With Venom: The Last Dance opening in theaters in just a few days, fans are preparing for what Sony has confirmed is the end of the franchise. However, even if The Last Dance is the the last dance for the Venom franchise, it is starting to seem as though Tom Hardy‘s symbiote may have a few more moves in the tank.
When asked how a Spidey and Venom brawl might play out, Hardy’s gave an answer that will absolutely have fans talking.
“Venom is just like a gorilla, isn’t he? He’ll do what he has to do. I think that would be good fun,” said Hardy who then added that if his Brock were to fight a Spidey, he knows exactly which one hed like it to be.
I think Tom Holland is the best Spider-Man that was ever played, so I’m really fond of him. I think he’s a great actor and a great kid. I’m an old man, but I’d like to work with him.

With the Multiverse Saga rapidly unraveling following the atypically poor quality of several projects in 2022 and 2023, Marvel Studios wisely pressed the pause button on the production of their future slate last year to analyze what went wrong and chart a new path forward. As part of that new path, the studio scrapped its plansfor the fifth Avengers film and Kevin Feige reeled Robert Downey Jr. back into the fold to suit up as Marvel Comics’ greatest villain, Doctor Doom, in the new vision of the project, Avengers: Doomsday. Feige’s efforts to save the sagadidn’t stop there, as he also convinced the studio’s most successful directing duo, Anthony and Joe Russo, to return to direct both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Unsurprisingly, the return of the brothers Russo was part of a package deal that helped assure Downey that the studio was doing everything possible to curate the stories of the next two Avengers films carefully. An additional layer of security for Downey and the Russos was also provided when Stephen McFeely, who co-wrote several MCU projects including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, joined the project. Since the big changes were announced at SDCC ’24, there hasn’t been much official buzz around the projects; however, Collider was recently able to catch up with the Russos at NYCC and the duo was willing to share some big updates on both where things stand with both Doomsday and Secret Wars.

“Stephen McFeely is writing the script,” said Joe Russo about Avengers: Doomsday while adding that “we are right in the middle of the writing process.” Fans will, of course, note that there’s no mention of Christopher Markus being involved in the process despite being a co-writer on all of the Russo’s MCU projects and many non-MCU projects as well. And while some have tried to raise alarms over the absence of Markus, it seems as though all is well and that the brothers have gotten into a familiar groove with McFeely. We’ve always worked very closely with Markus and McFeely through all the work that we’ve done together,” said Joe. “It’s a little bit like getting back on a bike. We have a really codified process that we all work together through… It’s very complicated to iron out a story of this scale.”
That scale of the story of Avengers: Doomsday, and of Avengers: Secret Wars, may end up being larger than anything the studio has produced to date. While fans will have to wait some time before the entire cast lists of either film will be revealed, both are expected to see the return of dozens upon dozens of characters from the heroes of previous Avengers films to the Fantastic Four to the Scarlet Witch to Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man and even Thanos. Though he didn’t give anything away, Joe Russo confirmed to Collider that fans should expect a lot of heroes, villains and stories all coming together over teh course of the two Avengers films. “These are gonna be very, very big movies with a lot of characters in them and a lot of story lines coalescing,’ said the co-director before providing some positive vibes about the scripts saying, “We’re really happy with how they’re coming together right now.“
With the scripting process well underway, the Russos confirmed that principal photography on Avengers: Doomsday will kick off in the UK in the spring while also addressing how long of a break they’ll take before cameras roll on Avengers: Secret Wars. “It’ll be similar [to the process of filming Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame], but we’ll have a larger break in between the two movies than we did,” said Joe Russo before asking his brother, Anthony for clarification “I think it was four weeks maybe? Was it four weeks between Infinity War and Endgame?“. Anthony then confirmed that they do not plan to film the two projects back-to-back, indicating that they may have “a year or so” of separation.
I think it was a couple of weeks. But no, these are not as separated as you would normally separate two films of this scale, but they’re more substantially separated [than Infinity War and Endgame] by a year or so.

With the two films set to open up a year apart in May 2026 and May 2027, respectively, it sounds as though all things are in order to make those release dates and deliver two large scale stories that MCU fans have been craving.
