‘Yellowstone’ to End, Sequel Series Planned with Matthew McConaughey

Here’s a big surprise, but it seems Yellowstone is coming to an end. The series is currently the top-rated drama and seemingly one of those shows that could continue for quite some time but co-creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan has decided to end the current version of the show. Yet, it’s not the end of the Dutton saga as Matthew McConaughey is set to spearhead a sequel series.

It seems that the reasoning behind this movie actually is due to its main star Kevin Costner. He has limited the number of days he shoots for the production to 65 days but seemingly pushed for even less in its current season. Yet even after winning best television actor in a drama series at the Golden Globes, he continued to want to spend less time in Yellowstone with only a week of shooting.

The reason seems to be his involvement with the western epic Horizon, which he not only stars in but also is directing and co-wrote. Though, Costner plays the Dutton patriarch and is a major player in the series. Paramount has not offered any confirmation but praised McConaughey. It seems that nothing is quite set in stone as he is currently in negotiations. Sheridan‘s 1883 was also quite the success, so other Yellowstone spinoffs have all eyes on them as one of Paramount’s biggest TV franchises ever; even if it moves on from its main star.

  • ‘Yellowstone’ Prequel ‘1932’ Adds Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford

‘Yellowstone’ Prequel ‘1932’ Adds Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford

Talk about adding some star power, as Taylor Sheridan‘s Yellowstone prequel series titled 1932 has added Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. They are going to star in the Paramount+ exclusive streaming service that is currently eyeing a December release. It was picked up back in February, which will explore a new generation of the Dutton family during the early 20th century.

The storyline will take place at the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression affects the mountain west, where the Duttons have made their home. Sadly, they won’t reveal what characters Mirren or Ford are playing as of now. It’s definitely a power move, especially after the success of Sheridan‘s Yellowstone series.

It also continues to signal Paramount+’s move to further establish the new streaming service with some powerhouse names. There have been various other spinoffs and prequels in development based on Yellowstone, such as 1883 and a spinoff 6666, which is still in early development. So, he’s been slowly building up a cinematic universe on the streaming service.

With the exception of Yellowstone, all of these projects will be part of Paramount+ with 1932 being produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Sheridan‘s Bosque Ranch Productions. he is joined by executive producers John Linson, David C. Glasser, Art Linson, Bob Yari, Ben Richardson, and David C. Glasser.

  • Paramount’s ‘Yellowstone’ Footprint Expands with New Prequel, ‘1932’, More Episodes of ‘1883’

Paramount’s ‘Yellowstone’ Footprint Expands with New Prequel, ‘1932’, More Episodes of ‘1883’

The story of the Dutton family will continue to be cornerstone content for Paramount +. With a fifth season of Yellowstone recently greenlit and 6666 spinoff in development, the studio revealed today that more content is on the way.

According to an official release, 2022 will see the debut of “the next chapter” of the Yellowstone prequel 1883 and the development of an all-new prequel, 1932. Whether the next chapter of 1883 refers to a second season or simply more episodes of the current season, which was expected to be a 10-episode run concluding on February 27th, was not made clear in the announcement. The series, which stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Isabel May as the ancestors of Kevin Costner’s Yellowstone character, John Dutton, tells the story of how the Dutton family came to be in possession of the land which came to be the Yellowstone Ranch.

The new prequel, 1932, will tell the tale of, presumably, the next generation of Duttons post-1883 as they deal with Westward expansion, the Great Depression and the Prohibition era.

The new prequel order comes as fans seemingly can’t get enough of the Duttons and their story. The fourth season of Yellowstone recently finished its run and drew incredible numbers. The increased viewership led directly to the success of 1883’s first season and now it seems the Yellowstone-verse is upon us.

  • ‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Gets the Green Light

‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Gets the Green Light

Given its growing ratings and cultural relevance, a renewal of the Paramount streaming series Yellowstone for a fifth season seemed more like a “when” than an “if.” Just a couple of weeks ago, executive producer David Glasser confirmed that the studio was already hard at work on the fifth season with hopes to start filming this summer and now, Paramount has made it official: the Duttons are coming back for another go around.

The fourth season of the series, which concluded its run just over a month ago, saw a significant increase in viewers and social media buzz. While the fourth season ended on less of a bang than its predecessor, it did move along long-gestating feud between Beth and estranged adopted son Jamie. In the official announcement from parent company ViacomCBS Media Network, Glasser had the following to say:

We are honored to be able to bring audiences another season of Yellowstone. The continued growth in viewership and the recent recognition from the guilds bolsters our commitment to continue to bring groundbreaking entertainment to audiences.

Production on Season 5 is tentatively scheduled to begin this May with a late-2022 premiere date in mind.
