‘THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER’ Headed to Prague in October

Many of us Sam and Bucky fans have been eagerly awaiting for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier to finish the series after being shut down back in mid-March. Mounting evidence makes me very confident the show will resume filming next week in Georgia (September 8th), as first suggested by our own Charles Murphy several weeks ago.

A lot of fans have also been wondering if the show will return to film in the beautiful city of Prague in the Czech Republic. When productions shut down there, they had close to two weeks left of planned filming. As I reported recently, Carnival Row recently finishing its second season there was a good sign for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as well, and it appears I was right.

Several sources and evidence gathered have confirmed to us that production on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is still planned to return to the Czech Republic beginning in October and extending into November.

Fingers crossed we still get the much anticipated Marvel series this year!

‘FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER’ T-shirts spotted at Wal-Mart!

Some of the first signs that a show or film is coming soon is merchandise popping up at various big retail stores. If these two t-shirts recently spotted at a Wal-Mart (see the tags) are any indication, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series is still planned to release this year! There’s not much point in releasing merchandise for a show not arriving until next year, after all!

New ‘JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION’ Set Photos Reveal New Dino Species

Jurassic World: Dominion recently took their filming to Malta and eagle eyed fans are now being treated to a peek at some stand ins for seemingly new and very dangerous looking dinosaurs!

Not the usual thing we see stalking down a city street, but then the ending of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom made it clear, Pandora’s box has been opened, and things would never be the same.

The original poster on Instagram added a spoiler below about what was going on and who was involved!

It was recently reported by Deadline that the stars of the film would not go there due to COVID-19 concerns and cases rising on the island. With that in mind, it was more than likely Chris Pratt’s stunt man not the actor, but still it must have been very exciting to watch them film!

Twitter user Brycenator100 spotted another image from Malta showing there were at least two of these dinos in the film.

As I was looking around for more information, I’m seeing lots of speculation about what species this is exactly, since it doesn’t seem to be the same as the raptors in the other films. What do you think?

Edit to add: Brycentaor100 has been doing some great work on their Jurassic World Twitter account, coming up with a set video of what appears to be Chris Pratt’s stunt double on a moped being chased and having a close call with some cars.

And here are some more set images of some fake rock face and major destruction on a Navy helicopter, no doubt caused by one of the dinosaurs set loose on the Earth at the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

It may be from filming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier back in 2019, but the image shared via Sebastian Stan’s Instagram below still gets me excited. Here’s hoping Sebastian’s added activities on Instagram lately means we’ll get a heads up from the Bucky Barnes actor when they do resume behind the cameras.

How do I know it’s a picture from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, you may ask? Note the dog tag, which Sebastian also showed off in an Instagram stories in November, shortly after they began filming.

  • The Theory of Widows #2: A Death in the Family

The Theory of Widows #2: A Death in the Family

I want to start this article by saying that the theory I’m about to discuss has not left my mind for the past few months and it all started when I noticed something in one of the trailers for Marvel Studios’ Black Widow. The following theory I’m about to discuss not only discusses what I consider to be one of the most important scenes from the film, but also the film’s most important plot twist. So, take the following letters in bold as your general warning.

**This article delves deep into a possible major spoiler for the upcoming MCU film, Black Widow. Consider yourselves warned.

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    Still here? Alright then!

If you’ve read the title, then I’m sure you’d understand what I’m about to discuss, but if you require a blunter description:

SOMEONE’S GONNA DIE IN THIS MOVIE.

And when I mean someone, I don’t mean an extra or a one-off character. I mean someone who is part of this central cast. Now the question is: who?

    bw-online-char-combo-v5-lg-1580689197854

We already know Natasha’s fate following the events of this film, where she heads off to join Captain America, The Falcon and Scarlet Witch and eventually the rest of the Avengers in both Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019). At the very least we know she’s safe for now.

What of Yelena Belova, Melina Vostokoff and Alexei Shostakov? Could one (if not all) meet their fates during this film? Well, as Charles would usually say, “it’s a 50/50 chance. Either they’ll die, or they’ll live.”

