Natasha Lyonne Talks ‘Russian Doll’ Season 2

Russian Doll‘s first season was a smash hit for Netflix when it debuted in 2019 that left fans eagerly wanting more of this crazy world. While the series was renewed in June 2019, the journey to Season 2 has been a long one. Thankfully, however, the wait is nearly over and no one is more excited than series star Natasha Lyonne, who served as a director this season in addition to being the show’s co-creator, executive producer, writer, and showrunner. In a recent interview with Variety, Lyonne expressed her excitement over finally sharing this “crazy” season.

On Friday, Netflix held a rooftop celebration for the series at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Lyonne was on hand to promote the series and took some time to discuss what it was like to finally release the trailer, without trying to spoil anything for Season 2. “It’s scary releasing trailers and things like that, because you’re trying to figure out the right amount [to show], if you want people to be able to go in cold,” she explained. “And yet, there’s a thirst, a hunger that dictates that this is the way that we do things.”

She also talked about what it’s like to be so involved in the production, especially as she feels as though there are bits of Nadia in herself. “When I’m in the writers room, I’m much more of a stressed out person who looks tired and worn down. In prep, all of a sudden it’s that person, but with a lot of parkas, because directing loves parkas and sneakers. Then this third character emerges — now I’m inside of Nadia and it’s go time.”

After directing the eighth episode of Season 1, Lyonne stepped behind the camera for half of this season’s episodes, with executive producer Alex Buono tackling the rest of the episodes. For Lyonne, getting to work with Buono behind the camera was special as she enjoys their partnership and what they brought to this season. “I always tell Alex, ‘I know that you have your life and you have a best friend, but just know that you’re my best friend.’ Because I don’t think I’d ever been able to get quite to the end of a thought so concretely as I was able to with Alex. There was something so special about our partnership this season. There’s these things that we wanted to do, and we actually made them happen, so he’s incredible.”

Russian Doll Season 2 will finally hit Netflix on April 20th.

  • Netflix’s ‘Locke & Key’ Will End With Season 3

Netflix’s ‘Locke & Key’ Will End With Season 3

Another fan favorite comic book show is coming to an end on Netflix. The streaming service has revealed that the upcoming third season of Locke & Key, a supernatural thriller series based on the IDW comic of the same name, will be the show’s last. However, fans shouldn’t worry about being left on any sort of cliffhanger, as Deadline is reporting the creatives behind the production always planned on finishing the story with a three-season arc.

After the successful launch of Locke & Key‘s first season, showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill were reportedly approached by Netflix with the idea of a complete three-season run. The duo agreed that two more batches of episodes would be enough to tell their story, and from that point conceived the plot of the eight-episode third season to give the series a proper conclusion. They explained to Deadline:

Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion. As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.

Statement from Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill

Locke & Key is based on the comic series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez, and followed the adventures of the young Locke siblings after their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances. The three children, alongside their mother, move into the family’s ancestral home, which they find to be full of magical keys that may unlock the answers they’re looking for. Unfortunately, their exploits also awaken a powerful demon, who will stop at nothing to steal the keys for himself.

Locke & Key‘s third season does not currently have a release date.

  • RUMOR: ‘The Witcher’ Season 3 To Begin Production in March

RUMOR: ‘The Witcher’ Season 3 To Begin Production in March

The Witcher has become quite the hit for Netflix, with the streamer building a universe around the popular franchise for fans to enjoy outside of the books and video games. The second season of the mothership series just hit Netflix, while The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel set hundreds of years before the events of Geralt’s story, is set to debut on the service sometime in 2022. And now, thanks to a new report, it seems the third season could be kicking into action a little sooner than some thought, in what could be just a couple of months from now.

Redanian Intelligence, a news source for all things Witcher, reports the third season of The Witcher is set to begin production sometime in March. The third season of the series has reportedly already been written, with writing on the third season beginning before the second season had even begun. Production was initially reported to begin in February with the series set to wrap sometime in July, however, with that pushed back a month, it now seems the production could wrap sometime in August.

With the next installment already in development and looking to kick off quite soon, it seems plausible that fans could see the third season debut sometime in early-mid 2023, with a possible Spring release date. No official word has been issued yet on Season 3 outside of its renewal, and no casting has been announced either, but that could change in the next few months as production ramps up.

All eight episodes of The Witcher Season 2 are now streaming on Netflix.

Since its debut in September, Squid Game has proven to be a massive success for Netflix.

By the end of October, The Korean drama amassed an astounding 3 billion minutes viewed in a week’s span. I’m in the planning process currently.”

Unfortunately, those hoping for a quick return will find themselves disappointed. “I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen.”

The first season of Squid Game is now streaming on Netflix.
