  • ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ Not Moving Forward at Hulu

‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ Not Moving Forward at Hulu

On Monday, TV Line announced that Hulu is no longer moving forward with the previously announced adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses. The hugely popular book series, written by author Sarah J. Maas, is a BookTok darling and seemed like a huge catch for the streamer. It’s currently unclear why the series is currently not moving forward, however, TV Line also confirmed 20th Television/Disney currently have no plans to shop the project to other outlets. The decision not to shop the project around could suggest it’ll be reworked/redeveloped at a later time, although that has not been confirmed.

The news of the show’s status comes shortly after the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. During his presentation for Disney, Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, was asked to comment on the status of A Court of Thorns and Roses. However, at the time, Erwich simply noted that there wasn’t much he could share. “That show has been in development, but I don’t have any news to share today.”

The show was being developed by Ronald D. Moore and Maas. It’s of note, as of November, Moore had told TV Line that the project was still in development, explaining they had written some scripts. At the time, Moore told the outlet they were waiting before things really moved forward. “I think the whole town is kind of waiting to see if we have actors before things really move forward, but it’s still in development.”

  • ‘Wynonna Earp’ Sets Out for Vengeance at Tubi

‘Wynonna Earp’ Sets Out for Vengeance at Tubi

Wynonna Earp is back and seeking vengeance. It was announced on Thursday that Wynonna Earp is set to return for a special thanks to Tubi. The special, which is titled Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, will be 90-minutes long and hails from the show’s creator, Emily Andras. Melanie Scrofano will return as the titular character alongside Tim Rozon (Doc Holliday), Dom Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp) and Katherine Barrell (Nicole Haught). The 90-minute special is set to be directed by Paolo Barzman.

Per Vanity Fair, the special will take place shortly after the series finale, allowing fans to see where their favorite characters are at now. “Doc and Wynonna have been on an adventure, and Waverly and Nicole have been at home in [the Earp hometown of] Purgatory, doing their thing. I think it’s going to be really interesting to see, hopefully, what gets everybody home—maybe facing a challenge they’ve never faced before, something pretty intense,” Andras teased. “It’s all your favorite—hopefully—character moments, but also a little bit about growing up and sort of, like, being who you are now and earning all your choices.”

While the special is a continuation of the SyFy series, Andras feels it’s newbie friendly. In fact, she hopes it’ll serve as a “gateway drug,” allowing audiences to discover the cult-favorite series which is streaming on Netflix in the US. Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, is one of the few original scripted projects to land at Tubi. It joins The Nevers, the Joss Whedon series that aired the first half of its lone season on HBO.

Based on comic book characters crated by Beau Smith, Wynonna Earp first debuted on SyFy in 2016 and ran for four seasons before being canceled in 2021. A fifth season of the series had originally been ordered but never came to fruition. It is worth noting the fourth season had issues behind-the-scenes, with struggles to secure funding from producers IDW Entertainment. Syfy ended up putting up funds to ensure the fourth season was completed, but the network was unable to help produce a fifth season.

As of now, the special doesn’t yet have an air date.

    1. Old Foes Share a Meal on the Set of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Old Foes Share a Meal on the Set of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

While Marvel Studios has retconned the events of Marvel Television’s Daredevil into the MCU, the Season 3 finale does create some problems that will need to be resolved in Daredevil: Born Again. After dishing out a hellish beating to Wilson Fisk, Matt Murdock revealed himself as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen and the saw the big man headed off to prison. So how does someone like Fisk end up running forayor of NYC? Presumably those issues will be addressed in the new Disney Plus series and maybe Matt and Fisk will…chat about it over coffee?

A new photo from the New York City set of Daredevil: Born Again might just show that conversation as stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio were caught sharing a table at a diner.

X user OT_Tristan caught the stars, and at least one body double, in the Square Diner and it appears the two are at least amicable. Given it’s the middle of the day, Murdock isn’t wearing any of his many possible DD outfits but rather looks like he’s fresh out of the courtroom. We’ll have to wait until 2025 to find out what the two longtime enemies are talking about but hopefully it’s related to their last onscreen chat in Season 3 of Daredevil.

    2. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ to Restart Production with Original Stunt Coordinator Returning

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ to Restart Production with Original Stunt Coordinator Returning

Here’s a big move for the reboot of the Netflix Daredevil series. It seems that Marvel Studios is trying to push forward after the strong push that was their Echo binge release just a few weeks ago. We’ve known for some time that they are reworking their TV slate moving forward after learning quite a bit in their experimental phase, but as they restart production they are making one significant move.

They have seemingly hired a familiar face for the production, as Philip Silvera is returning as stunt and fight coordinator. The stunt coordinator made quite a vocal statement when he wasn’t asked back not too long ago after defining many of the iconic fight sequences from the original Netflix series.

He’ll also act as the project’s second unit director, further highlighting that they have embraced the Netflix originals now that they are official canon according to Disney+. Production is seemingly going to resume next Monday and they might be adjusting the episode count. They are moving away from the 18-episode model initially announced closer to what the Netflix shows did. If that means 10 or 13 episodes remains an open question.

The release of Echo seems to have sparked quite a bit of interest in the classic series, as it had a halo effect that saw a massive increase for the classic Daredevil and Punisher series. Not just that, even Hawkeye got a major bump in viewership, which may be a telltale sign for Marvel Studios moving forward with their strategy. We might be seeing some old trends return as we did during Phase 2 and 3 of the franchise.