I believe I have enough evidence to make the case for at least one of these character’s ultimate demise. And that character is none other than…

    YELENA BELOVA

    6c8b-ivwfwmq0925763

Now let’s discuss the scenes that lead me to believe this.

Evidence #1: The “potential death scene”

    giphy

Now, this gif that you see right here is from the final trailer for Black Widow. In this shot, you see Yelena and Natasha embracing together in what appears to be a forehead bump. Here’s what’s really interesting about this shot in particular: Natasha is very clearly devasted and heartbroken in this shot. Why? One can assume that something tragic has just occurred prior to this sequence, but it’s not so much what possibly happened that gives credence to this theory as much as who Natasha is reacting to this event with and how Natasha herself is behaving in this gif. Notice that she’s bringing in Yelena for this hug. Why her instead of Melina or Alexei? If they are embracing, why isn’t Yelena reciprocating the movement back at Natasha?

Notice how Natasha blinks several times while crying, yet Yelena has a motionless (almost dead) look on her face where she doesn’t appear to even blink? Now, as an Anatomy and Physiology TA, I can tell you that when you look in different directions, your eyes will always blink no matter the direction you’ll look to. (You just tried it out for yourself, didn’t you? Good!)

Anyway, do you notice that when Yelena is being brought into the embrace her eyes don’t blink or move even once? She is completely focused on just one spot and her eyes do not move the entire time. Look closer: it isn’t just her eyes, but her body doesn’t move either. In fact, in this shot, Natasha is PULLING Yelena into this embrace.

So, just with this shot alone, analyzing the body movements, plus Natasha’s reaction and movements, plus Yelena’s stillness, leaves me to believe that Natasha is indeed mourning her sister in this shot.

Now, if you’re skeptical and don’t believe me fully, then let’s continue with some more clips I’ve got.

    Evidence #2: Widow’s Jacket

Now, remember that look Black Widow debuted in Avengers: Infinity War with the green vest? Well, that vest is actually worn by Yelena in this movie, as shown in the first image. When Natasha gets up from the floor in the second shot, she’s holding on to that same vest. My assumption is that Natasha took Yelena’s vest as a memento to remember her by and that her look in Infinity War is a nod to Yelena Belova.

Now I know what you are about to say; But Edward, what about that shot where they’re both standing together side by side!?

Yeah, I took those into account, and they stand out even more when you pay attention to the whole sequence where Alexei says “We fight with you.”

Screen Shot 2020-08-26 at 9.18.33 PM

Rule #1 when dealing with Marvel Studios films:

NEVER TRUST MARVEL STUDIOS. ESPECIALLY THE TRAILERS.

Look at what Marvel has done for trailers in the past, with the Hulk in Wakanda with the Avengers during Avengers: Infinity War or Nebula fighting in the ruins of the Avengers Facility when it was actually 2014 Nebula during Avengers: Endgame. Anyone remember this?

Here we have a classic example of how Marvel Studios alters scenes in trailers to hide the final product, which may contain an important plot point or twist in the final product.

I think this entire interaction is a fake scene with Red Guardian, Melina and Yelena. Mainly because the VFX and coloring of the scene with Alexei and Melina looks incomplete compared to this shot. This is in the same place and neither Alexei nor Melina nor Yelena are with her in the shot, yet it feels more complete because of the camera angle shot, the lighting and the coloring of the scene.

    null

If I am right, don’t fret! Here’s the bright side, YelenaStans: Always remember Rule #2 with Marvel Studios films:

    NO ONE EVER STAYS DEAD.

Screen Shot 2020-08-26 at 10.36.30 PM

This shot (also from the final trailer for Black Widow), shows Yelena strapped to a bed. Notice she’s wearing her white combat gear that she would wear underneath the vest Natasha currently has in her possession. This scene would have to happen immediately after the events of what I consider to be the ending. Here’s what’s interesting: see the machine next to her with the logo? Can’t read it? Let me flip it around, increase the brightness and sharpen it for you.

