‘No Way Home’s Will Have the Longest Runtime for an MCU ‘Spider-Man’ Film

Not too long ago, first reports have found their way online about Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s runtime. It was hinted that it would run for two hours and 28 minutes. There is the chance they are still adapting parts of the film ahead of its release in a few weeks, and a new report by Collider has found its way online highlighting that it’ll be 2 hours and 30 minutes. So, it seems that they may have extended the cut slightly. So, it stands at 150 minutes which is ahead of Homecoming‘s 133 minutes and Far From Home‘s 129 minutes.

Collider highlights that the 150-minute mark does include the credits and it’s not known how many post-credit sequences might be included. To keep a tight lid on any eventual spoilers, there won’t be any press screenings until December 13th, which is the same day as its Los Angeles premiere. There are rumors of an early screening taking place for the initial 40 minutes of the film that offered a first taste of the upcoming release.

  • EXCLUSIVE: First Details on Pete Davidson and James DeMarco Horror Film ‘The Home’

EXCLUSIVE: First Details on Pete Davidson and James DeMarco Horror Film ‘The Home’

While the headlines right now surrounding Pete Davidson are about his seemingly new dating life with Kim Kardashian, he has also been busy with quite a few projects throughout the last few years. he made a name for himself during his time on Saturday Night Live, he’s also appeared in quite a few films, including the recent release of James Gunn‘s The Suicide Squad. He’s also going to appear in the upcoming film Meet Cute and has a horror film in the works. Luckily, we can exclusively share the first details on his upcoming project The Home.

Davidson will take on the main role of Max, who is given a community service assignment at a local retirement home, which also explains the film’s title. The elderly residents are surprisingly full of life and he believes he may have gotten his hands on a good gig. But, it is a horror film after all, something far sinister is lurking in the shadows.

The Purge veteran James DeMonaco wrote the script alongside actor Adam Cantor, who is also going to have a role in the project. It is already in production in New York and New Jersey but is eyeing a production end in January or at the latest in March of 2022. It’ll be interesting to see what a dark and sinister retirement home might offer in the form of a horror film. It sounds like a similar concept that M. Night Shyamalan explored in The Visit, but on a much bigger scale. So, nightmares are certainly abound once the project releases.

  • Original ‘Little Mermaid’ Filmmakers Developing an Animated ‘Metal MeN’ Film

Original ‘Little Mermaid’ Filmmakers Developing an Animated ‘Metal MeN’ Film

Animation has always been one of DC’s stronger areas, with many of the straight-to-DVD animated films becoming instant classics for the brand, and adapting some of the most beloved stories and characters. With League of Super-Pets set to hit theaters next year, it seems DC and WB are ready to bring these animated stories to the big screen, with another animated film already in development.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Warner Animation Group is currently developing an animated film focused on the Metal Men. They are a group of superheroes from DC Comics that debuted in the early ’60s. The film was written by Ron Clements, Celeste Ballard, and John Musker. They are best known for their work on many classic animated Disney films such as Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Princess and The Frog, Hercules, and Moana. They are also eyeing to direct the project and will produce alongside Craig Peck.

The Metal Men made their debut back in 1962 and were created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru. Dr. William Magnus developed the six highly advanced AI robots known as Gold, Iron, Lead, Mercury, Tin, and Platinum whose personalities and abilities mirrored that of their namesakes. The team briefly had a series of animated shorts that aired exclusively on Cartoon Network, but since then the characters really haven’t been in the spotlight. The willingness of WB and DC to explore characters like the Metal Men, even if it is in animation is very promising for the future. The animation will allow for these characters to be accurately brought to life and live up to their full potential.

  • EXCLUSIVE: ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ Author Hopes to Adapt the Entire Series into Disney + Films

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ Author Hopes to Adapt the Entire Series into Disney + Films

The all-new animated film Diary of a Wimpy Kid is now streaming on Disney Plus (you can read our review of the film right here!). The film is an adaptation of the first book in the popular children’s series by author Jeff Kinney. Kinney, who wrote the screenplay for the new movie and also served as an executive producer, talked with Murphy’s Multiverse’s own Arlyn Murphy this week about the new film.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid is served in an easy-to-digest 56-minute runtime full of heart and humor and some great characters. An adaptation of the second book in the series, Rodrick Rules, is already in development as a sequel that is planned for a 2022 release, but we could just be seeing the tip of the iceberg in terms of the books being adapted for Disney Plus. Murphy asked Kinney if he had plans to continue to adapt the series (the 16th entry to the series, Big Shot, was just released at the end of October), and Kinney was optimistic about the prospects:

I hope so. And I hope we can make them longer, too. The Rodrick Rules one is a little longer than the first one. I really hope we get to do lots of these stories because we’re really trying to do a good job and we’re not just spitting them out. We’re sort of really taking our time in crafting them and I love that so I hope we can tell lots of stories.

As Murphy noted in her review of the film, the new adaptation makes some emotional additions to the book. With Kinney overseeing the projects, we know the stories of Greg Heffley and his family and friends are in good hands.

