The Morning After Huddle: May 27, 2022

Welcome to the Friday edition of your favorite source for NFL news, The Morning After Huddle. The Lamar Jackson mystery continues and if the Ravens were a meme right now, they would be the one where the dog is sitting in a house on fire saying ”this is fine.”

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Lamar Jackson’s long-term status with the Ravens remains a mystery. He won’t engage the team on a contract, even though they are ready to give him a major new deal. He insists that he doesn’t want to leave, but he’s not acting like he wants to stay. Yesterday, the team signed former Colts backup QB Brett Hundley as Jackson has been notably absent from OTA’s.
    • The “Forgotten Four” of Marion Motley, Woody Strode, Kenny Washington and Bill Willis, a quartet of Black football players broke down the race barrier in professional football, have been selected to share the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Ralph Hay Pioneer Award during enshrinement week.
    • Key Signings Roundup: The Falcons signed former Titans RB Jeremy McNichols. The fourth-year veteran’s a player who coach Arthur Smith knows well from their time working together in Tennessee.

That’s it for today’s huddle! As always, grab your coffee and join us for your weekend edition of The Huddle tomorrow.

The Morning After Huddle: May 25, 2022

Just like an ex-lover who pops up when you’re finally happy and have forgotten about them: baby, I’m back! Thank you to my partner-in-print, Dalbin, for holding down The Huddle yesterday despite some major Colts shade (*stares intensely*). Welcome to another edition of your favorite source for NFL news, The Morning After Huddle.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • The NFL Scouting Combine is staying in Naptown for 2023 and 2024. As if there was any other decision, Indianapolis will continue to host the event. Commissioner Goodell said Tuesday that the decision to keep the combine in Indy was a nod to how well the city has handled hosting.
    • What’s done in the dark in St. Louis will come to light in Los Angeles. The L.A. Times reports that the league has quietly tapped all 32 teams to help pay a $790 million lawsuit, that was settled last year, regarding the city of St Louis crying foul over the Rams move. The NFL has already taken $7.5 million from each team.
    • Your Key Signings Roundup is back: Kyle Fuller has landed in his home town of Baltimore on a 1-year $9.5 million deal. To the shock of no one, the 49ers have confirmed Jimmy Garoppolo will likely be traded, but his shoulder surgery complicates things. There’s also this tiny thing, called a $25 million+ cap hit, that presents a snag.

That’s it for today’s Huddle. Come back tomorrow to break down the top news you should know!

    • Michael Vick is living his football dreams once again as he’s announced that he signed a deal with Fan Controlled Football. Inspired by the success of his good friend Terrell Owens, Vick will play during the final week of the season.

There is belief that Quinn’s trade price could be more than two draft picks. Late Friday, Mike Garafolo broke news that the Colts are looking at a former Frank Reich coached QB (not that one) to sit behind Matt Ryan. Talks with Nick Foles are in progress and a deal could be in place soon.

The Morning After Huddle: May 11, 2022 Edition

Welcome to another edition of The Morning After Huddle where we we bring you the top news from around the NFL. They say that legends never die and apparently, neither does the career of one Thomas Edward Patrick Brady,Jr.

Here’s what you need to know:

    • Tom Brady simply can’t ride off into sunset, much to the dismay of several fanbases. He will be diagnosing defenses and coverages for the foreseeable future. Word broke today that Fox Sports has given the Bucs QB a whopping 10-year $375 million contract immediately following his playing career. (So, in another 20 years) If his rings weren’t going to keep him warm in retirement, the money surely will!
    • Speaking of money, Giants rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux is paying $50K for Graham Gano’s number 5 jersey. Normally, rookies are advised not to spend their money before ever playing a down of football, but, in this case, the money is going towards a great cause: Puppies Behind Bars. The charity provides service dogs for wounded war veterans and first responders, in addition to explosive-detection canines for law enforcement.
    • Finally, the Jags are still dealing with the aftermath of Urban Meyer. Today, former Jags Kicker Josh Lambo has sued the organization to recoup his $3.5 million base salary in 2021 and emotional distress. Lambo says he was physically and verbally abused by Meyer and claims that the team violated the Florida Private Sector Whistleblower’s Act.

That’s it for today’s edition. Catch us Thursday for more news you want to know!

  • The Morning After Huddle: May 10, 2022 Edition

The Morning After Huddle: May 10, 2022 Edition

This morning after huddle is brought to you by yours truly, as I pinch hit for the real Megatron, Meg Hall. The news is really schedule-focused, as we are barreling towards the complete NFL schedule release on Saturday. Let’s dive right in, unlike Cam Newton on the fumble in the Super Bowl versus Denver.

    • The NFL announced that the Super Bowl champion Rams and Russell Wilson’s Denver Broncos will headline the Christmas Day slate. A matchup this late in the season should have playoff implications for both teams, and you get a marquee QB matchup with star power on both sides.
    • Speaking of the Rams, they lost some RB depth yesterday. Ian Rapaport reported that Sony Michel has joined Mike McDaniel’s Miami Dolphins, where he will presumably back up free agent addition Chase Edmonds. Michel is coming off a season where he rushed for 845 yards and 4 TDs filling in for Cam Akers.
    • Speaking of the schedule, the NFL also announced their week 2 Monday Night Football doubleheader: they will open with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills will take on the great mentor that is Ryan Tannehill and the Tennessee Titans, and it will be followed by Kirk Cousins and the Vikings taking on an Eagles team who had one of the better drafts.
    • Now that the NFL Draft is in the clear, teams have started to finalize cuts that were rumored all offseason. One such cut is CB James Bradberry, who was one of Dave Gettleman’s expensive signings as General Manager of the New York Giants. The Giants released him yesterday, saving $10.1M (leaving a dead money hit of $11.7M, yikes!) and thus being able to sign their rookies. The Giants will enter training camp, barring any additional moves, with Adoree Jackson as their best cornerback in a system that relies heavily on corners being left on an island.
    • Lastly, Aidan Hutchinson has agreed to his rookie deal with the Detroit Lions. Due to the rookie scale, we’ve seen less holdouts than in years past, with a majority of them coming from offset language. It’s a great look for the Lions, still building their identity, to get their top pick signed and ready for camp.