Screen Shot 2020-08-26 at 10.36.30 PM

Right here, we can clearly see the corporation known as A.I.M. making their presence known once again in the MCU since their debut in Iron Man 3 (2013).

My prediction is that we are most likely seeing a “Winter Soldier” scenario where Yelena will be “enhanced” as shown by the line around Yelena’s head. This leaves me to believe that Marvel will try to incorporate the storyline from the comics where Yelena accepts to be a part of A.I.M. in exchange for becoming an “adaptoid”, and THIS is how the Black Widow mantle “lives on”.

Why make her an adaptoid, you ask? Who would do such a thing? Could Marvel be setting up Yelena as the new Black Widow for something bigger in the future? A new team perhaps?

    THAT’S for another theory.

  • ‘THE BATMAN’ Still Filming in Chicago

‘THE BATMAN’ Still Filming in Chicago

According to a new report from Screen Magazine, Matt ReevesThe Batman is still expected to film in Chicago this Fall, planning for a late October shoot.

Screen Magazine reports, filming in “The Windy City” is expected to take one to two weeks, with at least one month of pre-production. They are expected to do mainly shots of exterior downtown and that would possibly include Chicago landmarks, (suggested were the Thompson center and Board of Trade). It is currently unclear if stars Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, or Colin Farrell would be there for filming.

Twitter account @filming_chicago retweeted the article from Screen commenting that they hadn’t heard anything at this time, but felt confident in Screen’s information.

Meanwhile in Chicago, FX series Fargo has resumed production on it’s fourth season, with other Chicago based NBC shows (Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med)expected to start up again in September. CW series The Batwoman had also done some filming in Chicago, and is expected to return at some point. Here’s hoping all go on without a hitch.

  • ‘CARNIVAL ROW’ Wraps; ‘THE FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER’ May Be Next

‘CARNIVAL ROW’ Wraps; ‘THE FALCON AND WINTER SOLDIER’ May Be Next

Deadline has reported that Amazon Prime series Carnival Row (starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne) has finally finished filming it’s second season in the Czech Republic. The shoot began last November and was paused in March due to a COVID-19 shutdowns in the country (and pretty much everywhere).

Variety and Deadline both reported that Carnival Row only had 2 weeks of shooting left in the second season when they stopped in March, and it appears they resumed filming in late July/early August per a post from a Prague based extras agency. We have heard that the extra protocols due to COVID-19 would make the shoots a bit longer, approximately half a week added for every week expected, so this sounds about right to me.

This is excellent news for Carnival Row fans certainly, and potentially good news for Marvel fans as well that the series seems to have completed relatively quickly and without having to shut down again due to the virus. Many of you will recall the shut down occurred while Falcon and The Winter Soldier was trying to film some key scenes in the Czech Republic when it had to shut down production and leave the country. While we’ve heard rumors about different plans being made to try to get at least part of the production back to Prague to finish up, we have also heard that it is not absolutely necessary for them to return due to it being possible to film certain scenes elsewhere. Only time will tell in this very uncertain time. It would be a pity to miss out on those beautiful Prague sets they had planned tho!

  • Theory of Widows: Where in the World is Black Widow?

One certainly has to give Marvel Studios credit. They know how to be secretive, especially when it comes to one of the most obscure characters in their line-up, Black Widow. With only 2 trailers, 1 special look, 1 Big Game Spot and multiple posters available to the general public, the mystery surrounding the upcoming MCU film is something that draws a parallel to how much we actually know about Black Widow.

Natasha Romanoff has been around the Marvel Cinematic Universe for nearly over 10 years since her debut in Iron Man 2 (2010), and yet, her personal history is one shrouded in absolute mystery. We know only glimpses on Natasha’s past in the MCU from small teases here and there in almost every film she has been in.