Tom Holland‘s time as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man has been an incredible success. After debuting in Captain America: Civil War, Holland’s Peter Parker led three solo Spider-Man films (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home) and starred in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Five of those films hit theaters in a three-year span so, understandably, Holland has been a bit of a break from the character since No Way Home hit theaters in 2022. However, as Marvel Studios’ Multiverse Saga moves toward its final phase, it’s time for the Webhead to return and help lift the studio back to its former glory.
Whatever the plot of the film, set to be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, ends up being, it’s clear that Holland has been given some level of input into his fourth go around. In a recent interview, the star revealed that the project has “a creative and a pitch and a draft” which he deemed “excellent” while also admitting that “it needs work.” Later in the interview, Holland reiterated that there were “a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going” in order to ensure the legacy of the character was kept intact.

Over the last decade, Marvel Comics added an incredible new layer to the legacy of Spider-Man in Miles Morales. The character has proven to be a hit across all mediums and fans have called out for his live-action debut for quite some time. Interestingly enough, despite all the wild plans Sony continues to concoct, none of them have included a live-action Miles Morales project. One can decide for oneself if that’s telling or not but one reasonable explanation for why Sony hasn’t moved forward with such a project yet is that they may indeed prefer to introduce the character in a Marvel Studios project and enter into a collaborative agreement similar to the one they have over the use of Peter Parker. Whether that ever comes to pass or not, it’s clear that Holland would be on board with such a decision.
During an interview with Rich Roll, the star made it clear that before he moves on from the role of Peter Parker, he wants to help introduce whichever young actor is chosen as Miles into the MCU. “If I would be lucky enough to somehow bring Miles Morales into my Spider-Man Universe and into the MCU, I’d love to do for a young kid what [Robert] Downey [Jr.] did for me.“
It’s a wonderful idea and one that would deepen and enrich both characters, as it has in the comics, if done correctly. Though his love for the character is well-known, Holland’s time as Spider-Man may be growing short. Rumors persist that he’ll not only star in Spider-Man 4 but also play major roles in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will end the Multiverse Saga. While it’s unclear exactly what the plans are beyond the Multiverse Saga, the potential for a clean break from Peter Parker and a shift to Miles Morales as the primary Spider-Man of the MCU does exist. And Holland seems ready to make it happen.
He is…inevitable. As the Avengers learned in Avengers: Infinity War, there’s no more dangerous foe than Thanos, the Mad Titan. And though they had some measure of revenge against him and were able to defeat another Variant of the villain in Avengers: Endgame, Earth-616 was forever changed because of his machinations and was left without several of its mightiest heroes. Simply put, although the Avengers avenged, Thanos won.
After being introduced in a relatively minor role in James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy, Thanos became the central villain of what came to be known as the Infinity Saga. With Josh Brolin on board to bring Thanos to life, Marvel Studios did the unthinkable by making a villain the protagonist of Avengers: Infinity War. Now, as the studio prepares to shine the spotlight on another of Marvel Comics’ great villains in Avengers: Doomsday, a pair of convergent reports claim that the MCU is also turning back to Thanos.

After social media scooper MTTSH claimed that Thanos was headed back to the MCU “sooner than you think”, ComicBookMovie.com followed up with their own claim: Marvel Studios has plans for the Mad Titan to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.
After originally being developed by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness scribe Michael Waldron, the script of Avengers: Secret Wars is now in the hands of Stephen McFeely who co-wrote both Infinity War and Endgame, making him very familiar with Thanos. Add in the fact that the brothers Russo are back in the directors’ chairs for Doomsday and Secret Wars and the idea that the return of Thanos in the latter could put him against Robert Downey Jr. again and you have the makings of a believable rumor.
For those wondering, Thanos has squared off against Doctor Doom in the pages of Marvel Comics before. In fact, in the 2015 event series Secret Wars, Thanos squared off against God Emperor Doom and found himself wanting. Though the reports don’t provide any details about what to expect from Thanos’ appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see a Multiversal Variant of the character find himself in a similar predicament.