That does it for today’s edition. Check back tomorrow for the latest in NFL news.

  • Sam Raimi Reveals ’Darkman’ Sequel In Consideration at Universal

Sam Raimi Reveals ’Darkman’ Sequel In Consideration at Universal

Sam Raimi’s original superhero might be making a comeback. Long before the acclaimed director cast a spell with Doctor Strange or spun a web with Spider-Man, he was lurking in the shadows with Universal’s Darkman. Released in 1990, the movie follows Liam Neeson’s Dr. Peyton Westlake, who becomes the vigilante Darkman after being brutally attacked, disfigured, and left for dead by a mysterious criminal organization. He uses breakthroughs in his work to develop synthetic disguises, which he combines with his newly psychotic nature to exact revenge on those who wronged him. The film was intended to be the start of a franchise, but poor box office reception put a halt to any theatrically released sequels. Now, over 30 years later, audiences may finally get one.

Darkman, which also starred Academy Award winner Frances McDormand, spawned two direct-to-video sequels, made without Raimi behind the camera or the original cast. However, speaking with The Wrap, the former Evil Dead filmmaker revealed Universal has recently expressed interest in reviving the series:

Universal is talking about a Darkman sequel. There’s a producer attached. I haven’t heard the story yet or gone into it, I’ve been so busy with this movie [Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness]. But I think it’s cool.

    Sam Raimi

As for whether or not Neeson would return to the role, after being replaced by Arnold Vosloo in both of the low budget follow-ups, Raimi wasn’t sure:

I don’t know if he’d do it, but he’d be incredible.

    Sam Raimi

The possibility of a proper Darkman 2 is likely due to Raimi’s recent comeback in popularity. His latest superhero venture, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, just released to rave reviews, and the director’s dedicated cult of fans is hungry for more. It will probably be a long time before any more information on this topic is made public, but the fact it’s even being talked about is something pretty special, and a good sign for the future of Raimi on the big screen.

  • Sam Raimi Reveals How ‘Evil Dead’ Influenced ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’

Sam Raimi Reveals How ‘Evil Dead’ Influenced ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’

Since it’s very announcement, Marvel Studios has been describing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as their first true foray into the horror genre. As such, it made a lot of sense when the company hired Sam Raimi to replace Scott Derrickson as the film’s director. The iconic filmmaker has experience with both comic book projects and horror movies, and has even mixed the two before in 1990’s Darkman. However, it was apparently his work on the famed Evil Dead franchise that helped him the most throughout filming of Doctor Strange. In a recent interview with Fandom, Raimi explained:

It was really nice to have the experience of having made those horror films because I could take my knowledge of building suspense and delivering scares, and when it got spooky in Multiverse of Madness, I could apply those techniques.

    Sam Raimi

The latest MCU film is said to be filled with plenty of ghastly moments and jump scares. Raimi is known for his fast-paced camera work and up-close visuals, which the film’s star Rachel McAdams confirmed in her own quote:

He’s really great at describing what is happening in his mind’s eye, thank goodness, because, you can see it all sort of swirling in there. And you’re like [whispering] ‘What are we doing? What’s happening?’ And then he’s very good about taking you through the whole day and what this will look like and what’s coming towards you and the build up of a scene and how scary it’s going to be. You sort of start to understand, like, ‘Oh, this is my part in this. And this is how I can help him make it as scary as possible.’ That was kind of fun. And doing super, super tight shots – like, way up in your face! But once you know why, that’s kind of exciting.

    Rachel McAdams

Fans will see just how terrifying Doctor Strange can be when Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6th.

  • RUMOR: ‘She-Hulk’ Streaming Debut Facing Indefinite Delay

RUMOR: ‘She-Hulk’ Streaming Debut Facing Indefinite Delay

Just as word comes that star Tatiana Maslany has put together a “jaw-dropping” performance as Jennifer Walters in the upcoming Disney Plus streaming series She-Hulk, a new rumor has surfaced that indicates it might be a while before fans get to judge for themselves.

While the streaming series has never really had an official date outside of “sometime in 2022”, a previously reliable source of information has surfaced again, this time suggesting that it’ll be late 2022 or even early 2023 before She-Hulk hits the streaming service. While the post doesn’t give details as to why it’ll be another half year or so before we see it, it can be inferred from other information in the post that the delay could be due to VFX work taking a little longer than expected.

Whenever She-Hulk does stream, it’s expected to be a 9-episode series of 30-minute episodes and to be heavily comedic in nature. Maslany will be joined by MCU vets Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth and newcomers Ginger Gonzaga, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Jameela Jamil, who will portray Titania. Marvel Studios has not commented on any official release ate for the series.