Now, I have multiple theories in regards to this film and a lot of things I’d like to discuss, but I will be breaking them down into different articles because they cover many different ideas, so we’ll start with this piece titled:

    black_widow__2020__wallpaper__3_by_mintmovi3_ddoannh (1) copy

Now, a few days ago, I went browsing online on Hot Topic and found that they were already selling merch for Black Widow. Pretty awesome right? But there was a particular item of clothing that caught my attention.

black_widow__2020__wallpaper__3_by_mintmovi3_ddoannh (1) copyHER UNIVERSE MARVEL BLACK WIDOW TOUR T-SHIRT.

Quite an interesting shirt no? Here’s the description for the item: “Where in the world is Natasha Romanoff? Keep track of the different sites Black Widow has been to with this oversized tour-inspired tee. The front has “Black Widow” with her hourglass logo and the back lists “New York, Ohio, Norway, Morocco, Budapest, Siberia.”

This shirt provides us with very fascinating details about (quite literally) which direction this film is going to take. So let’s break them down one by one:

    new york

New York, New York. The City that Never Sleeps. You might recognize it as the home to the primary base of operations for the Avengers & their state of the art facility in Upstate New York.

AvengersEndgame_06New Avengers Facility in Upstate New York.

Reports state that the film is set between the events of Captain America: Civil War” & “Avengers: Infinity War“. Considering that the last scene Black Widow had in Captain America: Civil War was her discussing with Tony Stark about how Natasha flipped sides last minute of the Airport Battle and allowed Steve and Bucky to get away, with Tony warning her that T’Challa told Secretary Ross about what she did and that “they’re coming for her”, one could assume that the film could start here. Natasha getting ready to go on the run, while Secretary Ross prepares to rally the troops to go after her.

    ohio

Ohio. At first glance, it seems like quite the uneventful place for an MCU film. Perfect for any rogue agent trying to lay low.

Screen Shot 2020-08-19 at 8.41.19 AM

This shot of an RV in the middle of nowhere from the final trailer for Black Widow could ironically enough be anywhere. EXCEPT, you can tell a lot about a place by looking at its vegetation, and sometimes that type of vegetation is actually unique to just 1 certain location. So, by looking at these trees alone, I can depict that they are “Oak-Hickory trees”. You can tell from the leaves on the tree in front. They’re in a bud shape, with three leaves sticking out from 1 twig branch. (You guys can actually check it out for yourselves here on page 42. My Botany/Ecology professors would be proud.)

ANYWAYS, these types of trees are specific only to North America, with a vast majority of it being available to the Northeast region, and luckily for us, Ohio. So, one could deduce that the next portion of the movie occurs here. Natasha could come here to this RV and have it be her “hiding hole” as shown in these shots, where you can see she is wearing the same long shirt and is in an RV-esque enviroment looking over all of her different identities, possibly preparing to depart the US.

Screen Shot 2020-08-19 at 8.41.30 AMScreen Shot 2020-08-19 at 8.40.53 AM

So, I predict that this might be the first place she goes to which sets the events of this film in motion.

Something that supports this idea is that in “Marvel’s Black Widow Prelude #2”, after having a recount of the events of Black Widow has been in during her time in the MCU, and fiery debate with Councilwoman Hawley, Secretary Ross is informed about a solid lead in regards to the whereabouts of Black Widow and they needed to mobilize immediately.

    IMG_6052

This could lead to this scene from the trailer.

Screen Shot 2020-08-18 at 9.52.46 AMSecretary Thunderbolt Ross.

We can depict that this is in the United States because of:

    1) The yellow traffic sign at the far right that spells “Speed Bump Ahead”. (Apart from the sign being in English, remember that countries have their own traffic signs and the yellow diamond is particularly unique to the U.S.)

    2) The amount of SWAT and Local Law Enforcement mobilized in the area.

    3) Just the suburban look of this shot overall.

    BONUS FACT:

Another interesting detail about Ohio is that this seems to be the place for former Russian spies to lay low.

Vasily_Karpov_5Vasily Karpov, hiding out in Cleveland in Captain America: Civil War.