It’s hard to imagine Sony and Marvel Studios moving forward on a fourth Spider-Man film without Tom Holland and that’s probably why rumors of the star agreeing to a deal to stay on as the Web-Slinger preceded the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home which was his last contracted appearance. Though those rumors of a new deal were incredibly widespread, neither Holland nor anyone at Sony or Marvel ever confirmed the veracity of them. For his part, Holland has stayed the course, maintaining that while he’s interested in working with the studios on another film, he’d only move forward if it was a story worth telling.
All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character. Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man. I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.
With Spidey vets Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers reportedly back on board to script the fourth film and Destin Daniel Cretton set to direct, buzz is building around the project, especially with rumors of a 2025 start of production. While fans continue to wait for word on when Holland’s Peter Parker will return to the screen and start off a brand new phase of his career, the star has spoken out about the state of the project for this first time.
“We have a creative and a pitch and a draft which is excellent. It needs work but the writers are doing a great job and I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me,” said Holland in a wide-ranging interview with Rich Roll. “Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were like bouncing around the living room.” Holland continued, once again expressing concern for the legacy of the character, especially in the minds of fans. “Like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect, but there [are] a few things we need to figure out before we can get that really going. But it’s exciting and I’m really, really excited about it.”
As a seasoned veteran of Marvel Studios’ projects, Holland is well aware that the story for Spider-Man 4 will serve as not only a Spidey sequel but also to set up the character’s next steps in the shared narrative. “Obviously, one of the things to like bear in mind with Marvel is that there is, your film is a small cog in a large machine, and that machine has got to keep running, and you need to make sure that you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture,” Holland explained. With Spider-Man reportedly set to play a large role in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, it seems as though everyone has agreed upon where the sweet spot in the timeline is and that it’ll allow for a solid fourth installment in the Spidey franchise to pave the way. “I feel like I owe it to [fans] to give and deliver the best version of what the next chapter for Spider-Man looks like,” said Holland, “and I think that’s really important, and I think the creative integrity for something like that is really important, and the studio is on board and supportive and really collaborative.“
Despite how great all of that sounds, Holland did caution that while everyone is working in the right direction, it’s not quite go time yet. “I’ve been so blown away by how welcoming they’ve been into that creative room, but you know we’re working now, pedal is to the metal, we’re trying to get it going as soon as possible,” he said. “Things are looking great, but there’s still a lot of moving pieces that need to come together for us to hit the ground running.” Hopefully whatever needs to come together does so without a hitch, allowing Holland’s Spider-Man to make his way back to the MCU by 2026.
With production on Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man 4 finally set to get underway in 2025, buzz around the project has been steadily growing over the past several months. Though the project has been in development since before Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theaters in 2022 and rumors about its potential plot have been popping up for almost as long, it wasn’t until Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton boarded the project following a rumored script overhaul that the wildest and most exciting rumors started to fly.
Once widely believed to be a team-up film featuring Spidey, Daredevil and other street-level heroes taking on Wilson Fisk, the latest word on the film’s script, by Spidey vets Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, is that it will bring Sony’s Spidey-adjacent universe’s biggest star into the MCU and, along with him, one of the most terrifying villains to hit the pages of Marvel Comics in the last decade: Knull, the King in Black. Though there’s no confirmation of exactly what the actual plan is for Spider-Man 4, reports of screenings of Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance indicate that the film may indeed set up the prospects of an unprecedented studio crossover in which Tom Hardy‘s Eddie Brock finds himself fully integrated into the MCU and not just visiting for a short-term bender in Mexico. As the release date of Sony’s third and final installment in the Venom franchise draws near, Hardy was asked about the recent rumors and his response may be quite telling.
When asked by a reporter what the odds of Spider-Man showing up in Venom: The Last Dance might be, Hardy slyly responded by saying, “You know…you know, there are always possibilities. I couldn’t possibly say anything because this is the last movie.” Before moving on, Hardy added, “Yeah, I would love that.” As not only the star of the Venom franchise but also a writer and producer on The Last Dance, Hardy is in a unique position to know exactly what those possibilities are for this film and beyond.
