Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer Malcolm Spellman penned the script with Dalan Musson, a staff writer on the show. Julius Onah, who helmed The Cloverfield Paradox, is on board to direct the film. It will release May 3, 2024.
Thunderbolts — July 26, 2024

Phase 6
Not only did Marvel Studios surprise by announcing the entirety of Phase 5, but Kevin Feige kept going, giving audiences a look at what looks to be a massive Phase 6, beginning with Fantastic Four on November 8, 2024. Phase 6 will end in a duo of Avengers films entitled Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Phases 4 through 6 are officially coined the “Multiverse Saga”.
Fantastic Four — November 8, 2024
In 2019, Kevin Feige blew up SDCC with the announcement that Marvel Studios was set to unleash their own Fantastic Four film after acquiring the property in the merger with Fox. Jon Watts was brought on board to direct the film but recently left the project. While there’s no new director on board, the film does now have a release date.
8 Unannounced Projects
San Diego Comic-Con has been chaotic, to say the least, as we not only got a look at Phase 5 but also the tease for Phase 6, which will all be under the banner of the Multiverse Saga. While they unveiled Fantastic Four alongside not one but two Avengers films releasing in 2025, they also teased 8 other projects that haven’t gotten announced yet either. It’s unclear if those may be projects they will keep a secret until Disney+ Day and D23. Check out the empty dates on the Phase 6 schedule:
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty — May 2, 2025
Avengers: Secret Wars — November 7, 2025
Like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame did for Phase 3 and the Infinity Saga, the fifth and sixth Avengers films will close out Phase 6 and the Multiverse Saga. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars release May 2 and November 7, 2025, meaning there are only about six months between the release of the two films. Not much else is known about the two-part event, but it confirms many fans’ speculations that the current saga’s big villain would be Kang the Conquerer and end in a Secret Wars-inspired multiversal event.

SDCC: First Look at ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Sequel’s Kang and Stature
We’re still some time away from the official Marvel Studios panel, but in a surprising move, it seems that Marvel Studios Andy Parkart has shared an early look at Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Not only that, but it also includes our first teaser of Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, as well as the design of Cassie Lang’s costume as Stature, the first time confirming she’ll take on the role in the upcoming film.

SDCC: ‘The Sandman’ Creator Once Pitched a ‘Marvel 1602’ Adaptation
San Diego Comic-Con sometimes reveals some interesting details from the past that we may have never found out otherwise. Before the days of Marvel Studios, there was a very different regime. Ike Perlmutter is still famous for being very frugal and Avi Arad once had a big hand in what Marvel’s future was about, a production studio under the tutelage of toy producers. During that era, Neil Gaiman, the creator of Sandman and many iconic stories, seemingly tried to pitch a live-action film.
It seems that back then he tried to pitch them a live-action adaptation of Marvel 1602, which was a unique storyline that would’ve explored our favorite heroes during the year 1602. While an interesting twist would connect it to the present day, the adaptation was certainly something that could’ve offered a very unique take on superhero stories. He has pointed out that he hopes maybe the current leadership is interested in adapting it.

Jamie Lee Curtis Ready to Work with Marvel Studios
Over the years, it has become normal for stars to speak out against studios, either because of a lack of diversity or for creative reasons – with some directors even going so far as to dub superhero films as movies “for children.” In recent months, one actress, Jamie Lee Curtis, has caused a stir online after numerous comments against one studio in particular: Marvel Studios.
Now, in a new interview with People magazine, the Halloween actress explains that she wasn’t bashing the studio. She simply was highlighting how special her latest release, Everything Everywhere All at Once was as it competed against Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. “I have nothing against Marvel as an entity,” Curtis explained. “What I was talking about is that Everything Everywhere All at Once was a little movie that could … and [we] were able to tell a multiverse story that really touched people. What I was trying to talk about was it doesn’t have to be a Marvel movie in order to be a spectacle and to really move you.”
That isn’t to say Curtis wasn’t trying to stir up some friendly competition. While Curtis’ comments seem to suggest she has no interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Curtis isn’t actually against it. In fact, she’s entirely open to joining the MCU, she just doesn’t feel they’ll be calling her soon due to her age and because of her past comments.
“Honestly, I can’t imagine that they will ever come calling because I kicked up some dust,” Curtis said. “But I’m a collaborating artist. I work with a lot of people on a lot of different things, and if the role was interesting and if I could bring what I do to it, of course, I would [work with Marvel]. What am I going to do, say no? Of course!”
Earlier this year, reports surfaced suggesting Curtis might have a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Writer and director James Gunn was quick to debunk that rumor, however, it looks like Curtis could show up in another title – should Marvel Studios give her a call, of course.
Curtis will next appear in Halloween Ends, the final chapter of the latest Halloween trilogy. That film is slated to hit theaters on Oct. 14th.