Meet Vasily Karpov. Former KGB Agent. Former HYDRA Agent. You might recognize him as the commander in charge of the Winter Soldier Program during 1991 in Siberia and he was the original owner of the Winter Soldier Book in Captain America: Civil War. While his role in that film was cut short by his death at the hands of Baron Zemo, it’s an interesting detail to point out, considering Black Widow occurs right after Captain America: Civil War. So, it’s likely that there are still secrets that this commander had in that house in Cleveland that Black Widow might want to investigate in regards to the past.

    NORWAY

Now, here’s where we have gaps in our knowledge, and we must put into place our use of speculation. When we think about Norway, we usually think about Thor and the Asgardian heritage this place has. But very few would think about Norway as a place to discuss the past about Black Widow.

Now, here’s an interesting detail from the “Marvel’s Black Widow Prelude #1” which caught my attention.

    IMG_6051

Secretary Ross states that Natasha was born in Russia. But Councilwoman Hawley brought up a fantastic point regarding Natasha’s accent. And whilst Ross tries to debunk the case by saying “she’s a spy”, it’s important to note that in the very next panel, he says that very little is actually known about her early life.

I think that Natasha may have been born in Russia, but certainly not raised entirely there. And before you completely disregard this idea, hear me out. Unlike Yelena and Melina, Natasha’s accent is “neutral”, whilst Yelena and Melina both have Russian-esque accents. Yelena and Melina, also being Widows themselves, should be able to disguise their accents just as easily as Natasha as Ross states, so why don’t they? One can assume it’s been years since both of them have been away from Russia and have had to disguise their appearance and voice if they’re on the run, so why haven’t they? Even during Natasha’s younger days, when she was seen training in the Red Room as shown in her vision during Age of Ultron, her accent remains neutral the entire time. And if that isn’t convincing enough, just look back to her first scene in the 2012 film, “The Avengers.” when she’s being interrogated by a Russian General. She sounds neutral, even when speaking Russian. Now, I could be making a stretch here and I might be looking too deep into it, as the General in that same scene said her accent has hints of Stalingrad in them. But I also have another piece of evidence.

Multiple local reports from Norway indicated that the filming location is actually her childhood home (with some speculating that Norway is indeed doubling for Russia) perhaps shown here in these scenes.

Screen Shot 2020-08-18 at 10.24.51 AM

Screen Shot 2020-08-18 at 10.23.23 AM

What eludes me is that, if her childhood home is in Russia (with Norway posing as it’s double as some sources speculate), then why have Marvel include Norway in the place of lists where Black Widow visits during this film? It’s certainly a lot to think about, but it is an interesting thought nonetheless.

    MOROCCO

Now, we’ve seen Morocco already in the “Black Widow | Special Look”, particularly in these shots.

Screen Shot 2020-08-18 at 10.38.04 AMScreen Shot 2020-08-18 at 10.38.23 AM

Why Black Widow would travel to Morocco eludes me. Possibly to search for Melina Vostokoff or find an informant that could lead them somewhere else. We’ll see if anything new pops up.

    BUDAPEST

Budapest. Perhaps the most teased location in regards to Black Widow’s history.

Screen Shot 2020-08-18 at 10.58.00 AM

By piecing together the trailers and the spots, we know Black Widow first arrives to the country via train.

Screen Shot 2020-08-18 at 10.58.19 AMKeleti Train Station in Budapest as shown in the Black Widow Teaser Trailer.

After arriving on Budapest, she tracks down and locates her sister: “Yelena Belanova”, where they will now be both on the run from both Secretary Ross and the “mind-controlled” Black Widows.

Screen Shot 2020-08-18 at 11.42.03 AM

I feel like a good chunk of the film will take place here. We’ll probably explore a lot of Black Widow’s past, mainly how she and Yelena are related, and what exactly happened all those years ago in Budapest, which will lead to intense high-action sequences and our first encounter with Taskmaster.