This is just the beginning for Knull. We’re in spoiler territory now and we hope some of the fun of watching this movie is not knowing what will happen,but trust me, we know full well how important Knull is to the fans, so just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope we are doing the same for Knull.

Despite Sony putting a bow on the Venom franchise in The Last Dance, director Kelly Marcel recently confirmed that Knull’s story is just beginning. However, with the two most popular symbiote (Venom and Carnage) apparently off the board, it would seem foolish–even for Sony–to try to move forward with a symbiote-centric story. But according to Marcel, “One movie could never do justice to Knull,” which means that somehow, someway, there’s more story to tell. With a piece of the Venom symbiote already on Earth-616 and Hardy’s Brock reportedly headed back to the MCU’s Sacred Timeline, it’s easy to draw the conclusion the the King in Black will find his way there as well.
In nearly every way imaginable, DC Studios’ Superman may be the most pivotal comic book movie since 2008. By choosing to write and direct the project and have it lead off the studio’s all-new, all-different DCU, DC Studios’ co-chair James Gunn went all in on making the Man of Steel a priority for the fledgling shared universe. In this way, Gunn’s vision for the character will be the audience’s first true impression and likely define whether or not the DCU ultimately takes off.
The good news there is that Gunn’s love for the character and the incredible mythology that’s been built up around him over the last 86 years is well known. And while that doesn’t guarantee Superman will be a success, photos from the set and reports from screenings have given fans reason to hope, which is what the character is all about. Some of those set photos seemed to tease the inclusion of one of Superman’s most loveable supporting characters, Krypto. Now, Gunn has not only confirmed the inclusion of the Superdog but also shared a first look at the powerful pup!

A well-known animal lover, Gunn also shared a touching story about how his own dog, Ozu, whoche and his wife rescued from an unfortunate situation. From the sounds of the story, Krypto will be both an integral part of the story and also cause some chaos!
Venom: The Last Dance may well be the final installment in Sony’s Tom Hardy-led franchise but it’s become clear that the studio isn’t done experimenting with symbiotes just yet. The Last Dance is set to introduce the Marvel Comics villain Knull, the creator of the symbiote race and one of the oldest and most evil characters in the cosmos. However, Knull does not have a large role in this film, with the studio choosing to introduce the character in order to set him up as a far greater threat to be dealt with down the road, something akin to what Marvel Studios did with Thanos in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
In an interview with IGN, Marcel seemingly confirmed the latest and greatest rumors about the future of the character, saying “This is just the beginning for Knull.” “We’re in spoiler territory now and we hope some of the fun of watching this movie is not knowing what will happen,” cautioned Marcel, “but trust me, we know full well how important Knull is to the fans, so just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope we are doing the same for Knull.
“The King in Black is way too powerful for ‘one and done.’ This film introduces Knull, but it just touches the beginnings of his story,” explained Marcel before comparing the studio’s plans for Knull to those of Marvel Studio’s greatest film villains, saying, “Marvel’s greatest film villains are developed over time. Here, Knull is the threat lurking behind the danger that tests the absolute limits of Eddie and Venom’s partnership — but it’s their relationship that remains the heart of this story.”
Knowing that Knull is after his creations and that part of Eddie Brock’s symbiote was left behind on Earth-616 after his brief trip there certainly helps add fuel to the fire that Knull could eventually find his way into the MCU. And while Marcel doesn’t confirm it, she gives room for hope that one of Marvel Comics’ recent crossover events could unfold in Spider-Man 4. “As the fans know there are many, many more symbiote stories — the universe is wide and rich, and one movie could never do justice to Knull,” teased Marcel. “Beyond this trilogy, there are more stories to explore – God is coming.“
Though fans might debate whether Robert Downey Jr.‘s return to Marvel Studios was a publicity stunt or a brilliant casting decision, there’s little room for argument about the impact the star will have on the box office receipts for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. As one of the franchise’s central heroes, Tony Stark, Downey led the MCU to unimaginable success and is primed to do it again, this time as the newly minted main antagonist of the studio’s Multiverse Saga. The announcement of Downey as Victor Von Doom not only caught a lot of fans by surprise, it also changed the course of the remainder of the studio’s Multiverse Saga, potentially allowing for some projects to move ahead while putting others on the shelf, perhaps forever.