  • EXCLUSIVE: ‘Diary of a Wimpy’ Kid Author Has No Plans to End the Beloved Series

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Diary of a Wimpy’ Kid Author Has No Plans to End the Beloved Series

It took author Jeff Kinney nearly 8 years to get his first book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, published in 2007. Since then, the author has continued to kick out sequels at a prolific rate with at least one Wimpy Kid book being released each year since. The first book was adapted into a live-action film in 2010 and now Kinney worked with Disney to bring the familiar animation style to Disney Plus in the all-new short film Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Arlyn Murphy sat down with Kinney to talk about the new movie and the future of book series. Murphy and Kinney talked about the inspiration behind the book series and the process in getting the first one to print. When asked if he had any end in mind for Greg’s story, Kinney’s reply indicated that we should plan on many more stories about the adventures of Greg Heffley and friends.

Yeah, I was joking on Twitter…somebody said “When will the series end?” and I said, “It will end when I end.” And I got like 100,000 likes to that and I was like, “Oh man, I shouldn’t have said that!” But that is how I feel. A good cartoonist, I think, sticks with their property. I think we all feel sad when a cartoon character goes away, you know, so I’m gonna do this for a while if I can.

Kinney’s love for the characters he has created comes through not only in the novels but in the new film. His message of perseverance in the face of challenges is a great one and his success shows the power of betting on yourself. The most recent entry in the Wimpy Kid series, Big Shot, is available now at Amazon and wherever books are sold.

You can read Murphy’s review of the new animated film here and check back at Murphy’s Multiverse for more coverage of the movie and interviews with Kinney and the film’s lead, Brady Noon.

  • Netflix’s Upcoming ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Film is a Direct Sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 Original

Netflix’s Upcoming ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Film is a Direct Sequel to Tobe Hooper’s 1974 Original

After reviving the Evil Dead franchise with a refreshing new take, Fede Álvarez is also tackling the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. Alongside his writing partner Rodo Sayagues, they are attempting to reboot the entire franchise with a sequel to the original 1974 classic by Tobe Hooper. He offered some insight into their approach to the film, as well as teased with a first look at the returning Leatherface.

Me and Rodo really wanted to make sure we don’t disappoint the fans, and we are [among them]. So it’s pretty hardcore. But at the same time it has the simplicity of that first film. We wanted to come up with a very simple premise [with] a powerful domino effect. Everything is set up in the right place — all you have to do is push the first domino and everything will happen effortlessly.

He goes on to highlight that this is indeed the same character we met in the original and offers a taste of how they integrate the character into the story.

It’s basically the same character, who is still alive. Our take on it was this guy probably disappeared after everything he’s done. You know, how do you catch a guy who has a mask? Once he removes the mask and runs away, it’s very easy for him to hide somewhere. This story will pick it up many, many years after the original story. He’s been in hiding for a long, long time, trying to be a good person. These people arriving in this town are going to awaken the giant.

    Fede Álvarez

David Blue Garcia takes over directing duties based on a script by Chris Thomas Devlin, the upcoming sequel “takes place a long time after the original Texas Chainsaw” according to one of its stars Elsie Fisher. She’ll be joined by Sarah Yarkin, Nell Hudson, and Jacob Latimore who end up playing the group that ends up in this horror sequel. It’ll be interesting to see if the film will manage to achieve what it sets out once it releases on February 18th.

  • ‘West Side Story’: Ariana DeBose on Taking Over the Role of Anita as an Afro-Latinx Actress

‘West Side Story’: Ariana DeBose on Taking Over the Role of Anita as an Afro-Latinx Actress

Stephen Spielberg’s new rendition of the iconic musical West Side Story is packed with unfamiliar faces. Much of the cast find themselves breaking out on the big screen for the first time, fresh off the stages of Broadway. One of these up-and-coming stars is Ariana DeBose, who takes up the torch once carried by the great Rita Moreno, in the role of Anita. During a recent press junket, DeBose was asked what it was like to follow in the footsteps of someone as iconic as Moreno. Her answer immediately, and appropriately, addressed the topic of race and how it factored into the doubt she had about being cast:

Y’know, I feel like my answer to that question is going to change every time. Depending on the moment I’m in. When I was first asked to audition, I had to be pushed into the room. I inherently did not think this was ever a job that I would book, because Anitas don’t look like us. They look like Rita Moreno.

    Ariana DeBose

The actress, who has darker skin than most of her costars, felt it was important this aspect be explored in her character’s updated storyline. She went on to explain:

I was, not shocked, but just like really amazed that Stephen [Spielberg] and Tony [Kushner] were open to having the conversation around it. Because it was something I said in the room, ‘If we don’t want to touch on that, y’know, by virtue of me being a black woman, and that can inform this character’s path, then maybe this isn’t the choice for you. Maybe I’m not the choice for you.’ And then you get the job and you’re like ‘Oh my gosh, okay, cool. I have a point of view. I know what I’m trying to accomplish and I feel prepared. Everything’s going to be fine.’