    BlackWidowT1-052-1

It’s also important to note that Ross and his men won’t be too far behind as shown here in this shot from the teaser trailer, where Secretary Ross is standing behind a Hungarian food truck.

Tony Stark I have seen MANY people address Secretary Ross’ look in this film, discussing how he has been de-aged and that this is somehow as far back as before the first Incredible Hulk film back in 2008. I don’t think this is the case for a number of reasons. Mainly, because you have Secretary Ross already wearing a suit and tie (typical of a person of power in the government) rather than what would have been his usual military general camo getup. Not only that, but the cars in which they arrive are Chevrolet Suburban LT SUVs from 2014, so anything pre-Avengers (pre-2012) is automatically discarded. And I’m almost certain that nothing interesting (at least in the MCU) happened in Hungary which would have required the intervention of Secretary Ross. Not only that, but the “Marvel’s Black Widow Prelude Comics #1 & #2” confirm that Secretary Ross will indeed be on the trail of Black Widow throughout the film. So, if you had to ask me, I think it’s more of a different look for Secretary Ross for the Black Widow film rather than just a case of de-aging. But we’ll go more into Ross’ role in this film in another theory.

    SIBERIA

Lastly, we’re headed to good ol’ Russia. Specifically, Siberia.

We’ve already seen Siberia in the trailer during these shots.

Screen Shot 2020-08-19 at 10.51.35 AMScreen Shot 2020-08-19 at 10.59.04 AM

I’m certain that we’re are going to see at least three very important things happen in Siberia.

    THE GULAG

Screen Shot 2020-08-19 at 10.50.56 AMScreen Shot 2020-08-19 at 10.53.42 AM

In the trailers, we’ve seen David Harbour’s character; Alexei Shostakov a.k.a. “Red Guardian”, break out of what seems to be a prison (or Gulag for you Call of Duty fans) of some sort and that Natasha, Yelena, and Melina help break Alexei out of this prison in Siberia.

    FUN FACT / CONNNECTION:

    IMG_6053

In Tales of Suspense #52 “The Crimson Dynamo Strikes Again!”, we’re introduced to a particular Russian individual referred to as “Excellency”, who declares Anton Vanko a traitor for working with Tony Stark and betraying the USSR. You might recognize Anton Vanko from all the way back in 2010, from the film Iron Man 2.

    010IR2_Yevgeni_Lazarev_001

In the film, it is explained that Anton Vanko was a “Soviet physicist who defected to the United States in 1963. However, he was accused of espionage and was deported in 1967” by none other than Howard Stark. When Howard deported him to the USSR, as Nick Fury explained it back then: “when the Russians found out he couldn’t deliver, they shipped his a** off to Siberia and he spent the next 20 years in a vodka-fuelled rage.”

Take note of this. He was imprisoned in Siberia for 20 years. And in the comics, Russia was ruled by this individual known as “His Excellency.” So how does this connect to the MCU? I predict that Anton Vanko was thrown into the same Gulag that Alexei is in for this film. And that “The Excellency” in charge was none other than General Dreykov, which leads me to my next location.

    THE RED ROOM

Screen Shot 2020-08-19 at 11.27.26 AM

We know that the Red Room is probably one of the key points of this film. So we are 100% bound to see the Red Room in action and I cannot wait enough to see how this plays out. Seeing where the Black Widows are made and trained will shed so much of Natasha’s development and training, so we are bound to see the biggest reveals about Black Widow’s past here. I’m also particularly interested in seeing how General Dreykov or Madame B. will play out with all of this, considering that not even Secretary Ross knows everything about them.

    THE HOSPITAL

I’ve seen many people address these shots as Taskmaster’s hideout or an alternate Red Room of the sort. And while all of those certainly have potential, I can wholeheartedly believe that these scenes take place in a hospital or a medical facility of the sort.

The reason why I say this is because if you look at all of these pictures, you notice something. This place has completely has white halls, EKG machines and monitors, signs indicating the rooms people are in, examination rooms, isolation rooms, and has multiple fire extinguishers, red phones, and electrical wiring all over.