While the studio’s slate of projects for 2026 and 2027 remains largely unknown, the ongoing shared narrative does have two fixed points in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. And so while the Marvel Studios Parliament continues to rewrite the new saga on the fly, preparations are underway for Anthony and Joe Russo to get back to work with Downey and the rest of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday so it can meet its May 1, 2026 release date. And now, thanks to a new report from a reliable MCU insider, we have an idea of not only what that schedule might look like but also what else awaits Downey in his role as Doom.
According to long-time MCU inside man Daniel RPK, like Josh Brolin‘s Thanos before him, Downey’s Doom will indeed be the protagonist of Avengers: Doomsday. With a five-month shoot expected to kick off in the UK in March 2025, Downey is expected to be on set for three of those months while other stars are currently looking at only setting up shop for anywhere between one to four weeks.
How can we not go backwards? How can we not disappoint expectations? How can we continue to beat expectations? And he brought up Victor Von Doom. I looked into this character. Later on, he goes, ‘Let’s get Victor Von Doom right.’

Given the lengths to which Marvel Studios One Above All, Kevin Feige, went to bring Downy back into the fold as Doom, it shouldn’t be too surprising that the star will be front and center in Avengers: Doomsday and, likely, again in Avengers: Secret Wars. However, according to RPK, those won’t be the only projects in which Downey dons the mask. The insider suggests that in addition to those two films and 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Downey’s Doom may “potentially” appear in “some other projects between Doomsday and Secret Wars.”
Without a defined release slate for 2026 or 2027, it’s incredibly hard to pin down what those “other projects” might be; however, given the comic book history between Doctor Doom and Wanda Maximoff, it’s not too hard to imagine Downey joining Elizabeth Olsen in the rumored Scarlet Witch solo film, even though the two characters have to navigate the multiverse to make it happen. Similarly, a shared comic book history with Stephen Strange points to multiple potential opportunities for storytelling in the MCU, pairing Downey with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Master of the Mystic Arts. And, of course, any number of other possibilities exist and with Downey on board as Doom, it would seem as though a bad match would be hard to find.
In the simplest terms, MCU fans would be best served by forgetting Marvel Studios 2022 SDCC and D23 presentations ever took place. Just over two years later, the studio’s plans for their Multiverse Saga have been turned upside down and inside out. However, after going through an unprecedented rough patch, Marvel has begun to emerge and, it seems, learned and evolved and righted the ship.
As part of the unexpected struggles, many of Marvel’s previously announced and planned projects have been delayed while others face an uncertain future. However, with a new path to the end of the saga outlined, the studio has been able to begin roughing out the supporting pieces that will flesh out the story around the two Avengers centerpieces.
With the studio’s 2025 projects all seemingly moving along as expected, the Parliament has turned its attention to its 2026 slate and it has started to come together quickly. Though nothing has been officially announced by the studio, it’s beginning to look like 2026 will shape up as follows:
Blade (February 13, 2026)
Avengers: Doomsday (May 1, 2026)
Spider-Man 4 (July 24, 2026)
Doctor Strange 3 (November 6, 2026)
To be clear, as of now only Avengers: Doomsday, set to be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, has been announced by the studio. However, Destin Daniel Cretton recently boarded Spider-Man 4, choosing to direct it rather than a Shang-Chi sequel, and Sam Raimi is reportedly nearing a deal that would see him back at the helm of the Doctor Strange franchise. And yes, even Blade, which has been searching for the proper creative mix for over five years is reportedly still working toward eventually hitting the big screen.
Caveat emptor certainly applies heavily here as the studio has never faced a more uncertain time than now; however, it is clear the powers that be have been working toward putting together a 2026 slate and have made some legitimate progress. And for a studio trying to scale back its output, 2026 is shaping up to be one of its biggest years ever.