    Ariana DeBose

Luckily, the filmmakers behind the production agreed to make this part of Anita’s arc in the movie. Now fans are fortunate to have DeBose’s fresh take on the character to root for when the film drops on December 10th.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch on Doctor Strange’s Future Beyond ‘Multiverse of Madness’

Benedict Cumberbatch on Doctor Strange’s Future Beyond ‘Multiverse of Madness’

We still have some time before Doctor Strange gets his first sequel, Multiverse of Madness next year. Yet, Benedict Cumberbatch will be on the silver screen as the Sorcerer Supreme in just a few weeks, as he’ll appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He’ll help guide Peter Parker through the multiverse, as he faces an unlikely future with his identity out there. Of course, it does open the question of what does the future has in store for our favorite sorcerer. Seems that question was also nagging USA Today, as they asked the actor about it in a recent interview while he was promoting Power of the Dog. It looks like he is open to sticking around quite a bit longer, as he says that:

As long as the character is interesting and challenging and doing fantastic things in the MCU, why not.

    Benedict Cumberbatch

It’s always great to see an actor as talented as Cumberbatch committed to bringing these characters to life and even willing to stick around for a longer period of time. Chris Hemsworth famously wanted to leave the franchise after a certain amount of films until Taika Waititi came along and added a breath of fresh air to his franchise, reigniting that spark. We’ll see if a third or even fourth entry in the Doctor Strange franchise can add something new for the actor to dip his toes in and keep the enthusiasm going.

  • EXCLUSIVE: ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ Star Brady Noon Reveals His Favorite Book in the Series

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ Star Brady Noon Reveals His Favorite Book in the Series

Like many kids his age, 15-year old Brady Noon has grown up in a Wimpy Kid world. At least one Diary of a Wimpy Kid book has been published every year since 2007, including the latest entry in the series, Big Shot, which was released this October. Additionally, four of the books (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Rodrick Rules, Dog Days and The Long Haul) were adapted into live-action films between 2010 and 2017.

Now Disney Plus is working with author Jeff Kinney to adapt the books into a series of animated films beginning with Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which starts streaming tomorrow and Noon, who starred on the D+ series, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, is now a part of that world, voicing the lead character, Greg Heffley. Arlyn Murphy had a chance to speak with Noon ahead of the film’s release and asked him if he was a fan of the Wimpy Kid books growing up.

I was! Third and Fourth grade were probably around the first time I picked up a Diary of a Wimpy Kid book and I started reading it and I grew up, my young childhood, on the movies and the books, so just to be part of such an amazing franchise is just such a dream come true.

Murphy followed up by asking Noon if one book among the 16 in the series stood out to him as a favorite, to which Noon replied, “Yeah, definitely the first one. Can’t go wrong with the original one is kind of how I look at it.” Given the massive franchise the original 2007 book has spawned, Noon’s not wrong!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid begins streaming on Disney Plus December 3rd.

  • ‘West Side Story’: Rachel Zegler on Honoring the Late Stephen Sondheim

‘West Side Story’: Rachel Zegler on Honoring the Late Stephen Sondheim

West Side Story recently held its world premiere, with critics praising the highly-anticipated adaptation of the beloved classic. Unfortunately, though, as the film readies to hit theaters, those involved are mourning the loss of Stephen Sondheim, who passed away on Nov. 26 from cancer. Sondheim, of course, penned the lyrics to West Side Story‘s memorable songs, along with lyrics for Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods. During a recent press junket for the film, the cast was asked what it was like to sing his songs that are still relevant to this day. Rachel Zegler, who plays Maria in the film, shared her experience:

I think I can speak for everyone here today that a lot of us wouldn’t be here without the words of Stephen Sondheim. We are so lucky to not only be able to sing his lyrics, but to be able to talk to him about them. We consider them silly anecdotes because of how iconic they are but, he was always wanting to change them, and always wanting to evolve them. It’s really inspiring as an artist to watch someone who had created this insane piece of work and he still has things he wants to change sixty-four years later. I certainly wouldn’t be performing without Stephen Sondheim. May his memory be a blessing.

    Rachel Zegler

While West Side Story still has a rabid fanbase all these years later, Sondheim admitted the lyrics embarrassed him as recently as last year. During an interview with ABC, the lyricist talked about being critical of his work on West Side Story.

There are moments in it that embarrass me,” he told them. I’ll give you a poetic one. Says Tony in ‘Tonight,’ ‘today the world was just an address.’ I thought, ‘wait a minute, that sure sounds like he’s been reading a lot to me.’ I can’t imagine that a kid would say, having just met this girl and being, you know, the kind of kid he is, a street kid, would come up with a phrase that fancy.

    Stephen Sondheim

Thankfully, Sondheim was involved in the making of the movie, and while he may be gone, his work continues to live on through it. You can check out our review on the Steven Spielberg adaptation by clicking here.

West Side Story hits theaters on Dec. 10.