This would pay homage to the “Hospital Fire”/”Children’s Ward” reference we’ve heard over the past few MCU films. A mistake so big that haunts Natasha to this very day. BUT, that’s another theory for another article.

WHY ARE ALL OF THESE PLACES RELEVANT?

I have reason to believe that the “main antagonist” is someone who knows Natasha Romanoff very well and wants Natasha to face her past. The inside joke between Hawkeye and Black Widow about Budapest, the “Hospital Fire”, the Children’s Ward. Dreykov’s daughter. After years of teasing, we’ll finally be able to learn all of these secrets and references regarding the mystery of Black Widow’s past.

But as Nick Fury would always say, “Nobody spills the secrets because nobody knows them all”.

  • Rumor: Kaya Scodelario may be in Amazon’s ‘LORD OF THE RINGS’

Rumor: Kaya Scodelario may be in Amazon’s ‘LORD OF THE RINGS’

I know, I know… you’re probably asking what am I doing writing a Lord of The Rings piece when you’re used to seeing me write about MCU stuff? Well, you may have noticed Murphy’s Multiverse has been doing some very important growing by adding more writers and an equally important expanding of interests lately. This is because, as Charles has said, it’s truly meant to be a “multiverse” here. The writers are encouraged to cover what they care about most, not simply as “scoopers” or as reporters, but as fans.

As a pretty much lifelong fan of Lord of the Rings, one of my most anticipated projects coming up, aside from any Marvel films and series, is the television series based on the books that’s being produced by Amazon. So I plan to cover that series from time to time here.

First up, some fan detective work over at @theoneringnet Twitter has uncovered evidence that actress Kaya Scodelario (most noted from The Maze Runner and the Pirates of the Carribean franchise) just might have part in the new Lord of the Rings TV series.

Theonering.net Twitter account speculated Kaya was most likely traveling to New Zealand due to the 27 hour trip from UK where, of course, Lord of the Rings is filming. Other posts on Kaya’s Instagram just a few weeks earlier seemed to point to her planning to leave the UK, moving, and not returning to “Blighty” until next year some time.

Supporting this theory, was a post by Instagram user @kayascodnews who shared a very interesting image that Kaya had posted and then, even more interestingly, deleted, of a going away image made up by some of her friends.

Scodelario certainly has some Elfish qualities about her and bears a striking resemblance to Arwen (played by Liv Tyler in LOTR), leading some to speculate she could be playing Arwen’s mother Celebrían. But this is all of course fan theory, especially without knowing for sure that she’s actually in this new Lord of the Rings series.

And while I agree, I certainly think she could be in the LOTR series, she could instead simply be moving there early to eventually work on the Resident Evil reboot she is believed to have signed up to do (as first reported by Daniel Richtman back in early April via his Patreon, and picked up by other sites). But there has also been no word on where and when Resident Evil will film as of late. At least not that I have found. So a statement from @theoneringnet that that movie will be filming in New Zealand next year appears to be just rumor as well for now. Although again, the films probable star appearing to take a very very long plane trip with her family and move somewhere far far away for an extended period, would certainly seem to indicate she is filming something in New Zealand or Australia. Whether it is Lord of The Rings, which has already been filming without her, or Resident Evil which as of April was meant to begin filming in June, or something else, is unclear. It was reported earlier this year that the film was planned to be in Canada or Serbia when it does start (also previously reported by Daniel and other sites).

But of course, in this crazy time, and a pandemic to deal with, clearly plans can change, and a big budget film once planned to begin in June in Canada or Serbia, could certainly change to a safer seeming New Zealand a bit later in the year.

So while I am very intrigued by the evidence, I’m afraid the jury is still out with me on whether or not Kaya Scodelario is in The Lord of The Rings series. I assume we might get a better idea from her Instagram or the trades any day now tho.