Jessica Alba Voices Concerns Over Still “Quite Caucasian” Marvel Movies
In recent years, Hollywood has come under fire for its lack of diversity – both behind the camera and in front of it. And while studios have been making strides, some might feel it’s not enough. Jessica Alba expressed her frustrations in a recent interview with Glamour UK, noting that not much has changed since her time in the Fantastic Four films. The actress and Honest Company owner specifically called out the Marvel films, noting that they are still majorly Caucasian. Alba does mention that although the superhero genre has started to become more inclusive, it has quite a ways to go still.
“Even if you look at the Marvel movies – that’s the biggest driver of fantasy and what’s happening right now in entertainment, because it’s sort of the family thing – it’s still quite Caucasian,” the actress said. “I would say I was one of the few back in the day… And it was before Marvel was sold to Disney, but it’s still quite more of the same.”
She continued by explaining that she hoped that younger people would be able to see themselves in the world on screen and in the stories we consume. “I just think more for the younger people who are coming up, who are going to be our future leaders, it’s important for them to see the world on screen, or in stories, in the dreams that we create as entertainers; it reflects the world that they’re in.”
In recent years, Marvel Studios has made it a point to be more inclusive both behind the scenes and in front of the cameras. Recently, the long-running Marvel Cinematic Universe saw the debut of its first Muslim superhero thanks to Ms. Marvel, its first Asian superhero with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, as well as the introduction of two deaf heroes with Eternals and Hawkeye. Of course, as Alba notes, there is always room for improvement, and one can only hope studios continue to include more diversity in future projects.

New ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ BTS Images Offer Closer Look at Bastet
We were all quite excited for the arrival of Thor: Love and Thunder, as it would expand our understanding of godhood in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While our visit to Omnipotence City was relatively brief, it did feature a host of interesting characters scattered throughout a sequence.
Now, the most significant addition was that we could briefly see what looks to be Bastet in the foreground. While she sadly didn’t receive any lines, a new batch of behind-the-scenes photos shared by Luca Vannella offers the best look yet at her design from the film, which highlights her Egyptian background.
It’s still bizarre they’d include such a monumental character of Balck Panther’s mythology and not even explore it in the story. We got a few short moments, and there’s some great inclusion of New Zealand deities, but we sadly didn’t quite get to explore the other pantheons throughout, even if Moon Knight already had us covered there.
Perhaps they are setting up some more exploration of godhood that will be forced to get involved once a certain Conqueror potentially gets his way. We’re still in the set-up phase and there is a lot to be excited about. So, we’ll see where it’s all heading with SDCC heading our way starting today.

Jeff Bridges: ‘Iron Man’ “Drove Me Absolutely Crazy”
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a well-oiled machine these days, in the beginning, that was far from the case. It’s no secret that Iron Man was a very loose production. Although a script had been written, most of it had been thrown out during production resulting in improve from the cast and crew. For Jeff Bridges, who starred in the film as the villain Obadiah Stane, the process was frustrating, and yet enjoyable.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Bridges discussed what it was like making the first Iron Man movie. “It was Marvel’s first adventure into making movies,” the actor explained. “It was so lucky to have Jon on there and [Robert] Downey, because both of them are terrific improvisers, and we spent a couple of weeks working on the script and rehearsing together, because we didn’t like the original script and we thought, ‘Oh yeah, we fixed this, fixed that.’”
For Bridges, throwing out the script was frustrating because the actors had spent time going over their lines, only to find themselves confused with what they were doing. “There was a lot of confusion about what our script was, what we were gonna say. We’d spend hours in one of our trailers going over lines and exploring how we were going to do it,” Bridges said. ““It drove me absolutely crazy until I made a slight adjustment in my brain that was, ‘Jeff, just relax. You’re making a $200 million student film. Just relax and have fun.”’
Production might not have been smooth, but there’s no denying the legacy Iron Man leaves behind. Iron Man, which was directed by Jon Favreau, earned an astounding $585 million at the worldwide box office upon its release in 2008, including $318.6 million from the domestic box office. The film went on to not only reignite Robert Downey Jr.’s career, but also launch a billion-dollar franchise that continues to dominate at the box office twenty-something films in.

3 Major R-Rated Fox Films Headed to Disney Plus
With Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con Hall H presentation just over 2 days away, Disney has made a move that might hint at one potential announcement from Kevin Feige on Saturday. Disney has revealed that 3 R-rated Marvel films from Fox will become available on Disney Plus beginning July 22nd. Deadpool, Deadpool 2 and Logan all hit the platform just one day ahead of Marvel Studios big panel.
While Marvel Studios’ plans for Hall H are being held pretty tightly, as usual, this move could indicate the studio’s plan to update its plans for a third Deadpool film, potentially giving it a release date on its 2024 slate. Ryan Reynolds has stayed passionate about seeing a third Deadpool film through following Disney’s acquisition of Fox which saw the X-Men and related properties move under the Marvel Studios umbrella.
Access to the films will be restricted via parental controls, meaning they’ll join Netflix’s Marvel properties such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Luke Cage and Iron Fist as R-rated/TV-MA properties available in the Marvel section of the streaming service.

New Report Hints at MCU’s X-Men Project ‘The Mutants’
Here’s a rather surprising little reveal but a new report by Deadline may have given away one of the upcoming Marvel projects. In the latest piece exploring what the San Diego Comic-Con may have in store for us, they reveal that we can expect a variety of sneak peeks, most notably of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Yet, the report also may have hinted at Marvel Studios’ first X–Men-focused project.
They theorize that we might get some updates on films like Mahershala Ali’s film, which they seemingly title The Blade this time around, and next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The big reveal however is that they mention The Mutants, which was a title hinted at for the project quite some time ago back in March of 2021. Of course, it could also just be speculation that it’s heading our way but the name used adds a few questions in regards to what it might mean.
There’s still no real confirmation on what exactly we can expect from Marvel Studios’ take on the iconic mutants, especially with Ms. Marvel revealing that the franchise’s latest additions are also a member of it. So, it’ll b interesting to see if they make any announcements during SDCC, but likely could be keeping that surprise for D23 if it ends up true. Whatever may end up happening, we do know for sure that the X-Men and mutants are heading our way.