Disney Confirms More Upcoming Blockbuster Films on Premier Access

A few days ago, Disney+ revealed their plans to release the upcoming live-action interpretation of Mulan through their streaming service rather than delay the film’s release date any further. The catch, however, is that in order to watch this film, users of the streaming platform would have to pay a $29.99 fee in order to watch this film, under a new brand Disney+ calls “Premier Access.”

MulanDisney’s “Mulan” will release on September 4th via Disney+’s offering of “Premier Access”

    Disney+ explains:

“Once you have Premier Access to Mulan, you can watch [the film] as many times as you want on any platform where Disney+ is available. Your access to Mulan will continue as long as you are an active Disney+ subscriber.” Following the announcement, Disney CEO Bob Chapek described the move as a “one-off” in a Disney’s Q3 FY20 Earnings Results Webcast, explaining that right now they’re “going to have a chance to learn from this and to see whether that [Premier Access] makes sense.”

Needless to say, the Premier Access offering has sparked some debate amongst some users of the platform, some believing it’s too high a price for a single film, while others (myself included), have been wondering about Premier Access’ potential for other films to be displayed utilizing this PVOD format, some examples being Disney’s Jungle Cruise and Marvel Studios’ Black Widow.

So I got to investigating and started working on a theory piece for the potential this service has and how Mulan’s release can affect the future of PVOD itself. Then, simply because I wanted to make sure I used all my options, I decided to just directly contact Disney+’s Help Center, via their live chat option and see if they could help out. And they certainly did.

ggggMy first Disney+ Live Help Chat Conversation with an agent.

In my first conversation with the Disney+ Agent, I asked about the Premier Access service, its pricing and if it was going to be a yearly subscription added to the one I already had or if it was a one time fee on a “film-by film” basis where one would pay the $29.99 fee for every film released via Premier Access. The agent replied with the following string of messages after he contacted his account specialist and left me on read for nearly 10 minutes. He confirmed that the $29.99 fee is just a one time fee, on top of our monthly/yearly subscription, that gives you access to Mulan and that “FOR NOW WE have Mulan, but when time goes by, the premier access WILL BE MORE UPDATED and more movies to watch.” This confirms that Disney does indeed have plans to premier other films via Premier Access, similar to what they’re doing with Mulan.

Now, rationally, I contacted the “Scooper Supreme known as Charles Murphy and I showed him what I had. We needed more proof. After all, the main purpose of an experiment is to show that if you obtained the same result once, then theoretically, if we do it over and over, we should get a similar result. So we tried 3 MORE TIMES. (I did it twice and Charles did it once.)

gdsMy second Disney+ Live Help Chat Conversation with a second agent.

The second agent was more focused on discussing Mulan but eventually answered my question and offered a similar response with a “guarantee…that Disney+ will offer more amazing movies” in regards to the Premier Access itself.

My third and last attempt was not as fruitful because the agent had kept referring me to this page. (Well someone gets a 1/5 in customer service). But it is important to note out that I managed to verify the page’s identity, and confirmed that it is a “Hero Content Page”, meaning the page linked above isn’t specifically just for Mulan, but that it can be updated with other film properties simply replacing the Mulan information and inserting another film in there.

Charles also attempted to get information on this, to make sure of the veracity of these comments and he was fruitful as well being told that while Mulan was the only film available “for now”, Premier Access could be used similarly in the future.

So, in a string of either complete naiveté on my part and literal sheer dumb luck, we managed to get a confirmation that Disney+ is indeed planning on using this PVOD service to push films out through their streaming platform. Yes, you’ll be paying an additional fee for each film ($29.99 does not get you access to all Premier Access films) but this resolves one of the biggest discussion points surrounding the platform since it was announced.

This gives fans an opportunity to see films that they were planning to see before the COVID-19 pandemic arose back in March, starting with Mulan as their first true test, and with 60.5 million subscribers on the platform already, I predict Premier Access has a very bright future ahead of it. So don’t be surprised if you get one of the following promos on your twitter feed or your email address.
